Worst customer service. The ladies at the counter did not make us feel welcomed at all. Definitely not welcoming for diverse customers. The welcome was the worst. No offer to heat up our pastries and the cashier eith the blue hair was horrible and clearly did not enjoy serving us. We only went there because our favorite place Snapdragon Bakery was closed. The cost of the pastries at Uptown was ridiculous for the tiny portion. Snap dragons pastries are 4 times the size and much better quality. The service there is impeccable. I really wanted to write this review as a warning so others do not experience the same. Take your business elsewhere. Bakery Nouveau is around the corner with amazing welcoming service. Snapdragon a few blocks away. I have lived in WS for decades and never received such poor service. Best cup of coffee in West Seattle, and easily one of the best in the entire city. The only place I will order a mocha anymore, it's just better here than anywhere else. That being said, the new prices are tough to swallow. Went in yesterday and after tip it was $24.99 for 2 coffees. I would've walked out after they told me the total, but they'd already started making it so what are you gonna do. Totally understand if that's the price required for the business to be successful and to pay staff a living wage. But it's definitely priced me out of being a customer. read more

Home of the velvet foam? I don't think so, lol. Former barista here - the beans are burnt, there is zero crema in the foam, and it's certainly not "microfoam" which is the velvety texture you want in a real cappuccino. They just dumped foam into espresso. I've been here several times and it's always the same. Decent work/read/chill space but C&P is superior and the coffee and food is a hard pass for me - train your baristas better. read more

Baristas were rude to customers and while ordering in line (no one was behind me) I was talking with a friend trying to decide what I wanted to drink. TLDR; hair in coffee, barista is proudly rude to customers Jonah who self-identified as a manager harassed us to order faster when there was no one in line behind us. When he did make my mocha, it was half foam (not okay for an $8 medium drink- this shop should know the difference between a mocha and a cappuccino), and he dipped his finger in it (accidentally, but didn't acknowledge it) as he handed it to me. The foam was spilling over the edges and I had to clean it up myself. I was going to let the issue go until I noticed two small hairs inside my coffee cup. When I brought this to his attention he didn't apologize and acted annoyed. The female barista was sweet about it and remade the drink, but for the pushy service, lack of basic drink knowledge, and gross health code violations, I won't be back. For context, this review is related to another review by my friend, in which Jonah proceeded to proudly and loudly kick our group out. We were 7 people sitting at 2 4 person tables, all having ordered drinks and some had food, and he told us we were taking up too much space and it was "his decision that our time there was up". We're a respectful group that has all worked in food service for years in the past, and half of us spent years as baristas. I spent eight years myself waiting tables, bartending, and running a coffee shop, and couldn't imagine treating customers the way we did, not to mention causing a scene kicking a group out of a cafe. TLDR: blatantly rude service, awful experience with one of the staff members I came in with 6 friends on the weekend to play board games for one of our birthdays. We were there for 2-3 hours, and had purchased a drink for all of us at the start. Some ordered food. From the get go, one of the employees (Jonah, who said he was the manager) had a tone while we were ordering drinks and made some rude comments because we were briefly distracted talking to eachother. After some time, Jonah came over and said we were taking up too many seats/tables (we had moved two four top tables together) and asked if we could free up a table. One at our group politely agreed, yet he continued on, incorrectly asserting that only half of us ordered drinks/food and that the establishment is "not here for birthdays" and said something about not wanting us to play board games there. We were shocked given that we had all made a purchase, there were board games available at the establishment for this purpose, and that he continued to drag out his point after we had already agreed to his request, but still we complied. Shortly after we moved our stuff to one table, he returned to say "I don't think I made myself clear, you need to leave" and when we tried to reason he said "i don't want to talk about it, I'm kicking you out" and before he walked away said "oh, and happy birthday." His tone was harsh, and felt intentionally disrespectful. We tried to pull him aside to get clarification on his reasoning, and let him know his tone was inappropriate, and he responded with "yeah, I'll work on that, but I'm not interested in having this conversation." My group is polite, and we would have been so happy to comply with any request (moving tables, quieting down, or even leaving) if they would have approached this request kindly or with any level of respect, but this was a shockingly awful experience. I'm surprised this person has a job in customer service. We won't be back. read more

Uptown Espresso is amazing. I came here after doing some field work for a project of mine on the West Seattle Bridge which was prime time to be captivated by this place. They even had an artistic rendition of the Spokane Street Bridge way back when. Something that makes me smile big. There was one worker that I could see while I was there, he was friendly with all of the customers that he interacted with while I was there including me. I was looking for some morning caffeine and a something to eat. I first spotted the bagels on display then noticed a tray higher up in the display case and saw a few massive cookies. One looked like a ginger cookie, so I read the food items menu and sure enough they had ginger molasses cookies. So that was it, I was getting the ginger molasses cookie. I also chose to go with the double tall drip coffee. Prices were not posted for the food items, so the worker double checked that I wanted to purchase the cookie as it was $6. Heck yes! I love me ginger cookies, and ginger molasses are the best because they are thick and chewy and this one had big sugar sprinkles on it that would add a slight crunchy texture. So I got both and enjoyed them as I made my way home. Both the cookie and the coffee were delicious. This may be premature, but the ginger molasses cookie is the best ginger molasses cookie I have had. The coffee was smooth and not bitter. I saved a portion of both the cookie and the coffee for my parents to try when I got back home and they liked them both as well. Bold choice to go with carpet for a bakery and cafe, and I loved it. Uptown Espresso is a neat coffee shop in the Alaska Junction. I love coming here because they have their own parking lot! I usually order a cappuccino, but they have other espresso drinks, cold brew, tea, and hot chocolate. They also have a lot of food options: baked goods (muffins, scones, pastries) as well as breakfast sandwiches and wraps. Sometimes I come here because I need to use the free wifi. It is a very comfortable place with tons of tables and chairs. The other customers always seem pretty chill and quiet. I usually only see one barista here, so you might have to wait a bit if there is a long line, but generally that isn't a problem. read more

Uptown Espresso is a Seattle original, but I really appreciate their interior updates at the Junction location, which makes it an even more pleasant place to spend a few hours working on your computer or catching up with a friend. New floors replaced the old carpet, seating is well spaced and there is a cool coffee roasting machine that is the centerpiece for a bar seating. The quality of drinks is high here, and features Fonte coffee. Plenty of baked goods and lunch items to prolong your stay, and the staff is always friendly and efficient. There are a lot of coffeehouses in this area, and UE is a standout for its sum of the parts. read more

Very relaxing and rather old school, I really did enjoy visiting this place or grabbing a cup to go down to Alki. I was prepared to spend hours here (and more money) while I was waiting for my car to be repaired across the street. After 15 minutes I threw in the towel and walked down the street to Starbucks. I'd prefer to support local coffee shops over corporate, but until this place upgrades its wifi, there's no going back for me. Then the sandwich was kind of a nightmare. They pull out the sandwich out of the freezer and pop it into one of those super ovens. I get it served but it's still cold on the inside. Please don't serve food like this. Don't have a menu with nice photos just for it to be frozen. If you can't make a sandwich fresh , don't sell it. The Caffe Viennese tasted a bit like pencil shavings, unfortunately- I did get it with a milk substitute, so perhaps that's what did it. I give it two stars because at least the ambience is nice. The barista answered questions about the coffee I asked her, but could definitely tell she didn't really want to be here. Furthermore, really sucks that milk substitutes are a whole dollar more. If the coffee tasted great, I could justify that price point. I definitely wouldn't go here if you're a lactose intolerant college student like myself. If you're a hipster Seattlelite that doesn't mind overpaying for mediocre coffee for a nice view of 7/11, this is the place for you! :) read more

This isn't a bad spot! I've been here several times both by myself and with friends and haven't ever had a particularly bad experience, just an un-notable one. One visit I was sold a pastry that was a bit broken up, and I hadn't even complained about it but the manager on duty comped the entire thing and gave it to me for free which is the only experience I've had here that's stood out. That was great customer service and I appreciated it! I'm here during the warmer months because the lavender syrup they carry is the bomb.com but I have to be honest, the whole vibe of the place is a bit standoffish. They have a large open area with barely any decor, old wooden tables, drab lighting and a fugly green carpet. Even when there's barely anyone in the shop, the baristas don't have much to say to you- when I've attempted to strike up a conversation a few times I've gotten little to no response, which annoys me as someone who works in coffee too.
