I was pleasantly surprised to find this place here during my last visit to Penzeys in the same strip of stores. My pal that was with me immediately recognized the name. She lives in College Park, almost directly across from their other location. I originally was going to give this place three stars, but then I thought I can't fault them because they are geared towards millennials and I'm a bit older Gen Xer. I like how the clothing is sorted by color, and like many thrift stores, by type of clothing. The clothing I browsed through was all in great condition, and I did walk out with a new-to-me Lands End top for just $3.00. My pal bought a pair of Bermuda shorts for the same price. I can see myself returning when in need of spices, but I wouldn't make an out of the way stop here unless combined with other errands I need to take care of along The Pike. read more

Customers should be given a physical list and/or be able to ALL clothing Mfrs. online that this store accepts. There are only 24 on the Rockville site but there are way more Mfrs they do accept. And customers should be able to see how prices are determined. Revealing this information can save customers their travel time, and embarrassment of being rejected or lowballed for their accepted items. read more

I like buying clothes from Uptown. However, my review is related to selling clothes. I just took in two leather jackets and the woman at the counter looked at them for less than 10 seconds and declined to purchase them and I asked why. In her explanation (about their wooden hangers supposedly messing up leather) she referred to my jackets as "pleather." I don't buy nor wear pleather clothes, or furniture for that matter. If she had simply taken another 30 seconds and looked at the tags of both of the jackets, which she hadn't, she would have seen that the two jackets were both genuine leather. One coat has a Wilson Leather tag, and the other is a Sahara brand leather jacket, and the tag says it's 100% cuir leather. (And I looked cuir up and it's a term used in England in France, and there are strict guidelines on what meets the classification of cuir leather. For example, in France, split leather cannot be referred to as cuir leather.) And a Sahara jacket pretty close to the one I brought in is listed on eBay for $180. You don't pay $180 for pleather. Next time lady, check the tags! And if you still don't want to buy them, that's fine. But at least do your job properly. read more

For the eco-conscious, the consignment model for clothing is so wonderful, and people of all walks of life are so interested in it - not just the 20-somethings to whom this store caters. Consignment should be for everyone. This store would do much better if it expanded the range of items it sells, especially because there's nothing else similar in our area. Sold and bought stuff multiple times and never had an issue until now. The a Took in 5 bags full of brand new clothes and shoes. They wanted to give $54 and there was a brand new jacket with the price tag STILL attached to the jacket which was $200. The girl who was going through the clothes had ripped part of the tag saying how much the jacket was. The girls who were working there were completely rude and claimed the tag had gotten "snagged" this place is a joke and not worth dealing with! read more

I wanted to sell some cloth and shoes and it was actually so horrible, they make you wait for like hours and hours and then right when your turn comes by They don't even accept it. I was in the area and happened to see that the store buy clothes for cash. I brought clothes, purses and wallets to sell. The check-in process was easy. I entered my information on iPad. They verified my driver's license. They put a sticker on the box I brought in and told me the wait time for the evaluation period. When they finished evaluating, someone in the store called me. I also received an email. They only kept a handful of the items I brought in. The items were popular brands for younger generation, such as North Face, Marc Andrews, Hollister, Coach...etc. I brought in two totes of similar brand names to sell. One of them was made of coated canvas, the other was made of pebble leather. They offered the same price for both, when the leather tote cost significant more. I decided to keep the leather tote. I like this is a convenient option to try and sell clothes I no longer want. I think the whole process was smooth. It was good that I can get cash or store credit. read more

Me and my sister decided to visit this interesting place, to use our free time and get some money on the side. The wait was 3 1/2 hours, and when we got there we were forced to fold our clothes after turning them in. After doing that they told us to come later during he day which we did, we arrived there later for a pleasant surprise of little to no money, from 2 baskets overflown with new clothing. The customer service was pitiful and our possessions were thrown upon the counter, with a side of attitude. I do not recommend this place for any sort of shopping or exchange. read more

AVOID. HORRIBLE STORE. TOTAL SCAM. Brought my clothes in for selling and they didn't even look at my clothes AT ALL. Wasted gas and time. After I got my clothes that they said "weren't the style they wanted" I noticed that the clothes were exactly how I placed them in my bag and completely untouched. A huge bag of clothes and not a single one made the cut, meaning they didn't even look through. while the clothes I brought in were free people, anthropology, zara, etc. and still in original packages. Don't sell here. Seriously. I used to sell in the past here, I'm talking like 4 years ago, and it was great. I don't know what's happened since but it's seriously not worth it. Their inventory is too massive. As she was giving me my stuff back, the girl who looked over it said "this is such a cute hat, we just can't take it right now, we have too many hats." ... then she proceeded to hand me a paper that says what they're currently looking for. Guess what was on there? HATS. Out of all my items (H&M, Old Navy, Boohoo, etc.) they only purchased 3 things for a measly $8. And one of them was a very old pair of work out leggings. My boyfriend brought in 3 bags of nice sweaters, button down shirts, skinny jeans, all from places like H&M, Levis... the only thing they bought from him was a Champs jacket for $5. Jokes on them, it definitely had a hole in it. We waited around for 2.75 hours for $13. Nuts. (Also 45 mins longer than they said they'd be.) If you want to make real money, I would suggest Poshmark. I've made over $900+ on items that Uptown Cheapskate didn't want. Save yourself the trouble of going there. read more

Loved this place! The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. They will hold stuff behind the counter or even hold your fitting room. YES FITTING ROOMS ARE OPEN DURING COVID! Everyone has on masks and they have stickers on the ground reminding about social distancing. I Got some great gems in clothing and shoes here today! They have a wide variety of stuff including mens and women's casual clothing and shoes, women's bralettes, dresses, shirts, jeans and pants. They have a huge sale going on with a lot of stuff marked down 25-50%. They also had some jewelry and hair things and sunglasses. read more

Real rating:-5 I see yelp has removed my first review. A dishonest practice by basically censoring real public opinions. This place is possibly the worst establishment I have ever seen. The quality of what they sell is worse than a Salvation Army store. The workers are uneducated about any type of fashion or fashion brands. And their buying is basically a complete rip off. I was offered $6 for a $500 dollar jacked in pristine condition and $6 for a Rag and Bone jacket. It was a shocking rip off. I heard the sales girl say she wanted the jacket for herself. I realize that lack of educated and polite workers is prevalent in this country, but this store takes rude and uniformed salespeople to a whole new level. I went there to drop off clothes and it took a little over and hour when there were 6 employees sitting behind the register just talking, the store was not busy at all and they just let my clothes sit there and I had to go up and ask for them to sort through them, the employees were complaining out loud about how people tell them they give bad service, when it is true, I should not have had to wait an hour for them to sort through around 15 pieces of clothes, when I was in the front of the line. read more
