I'd rate this place 2.5 stars. Came in recently to sell after being in there a couple of times. I want to preface this review by saying my first job was a BUYER at one of their competitors. Obviously this was eons ago, but as I understand what goes on I the business, here is my opinion on this place. SELLING: brought 2-3 bags of clothing. Buyer took the obvious choices. Some American eagle high waisted jeans, my graduation dress and a pair of cheeky black BDG jean shorts. I don't think she was rude, I don't think she was particularly nice either but I definitely got the feeling that she was judging me when I first walked in. But maybe that's just me. She took four items for $21 and didn't bother to explain to me why she didn't take the rest of my items which is standard for a buyer so that made me think she was inexperienced, unprofessional or lazy or all of the above. Just a hot tip buyer in the camel, black dress and gladiator sandals,explaining to your guests why you cannot take your items is protocol for EVERY buyer because it helps guests understand what you're looking for. BUYING: as I was waiting I browsed through the clothing selection. It was meh. There were cute things, there were ugly things. Just like any other store. I want to say however that you're pricing some of your F21 things way too high. The pricing is off. Maybe they're still working on getting the pricing adjusted just right but if I were you I wouldn't price forever 21 things at $15 while pricing my BP items at 8.99. Anyways, It was a nice store. Overall I got the impression that the store is more pricey than it should be for the brands they're selling. Personally I cannot see myself returning to this place to buy or sell. When I go to a re-sale store to buy or to sell I like to think I'm getting a good deal. Here, I don't think that is happening. I don't think I'll ever return honestly. Id rather just donate to goodwill rather than feel like I'm being picked apart for the items I bring in by a teenage "fashionista" who is being overworked and underpaid. read more

I am a recent high school grad/college freshman who brought in 150+ items. Most were from Hollister, Abercrombie, H&M, Forever 21, and Brandy Melville. I had many clothes including jeans with tags because I had a growth spurt, and also was purging my closet, and was not able to wear them. I did not expect everything to be bought back, however, NOT ONE of my clothes were "acceptable" and all that was bought back were three shorts that were thrown in at the last minute from my college brother. I even tried on clothes and I discovered holes, a broken zipper, and stained clothing. So, I put these items back on the racks for someone else that may not be as selective as I am. I am confused why the selection process is so random. The quality and selection of this store is marginal at best. I am VERY disappointed with my experience today. read more

The employees are what kills it for me. The entire time I have been in this store the employees complain about going through peoples clothes, they act condescending, rude, and snobby. Awsome awsome awsome! Love this place! Very friendly staff. I brought in 2 big boxes of clothes and they bought a lot of it! Got $54 in the end which made me one happy camper! Before I stopped here I went to the buffalo exchange in Costa Mesa and they only bought one nice button down shirt from me for $3. So I highly recommend this place over buffalo exchange. Location was organized, people were nice and asked if I needed help. But, weren't pushy. I love the "$5 dive" items! I am a total bargain shopper, so I found a romper and a cute fringe top for $5 each as well as adorable black/white wedges for $18! They have a variety of items as well which is great, you can tell they try very hard to follow the trends. I definitely want to bring my items for them to buy, buy reading the reviews worry me just a bit as any consumer I want to be able to sell my items as well for cash or a discount. But, overall it was my first visit there and it was a great one! I will definitely go back and bring my items to see what happens. read more

I don't care how low their payout is, I personally expect a low payout at a second hand store so no problem there, what my problem is has to do with the horrible, rude and condescending staff! I went in recently to drop off a bag of clothes, some were taken and I donated the rest, no big deal. But the young lady behind the counter with the short dark hair, bull ring thru her nose with the long acrylics was FAR from pleasant, and it really disappoints me she's the face of this store some afternoons. I never got a hello, I never got a goodbye, I got a "have you sold here before? Leave your bag up there and I'll get to it soon". Uh hello to you also? After looking thru the bag, which was done in a decent amount of time, she says "from what I actually took, 15 cash or $18 store credit. Whatever you choose just sign that box on your paper". I signed the box, grabbed the cash, and As I walking out a phone rang, couldn't tell if it was her cellphone or store phone, and she goes "what?!". Quite loudly at that. Even the lady behind me pointed out her behavior and said she'd be leaving instead of purchasing something for her daughter, we laughed and walked out together, without a goodbye from the employee. Now remember, I have no problem with the store itself, but this lady is the reason I will never go back, because I quite frankly never want to see her again. read more

Went in with about 17 different good quality items, no stains tears or faded color, wait about 15 minutes, and am told they "aren't interested" in any pieces. Do not take your clothes here to sell it is a scam! Took some shoes that I bought four days before going and realized I didn't need them. My friend told me about this place and thought about trying it out. I went and waited about 45 minutes to an hour, when they finally called me back they told I could $10 for them. I was shocked when I heard that I payed nearly $200 for two pairs and to just get $10 is outrageous. Don't go here if you want what you payed for bargained for a higher price. I went to the pre-opening on Thursday and was pretty disappointed. There was a line of people that waited there 2 hours in the sun and they made everyone wait an extra 20 minutes because the mayor was late. Then they let in so many people that you couldn't even move around and the staff was completely overwhelmed and no one knew what was going on. The stuff is ok and some things are priced well while some of it is overpriced. One plus is that it is unique to this area. It's hard to find any good thrift, resale or consignment stores in south oc so I am going to give it another chance. I gave it 2 stars in hopes that once they smooth out the kinks it will be a decent shopping experience. read more

I came with a ton of stuff to sell and they were friendly when I walked in. Unlike other exchange stores I've been to, the employee went through my clothes without asking me anything about them or telling me how much they would give me for each piece. So basically she handed me a ticket that had my total and I have no idea how they got to that total. Seems sketchy, how can I trust that they are paying me what my things are worth? I have a beautiful black leather Miss Me Couture jacket I bought for over $200 last winter that I wore once and other very nice gently used items. I started picking the nicer things out, including the leather jacket, and asking how much they were giving me for those items in particular. All of them were shockingly below value. I was offered $6.80 for the leather jacket!!!!! About the same for unworn designer rain boots (it's socal) and designer jeans. Sooo not okay. I took all my nice things back because I'm pretty sure if I posted these things on craigslist I would have offers for at least 10 times the amount they offered me at Uptown Cheapskate. I took the money for some of the less nice stuff because I'm downsizing and have to get rid of it. They have a few great things for good prices but also a lot of undesirable items. But the system for selling is just so bad, I wouldn't return unless they made serious changes. At this point, they truly live up to their "cheapskate" name. read more

Wayy overpriced for a secondhand store. The clothes are priced only a few dollars cheaper than the original value, and sometimes even more. I saw a brand new dress from Marshall with the tag still on it, and the store priced it $2 more than it's original price. Also, the clothes there are nothing special, just leftover Forever 21, H&M and the typical trendy clothes I could buy brand new for a few more dollars. There's plenty of other thrift stores in the area that are cheaper and more unique. read more

My experience could be different than others but I brought in three bags of clothes-no stains or tears, expecting them to take at least a couple items like every other consignment store had. They were busy so called me a couple hours later letting me know that not a single item was to be taken. When I asked why, she responded "we only take clothes that have been in the mall in the last year or so." I found that super weird especially since I had several name brand expensive items in the bags, and she showed no sympathy or even care at all..but maybe your experience will be different. I agree with some other reviewers here about staff and rudeness. First time I walked in, I was greeted politely and given courtesy. Come 2nd and 3rd time, it wasn't busy to where I couldn't get any acknowledgement such as a hi. The staff didn't smile and seemed cold behind counters. Again, if UR in customer service, always greet the customers!! One staff member was sifting through a gal's clothes but didn't accept many items and was criticizing them in a rude manner. Gal's clothes were pretty good too. Weird and bad for business. Their stuff isn't that great. Just because a clothing article has the brand, doesn't make it quality. There are tiers for this. Their stuff is mediocre, I think. I'm going to reconsider and donate my stuff to a thrift store. Not worthwhile. What do U expect with a name like Uptown Cheapskate in a ghetto plaza. read more

I gave this place one star only because the staff here is extremely rude. Not only to me and other customers, but to one another. I thought it was extremely unprofessional to see an employee rolling her eyes at another employee, and it made me instantly want to get out of that store! I've given this place several chances, and honestly, I do love how you can get quality second-hand and new items. However, I find myself getting extremely anxious and uncomfortable with such an uninviting atmosphere. The only other thing I'd have to say is that if you plan on selling, take it to another store that will give you a little more for your items. I brought in several pairs of boots, shorts, and a few tops, and they were looking to purchase four items from me. The grand total for their offer was a whopping $12... think about that--roughly $3 per item. I understand that they have to make a profit too, but paying me about 15% of what they'd sell it for is well below their 25% upfront cash policy. read more
