The reason I'm leaving this review after bringing my dry cleaning business exclusively to this location for about 4-5 years is the obvious deterioration in customer service over the past year or so. Late in June, I brought 4 shirts in for cleaning. Standard service - dropped it off on a Saturday and was told to pick it up a few days later. When I inspected each of the shirts after arriving home, I found that one of them had a very obvious hole ripped into it (first two image uploads below). I suppose this kind of thing happens after many cleanings, and some grace is warranted. The thing is, while this shirt was not new, it was not one I had worn very often over the years and definitely not one I have had to clean many times. I did some investigation and even asked someone I knew in the industry and it appears this kind of damage was most likely due to a mechanical snag during the processing of the shirt. What likely happened was that the shirt was poorly tensioned during the finishing process, resulting in the shirt fibers catching on a rough edge of the clamps in the automatic shirt finisher or perhaps in a rough weld on the pressing buck. Basically, lazy/clumsy processing combined with crappy, old equipment. In other words - cost minimization and good, old-fashioned incompetence. When I brought the shirt back in, the kid working the front desk hastily took it in and, without another word, disappeared into the production floor - no word on when to come back and it wasn't until I called them back a couple of weeks later on a Saturday to get an update that they told me that they would have it ready a few days later, on Wednesday. Were they just sitting on it hoping I would forget about the shirt? It had been about two weeks since I brought the shirt in and I was hoping this gave them enough time to address the issue with a good, clean patch job. Boy, was I wrong. If you are curious what three weeks to get it right looks like at Urban Dry Cleaners, have a look at the pics I uploaded to the Google Review I left for these guys. Truthfully, even before all of this, there were a couple of instances where I left some clothing for cleanup and came back at the agreed-upon pickup time (one of the two times, I even came back a couple of days after the pick-up time) only to be told that the order wasn't yet ready. This was upsetting because, during heavier traffic, the commute over to their Skokie location from where I live can be over 30 minutes. These guys have grown their bottom line at the same rate that they have outgrown good customer service. They no longer need my business, so I will not be coming back. read more

The people at the desk are always efficient and polite. My cleaning is always done on time and without mishap. My only complaint is that I never have any idea what I'm spending. They give me a drop off receipt, but there is no price listed. They send a follow up text politely thanking me for my business, I appreciate it, but again, there is no price listed. I don't know what I owe until after I've paid for it by automatic debit to the credit card I have on file when I pick up my order. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to include it, since it's all very tech forward. read more

At a 4 th of July party, I got a big blob of hot fudge on the front of my brand new dress. It was the first time I wore it, and I thought it was over, this stain would never come out. I did nothing on my own, but I brought it to Urban Cleaners in Skokie. The wonderful manager said she would hand spot it and then dry clean it. I was not optimistic. I just picked it up, and my jaw literally dropped. The dress was perfect. I cannot recommend Urban Cleaners enough. $12 saved me from having to replace my brand new dress. read more

While the cleaning and laundering is great, they do not follow customer or label instructions. Shirts to be laundered are often dry cleaned instead with up charges. They always have an excuse: it was an employee's fault who has Ben fired; we dry cleaned all shirts by label; the managers makes the decision regardless of the instruction. I have had shirts with labels that state do not dry clean but they get dry cleaned . However, they will give a credit or refunds when this happens which is frequent. Advice: check receipts carefully. read more

I was told on Thursday my clothes will be done on Saturday and to come pick it up between 12p to 4p when i dropped it off... came here to pick up at 12p on saturday... waited for 30 mins, no one showed up and store was closed.. came back at 230p, they were done with half of my clothes and was told to come back at 330p.. came back at 330p, now being told one of my sweater won't be ready til monday and can even tell me what time on Monday to come pick it up.. read more

Over promise, under deliver! I brought in 8 items (2 requiring hemming) and was told (and receipt reflects) they would be ready on Wednesday. I called on Thursday as had not heard from them and was told the hemming takes longer and therefore the item would not be ready until noon on Thursday. At 12:30 on Thursday I explained I needed these for vacation then. I came in to pick up my items and was told the hemmed pants would not be available until Friday. No apologies or sorry for the inconvenience. Anna just dug in her heels and said here is you receipt won't be ready until Friday. Gave me a new receipt for the late pair. I told her she lost a customer and her response without eye contact was "ok". So beware. They don't care if about customer needs and they do not deliver by due dates. read more

I am so impressed with the quality laundry and dry cleaning provided by Urban Dry Cleaners. They really go above and beyond my expectations. They don't use harsh chemicals, so my cashmere sweaters come out fresh and so soft and dry cleaned white clothing doesn't yellow. I sent a down comforter to be laundered and they returned it clean and fluffy in a nice plastic zipper case for storage. They even provide hangers with special plastic shoulder reinforcements for heavy coats and jackets. read more

Dropped of a dress mid-week that required cleaning prior to a Saturday wedding (not THE wedding dress, but still important). UC promised--verbally and in writing--that the dress would be ready the day before the ceremony. Friday came... no dress. Worse, can't find the dress? As it turns out, the specialist used to clean items like this looked at it (mid-week) and just set it aside, then left for the week. This is a one-strike ballgame for me. I went to the Milwaukee location. Oof.... Stay away. I listened to the five star reviews and sometimes forget that those can be fake. I brought in a brand new, never worn, fashion blazer/ jacket. All I wanted was for the folding lines to be taken out from the jacket from being shipped. The associate stated the jacket would need to be pressed. I told her no, that's not a good idea, but she stated that's how they do it. I told her if that's how they do it, that's fine, so long as it doesn't add any more lines to the jacket and the existing lines are taken out. She said there wont be any lines. Unfortunately, they pressed the jacket, or "steam pressed" it, as management stated, and I got permanent double lines all over the jacket on either side of each seam! Ahhh! They sent the jacket away two more times for it to be fixed and I informed management, if the lines can't be taken out, I want to be refunded the cost of the jacket as this was their fault. They refused to refund me and stated the lines were a manufacturer's defect. How could that be if the lines weren't there in the first place? Furthermore, if there's any concerns on what the customer wants done vs. what the results are going to be, shouldn't the customer be informed of that? Eesh. My friend suggested CD Cleaners, maybe I'll try them instead. My jacket is ruined. Business response: Thanks for your review Cheryl. We are sorry you feel this way. As we stated the lines on the bottom was due to the manufacturing issue of your fashion jacket. If this was caused by us it would be all over and other areas of the seam. Once again thanks for your business. My response: The manufacturer would never send me a garment with pressed lines on it, and had they done so, I would've returned the garment. The reason other lines didn't present themselves on the rest of the jacket is because the jacket is flat every where else, except where the seams are. That's why your pressed lines only showed up by the seams, because you pressed the garment over its seams. When fabric has to be sewn together there will be a slight overhang of material, and it's up to the dry cleaner to give a little extra care to these seamed areas and not press them, because they will make permanent double lines in the fabric on both sides of the seam. This is dry cleaning 101. Like I said, customer beware, there are a million other dry cleaners you can go to. And instead of working this out with me or asking me to come in, I was given the brush off. So I will take my money elsewhere. read more

I have used this dry cleaner since it opened a few years back. My wife complained that they faded the color on some of her clothing and refused to let me take her items there! My final straw with this establishment was when I took some sofa pillow cases that had a gold metallic finish on them to be dry cleaned. When I got them back, all of the gold metallic finish was gone. The manager stated to me that the cameras didn't show the gold finish. Anyone that has ever taken a picture of something with a gold finish knows that light has to reflect off of the gold or it will look flat! Anyway I am done with this place. They just opened in January. Great location because it's right by I-94 and in a plaza that has tons of parking. The first thing I noticed was how they have automatic doors and a big lobby. The doors were a major plus because the dry cleaning place I used to go to didn't have them and I always had trouble opening when I'm bringing in multiple items of clothing. It's the little things, y'all. The lobby was airy, modern and super inviting. As soon as you walk in you'll see a long counter where they'll check in your clothing. Saj, the manager, assisted me and informed me that they only use natural products and practice sustainable cleaning. With their introductory offer, 3 winter coats including one with faux fur (that another dry cleaner chain couldn't clean), a cashmere and wool blend sweater and velvet skirt came out to only $17.07. Wow. My clothes came out so clean and soft. They were ready in less than 24hours. I definitely recommend! If you need a quote, just call them ahead of time. read more

Awesome customer service! I had a wedding this past weekend to attend and as usual I was last minute to get my suit cleaned. It's an older suit because my newer suits are too big and I didn't have time to get them tailored down. When I pulled the suit out boom it fit perfect again but was in need of a cleaning bad. I then noticed one of the jacket buttons was broken . So I went to urban because of the great reviews and let me tell you they were amazing. They originally told me Monday before they could have it cleaned but after I explained I had a wedding Sunday they found a way to have it done the next day (Saturday). What initially enticed me to go to this place was the Groupon I purchased. I noticed it was a "green" cleaner and wanted to try it out. When I arrived, I noticed how clean and bright the place was. They were very nice and attentive, asked if I was a new customer, inputed my info, and counted my garments for dry cleaning. She then said that since I am a new customer, I'd receive 50% off. Love that! The price was already reasonable. So, that was cheaper than my Groupon and it can be used on my next trip to this cleaner. When I received my 8 dry cleaned garments, I was well-pleased. Everything was clean and lotion/oil stains weren't visible anymore by the pockets. Tip: Let them know any place of concentration. Dirt/oil/markings can receive extra care. I am so impressed with a Urban Cleaners. I bought two items in that were wool And wound up having heavy perfume odors in them which I cannot stand. I tried a regular dry cleaner and sadly the perfume odor remained. Urban cleaners offered to clean my items and not charge me if they couldn't get the smells out of my wool garments. Within one day I was notified that my clothing was ready to pick up. The price point is fantastic and no perfume residual is in either of my two items of clothing. I started out using Yelp to only complain about businesses but so many places really are outstanding and need to be recognized such as Urban Cleaners! I discovered them shortly after they opened and much to my surprise they have been great and are above and beyond from all other cleaners I have used in the past. Their prices are good and they offer fabulous first time discounts to new customers. I once had a leather belt that they sent out for repair and it came back better than when it was new. I bring in all my cashmere sweaters that they do an expert job on. During this pandemic they have been wonderful with contactless curbside service and even before the pandemic, they have always offered free pick-up and delivery. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HORRIBLE OWNER!! If I could give a negative star I would. I had dropped off three items a few months ago before leaving the state for work and at that time the woman behind the counter only asked for my phone number for the dry cleaning claim ticket. I gave her my phone number as she requested and left. Once back in town and prior to returning to the dry cleaners to retrieve my items, I search everywhere for the claim ticket but couldn't find it. I went to the cleaners anyway thinking if I could just describe the three items I dropped off down to the color, size and the tags on the clothes showing the brand name I wouldn't have any issues paying for my clothes and getting them back. I went to the dry cleaner this morning and only the owner was working when I arrived. I told him my situation and after checking their system and not finding my phone number, he told me my clothes weren't there. I asked multiple times if he could please do a quick- walk through to check if my clothes were hanging in the back possibly without a ticket, he absolutely refused to even check. This is a small neighborhood dry cleaner so the store isn't even that large to do a walk through for a customers items. I asked again and gave him even more details about each item and he said he knows they wouldn't be there because my phone number wasn't in there their system end of story. He then said it was my fault my information wasn't in the system and if I was dropping my car off for service would I only give them my phone number for a claim ticket? Seriously!??! He was overbearing, rude, uncooperative and lacked any basic customer service skills or accountability. How lazy and unprofessional can you be, especially as the owner of a small business!?? I am now out a cute summer dress, a cashmere scarf and a cashmere sweater all because the owner is bitter and hates his customers. Go anywhere else for your dry cleaning but here. read more
