They nickle and dime you to death!! Parking was $10 and $20. That was ok because I want to park close. It was a cold night and you could tell the heat was not turned on until the club opened at 7. It felt like a friggin meat locker. There is a 2 item minimum on food and/or drink. The food menu needs a serious revamp to include bar food and not just full meals. Nachos, chips and salsa/guacamole would be nice. How about some bread or crackers to go with the salads. A choice of soup would be nice too on a cold night. Please add coffee, tea or hot chocolate to the menu for those who do not drink soft drinks or alcohol. A $3 bottle of water wont fly. The show was very good but my "incidental" charges cost more than the show. Having been a patron since the Piedmont days, I must say I was really dissatisfied. I probably wont be back. read more

I have gone to Uptown several times before and never been disappointed by the comedians. This is why I gave the two stars (never had a problem before this night). However, on this particular night (Friday 04/05/19) my friends and I decided on a whim to go check the place out. We were in the mood to laugh and looked forward to a good time. Little did we know that we would leave offended, angry, and saddened. When we first approached we noticed that the crowd looked very different then we had experienced before. I shrugged it off and thought "huh...Uptown is more diverse then before...nice." Later, I noticed that there was a man wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat in the front of the crowd. I thought to myself, "wow...these comedians are going to go in on this guy! Can't wait!" The first comedian was fine, funny but not overly so, and entertaining. I was curious at why he had not commented on the man with the big red glaring hat on, right in front of the stage mind you...but I thought to myself again maybe he is waiting for the main act to comment. Then the main act entered. Two charismatic twin African American men named The Hodge Twins. My friends and I were excited and ready! Then they opened their mouths....First thing they mentioned was how white the crowd was which signified to them that, "Maybe Black lives really do matter." I was instantly appalled but wondered if maybe it was just one inappropriate statement and things would get better. I was completely wrong! They went on to talk about how horrible their neighborhood was because it was filled with "Niggas" (emphasis on this word) with the white patrons in the crowd erupting in laughter. They mentioned that they dated really really dark women when younger which their dad did not approve...again laughter from the white crowd members erupted. They even asked where all their "Niggas" were in the crowd stating oh we probably can't see you...at the end of their show during a q and a they stated something about raping a girl because they didn't get consent. Again crowd laughter... My friends and I were so offended and upset...not only about this racist and self-hating routine from two black men, and the mostly white crowd erupting in laughter every time they exclaimed "Niggas," and made racist statements, but also that we entered a space that I had always felt was safe, a black owned establishment with a reputation for extremely funny comedy shows. Once we realized that we were not in the twilight zone and this was truly happening, we stood up and left asking for our money back (this process took a while allowing us to continue to overhear the extremely offensive routine). Three others joined us. The owner gave us our money back and was very supportive, understanding and accommodating. He explained, after I asked why he would book such an act, that the contract had been completed a year ago and at the time he did not know who they were. A week or so prior he discovered who the twins were and noted that by then it was too late to back out. While I understand his explanation, and felt satisfied in the moment, I realized later that It was not enough for me...in my opinion he should have cancelled the show. No way would I have allowed such hatred to enter my establishment if I had the ability to control it. I am extremely disappointed and saddened by this experience. I'm hurt on so many levels. This was a huge eyeopener and one I will never forget! Although I plan to give the establishment another chance. I want this to be a learning experience for all. read more

Nice venue, open mic comedy night. Door and open mic hosts were great. Actually they thought I was a comedian, which makes this story even crazier. Couldn't figure out the service situation though. 3 servers and about 10 customers. After being there for an hr, I waved down a server for a beer. After waiting 15 min, I flagged her back down assuming she forgot. No, she stated that it was downstairs and someone had to go get it. (Maybe "someone" was me) So, I said I'll have any light beer please. Beer was $6, which is reasonable for a comedy club, tipped $2. Finished beer, waited 30 more min and flagged down another server to order another. She brought it out, I gave her $10. Assuming she was getting change. Well, 40 min later beer has been finished and I was still waiting for the change. I looked at one of the comedians who looked like me and was also waiting a very lengthy time on his order. Said, if she comes back out with the change put it in the tip jar for the comedians. I hate leaving bad reviews but the servers in this place seemed to almost go out of their way to make me feel not welcomed. read more

I did not attend the comedy club but the lounge side for a birthday party. First the decor is not impressive...just tacky. Second, management booked too many birthday parties in a small over crowded area. People did now what section was for their party and my friend provided food and we had to keep telling people this was not for their party. Third, I went to the bar and asked for a rum drink and was told they didn't have rum??? This a stable for a bar!!! Fourth, I understand a club can get warm with a lot of bodies and dancing BUT the area for the party had no ti very low A/C...the DJ asked over the PA system, "need A/C in the back". I gave one star but it should be a MINUS one star. read more

So on a bit of a whim we de decided to hit Uptown. I had probably driven by it 100 times, always thinking, I need to hit that spot one day. So we did. From the outside it looks pretty crappy, dilapidated, horrible....whatever you want to call it, it just looked bad. As we pulled up, one of the host quickly gave us the "hook up" charging us $30 for vip parking and admission. A deal that saved us about 5 or 6 bucks, but you know, its a recession so everybody has a little come up. We stood in line for about 20 minutes as they cleaned up the venue from the previous show. Finally walking in, the place was a lot bigger that I anticipated. Basically as soon as you sit down, waitresses are there to take orders, this place was definitely run very efficiently. So things you need to know: a) The wings and veggie buger are pretty damn good. b) The drinks are expensive, actually the whole damn experience is expensive, so go in there knowing you are going to spend 80 bucks off top. c) You have to buy 2 items either from the food list or the drink list if you are coming to the show. Dont think if your azz asks for a ice water, they wont bring out a bottle of "Voss" (i think thats what its called) and charge your azz $7. The comedians on this particular night (especially the "headliner") were hilarious, and brought a lot of well needed laughs. This is definitely something that I'd like to do again....just gotta find away to get free tickets or something! read more

I honestly think this place deserves a ZERO STARS. Unfortunately, the jokes performed by the comedians were not enough to overlook the hideous service by UCC itself. I was able to go to the show for free but I would have much rather paid the comedians for their performance and not given one rotten diem to UCC. As someone else noted, UCC parking is $15. The menu specifies ever person must order one beverage of food item with a $10 minimum charge. From the looks of this place, I was hesitant to even buy a beverage but refused to pay $5 for a bottle watter. I opted for a $10 drink. Other people in my part order either food and a drink or just a drink. The show itself was about 45 minutes to an hour behind schedule. The seating situation in their is chaotic and there is not a plentiful accommodation for parties greater than 4. The "warm-up" comedian seemed to have a tighter show than the headliner; overall, both performances were good. When the checks were brought back out to the floor, my table's server requested a few of us who only order a drink (for $10) to buy another item. At this point, the show is winding down. The server stated it's the club's policy that each person order two items to avoid the $5 surcharge. In this instance, I would have been better ordering nothing at all and paying the $5 surcharge. After a few exchanges, the manager "pardon" us on a second item charge since that policy was not on the menu. The club still tacked on a gratuity charge. This place is grimey in all aspects. I cannot even believe this place passes health inspections and are allowed to sell food. Certainly the first and the last time. This was singlehandedly the worse service I have EVER experienced. Even the free tickets do not save this POS club. Yet, if you still desire to go, just park on the street and pay the $5 surcharge (hydrate before you go into the club). Boooooo!!!! This comedy club stinks. I went there the other night for an open mic night with a social club. We had a reservation for 20+ people, but they would not let us put our seats together (why take our reservation). I paid $10 for the valet, but it's not really valet. They only park your car; you have to retrieve it. How is that valet? There was a $10 cover and a 2 item minimum. I don't mind spending a little to have fun, but I didn't expect to spend $50 to watch an open mic night either. The talent was mediocre, with one stand out. The service was awful and slow. I see why they add in their own tip even no matter how small your party. What a mess! One person at my table ordered the onion rings and she said they had clearly been reheated in a microwave. The bathroom was disgusting; I wish I had snapped a photo. I had to order food because I had a drink earlier that day and couldn't stand to have 2 more. The food was of the lowest quality. I went to Uptown last weekend for the first time and had a blast. I noticed that most people complaining got the free tickets and expected better service or didn't want to pay the $10 minimum per person. We bought our tickets online and were seated quickly in the second row. There were 5 comedians that performed and they were all really funny, but the host, Darryl Damn, stole the show! The food is average, but I wasn't expecting much. I just know that I left out of there with a headache from laughing so much and I can't wait to go back again! read more

I go to Uptown Comedy Corner for the talent alone . There is a lot of opportunity for improvement on other fronts though: 1)The fact that they make you wait in line is absolutely ridiculous to me and I try to time it so that I walk in right when they are letting people in. 2)There is an entry fee, unless you have some sort of free pass, AND a two item minimum per table per person. OBSURD! If you don't meet the two item minimum per person per table, then each person has to pay a $10 surcharge. 3)The parking situation is...interesting. It's $10 to park unless you can find street parking which requires planning and luck considering the area. 4)The food and drink menu is decent and most items are priced at $8 on up. 5)As for the service, the wait staff is pretty friendly. I've nevery had a problem. 6)The overall look of the facility is much to be desired. It's really time for them to do some renovations and they could clean up the place a little bit. Overall, I rated them an a-ok, because of the talent that they bring in alone. If it wasn't for some of the acts that I've seen over the years, I would not waste my time going to this establishment...and even now, it has to be someone really good in order for me to agree to go. read more

Good but not great. Even though I haven't experienced better. But there could be something more. I just cannot put my finger on it. The first time I stopped there we saw the 8.30 show. Had 3 artists, hilarious host, it was pre-election so a lot of election-laced jokes. Had a great time. The second time, it was for the 10.30 show. Not so funny. Ended pretty quickly actually and then the door staff was a problem. Parking is a bit steep and the door staff can act like it's the gates of heaven. By the time you get through them you are so irritated. Then, the 2 drink minimum for a longer show, you need 2 drinks but for a short one, you have to really gulp it down. So when I'm in the ATL i try and make sure I hit this place up. I am on their text messaging list to get free tickets to shows. That is what makes this place awesome to me. Tonight we were treated with opening acts and up and coming comedians along with the Headliner. It was a Friday and the early show was no more than about 65-75 people but just enough because it can get kind of cramped. Our drinks and food came out in a decent amount of time. A minor mix up but they handle it for me. We found a park on the back in the building along the street so no valet for us and more money to spend inside. Will be back. read more

I've been twice and both experiences were completely different... Parking right behind the building is "valet" but $20. The additional parking is $10. Both times the prices stayed the same, so expect to pay at least $10 for parking that is somewhat close to the building. I didn't see any other parking, trust me I looked. Be weary of the free tickets that are always being given away. The club will make their money one way or another. Even if you buy your tickets, there is a two item minimum or $10 surcharge for everyone. Uptown would really do well if they just charged $10 for tickets and not force people to buy what they don't want. The first time I went, I opted for the surcharge. The second time, I was a little hungry, so I ordered food. The waiter greeted us as soon as we sat down. I hadn't decided, so I asked him to give me a few minutes. He replied "well you have to order something or pay $10 so I'll come back." That information is clearly printed on the menu, we get it. I was surprised, because the same waitress from before was there, it was such a contrast. Anyway, the cheapest thing on the menu is fries and they are $4.50. They were basically frozen fries from a bag they and tasted reheated. I had already drank so I ordered a bottle of water which was $2.75. Our waiter told us that they were out of bottled water, but brought tap and still charged us the same. It seems like they are very money hungry. I gave Uptown a two, because even with all the bad, the talent is wonderful. I laughed so hard the second time I went, my throat hurt the day after. They also may need a good deal, like half off food/drink or certain nights, because I noticed that the crowd seemed to be all the same age group. I am going to let my friend's Facebook review put it best: I went to Uptown Comedy Corner in Hapeville and...*cues story... So I stopped by here tonight for the 1st time. I know that most comedy clubs require a two item minimum. No problem. I normally choose a meal and a drink. Had I foresaw my future tonight, I would've gotten a meal at the Dwarf House. We arrive and an entire [group] is sitting in our [reserved] section. Instead of inconveniencing them, we were shown to the VIP section near the stage. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but if you've ever gone to a comedy club, you know anybody the comedian can see is fair game. We weren't trying to live that life so we moved to a different booth [which had an obstructed view]. I should've known something was amiss when we didn't even have a regular server for our area. But a young lady from a completely different section came and took our order. We received our drinks [though they were sold out of options offered] in a reasonable amount of time, but then it went downhill from there. My friends received their food after a good wait. It arrived to the table as it should...hot... Me on the other hand...my meal wasn't so lucky. I kept getting assurances from our guest server that my meal was coming. This was changed to my order was being remade. Then, after over an hour and change of waiting [and the headliner well into his set], my meal arrived. Everything, including the plate, was cold. It didn't even have everything on it that was described on the menu. I was irate at this point. I informed our guest server that I would not be eating this meal as it was cold and to just charge me for drink. All in all, the comedy was good. My drink, the Washington Apple, was good. My food... I will never know because it never made it to me hot. If you decide to go in the future, do yourself a favor and eat a light meal before you go and just get two drinks..[or pay the surcharge].... read more

How anyone still goes to this place is beyond me. I have a hard time understanding why people find this place enjoyable. Honestly, I have "tried hard" to like this place and out of three times the experience becomes more and more miserable. Service is a roll of the dice. First time it was average, second time was completely wack, and the third time I asked for another waitress because the first was rude, impatient and sarcastic. All three times food was either undercooked or missing something or over cooked and even just not what was ordered. The two drink minimum is understandable but not the watered down drinks. Where to freakin start?? We walk straight in sat at a table close to the exit where there needed to be more lighting (the whole place does). We came on a Sunday night to see Brandon T Jackson. There were amatuer comedians on stage so we asked our waitress if Brandon was performing. In her most ratchet voice, she asks " Who's that? I don't know." How do you work at an establishment & not know the major event? That was ridiculous. So we order simple cocktails. Why it take 47 minutes to come back with them?? Then she had no excuse as to why she took so long. After she dropped them off, she didnt show up for another hour!! Its 2 item minimum PER PERSON. So we ordered our last items and asked her to bring the check the same time since her timely service was non-existent. She forgot our drinks& happen to see us still drinkless when she was serving another table. She comes over & says how sorry she is because her coworker was suppose to bring us our drinks. We weren't dumb.SHE just forgot to bring our drinks. Smh the comedians seem to be just starting in thier "career' and not funny at all. Brandon T Jackson did perform and he was o..k.. Sitting here waiting for the show to start and astounded by the two item/$10 min. purchase. We paid for VIP tix, only to be told we also have to order the min. Also, you can't have regular water in VIP, by the way regular water is $3.50, but in VIP you have to have Voss water which is $6.50/bottle...do you know how much water I can buy for $6.50???? Anyway, the food is less than subpar. I ordered the philly cheesesteak and it is beyond DRY!!! I'm very disappointed in the foos service HORRIBLE!! I ordered the lamb chop....BIG MISTAKE!! Not a good experience at all. The rice was hard and cooked too fast the veggies were horrible as well and a very small portion of lamb chops. I asked for more rice and it came out hot and hard/rushed. I'm a cooK so I know the rice was rushed, veggies not seasoned well and a small portion of lamb chops for 14bucks. The drinks more juice than liquor. I'm over this! Money spent unwisely. The silver lining is my waitress was more than helpful and accommodating but there's only so much that she can do. That's were the 2 stars come from, she wanted to help as much as she could. Had decent time, comedians were funny.....I used to go to Uptown a few years back when it was in the small corner of a strip mall so I was glad to hear about the new location. I figured the new building would mean a better atmosphere and I was dead wrong about that! Same cramped feeling as you sit waiting forever for your food/drinks to come. I don't totally blame the servers since you maybe have 4 or 5 anyway for a place that holds maybe 200 folk when full, with of course everyone getting at least two items. I only go now to see certain comedians like this night. Got there at 7:30 for an 8:30 show but still ended up waiting for the 10:30 show due to out of control lines. Security seems to come out and hand pick certain people to get in before you in line.....still ended up pretty close, second row. At 11:45 we opted to leave. No comedian is worth waiting this long for. The building is gross and the entryway is filthy. To charge you for tickets, parking and require a 2 item minimum PLUS gratuity-- is extortion and they need to be put on blast. Horrible experience and I didn't even see the show. Please save me from myself uptown was my last hope after I REFUSE to go to Atlanta comedy theater... ok I heard on the radio that domingue somebody was going to be there so I said let me check but out ( plus the radio said $5.00 for teachers ) get there 10.00 to park I think parking should be free but ok you got your 10.00 ( not really tripping) the box office lady indicates the 5.00 fee is only for the the first show and it's selected shows. Ok my question is how would I EVER know that if the commercial does not specify. One question: WHY? We visited this club on Friday night (Honest John was the headliner) and I felt like my $100+ went to waste. The comics were great, however I don't understand the venue's policies. Compared to some of the other reviewers, I lucked out. Tips: Tickets: Visit deal sites like (Halfoffdepot.com) and save yourself some money. For example (as of today on this site) you can get 2 general admission tickets for $20 (instead of the $50 plus $8 service charge I paid) or 2 VIP tickets for $25. Parking: I guess I lucked out and saved $5 by parking on the opposite site of "Dancer's Elite". The attendant only charged me $10 to park and the walking distance to the club was very short. The food/drinks: If you truly don't want anything, it's just cheaper to pay the $10 per person. We ordered 3 drinks and some fries. The drinks were actually pretty strong. I had the Island Runner and my "beau" had 2 Cherry Limeades. They could've kept the fries! After the automatic 15% gratuity, my check was $40. This marks my first and last visit to Uptown....! read more

I've been here twice: Parking: First time, I valet parked for free but at the end of the night, the valet just gave me my keys and pointed to the direction of where my car was parked (so thank goodness I didn't pay!). Second time when I went on 6/12, to valet it was $20 so after leaving to grab more cash, I returned 10 minutes later only to discover than it went up to $30!!!! The building: The place itself (which is next door to a strip club) isn't much. Even the comedian joked that it should be condemned. Its very old and reminded me of an old American Legion. There is a 2 drink minimum and automatic gratuity as well. VIP isn't worth the price at all. All it means is that you get to sit off to the side of the stage. You will share your table with others which wasn't a big deal for me. The food isn't anything to write about and the drinks are of your typical watered down variety. The DJs: Both times, the DJ was ON POINT!! The music there is awesome! Would I go back - yes depending upon the comedian who was performing that night. Roomy place, plenty of parking but comedians weren't funny. Service was slow. Took 45 mins for food to come. 20 mins for drinks to come. I won't be returning. read more
