Comfortable setting with free WiFi, and my regular stylist does a great job (although other stylists there are very good, too, and I think they hire selectively to provide a quality experience). Coming in from outta town and I needed a cut. I was greeted immediately when I entered and the first thing I noticed was the indoor space: extremely clean, nice, and comfortable. I was seen in less than 8 minutes by Rie. She listened to what it is I liked and when I showed her a picture, she was able to execute a great, detail oriented cut with professionalism and skill. There I was, scathed by the unwavering laceration of Lady Janes' wrath. The "stylist" I saw there must have confused me as the man in the blurry photo she was given of the person who destroyed her village while she was on a trip to the big city. She sought her revenge on my head, and revenge she would have. I went to Upscale in desperation, I had just gotten the worst haircut I've ever gotten in my life, the stylist at Lady Janes could have been charged with a hate crime, as she clearly hated style. Upscale was slammed when I got there, I expected to be turned away as it was only an hour to close, and a horde of people waiting. The gentleman said he could get me in, but I'd likely be seated after hours. I agreed under the condition the stylist I saw was okay with it, as I didn't want to keep anyone past their working hours. I came back an hour and was greeted by Celeste. Much like her namesake, the experience was heavenly. She too couldn't believe what they did to my head, and for a moment I thought she also believed I burned down that woman at Lady Janes' village. I was reassured she could fix what was done. I was in disbelief because they are still trying to "fix" Chernobyl. I gave her carte blanche on what to do with my hair, as it was that bad. I said if it came down to it we could just shave it. She asked a few questions and took it from there. The end result was equivalent to a video you would see where Sarah McLaughlin was singing in the background as a gnarly and tattered mangy dog was rescued, and in the next scene his tail was wagging from a healthy weighted body playing with the kids in the backyard. So, I went back to this place to give it one more try. The owner (well one of the owners) decided to come out and tell me that if I don't remove my Yelp review then he wasn't interested in my business. I told him that my review was accurate and I was not going to remove it. If you think that treating your customers and trying to contain their views is a good way to do business then you are wrong. He also went and had my review deleted since I couldn't remember the account I used. We'll know I am back to update the view so everyone knows. This place does give a great haircut, but that doesn't mean it is a great company, or someplace that you should give your business to. Many different aspects make a company worth your money and your support. This place and the owners view that his time and his employees time is more important than the customers time is just wrong. There isn't grey area here it is black and white. If you say your company is open till 5PM then you should service customers till 5PM. This is an industry standard not only in haircuts but anyone with a retail shop. If you want to treat it differently and make a policy then POST the policy on your website and make people aware. Since you are not posting your policies you are playing the middle to fit your needs and not the needs of the customer. Bottom line this is a haircut and I have wasted enough of my time with this place. I recommend you find a different place. Go with someone that hasn't copied Sports Clips and didn't want to pay a franchise fee but essentially stole the model. That should have been a key indicator. read more

I enjoy this place. I use to go to Great Clips, but got completely sick of how they tried to get you in an out as fast as possible, not really listening to what you actually wanted with your haircut. Here's they will do Shampoo/Condition, haircut, neck trim, and you can add a neck trim with a straight razor, and other services I have not yet taken advantage of. They are decently priced for what you get. Just a few dollars more than Great Clips and far less than a "salon" They take the time to give you what you need and give you personal attention. They are a bit of a drive for me, but I'll go back regularly when I can. read more

I figured I'd give it a try and I'm glad I did. I've moved since I started going here but still go out of my way to go here. This isn't your cheapo SportsClips/Supercuts/Great Clips experience. Read the name. "Upscale Male". If you are a man and want to look like a man, this is where you go. Yes, there are no appointments taken. Trust me, when you show up there, you'll understand. If you think the pricing is too high, feel free to go to wal-mart and have them hack your hair for $6. Just don't get mad when you get turn down for that job interview or by that hot girl at your office. When you get in, you'll have three options. Wow. That simple. Haircut, haircut with shampoo, or haircut with shampoo and hot towel. I highly recommend the shampoo. This isn't your typical. Spray my hair with water and shampoo and pull my hair as you attempt to towel dry shampooing. This is a "I'm in heaven, give me more, shampooing and massage." I have only received one haircut that I was less than satisfied with. Guess what? I went in the next day, told them I wanted something different, they made the changes at no extra cost. That is customer satisfaction. I found my stylist, Britt. She is amazing. But also know that everyone else that has worked on me is amazing as well. Few suggestions: -try different stylist and find the one that fits your needs. -be as specific as possible with what you want BUT be open with suggestion from the stylist. Been going to Upscale Male since they opened. Used to go to the one on Eola Rd. and moved over to this location when it closed. This place got me over my fear of places like this, I only went to a salon before. But I've never had a bad cut here. The environment is comfortable, adult, and as the name implies -- male. The girls that cut hair are all friendly, and so is the owner who often is working the front desk. Sometimes it looks like their might be a long wait, but even if they have 4 or 5 ahead of me, they usually have 3 or 4 cutting hair so it goes fast. And who minds reading a Men's magazine and watching ESPN while sitting in a comfortable leather seat for a little while? read more

Like the other reviews state, there is an upscale atmosphere that you don't get with places like great clips, sports clips, etc. and it's not feminine like a salon. They use high quality products and provide a decent cut. The main reason why I'm rating this 3-stars is because it's still a luck of the draw place when it comes to the stylist you get. You can request a stylist to cut your hair, if she's there, but it is not really advertised or pushed. They have business cards for the stylists also, but again they don't give them to you, you're on your own to identify your stylist and take one. Another reason UM only gets 3-stars is that some of their stylists don't seem to have the knowledge and customer service they preach. For example, I was in one time and wanted to get the opinion of the hairstylist about changing my hairstyle. She seemed confused and offended that I did not know exactly what I wanted or that I was deviated from what I had done in the past. In addition, I wanted by nape (back of the neck) tapered and multiple stylists seemed to be confused by this term, and they only seemed to understand round or square, which are both styles of blocking. If you look at websites about getting a quality haircut, they all mention tapered napes and their advantages to blocking. Overall, it's not a bad place to get your hair cut and much better than great clips, sports clips, etc. I'm a bit picky so some of my criticisms of this place my not apply to everyone. read more

This place is great. I have been going here for 7 years I think (back when they had an Eola Rd location). Place is always clean, they have friendly and outgoing stylists, and you get a great haircut at a reasonable price. Because of how popular this place is, sometimes you have to wait, but if you're a regular, you learn to avoid the peak times. They have plenty of stylists, so if you don't have a preference, they usually get to you in under 30 minutes. I see the same 2 stylists when I go in and they are AWESOME. At the risk of having my wait times extended, I will tell you their names....Jackie and Jaclyn. They have been with the place since the beginning and have a great following. If you are an adult male, stop getting your hair cut from those chopshops....spend $5 more and get it done right. read more

I have been going here for almost a year now. I visit here every 2-3 weeks. I have had many different stylist throughout my visits. Every one of them have done a great job. I have a mid blend style haircut. Every stylist has been very good with keeping the mid blend down and not giving a high and tight like I've experienced at other places. Today was the first time I ever visited upscale male. I am moving up to that area and wanted to find a go-to place for my hair before I had to settle for the quick places (hair cuttery, supercuts, etc). I had read the reviews on here and was looking forward to a pleasant experience. And my visit was everything I hoped it would be and more. A 30 minute wait didn't seem excruciating at all with the set up of the shop at all. I tried the executive and was very pleased with the cut and the shampoo. It is a couple of bucks more than a hair cuttery cut, but I left feeling like I had a quality cut and with confidence. I went with the straight edge neck shave to try it out as well and it was well worth the extra buck. In short, I'd highly recommend upscale male. And I'm certain that I have found my new barber. read more

This salon is very nice in terms of location, design, layout, cleanliness, and services offered. More importantly, my stylist there is amazing! My only complaint is the salon's "walk-in only" policy. While this policy may be well intended, it sometimes causes you to have to wait in the salon for over an hour to be seen if your preferred stylist has several people ahead of you. Also, although their website provides their stylists' schedules and a disclaimer that "Requests For A Specific Stylist May Be Limited During The Last Hour Of Their Shift," I learned the hard way (after making the drive there) that this does not necessarily mean you will be seen by your preferred stylist on that day even if you come in *more* than an hour before the end of their shift. Instead, you may be told that, because of the number people already in line, you will have to either come back another day or see a different stylist. In short, this is a nice salon, but I do wish they accepted appointments. UPDATE: After posting this review, I received a telephone call from the owner, who was very kind and thoughtful. After talking with him, I am convinced that this salon cares about its clients and is seeking ways to improve their process. read more

If you have a stylist you prefer, you can request them. I also like that they store which guard was used during your last haircut in the computer so you don't have to remember for the stylist. I went to Upscale Male after avoiding getting my hair cut for the last few months because I needed to find a new barber. I avoided the salons because of the price, and the chain places in fear of getting a botched cut. Little did I know that this place was right around the corner from my house. I went in on Monday morning and was promptly greeted by the manager who explained their different options and was not pushy at all. Since it was still pretty early and there was hardly anyone there, Britt saw me right away and did a great job. She took her time and kept asking me if it was shaping up the way I'd like, rather than just doing her thing without consulting me. Regardless of which of the three packages you get, the price is going to be less than a salon but more than a chain barber. Personally, I'm MORE than okay with that, given the quality of the experience. The environment is very relaxed, clean, and classy, and in my experience the staff is top-notch. Very happy with my decision to get my hair cut here. Put it off till the last minute and I was happy to find a good barber who did walk-ins. The wait was about 30 mins as told to me on the phone and when I checked in. That's really not a lot for Friday evening in my book. Cassie cut my hair and took a lot of time to understand what I was looking for in a style since I wanted to try something new. She quickly understood and explained why hair looks the way it does and how we could work to make it look better. It was a great conversation as we swapped stories during the haircut. I'm pretty happy with my new hairstyle and the good lady approves too! The prices for the cut are very reasonable and I'd definitely recommend the place to my friends. PS: I couldn't get the manager on the way out. I have been going to Upscale Male for the past 4 years now. I enjoy the service and the entire staff. Not all haircuts are alike. Some take longer than others and they stylist will take their time with every client to ensure they get the best fit haircut. Which makes sense on why they do not take reservations. You can request a specific stylist and their schedules are posted online. Maria does a great job. They all do. I recommend trying different stylist out to find the one you like best. For those that go to the Sports Salon, no worries, Upscale has TVs located on every station to help out. I am sure I'll be going here for a very long time. If you do make it in, make sure to upgrade to the shampoo wash as well. Its not your typical wash and rinse. You get a relaxing head massage as well. I love this place! I have been going here for about 3 years now. After my first visit i didn't return for about a year, only because i was in high school and didn't really care about what my hair looked like, at least not enough to pay 20 dollars for it. Now I go roughly once a month. Easily the best barber shop in the area. I have seen for different barbers and they were all phenomenal! The first person i went to did very good, but i don't remember who it was because that was a longggg time ago. The second person i worked with was Katherine. Unfortunately, she no longer works there. Whats even more unfortunate is that i got my haircut by her probably for a year straight, so when she left I was kind of skeptical about going to someone else. I was quickly reassured by the owner that every single one of their stylists is great at what they do and that i would walk out of there satisfied. He wasn't lying! Kelly is the barber that I had gone to. She was very friendly and extremely professional. What i really liked is that she knew how my hair flowed and cut it accordingly. Before i could tell her the specific way i wanted it cut she knew exactly what to do based on my hair's texture and flow. After Kelly i went to Allison, who i currently go to every time. I highly recommend her! She's very friendly and a great conversationist. She's a little younger than some of the other girls there but you wouldn't be able to tell by how well she cuts hair. Seems like she has far more experience than she does! She is also very knowledgeable about the different products and gave me a great recommendation on what product to use for my hair. One thing that sets this place apart form the rest is, in my opinion, the level of cleanliness. Everything is clean, the place has a very modern and "upscale" feel to it. I think their only competition is Lady Janes which i don't even believe to be close to as good as Upscale Male. If you're in the area and want a good haircut for a more than reasonable price, try it out. You won't regret it. (only reason i didn't give 5 stars is because you can't make an appointment. i understand why and it doesn't change the fact that i will go there, it would just be a little more convenient.) hope this helps read more

After speaking with the owner, Murad, I decided to give this place another try and it was such a difference from my last visit. He is very concerned about the level of service his guests receive and handled my situation professionally. The haircut I received this time around was great and best of all, no irritation. It seems as though the battery issue for the clippers was resolved. There was a bit of a wait (about 45 minutes) but I expected it since it was Saturday morning. The waiting area is nice and comfortable and they had the TV on ESPN so the wait did not seem that long. read more
