What a fabulous football Sunday surprise. Checked out the New Uptown Bar & Lounge for Football Sunday. Haven't been here since the closing and changes. What a great place for football. A little slow start as we were outside the door at 10 am but we were received with a welcome smile and great friendly service. Happy to find out they now have a food pop up ( Geezy's Backyard Barbecue) with breakfast burritos and barbecue lunch plate. See pictures and you will agree. So give Football Sunday a try. Was there to see The Bomb play on the 4th. Good music acoustics that allowed for crisp, clear sound without overwhelming loudness. The dance floor is spacious for a small to medium crowd. Marcos was bartending and seemed to be distant to the customer experience and a bit tight on suggestions and comments. His other staff members were a bit more attentive. Bottom line: This is a really cool, hidden little spot I dont know that it's fair to say that this is a hidden spot but frankly, it kind of is! I have lived in SB most of my life and I wasnt aware of The Uptown until recently which is of course my fault for not getting out there an exploring a bit more. My failings aside, I liked this place. There are a ton of comfortable places to sit, watching, TV, eat, chat drink. Its modern and the bathroom was clean. There is also a small patio in the back which looked cool. I was there for open mic night, had a few beers and a pizza - had a good time. The pizza was on the thinner of crust part of the spectrum - but good. I'm not crazy about thin crust but I liked it - my wife loved it. This spot is absolutely worth checking out! Dont forget they do open mic nights on Tuesdays after 630! read more

The place is super loud, which I don't mind, it's a bar... they have karaoke... football on the TVs, etc. one of the cool things I noticed at the bar was their tap system, which fills beer glasses from the bottom of the glass, thus minimizing the foam... fun to watch. read more

They are open again and looking nice! Good late night food, especially since lots of places closed by 9pm for food. The front has some nice privacy with the metal - see pics. Didn't check the back but maybe next time! The interior was spacious and lots of tv screens so if your game is on, can root for your teams. This place seems like a good place to chill and have some drinks or three. We ordered the street dog, burger and fries, tri tip tacos and tri tip quesadillas, and classic uptown wings. The classic uptown wings tasted like franks buffalo sauce, which has a nice buttery flavor to the buffalo wings. The wings also came with celery and carrots. The ranch is on the slightly tangy side which I'm not a fan of, I prefer blue cheese. The burger was nice and delicious with a good amount of lettuce and tomatoes. The fries that come with the burger are the steak fries. The tri tip quesadilla and tacos are good. Maybe when COVID is over I'll come by to eat and drink here. read more

This bar is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots on State Street. For the past few months I've been stopping here briefly when I'm in the neighborhood, but it's growing on me and I find myself staying late. The pool tables are free, the seating is posh, outdoor area is wonderful. Bartenders are always super professional, even when the place gets crazy and loud. One girl who works Thursdays has this magical way of getting everyone at the bar talking to each other and laughing. I swear I made half a dozen friends in one night. Wish I could stay out on weeknights more often. I've seen it mentioned that the music is too quiet lately, but I like music in a lounge-style bar to be more soulful and conducive to socializing. Not so loud that you can't have a conversation while seated at the bar. So to me, the recent change is refreshing and welcome. Part of having hand-picked music instead of a jukebox is you're not always going to have the same taste as your DJ! Personally I would rather listen to something fresh that isn't quite up my alley, than radio classics I've heard hundreds of times. read more

Once we're out of this garbage, get on over to the Uptown. Such a great atmosphere and crowd. It's not a hidden gem for locals, but also not many people are just going to wander in, resulting in a friendly, fun-loving crowd. The bartenders are awesome, they have delicious food items, and they have pool tables that aren't nearly as crowded as those downtown. The back patio is also very nice when the weather is warm. For now they are doing there best and deserve your support. Locally owned, it's one of the best bars in town and a great place to watch all the big games. Definitely a great spot. read more

Ok. I'll tell you what I like about here. They have a Great Happy Hour! I don't know if most people are aware of the food here. Great Pizza since they have a great big pizza oven outside. $2 tri-tip tacos with super sauce and wings that are really tasty! Service is good with Oscar tending bar and Christina taking care of tables. Pool tables Are a buck which is high but new felt so it's all good. On Monday they have trivia, pretty tough but it makes my brain move so that's good. We come over 3-4 times a month, fun spot that has live music on the weekends and overall is a fun spot! read more

Tip: Bring cash if you're paying at the door. It makes things much easier! This event happens every Wednesday from 5:30-8pm. I recommend getting here early to find a good parking spot and seating on the patio. On my visit (7.27.16) distributors were pouring wine from Broadside located in Paso Robles. Chardonnay, Margarita Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, and Margarita Vineyard Merlot were all good! I've been to Uptown plenty of times with my co-workers after a long hard day at work and I can honestly say this place has been good to me! Food is great and I especially love the sweet potato fries. These are perfectly cooked and the best I have tried in town. Pizza is also delicious cooked in the wood burning oven. Tacos are great as well and they have a decent happy hour. Call ahead of time and reserve a spot if you have a big group. It's FREE! Viva La Fiesta Tip: In honor of Fiesta's on 8.3.16 instead of wine they will hold a tequila tasting. I came to this bar after my shift a few minutes before 3:00 and didn't expect the doors to be open already. I walked in and re-met a very friendly, charming and professional bartender named Jade whom I've recognized from a previous bar that she worked at. I'm excited that she's working at Uptown! When I last got a drink from her at the other place where Jade worked, she was kicking ass! Getting to every customer, making people feel good, working with a sense of urgency, maintaining the bar and engaging all of us in interesting conversation (and let me tell you, she will have you laughing and sticking around a while.) My boyfriend and I wanted to try something new on a night off and Uptown was the worst place to go. Upon entry we were met with unwelcoming stares. The lounge was completely empty but the bar was PACKED. You had to squeeze through to get an order in and the blonde bartender was not very attentive nor kind. I ordered a drink and it came in a glass with the largest crack I've seen!! Unacceptable! The food was also very mediocre. Please find a better place when going out. read more

While polite, the ammonia smell was dismissed when asked and also surprise! There's a 35 dollar holding amount on pen tabs ( mine was 6 dollars at the end) that holds for 2 to 3 days. Something you'd think should be explained at the start of opening a tab. Especially if it's not busy. When called and asked about this mysterious 35 dollar charge it was met with a question of "the bartender didn't tell you about it? " Remembering my last visit to this place recalling there was no explication of 35 dollars being held. Further explication of why there is a 35 dollar hold was said "if someone can't pay their tab or leave before paying, blah blah blah." I stopped caring. Was recommended to pay and close as I go or bring cash when drinking there. Unfortunately I will not be returning. Uptown is a GREAT space! Good bar, nicely done with a great patio. Not just a bar either, they have food which is a huge plus!! There are a lot of TVs so in a town where watching multiple sporting events at once limits your choices to only a few places Uptown fits the bill. The staff is great! At least what there is of it. More often than not they have a single bartender and one person running around delivering food. I have been there on several occasions when that was just not sufficient. Might work on a sleepy Tuesday but not during a Dodgers Playoff game or a World Series. The food is good but a little expensive for what it is. read more

I love up town! Pool tables, live music and popcorn, I'm there! It's the local vibe which is a nice change from the bar scene DT. The space is open and they do serve bar food until...about 1030, at least when I was there. The crowd was lively and diverse! Lots of dancers on the floor! Cocktails were great and so was the service in the lounge area! I love it when ordering at the bar in NOT your only option, so I really appreciate the cocktail waitress coming over to tables. Good bat worth solid drink choices. We were going to rat at Kimchi and had a 45 minute wait and came here for beers. Good choice of local beer. After the Korean BBQ came in for mezcal.
