Went here on a Tuesday night, had the taco special for 5.99 and a whole lot of 3.50 Margaritas. The tacos were actually pretty good, I had steak and my boyfriend had the ground beef. Drinks were great and strong!! The decor isnt great here, nothing fancy but service was good. We had a pregnant waitress who was really nice and on top of it. She had to have been at least 7 months but checked on us often. I would visit again. read more

My husband and I went into this establishment for a date night out and were simply ignored. We stood in the doorway for a few minutes. Then we moved in further. We stood in the doorway between the doorway and the bar. A waitress passed by us a few times. A couple of bus boys looked at us. We finally left. It was so awkward. Not a very friendly place. Our waitress was very short with us & just not friendly at all. Basically she had zero customer service. It was my husband & I 1st time here & I told her that & it seemed like she still didn't even care. My husband and I had 1 drink each, ordered food & before we even got our food, decided that we wouldn't get a 2nd drink & that we would just eat our food & go have a drink at Moe Joe's or Tap house!!!! Do not spend any money here. They hire thieves! Daniella was our waitress and she pocketed $20 cash we used to pay part of our bill. When we confronted her she acted like she didn't know how to do basic math (addition/subtraction) or knew what we were talking about. It's now three days later and the credit cards that my friends and I used to pay the remainder of our bill with were all charged for twice as much as we signed for! Luckily we kept our "customer copy". But, when two of us called the manger, Ray, and the owner, Steve, it was "definitely an honest mistake" and "having trouble with their payment system" and due to her "Quick fingers" on the screen!! All a bunch of b.s. Save yourself the trouble of having your money stolen and some ridiculous excuse to make up for it. I work in downtown and i needed to get a lunch so i decided to try this place out. I got the hamburger on a regular bun and i got sweet potato fries. I typically NEVER eat sweet potatoes but the fries were so delicious!! Another time i got the hamburger on a pretzel bun and onion rings. The pretzel bun was too small for the meat but the onion rings made up for it. Customer service is perfect and i will definitely come back. read more

I might be a little bias on my review but I just love this place. I travel far to come hangout at this place b/c the staff are awesome (once they get to know you). The food is the typical bar food but I am a little bum that they took away my favorite dipping sauce for my chicken fingers. The drinks are your standard drinks. Been here a few times and never had issues, which ended tonight. We had a twenty month old baby with us and there were no high chairs where the safety straps worked. We ordered 3 pizzas and 2 were incorrect. The service seemed slow and inattentive. I told the manager and she was quick to blame our server on the wrong pizzas. Really? Who's running the place? Decided to go here randomly on a Friday night. Surprisingly, there wasn't a wait. We requested seating in the patio. Our server was okay, not the best. Wasn't super personable. Our order consisted of the Philly chicken sandwich, chicken nachos, one Angry Orchard, and a Cider Boys peach cider (with a glass). Our drinks came out and upon pouring my peach cider in my glass, I noticed lip stick marks from someone who've used it previously (see photo). Food was served from a random employee, not our actual server. Silverware was not provided at the table and we forgot to ask for it when are food came out. We waited about 5-7 minutes hoping our server would come to see how everything looked and if we needed anything else. Nope. We then went inside and retrieved our own silverware. Food was 6/10. Basic pub food. Nothing special. Overall, not the best experience. Two stars because of the lipstick mark on the glass. read more

I have only been here a couple of times. The first time was years ago, and it was a decent place to hangout for a birthday celebration... fast forward to December 20th of this year. Another birthday celebration... although it is still a decent place, the bartender was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. She ignored everyone whenever we walked up to the bar for a drink. She was usually too busy talking to people at the bar about her personal life. F*** seemed to be her favorite word. I just visited Uptown Tap for about 2 hours. I was there a week ago on Tuesday with my daughter that just graduated from College on Cruise night. The girl bartender never seemed to care whether or not she made her patrons feel comfortable. She was cold & Kalos the whole time ,so I chalked it up as her having a bad night. I went there tonight after work around 6 to have a couple beers & maybe a sandwich. I saw a few older people who grew up in this town , had a few beers &. then one of them left & another youngergetleman sat down next to me & sat there for probably about 7 - 10 minutes before being served. No biggie ,the bar was about half way packed so I thought they will eventually get to him but the gentleman next to him , who is a regular for probably 40 years said very politely, hey I think this man needs a drink. The bartender got very short & rude & then proceeded to tell him she has had with my end of the bar. I never said a word to her in the total couple hours I was there except to say yes I would like to have a beer & thank you. it & then let's the gentleman ordering the drink know that she's done with this end of the bar on a couple times. I asked the other bartender why she said that when there was only the 3 of us &. I don't know the guy to left & the gentleman to my right I see about once a year & he is always polite & he even apologized to the other bartender that he didn't mean to step on any toes. Wasn't good enough. I have been going there for 30 years about 6 or 7 times a year & Ive seen this bartender act rude to other patrons but now I know it was probably not the patrons . The service has gone down the tubes . Just think ,it's the evening & twice I've seen this attitude in the last 2 weeks. read more

Very cool vibe, but unfortunately not good service or food. Burgers were very greasy and not cooked well. They definitely need more staff on Thursday nights not enough servers for how busy it gets. They need a hostess a lot of customers standing around not knowing to seat themselves (no sign telling to do so, that would probably help). Went with my wife and three kids for dinner. Food is probably very good. Unfortunately they only had one server for approximately 20 tables. She was great though. We started with quesadillas and pretzels bites. Both were very good. Then we ordered three burgers, cheese pizza, and a chicken wrap. Long wait for the food. My burger came uncooked and still cold. Everything else was cooked well. When my burger came back after the second try it was on new plate without the fries or other sides. They ran out! The bill came in at $76 for basic restaurant staples. Portions were not gourmet either. I will try them again. Maybe just an off night. read more

Running errands with my boyfriend on a beautiful day and thought we would stop in downtown Plainfield on a patio for a few dollar beers. First choice was mojoes but we wanted to sit outside and their patio was packed. Uptown, next door looked dead outside so we decided to go over there for the dollar domestic special. Didnt see a server so just went to the bartender and ordered two Coors lights, which we assumed were on special. He transferred us to a server outside, totally fine, but when we got our bill it was $28... We had Coors lights bottles so obviously it was a draft special. My boyfriend went inside twice to talk to the bartender/manager, Ray, about the confusion and was completely brushed off. Reguardless of the fact Uptown doesnt have Coors on tap, it would have been appreciated to be reminded of the special, especially since we ordered domestic beers. Come on. Just had enough cash on us to to cover the bill, hardly leaving the waitress with enough money to tip out the bartender who transferred the check to her. Totally embarrassing!! Hopefully, Ray doesn't treat his employees like his guests so the waitress can keep his tip out for the day. Thanks for making us feel like jerks Ray. Do not see a reason to visit Uptown again, when the service and food is so much better next door. Totally feel robbed. read more

So-o-o-o disappointed to find the wonderful Uptown fish sandwich is now a thing of the past. That beautiful large fish filet on a baguette is now a couple of filet-o-fish squares perched on bread chunks. Gone also is the homemade tartar sauce. It is still a tasty sandwich -- but not the same. Wish they could have raised the price rather than switching to the current fish sandwich incarnation . . . it was a reason for going to the Uptown. read more

Uptown Tap is one of the worst establishments in the area. They attempted to revamp their image by updating the decor and improving their menu. Unfortunately, however, their food is simply overpriced bar food. All of the prices went up, and the food is horrible anyway. I started attending the Thursday night Blues Jams and was told about their Thursday night $5.00 Burgers Special. I looked around and saw these huge monstrosity of burgers around me and thought "how do they make money?" My first night I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger with Crispy Fries and was I impressed! Tender, juicy and done exactly as I asked(medium). Fries were actually crispy and not like warmed up wallpaper paste. Then the next time someone said have you tried their thin crust pizza? So I did-12" thin crust, cheese, sausage, mushrooms and onions with extra cheese and garlic on the whole pizza. IT WAS AMAZING! The waitress suggested before she left with my order to keep it in the oven for about 30 seconds more because then the crust would be perfect and she was right. As I know a lot of the Blues musicians that grace us with their music on Thursday's they started to come by and have a piece and they said that it was the best thin crust they have had in a long time. Guess I'm gonna have to start ordering the 16" if they keep that up. The wait staff is very personable even though they are absolutely swamped. Was impressed that they remembered my name and what I ordered by the third time I was there. If you're looking for a great neighborhood bar with a great kitchen and plenty of TV's with all the sports games on them you would hope for then give Grubbers a try. I ate there on a 6/21/2016 Tuesday evening when Plainfield hosts the Cruisin Nights car show. We sat at the outside patio. I ordered the three tacos for $5.99 and they were pretty tasty. Except for what they claim to be "pico de gallo" it was some chopped lettuce with tomatoes over it. Also, the Appetizer platter was good. What was not good was that they advertised $2.50 Coronas or Modelos but ran out of the Modelos around 6pm when we got there. And when the waiter brought us our plates they both had a lil food stuck on them and one of them had a curly lil hair on it. So I showed the waiter and he just said "oh, would you like another one"? as he wiped the plates with a used cloth napkin that was left on the table from the previous people sitting at that table. I told him no, wondered if he was going to pretend to bring us new ones or was going to use them on his next guests. Gross. read more

So my friend and I wanted to try something new in downtown Plainfield other than MoeJoes which is our usual spot. The first place we went was too fancy so we made our way to Uptown, which is located right next door to MoeJoes. Let me began by telling you my horrific story. We walked into Uptown to not be greeted by anyone so we had to seat ourselves. Then we saw that only one server was on in the entire place. After let's say about a century of a wait, we finally got our delicious water topped off with a lemon. Not only was our thirst unbearable, we kept hearing ghetto music playing from the pimped out cars. Then we ordered our last supper which consisted of wings and a salad. Let's just say I could've made better wings using the sun to cook them. The southwest salad was missing the most important part-the fuc$&@$ tortilla chips. To the waitresses out there, know your damn food, I mean it is your job (coming from a current waitress). I was actually there tonight and I am mortified. My friends and I always choose Gruben's over Moe Joe's, but never again! There is a reason it is slower. It is because of the totally unprofessional bartenders. They were rude to one of my friends that ordered shots. Then, another one of my friends was attempting to make small talk with the bartender, who apparently is extremely self-conscious. She took a simply question about her jeans personally and cut my friend off for no reason. When the other bartender, who was not even involved, approached my friend, she calmly explained her side of the story. The bartender clearly did not care to hear it. She told my friend she was cut off and needed to leave. She then took two of my other friend's full drinks away from them for no reason. No, she did not refund them for those drinks. No one was being obnoxious or rude except for the bartenders who are clearly new. My friends and I frequent this bar but have never seen either of these two bartenders. All of us left in disgust at the treatment. A third girl, who frankly I do not know if she worked there or not, pushed another one of my friends out the door for no reason. I'm sorry, but is that assault? I believe it is. All in all, the treatment was extremely uncalled for and unprofessional. I will, in the future, choose Moe Joe's over Gruben's simply because of the service. Let's be adults and learn a little common courtesy. P.S. My friend left the bartender an $8 tip. Obviously, she did not deserve that. read more
