To all of the reviews stating that there is bad customer service, maybe take a look at your own behaviour before slandering the staff at this bakery. I've had tremendous experiences with multiple employees. Just because the staff is all fairly young doesn't mean you don't initiate the respect. I'm horrified at the interaction between the person in front of me and the cashier. He was yelling at the cashier for some small inconvenience and you would've thought their ages were swapped. Regardless of what I witnessed, I was met with kind eyes, some small chit chat and the sandwich/soup combo that I ordered. The carrot ginger soup is SO GOOD. The prices at this bakery are amazing. Quality and fresh goods at a fair price is just unbeatable when you compare them to the surrounding cafes/bakeries. The location is perfect and the interior is large and spaced out so it's perfect for taking precautions for covid. They do it right at uprising breads. read more

Best "Mince Pies" in Vancouver. Hands down. Haven't found a lot places like this, highly recommend.

There is so much about this place that I love including their wonderful salads, samosas, breads and neighbourhood vibe. Weirdly though, I find that some of their cookies fall short of my expectations and their pie crust is just awful - doughy not flakey. For a bakery, I'd have thought pie crust would be easily nailed. Still, big props to them for being a great little neighbourhood lunch place. Keep up the great work but consider reworking your pie crust recipe. read more

My favourite local bakery! Their cheese croissants are to die for, and pretty reasonably priced for being under $2.50. Great place to come grab a coffee and a breakfast treat. Tons of options and friendly customer service. Lots of places to sit outside and enjoy the sun while you sip on your coffee. read more

I love their blueberry cinnamon roll. They are generous with the icing. My friend loves the rhubarb square, again, the size is big. The walnut danish is a must try, too. I always bought them home and reheat the pastries in an oven, an excellent treats for afternoon tea time. read more

I walked by here on the way to grab sushi. I saw the word "bread" and just had to walk in. The word "bread" is a dangerous word for someone who is gluten free, however, my culinary curiosity got the best of me. I wasn't expecting any gluten free options, however, what I did see was a nice, clean, presentable and approachable bakery. It's more of a coffee shop than a bakery as the selection was decent. In comparison to space ratio vs. available baked goods, there wasn't much to take home for me. If you don't care about being gluten free, there are a lot of quality products at reasonable prices including rum bread for mom. My mom could use some rum bread....perhaps she'd relax more if she had a loaf or two. Happy Mother's Day. read more

I love Uprising and have been buying my bread here for longer than I care to remember, and missed it terribly when I lived away in the U.S., where so much added sweetener turns their whole grain breads into veritable dessert confections. In those years Uprising transitioned from a co-op to a quiet entrepreneurial endeavour, and I really noticed the difference in product freshness. For a while you had to actually look at the expiry dates to make sure you were getting that day's bread, which in a bakery, is unforgivable. While this appears to have stopped, there have still been too many times that I've noticed the Uprising bread I buy at other stores can be fresher than the loaves I buy at the bakery itself. And yeah, I agree with many comments here, why no gluten-free breads and treats? read more

A trendy and cozy shop tucked away at the edge of commercial drive district that a cycling friend introduced. I'm almost 100% sure all their products are made in house. Not all items are daily fresh however, like their prepacked items, but the ones under the glass counter are. Regardless, what I like most about this bakery is that prices are reasonable and desserts are not overly sweet which is extremely difficult to find around town. I bake myself as well and usually half the sugar of recipes I find online so it's a godsend when I find a shop that mirrors my preference. Anyway my favourite here is their chocolate spelt muffin. It's not your typical chocolate muffin- obviously not as sweet, but also it has some heft and not just a fluffy cake mix. Their apple pie, though a tad pricey at $12, it is prettily handmade with a traditional a lattice top crust and NEITHER their top or bottom crust is sauce soaked mushy. In other words the crust is 100% hard and crispy. I just can't stand a crust that falls apart when a slice is removed. Enough of my rants. Go out for a taste! Side notes: I'd like to mention that their breads are sold throughout specialty supermarkets, cafes and specialty grocery stores, delis around Vancouver. Uprising Breads is a local bread company that use to be a co-op I hear. But I'm assuming since they sell at Whole Foods and everywhere I look is one of their products, they are bigger than before and not co-op anymore? When you first walk-in, the packaged products are on table that helps with picking something quick up. I love looking at all the breads and pies. They also have sandwiches, coffees, single buns and breads, muffins and such. The granola is really good as well and at Christmas they make a wheat free stollen cake. Yum! read more

YUM!!! Was close to where we stayed while visiting Vancouver. Scones were excellent, especially since they have savory which I prefer. Had something from here several times while in town. Would def recommended if you are a local or tourist like us. read more

I've been going to this bakery periodically and getting large orders of baked items as a treat for the office staff. As with most of the reviews I love the baked goods and so do my staff...it's the service that kills me. Right down to the woman who is the manager, unfriendly , unhelpful, generally an unhappy person, never even a "thank you" outta her. I would go someplace else in a heart beat but the pastries are worth the torture of having to deal with her. The 3 star rating was pushing it...the cinnamon buns made it a 3 not a 2! Every time I go I always come out feeling like I never want to go back.. Anyone have any other great pastry options in Vancouver?!?! I like their croissants, breakfast bars, scones and granola. They are very tasty. My favorites are the cheese croissants and apple strudel croissants. My husband loves the granola there. My complaint is every time I go there, the cashier can never get the order correctly. They always get the wrong pastries or miscount the order. Almost every time, I have to repeat the order at least three times. Only the owner got the order correctly and the rest of them are like half asleep or not too bright to get the order correctly. read more

This east van institution can be relied on for consistently fabulous and tasty breads, baked goodies, freshest of fresh soups/sandwiches and salads. That said, its only downfall is the poor customer service. Lunch time lineups can be painfully slow when often bumbling or laissez faire staff try to service their customers. If you have the time and patience, it's worth the wait, as the quality of the foods produced is top notch and consistantly very yummy. read more

I drive by this place every morning and see constant traffic in and out so I decided to stop by this am. I was impressed by the display of packaged baked goods, cases full of wraps and salads. Specialty coffee and teas. I ordered a couple of items. The line was slow but service was friendly. I have to tell you the croissants were awesome. Will come back soon. read more

I like this place. Its location off of Commercial means that it is often less crowded than some of the trendier cafes, their bread is great, and they have some wonderful treats - the blueberry cinnamon buns in particular are a lot of bang for your buck. The downsides: in a neighborhood packed with high-quality coffee options, Uprising's is just ok. First-time visitors should know that there's no wifi. If those things don't bother you, check it out. It's a nice spot to relax and recharge, have a conversation, or pick up a dessert. read more

I was driving down Commercial looking for a sandwich on my way back to the city and turned left on Venebles when I spotted Uprising Bakery. I had never been, but had heard of it (a hip bakery in the city I suppose) so I thought a bakery would be a great place for a sandwich. It was not a great place for a sandwich. When I walked in all of their 'sandwiches' were shockingly sad looking (think cooler at a 7-11 sandwiches), smushed and wrapped in cellophane. I was quite choked to see this. Then a shining light appeared, a sign on the counter that said "Fresh Made Sandwiches (on a baguette add .65)" and I was quickly relieved. I thought to myself, "good, I guess these cello sans are for the busy person and they understand a quality fresh made sandwich". I order a roast beef sandwich on a baguette and paid my $8 (or whatever price it was). By the time I could put my credit card away a roast beef baguette, smushed, and wrapped in cello appeared on the counter. This was their "Fresh Made Sandwich"...... I was even more disappointed because not only did I get sold a crappy fridge sandwich, but I was also lied to about it's freshness. Someone needs to buy this place a dictionary so they can look up the definition of Fresh. What a waste of time this place was. After reading the other reviews I'll add that the customer service was pretty low end (yes the employee's have a snobby hipster edge) as well, but the sandwich and the lies were my real issues. read more

I really want to like it, as it's in my neighbourhood, but the baking is only OK. The service however, sucks. It's terrible. Not even a one-off. Every single time I go there, they are horrible. I don't know if it is because the employers suck or that they just have terrible people working there, but it seriously needs to change. My money is much better spent elsewhere even if it means travelling outside the neighbourhood. read more

I have been a proud supporter of this great bakery for ten years and I was disappointed by the treatment of customers by one of the female staff members. I had noticed that she did not exhibit polite etiquette towards one of their customers who purchased baked goods. This employee threw the goods onto the table and had a disgruntled look on her face while serving him. The customer was very pleasant and didn't aggravate her in any way before or after this transaction. I was standing in the line when this poor customer service occurred. As well, to add insult to injury-she didn't give change for his purchase-she took his money, placed it into the til and slammed the drawer and walked away without giving him the change. There were other witnesses and customers waiting and this female staff member should be pulled aside and reprimanded for her less than professional conduct. I was shocked and very disappointed by this person's behaviour to a customer and NOT giving change which is considered stealing in my eyes. read more

I am a fairly regular customer at this joint because it is one of the few soup/sandwich places close to work. Although the food is decent, the service is abhorrent. I am pretty patient and try not to write a bad review unless I've given something more than a couple of chances (because everyone has bad days right?). Today, for the third time in a row this week, I stood as the sole person in line and waited while I was continuously ignored by multiple staff members. Two staff members stood with their backs turned, another staff member breezed by with his coffee and two other staff stood standing at the till/coffee bar chatting. The two in front of me turned around, looked at me and then turned back to continue talking. Another patron sidled up beside me and asked if I had been helped. I replied, 'Um, I'm just...waiting'. One of the staff turned around and glared at me as though I had just interrupted her nap. Your food is good - please update service to match the quality of your food! read more
