Visiting the Maple Reserve was on my list of places to go while in Vermont this weekend. Touristy?…read moreYes. Worth it? Heck yes! Stopped in on Saturday midday thinking I was going to get a latte and maple creemee. However when I get there, I saw some guys drinking beers at the bar which piqued my interest so I took another look at the menu. Why not get an Affogatotini? Caffeine and a maple creemee all in one! This was DELISH! The girls that work here are so nice. I visited twice in the same day and both times this place was swamped. They took it in stride and still had a smile on their face while working through the line. The Maple Reserve offers ice cream / creemees, coffee, pastries and serves alcohol. They have a little area where you can also buy pure Vermont maple syrup, jams, sauces, small kitchen accessories, etc.

I saw one woman chilling on her laptop who had bought 3 things for herself: a cup of ice cream, some sort of cocktail, and a boba drink. She looked like she was loving life. Made with espresso from locally roasted coffee beans, the affogato with maple creemee was absolutely divine. They drizzled more maple syrup atop the creemee. It wasn't too sweet and just perfectly creamy, as the name suggests. I was pleased to see that there were many gluten free options, including the waffles, which come on sticks like popsicles. Would make the 3 hour trip just to try those one day. The Maple Reserve is definitely Aya-approved.

So I get the impression from various ads that this shop just opened for the July 4th holiday…read moreweekend. Accordingly, I thought I might offer a few helpful suggestions to help the shop get rolling: 1) You are a coffee shop - so you might want to be open in the morning? Having read your ads all over, in relation to the July 4th festivities in the village, I showed up at 8:30AM, the advertised opening time, with my laptop, to get at your wifi. Nevermind that every east coast person I know has already sucked down 3 cups of somebody's coffee by 8:30 (probably 4 if they are on vacation and visiting you). Even so, 8:30 was also the time posted on your door. Which is still early compared to 9:10 when someone finallly showed up to open shop ... 2) You should probably heat the coffee directly, rather than brewing by ambient convection .... Twice I was inside, one morning, one afternoon. Both times it was hotter than blazes. A nice comfy 75-80 degrees outside. Easily 10-15 degrees hotter inside the shop. Hmmm, wonder why the hot coffee isn't selling?? 3) Since you are charging over $2 per cup for your "premium brew", it should probably taste good? I know you "proudly feature" some fancy local "RadBoy MIcroRoast" or something, but I'm not convinced RadBoy isn't just pilfering his beans from the counter grinder at the local Sheetz .... 4) Here's an idea - maybe you should make your customers feel welcome? You weren't terribly rude or something, just rather disinterested that I might want some coffee. Although - given the lack of people in the shop - I understand that might be a unique situation you haven't had much experience with. There were a few other small issues - like having only 1 pastry and a few day-old sandwiches in the unbelievably small display case. But no matter. I think I know how you can solve all this and get your business moving forward. Skip the coffee. Sell beer instead. 1-3 are suddenly non-issues; and it may even resolve 4. Let me know how it goes ...

Just had to check out this place after reading the first review. Drip coffee was great. Went back…read moreto try there Pure Vermont latte and no complaints there either. Found the person behind the counter real coffee oriented, turns out him and his wife own the shop. Opened shop in 2006 after coming back from deployment in Iraq. Yes it was a little warm but for the 2 months in the summer why waste energy with AC. Far as price I have been places where you pay more than $2.00 for a cup of mud that is way worse. If you walk into a coffee shop it is obvious want you want. caffeine.
