This is hands-down the best salon I've ever been to, and I've lived in several major cities. Erin is incredible and completely transformed my hair from something I was embarrassed about to something that lifts my mood every day. If you're looking for talented stylists, a clean hygienic salon (especially during COVID), affordable prices, friendly fun atmosphere, good location with free parking, then please take my word for it and schedule time at Urban Evolution Salon. For those with fine hair or looking to explore sew-in extensions as an option, here's a more detailed review: I've suffered from fine hair that has increasingly gotten sparser over the years. To remedy that, I would wear clip-in hair extensions to give my hair a boost. Unfortunately, clip-ins were really hard on my scalp and often left me with irritation where the clips were secured. Erin, who always did a fabulous job of cutting and blending the clip-ins into my hair, recommended I try the sew-ins as an option. I was skeptical at first but now 6 weeks after my initial installation, I will never go back to anything else. These sew-ins feel weightless in my hair, have caused no pain or bald spots, and are incredibly gentle on my delicate hair. They also blend better than the clip-ins, because there are no bulky parts to them and when you don't have a lot of hair to disguise extensions, this really matters. They are surprisingly cost-effective in the long run too, because they don't need to be replaced as often and seem to be of higher quality than even the most expensive Remy clip-ins. They're actually not difficult to take care of, and the amount of time they have saved me daily versus applying clip-ins is also so worth it! I've always joked that I'm a low-maintenance girl in a high-maintenance body, and these sew-ins allow me to wake up every day already looking amazing. I can be more versatile with my hairstyles, and I haven't had a bad hair day since - even when I'm lazy and just spray a little dry shampoo, brush, and go. The installation process was super easy, and when you're in the chair with Erin, she makes the time go by so quickly! Every few months you'll go back for a quick repositioning of the sew-ins, but I can't say enough good things about them. Whatever your hair needs are, I urge you to give this salon a try. The cuts, the coloring, and even the products they stock are sublime. Even the stylists and staff that don't work with you directly are kind and make you feel so welcomed. I have been an Urban Evolution Salon customer for a long time, back when Pam was the owner. There's new management/ownership, and all in all, it's still a well-run salon, the people are very friendly, has a great vibe, I get a great cut - high praise. But.. last week I was paying for the service when I was told I'd have to pay a $3 surcharge because the salon is "going green" and recycling their products. ("WHAT?!!") This should be a cost of doing business, not something the customer has to pay for. It's great the salon is doing this, but don't pass the cost onto the customer, that's not right - it's a tax. Also, I don't know who they are paying to do their recycling, but they are being overcharged! Imagine if 25 clients go through there in a day, that's $75 just in recycling fees they've collected - for a single day! Add it up for the week or month, and they have collected a hefty sum. This new tax is making me think twice about taking my business elsewhere. I know of other "green" salons, and they don't charge their clients for the salon's choice (not mine) to participate in a recycling program. Change your ways, UES, or you're going to see your clients recycle to other salons. ============================================= Update: Erin, in response to your response to me, first off, thank you, I appreciate the comments. Unfortunately, you're missing the point. Recycling and being an eco-responsible salon is great and very much in line with my values. What I have a problem with is you charging the customer for your participation in the program. Why should I have to pay the $3 fee for your salon's participation? It's a cost of doing business. It may seem like a small amount, but when you add that cost onto an already very expensive service, it adds up. You should be absorbing the cost for your salon, not your clients. That's my point. I have entrusted Shannon McMasters with my long, thick locks (my source of confidence) for a couple of years now. In January, I finally had her slice 12 inches off, yes, a full foot of hair (We'd been talking about this chop for two years). I was incredibly nervous, I had only experienced short hair two other times in my life, and both previous attempts were total fails (Great Clips, 20 years ago, *never again*). I showed Shannon some inspiration photos, and we discussed at length, how I wanted it shaped, the length, etc. She listened, and proceeded to give me one of the most fabulous haircuts of my entire life- not exaggerating. I walked into that appointment thinking "oh god, what if I hate this, I'm going to hate this, why am I doing this??", and I walked out like, "YESSSSS, WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO DO THIS?!" *hip sashay, hair flip*. She listens to what you want, gives her professional opinion to help guide you to the perfect cut for your face shape, and is THE person to see if you are ready to update your look and give you the perfect confidence boost. This is one of the best salons I've been to! The staff are super friendly and personable.They make you feel right at home by talking to you like a person and not just a customer. They also offer you a drink as soon as you walk in for your appointment while you wait (not that you wait very long). I was super nervous about going in because I've had long hair for a long time now and was looking to go short. My stylist was Laura and she told me she had just started working at this salon a few month ago, which was really surprising with how comfortable she made me feel about her cutting my hair. I presented the ideas on how I wanted the cut to look and she supported my ideas 110%, when I was unsure if it would look alright she said things like "Oh, you can totally pull off bangs! Lets do it!" This is definitely one of the best haircuts I've received in a while and I am glad I chose this salon for such a big change. Thank you to the Urban Evolution staff! I am new to Atlanta. I needed to find a new stylist. I booked an appointment with Ashley. I went in looking for a change in my hair color. I have very bad rosacea and was sporting very red hair at the time which only made the redness more pronounced. Ashley was able to choose a color that complimented my skin tone much better and made the redness far less noticeable. She was absolutely amazing. The entire staff were friendly and always ready to lend a hand or offer drinks, snacks and whatever they could to make me more comfortable. It truly felt like a family setting. Warm, inviting, immaculate and easily accessible. I would highly recommend Ashley, yet I feel confident that anyone there would be very capable of meeting all needs of any client that makes the best decision ever by choosing this wonderful salon! I had my first experience with Urban Evolution Salon a few days ago, when I made the hour drive from the 'burbs to get my hair cut and colored by Laura, and I will definitely be making the drive again - month after month for the upkeep. The salon has a warm environment with friendly staff, and Laura is the color master! She completely transformed my hair into something I could love again -- and she made me laugh the entire time. The only thing better than great hair service is great conversation while you're getting said service. There's also something to be said for efficiency; I had a complex color job and a stylized cut done in about three hours. That's far less time than I have spent in many salons, even for less involved services. JEN LUNT IS MAGICAL. She brought my hair from damaged short and BOX DYED BLACK to a beautiful ashy blonde (closer to my natural and much more fitting) My hair is longer, healthier, and much thicker since going to Jen. I have always struggled with salons and the unexpected results you get from inexperienced stylist, that is absolutely NOT the case here! Jen is professional, experienced, and creative and don't worry she will tell you the truth if she does not think something is going to work for you (much needed). Jason is the BEST... Better than any stylist I have ever had before! (& I've definitely been around :) Experienced: Jason has been doing hair for a long time...he is fun, knowledgeable, & confident. I've been coming here for just about 2 years now, getting my hair done by Shannon. Honestly, I found Urban because I had a coupon and they were walking distance from my job in Atlanta. After my first appointment, I knew Shannon was going to be a permanent stylist for me. She is friendly and keeps conversation going, the space is always clean, the employees are all incredibly talented. I drive 1.5 hours to go see them now that I've switched jobs and moved outside Atlanta. There is no one else I trust with my hair like Shannon. I come in and give her cryptic details about what I would like, maybe a couple pictures, and no matter what, she always makes me look great. I followed my favorite stylist, Laura, to this salon. Laura has been making my hair look fabulous for a few years and she never disappoints. My hair is fine, but I have a lot of it so finding someone that really understands my hair has been a challenge. Ever since I have been going to Laura, my hair is super easy to style due to her understanding how it responds to certain cuts. I receive compliments regularly mainly because her coloring skills are superb! She makes sure you have everything you need to maintain your color and keep it locked in as long as possible. I started going to Urban Evolutions because my stylist started here earlier this year. I am so glad I was able to follow Laura to another salon. When you have crazy curly hair it is so hard to find someone that you trust and makes your hair look fabulous. Laura is always patient with me and it is appreciated bc sad to say I am one of those clients that never knows what I want! Erin at Urban Evolution is absolutely amazing. After moving from Boston to Atlanta 4 years ago- I was picky about picking a new hairdresser. I found Erin and the rest is history. I have trusted her with extensions, my wedding day hair, my easy wash, cut and blow dry and have referred many girlfriends to her and they all say the same thing....she is amazing. She takes the time to understand exactly what you want, actually doesn't chop off 3 inches when you tell her not to (thank you for keeping my hair long!!!), is great at making my non-voluminous hair have a ton of volume, and is also a sweetheart. This was my first time to Urban Evolution and I saw Ariel and could not have been more pleased. I told her what I wanted to do (lighten all over pretty much) and by the end of our discussion, I felt like she understood exactly what I wanted. I never leave reviews but I had to for this place. This is my new favorite hair salon. Michael was AMAZING. And while I was there I got to see the other stylists who all have amazing, sweet personalities. Michael is super talented and very passionate about his work. I was AMAZED at my hair when he finished it. I asked for a copper red and he delivered it. Looked just like the reference picture I showed him. Amazing salon in a great part of town! I have been getting my hair cut and colored by Erin for the past 3 years and she has done a fabulous job every time. My mom and I followed her to Urban Evolution from another salon and we couldn't be happier!! I love how I can tell her my my vision (even if it may seem a little crazy!) and she always delivers. I have been seeing Malorie since 2009 starting in Old Towne Conyers. She is absolutely amazing!! She always produces exactly what I ask for from cuts, ombre to all over color.... it always turns out perfectly.
