One question: WHY? We visited this club on Friday night (Honest John was the headliner) and I felt like my $100+ went to waste. The comics were great, however I don't understand the venue's policies. Compared to some of the other reviewers, I lucked out. Tips: Tickets: Visit deal sites like (Halfoffdepot.com) and save yourself some money. For example (as of today on this site) you can get 2 general admission tickets for $20 (instead of the $50 plus $8 service charge I paid) or 2 VIP tickets for $25. Parking: I guess I lucked out and saved $5 by parking on the opposite site of "Dancer's Elite". The attendant only charged me $10 to park and the walking distance to the club was very short. The food/drinks: If you truly don't want anything, it's just cheaper to pay the $10 per person. We ordered 3 drinks and some fries. The drinks were actually pretty strong. I had the Island Runner and my "beau" had 2 Cherry Limeades. They could've kept the fries! After the automatic 15% gratuity, my check was $40. This marks my first and last visit to Uptown....! read more

I've been here twice: Parking: First time, I valet parked for free but at the end of the night, the valet just gave me my keys and pointed to the direction of where my car was parked (so thank goodness I didn't pay!). Second time when I went on 6/12, to valet it was $20 so after leaving to grab more cash, I returned 10 minutes later only to discover than it went up to $30!!!! (Mind you - I paid $30 for my general admission tickets so why is the cost to valet the same price???). Self parking also increased from $15 to $20 as well. Seriously??? The building: The place itself (which is next door to a strip club) isn't much. Even the comedian joked that it should be condemned. Its very old and reminded me of an old American Legion. There is a 2 drink minimum and automatic gratuity as well. VIP isn't worth the price at all. All it means is that you get to sit off to the side of the stage. You will share your table with others which wasn't a big deal for me. The food isn't anything to write about and the drinks are of your typical watered down variety. The DJs: Both times, the DJ was ON POINT!! The music there is awesome! Would I go back - yes depending upon the comedian who was performing that night. This location has a nice lounge and patio seating to accommodate spring and summer nights. The main act Rob Stapleton was very good. Food was very good and priced well for a date night. All good so far.. now the bomb drops!! Can't have it all in Atlanta unfortunately (sad face) Our sweet waitress Chante H offered no consolation for flat coke or sprite.. may seem like it's no big deal but it is especially for those that do not partake in alcoholic beverages. I was very offended by the remark that every one is drinking the same drink why are you the only one with the problem. So for the entire night I felt that I was bothering her and would not request any thing else in fear that I would have spit in my soda. I had tickets for Saturday night to see Jourdain Fisher who was the headliner. It's getting late in the show...and dude never comes out. Like...was this false advertisement??? I am highly upset that I paid $40 for locals. I mean they were okay, but I wanted the act id actually paid to see. I've emailed the company and at this point I just want my money back. Went to UCC last night on an invite. It was an okay time. One of the comedians was so, so wack, but the rest of them were okay and the last act was really very funny. The place is larger than I imagined and nothing to talk about as it relates to decor. I refused to pay any damned $15 for parking, so I opted to get dropped off (I have a driver...lol!). As others have explained, there is a two item minimum or a $10 charge if you don't order anything. We both got the fried talapia dinners. I was unimpressed. I hated the seasoning (I keep hating places' seasoning). I mostly ate the fries that came with it and I let my companion eat most of my fish. Also, the food took a long time to come out. Service was okay as we were checked on and the waitress was always nearby. Of course, the place was not full...it was a rainy Tuesday night after all. It is true that the prices are wayyyy too high. Everything is about $10. I love the sound system. The music was popping and I could hear everything with crystal clarity. I have been to a comedy show where that wasn't the case, so I can appreciate that. I gave three stars because it is a comedy club and I did get some decent laughs on. It is likely that I will return to Uptown to see more of their acts and some of the big names that come through. The Best Comedy Club in The City! I have been known to cry and nearly pee on myself at this place. All the big name black comics have been here. Uptown is like a therapy for me. When I'm down in the dumps I come here and always leave feeling 10x better. Parking is like $20 which is a bit high. The food is also costly and it is not really good. I've been here a couple of times. My experience here has been inconsistent. The first time it was great. The food was great and it came quick and we had good drinks. Everything was on point. The second time we bought VIP seats. It's weird but the general admission seats have a better view of the stage than the VIP section. There was what looked like dried up barbecue sauce on my chair. The valet told us that they were backed up but that we could pay $20.00 and park ourselves in a prime parking area (never experienced such a thing). Uptown Comedy Club has good comedic talent, BUT PIS POOR SERVICE & MANAGEMENT!! It took 2 hours to receive our food order! When we refused the food due to the poor quality of service, we were told by management that charges would be filed ("thief of services"), even after we as well as the neighboring witnesses explained 2 hours is not even a close to reasonable time to receive a order of food, especially sense the 2 item minimum was met through cocktails... After being threatened with JAIL by assigned uniform cop who seemed to not understand why there is a problem, sense the food wasn't touched. If it possible to give negative stars, I most absolutely would. As much as I love to support small business, this is an establishment that I will never support again. I'll be taking my business to the Atlanta Comedy Theater in Norcross. 1. My friends signed up for free tickets by texts. Upon arrival, they were advised that the tickets weren't free and that they needed to read the fine print. Sounds like classic bait and switch deceptive marketing tactics. 2. Parking - Although I purchased VIP, tickets you would think that affords you some parking privileges or discount, but it does not. I found parking behind the gentleman's club next door for $10 but parking for the comedy club was $15 & $20. No bueno. 3. After purchasing $35 VIP ticket + service fees, patrons are required to order a 2 item minimum or pay $10 minimum. 4. 15% Gratuity is added to every bill regardless of service. This wouldn't be an issue, but when we tried to speak with a manager after paying the bill he had no care or concern for customer satisfaction, so there's no use in complaining about poor service. It falls on deaf ears. 5. The server in the VIP area advised that payment was cash only, but no where was cash only posted. Most people had cash and complied. For those, that didn't have cash he directed you to the loan shark ATM near the front door. One of my friends was waiting until the end of the show, the waiter later mentions that she can pay with a card but keep it on the low. Then we run into some other friends that sat in the regular admission section, only to find their server took a cc payment without incident. 6. VIP section - right. You get a tad bit more elbow room but it's not better. The view from the side isn't better and the sound quality isn't geared for the seating. It's a gimmick. 7. Bathroom attendant...so I'm all for a good honest hustle, but c'mon. You trying to get a tip for using the regular soap, water, and paper towels. Between parking, food+drink, and admission, I believe I've earned the right to wash my hands in peace. 8. Drinks - I ordered the Georgia Peach Tea which was like a Long Island. I felt a buzz, but for 2 drinks I'm writing this review more sober than I'd prefer to be at this and perhaps foregoing this task for a later date. They don't have a complete full bar, but they should have something for everyone. The upside....see if you can find the misspelled words on the memu. I've practically been patronizing this place on and off for 20 years....well no more. I'll wait for comedians to offer shows at mixed venues or the Atlanta Comedy Theater in Norcross. We went and saw Bill Bellamy, we read the reviews AFTER purchasing the tickets. Not many good reviews at all, so we were very skeptical and expected not a good experience. This is what I sent to Uptown after my experience: To whom it may concern, I am writing this letter to explain why I will never come back to Uptown Comedy Corner again. My experience there was to not favorable at all. My husband who was very excited about winning some 20 guest tickets invited all of our friends to come out and hang out at the club he use to love so much. So we attended the 10:00pm show on 6/17/2010, with about 15 of our friends of our close friends. As we sat down the wait staff came and greeted us, up until this point everything was fine. Once the show started some of us order food some waited and ordered drinks. The headliner was not even introduced when; we were ran out of our table, (the u-shaped table) by very large cock roaches. (The VIP Area) There were flying around us, yeah it was a couple of them. So we moved to some chair and tables that was located right in front of the tables. Some of my guest lost their drinks and was informed the had to buy something else, and I was harassed by wait staff about ordering something else other than my drink, some of our guest left their food at the table we were originally at. I am sure you would not want to eat after seeing cock roaches flying around your food. After all of this, and the harassment of the wait staff to purchase another item after this all happen. NOT ONE PERSON FROM MANAGEMENT, OR STAFF CAME OVER AND APOLOGIZED ABOUT OUR SITUATION. I understand about making that money but you do that by giving the best customer service that you possibly can. Then when my husband asked to speak to the manager, he got the run around about the owner having to much to do right now (counting money, etc) (yeah they actually said counting money) he was even given the number to call back the next day. They charge $ 20.00 for parking, there is a two drink minimum, if you order food water is not served, the food is nasty, the wine is cheap and over priced. Uptown Comedy Club hailed to be one of the best comedy clubs in the South. I have been to Uptown twice. I went on a Sunday night. There were not many people there and no headliner comedians that night. It was easy to park and I did not have to wait outside to get in. I enjoyed myself, even though some of the comedians were horrible. The only complaint I have is the show started thirty minutes late, but I expected this. Then I went on a Friday night and this place was totally different from Sunday night. There was a headliner comedian there and a lot more people. I stood in line for about thirty minutes, the weather was cooperative so I was okay. Now, I may be a little biased because my best friend won tickets off the radio so I think the fact that I did not have to pay made me brush off things I normally would bitch about. I am glad that we did not sit in VIP. The VIP seating area is to the left of the stage, meaning you are looking at the side of the comedian during the show. But I guess if there were celebrities there you could be up close and personal. I have heard celebrities frequent the place, but I did not see any. I did not laugh as much at the headliner, partially because everybody in the place was talking and I could not hear everything. The food was okay. Now here is the ghetto part, Wanda from V103 was hosting and also giving away a flat screen tv. In order to get this flat screen tv they held a raffle and if your ticket number was called, you were to get on stage and do karaoke to the song of the dj's choice. This poor woman got on stage and had to do the Jennifer Hudson "I'm telling you". She sounded horrible, so horrible in fact people started throwing things off their table at her. But a man in VIP took it too far, he threw a glass that broke directly at her. Luckily she was not hurt. They immediately threw that man and his friends out of the club and Wanda personally gave the woman $100. Hopefully she doesn't sue. Why can't we just go out and have fun, some of us have to take it to the next level. I went to the Uptown Comedy Club on 8-25-10 with two visiting guests. I had the highest expectations since the comedian that was there is someone that I know, so I was excited. We got there and I paid ten dollars to park, and thirty six dollars for the 3 of us to get in. We get to the table where we were met by a nightmare of a waitress and a sign that advised we had to purchase 2 drinks per person. We ordered dinner and sat through about 2 hours of opening acts before they got to the headliner Tony Roberts. Then right before he was to come out they announced that Tony Roberts wouldnt be there. So, they held us hostage to see Tony and then Tony wasnt there. When i asked the waitress from hell about this she snapped on me and said we have know all day he wasnt coming. She brought us our tab which by the way was $62 dollars and there was a line that said "Srv Charge" when I asked what that was she barked at me and said "ITS THE TIP" i asked why are we being charged a service charge for three people, she said "THATS THE WAY WE DO IT HERE". I politely crossed it out and said first of all i normally give 20% tip but since you are so nasty you will get nothing. I asked for the manager and was told there wasnt a manager on duty this late i could call back. I did write and call the location directly but they chose not to reply so I thought it was only fair to let everyone know the kind of service you will get when you go there and from the reviews I see its not just me that felt that the whole experience was awful. but they are consistant the ENTIRE EXPERIENCE IS AWFUL...from the door staff that make you feel like you have an AK-47 in your pants to the angry waitstaff...they are consistant. I like a good laugh now and then but not at the cost of $120 for a show that was advertised as headliner Tony Roberts and i got some loud cussing brother that wasnt that funny. This review is based on the comedy club itself and not the comedians. If you want to waste $70 for a few chuckles, bad food, and parking, make it an Uptown Comedy Club night. Like 90% of places in Atlanta, there is no free parking near the club. It's $15 for valet, but there are also a few places down the street that charge $10. You may be lucky enough to find a parking spot on the street for free, but every time I've found an empty street space in Atlanta, there's always been somebody waiting for me to get out of my car so they can beg me for a couple of bucks. How do I get into the parking spot business? That must be the best way to become a millionaire in Atlanta. Anyway, be aware that there is a two item minimum once you're inside the club. There is no such thing as free water. You have to buy $6 designer water. There are a few food items on the menu and a few drinks. My drink tasted like it had been sitting in a fridge for a week soaking up the tastes of other foods. They probably need to put a box of baking soda in their fridge. I'm not sure how you get free tickets, but I paid for my ticket....$40 for VIP to be exact. What a joke, VIP gets you nothing at all...don't expect better chairs, a free drink, or better service. Finally, the location is in an industrial-like building. You can see all the air conditioning ducts. For a building like this, they can't be paying that much rent. Where to Park? The comedy club is located next to a strip club, not exactly an area known for folks who are looking to pinch pennies. Parking might be somewhat reasonable, it might be high. If you come to the early show, you might want to risk it by parking on the street. When to Arrive? We went to the late show in the winter season, it really sucked. You have to take your ticketmaster looking ticket to the window and turn it in for a receipt paper and some raffle tickets. When we went in the winter, they suggested that we return to our cars since it was so cold, come back when we saw the folks from the early show come out. Uhh... well, um... thanks. But, it would be awesome if you guys had some sort of covering for your waiting patrons to come in instead. We came back when it was warmer outside and it was far less hassle. What to Expect? If they have a business plan, I am certain that customer service, unique experience, focus on developing the client into a trusted, lifelong frequent visitor can not be a part of their goals. You walk in & hand over your raffle ticket to a 'hostess' who points you somewhat into the direction of your tabe. You sit down in the pitch black and a server comes to your table to take your 2 item minimum order. Now, we were just here a few months ago, but the menu was completely different from last time. I decided to go for the chicken & waffles for some reason unbeknownst to me. Hubs decided to get spinach dip. We both asked for Sprite to drink. The drinks came back stat...watered down Sprite. The food came back shockingly fast. After 1 minute, I realized why. The food is already fixed, just sititng back there waiting on someone who is silly enough to orderr it. The chicken was soggy and a little cold. The waffle was cold and crunchy - they had apparently prepared it before and heated it up in the microwave for too long. The spinach dip was disgusting & a ridiculously small serving size. Weird Cold Temps. Initially, I was concerned that I did not have a jacket, but was pretty comfortable, so I did not sweat it. But, about 3 comics in, just as they were doing the intro for one of the comics, this BURST of air came out of the exposed air vents. Initially, we thought it was part of a joke with his entrance, but came to realize that this air was not going to be cut off. Apparently, table 32 is in the direct spot where it feels the wrath of the air duct from overhead from behind AND to the right, so we froze. And, when I say BURST - there was a stack of napkins, menus, table marker, and a cup that all blew off of our table when the air turned on. We mentioned the forced air to our waiter when he came with our bill, he said that there was nothing to be done about it. But, the air blew so hard, we had to find something in our pockets to physically hold down the receipt paper for the bill. Had I been holding it, I would have allowed it to blow away, then allow him the fun of chasing it down in the room. Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze? I will never, ever, never pay for tickets to go to this place. Why? The tix are free, but it is quite pricey to go to this establishment. They decided with the costs of parking and food that they prefer to receive payment in those line items, paying at the door is not an option. If I were to return, I am officialy giving up on the food. I will simply ask for 2 sips of soda instead of one with the less than mediocre food. read more

Went here last night with a group to see Michael Blackson. It is right next to a strip club. Parking is easy. There is only one person at will call booth so be prepared to wait. Once inside, we got a table with no problem. We ordered appetizers and drinks. Drinks were well made but mainly just ice served in cheap plastic cups. Fries were also just barely warm and some soggy. There is a $10 minimum spend. I asked for a 2nd drink but server never brought it out. I would not come back here unless a comedian I really want to see is performing. But I would really think hard about it. Also note that the DJ repeatedly tells the audience to tip your server even though they automatically add a 15% fee to your check. Not cool. This place took me completely by surprise! My daughter selected this venue based on the headliner listed to perform that night. Upon arrival, it was a bit unnerving to see that the parking attendant wore a holstered gun. Then again, this is Georgia! Relax and have no fear- you WILL be entertained, the comics prior to the headliner were FANTASTIC! The headliner, eh ... He had his moments. What threw me off at the start was the entry way/front of building. They're doing a great disservice to the performers and the establishment itself by not giving the place some curb appeal. From the outside, nothing entices you to come inside. While my daughters boyfriend bought the tickets, I said to my daughter "I'd better laugh"... This is how depressed it looked.It cost $10 to park each car and $15 per person for tickets with the traditional 2 drink minimum.Once inside, we chose our seats nearby the stage (we were early); the DJ played music to fit the crowd (many do NOT do this or even know how to comprehend such a feat). While the waitress took a bit longer than i was comfortable with to get to our table initially, once she arrived, from there she was attentive and quick...we were a thirsty bunch! As for the comics, we each had a favorite- we all had such a good time! I've visited all the comedy clubs in Manhattan- some in LA, CT and DC, this place should be packed, especially on a Saturday night! I had never been to Uptown, or any comedy club/restaurant for that matter, but wanted to see Mario Joyner badly. I convinced my sister and brother-in-law to accompany me and I anted up the $30 pp cover for VIP. Little did I know the restaurant was so small that every seat was good and "VIP" only meant you sat somewhat elevated (whattha?). Anyway...once we were seated, the waiter appeared expeditiously, handed us menus and (having paid $90 thus far) we were blindsided by a "two item" minimum. After recovering from this blow to the head, I figured a drink and bite would satisfy this requirement and we began negotiations with the waiter. I ordered a drink (I don't drink so this was a little task) and then inquired about the beef sliders. With a quick glance around the room and a hushed tone he strictly forbade me from ordering them (wow, thanks for the save) and then equally cautioned about the chicken sliders as well. At that point I veered in the opposite direction and ordered the fish tacos. He gave me his approval, took my family's order and disappeared into the back. The food came out quick (hmmm.....too quick). The plate of tacos and fries he sat before me looked like something that had seen better days. I reluctantly took a bite of a fish taco and confirmed my fears - tasteless, mushy and warm at best. The fries were just as inviting - hard, cold and somewhat cardboard like. I left this entire dish to stale for the remainder of my stay in fulfillment of my obligation. All-in-all, we spent another $125.00 for not good food and drinks - bringing our night's tally to just over $200.00. I am happy I saw Mario Joyner; however, the dreaded thought of being coerced into that dining nightmare again would leave me ordering Chinese and flipping the channels in search of laughs a lot less costly. Supposedly, Sundays are when you can most expect celebrity sightings. The two times I went, I sat in the "regular crowd" and not VIP so I didn't get to hob-nob. I was fine with that since I wasn't looking to pay the extra $20 to sit next to a celebrity's mistress or to find a new baby daddy anyway lol. The regular crowd has the best seats since you look at the comedian head on while the VIP section only has a side view. You can expect to pay $10 to park in the parking lot next door or out back & $12-20 at the door on Sundays and then you are still required to buy a minimum of two drinks (or get charged $5). The food wasn't anything to write about. I would suggest eating before you get there. The seating is first come first served and the DJ (DJ Voodoo) kept the crowd entertained until the show started (which always starts late) by offering everyone a free shot on stage and by allowing us to listen to his raunchy and funny music selection. They have great comedians. The ones that I saw were local. The host announced venues that the comedians had been on (BET comic view etc) but I didn't recognize any faces. My favorite comedian was a man with the first name Karlous (who they say is on BET's Hell Date). He made me laugh until I cried. I wish I could see him perform again. Well they get 1 star from me for the simple fact that we wanted to see Joe Torrey tonight (he's on their schedule) and their phone number is disconnected as of today. Reading prior reviews I just don't want to spend the money for a show that may not take place then have to argue to get my money back. Prior to today I have left 2 messages and never got a return call and I had a simple question about seating prices. Hell they seem too shady for me, guess I'll go to Club Sugarbush! I've been going to Uptown since the late 90s. Comedy is always top notch. The comedians never disappoint. I always go and take groups. The food has always been bad. Just a missed opportunity to serve quality food and make it a true destination. I'd love to be able to go and eat and enjoy a show. However w fried tasteless nothing special menu, we are forced to eat before we go and just do the minimum required. Plus, I've never seen roaches as big as I've seen at Uptown. So I stopped eating there years ago. But the comedy kept me coming back. However, I vowed a few mths ago to never return. But on my last visit the place smelled like sewage. Very people were in attendance (probably due to the buildings state). I should have known something has changed bc there was no line to get in. We left after 5 mins. It was intolerable. read more

Me and my girls went to this establishment to kick back, relax, and have a good time. There were some IG comedians in town that we wanted to check out. We pull into the lot (that they own) and parking is $15 to park your own car IN THE BACK, IN GRAVEL. Parking is $30 if you'd like a short distance to walk. I'm immediately taken aback BUT I'm like cool, let's just get in here and hopefully enjoy the show. We make it in the lounge and it is EXTREMELY HOT! The waitress gives us menus and we look over them. There is a 2 item minimum purchase that must be made or you will be forced to pay a $10 service fee. I felt as though that was completely absurd. Oh! And there is a mandatory 15% gratuity added to all checks. They will not give you a glass of water. You have to pay $3.50 for a bottle. The service is TERRIBLE! After we ordered, she didn't check back to see if we wanted anything else. They all know they have their guaranteed tip so they are clearly not giving the guests any type of attention. We literally waited well over 45mins for green beans, spinach, and French fries. I hate when places nickel and dime you behind the scenes. I love the shows at this club. They always seem to schedule big names. I HATE the customer service of the waitresses. The manager is pretty patient if you have an issue but, the waitresses seem to take advantage of the fact that the 15% gratuity is included automatically in the bill. There is a 2 item minimum or a $10 surcharge per person. Also, the building is far from fancy and lacks decor. Gary Owens went in on the building at the March 2nd show [hilarious]. read more

This venue is pretty inexpensive and has a lot of good comedians perform here. However, it's very cramped and they seat you very closely and uncomfortably. The furniture is worn down and needs to be replaced and the food is mediocre. Service is mediocre as well. They are lucky good comedians keep playing there! read more

This could be a hit or a miss. With a big headliner, know that you will stand in line. Don`t pay for tickets, find out how you can get them for free.... Normally at a festival or a friend of a friend. LOL I hate the parking, that it is next to a strip club and the 2 item minimum. DONT GET THE FOOD! While I have never had a bad experience, I was just never satisfied. Its that feeling you get when you feel that you wasted money. The drinks are decent. Look it's simple, this is a comedy club, not a restaurant. I've been here a handful of times and although each time was different I still enjoyed myself. Overall the food and service were pretty decent and as for the comedy, really that depends on the line up. Oh and be prepared to wait in line because unless u lucked up to attend the first show of the evening, you will be waiting until they clear the first crowd out and you can guess how slow some people can move once they've already gotten comfortable read more
