Doesn't matter if you aren't a gardener, haven't a clue or are just curious. Welcome back to a) staff who are FRIENDLY, PERSONABLE, able to listen and provide you with solutions and expertise and b) a customer service experience that you've only dreamed about. Whether it's bee keeping, pollinating, irrigation or whatnot - they have an expert for you. And it's fair to call all of them experts. I visited the store before Easter, frazzled since I was under pressure to set up an irrigation system in a hurry, before travel. (Complicated somewhat since I'm NOT super techy or mechanically savvy, ha.) I dealt with THREE pros - but let me describe Amy at Checkout. Amy took me under her wing. She not only found a pro (two in fact) - who were equally awesome, knowledgeable - but Amy took lead and special care with me to make sure I fully understood irrigation basics, going to the trouble of recommending AND explaining which system to consider, what I would need - plus even SETTING UP THE SYSTEM ON MY PHONE. Amy took time to actually take items out of their packaging and SET THEM UP!!!! Besides SETTING UP ON MY PHONE - what MORE can you ask? I have never met such a group of kind, friendly, knowledgeable and soothing people! Amy's smile and laugh was infectious, and I truly was astounded at how happy she was to see me in again, with another dumb question. Love this place - we don't use biofuel, but chicken & gardening supplies here & have taken classes on chicken health. Everyone who works here is friendly and helpful and knowledgeable. Our family likes to buy gifts here: big hits have included a cheese making kit, local art work & beeswax candles. They also put on fun events like solstice celebrations & fungi fairs. So happy to have them in our neighborhood. Just got new chicks from them & really appreciated their thoughtful advice on integrating them in with our adult birds. read more

i would take up bee keeping and urban farming just to enjoy the Four Seasons level of service at this place offer. i have only recently taken up bee keeping and this place takes what looks like a complicated activity and makes easy and fun for the layperson. Everyone from the owner on down are extremely helpful, and you can tell they are passionate about what they do. i wanted to write this review a couple of weeks ago, because i had just an incredible customer service experience, that i told a friend it may have bee the best customer service i've had in the last 10 years at least. my experience with most brick and mortar locations these days, owners and employees either don't realize or don't care about customer service, so when you do experience great customer service, at first i was shocked, and then delighted. Can't say enough good things about this place. one last thing. i received my NUC of bees this past Monday night, little bit of a hairdo but nothing major. Couldn't have been easier. the bees are super happy and chill. will definitely be putting in another order for next years bees. one last last thing if you're really knew to the bee keeping scene, make sure you read their website, great info there, their classes on line are great, and should be taken before acquiring your bees. watch a lot of youtube videos it's not super complicated, but you are attending to another living creature so it's nice to have abase knowledge on how to take care of them. read more

My guilty cooking pleasure is fried tofu, fries, fish and chicken... so I do end up with a sizable amount of leftover cooking oil. This biofuel gas station is the perfect solution and place to drop off all my used cooking oil to be recycled for biofuel. I like being able to do my part and prevent used cooking oil from going to landfill. Just bring your cooking oil in a container to be poured into their used cooking oil tank (ask the cashier if it's your first time, sometimes it is also locked too). Then bring your container home to use and fill up with more used cooking oil for your next visit to recycle . read more

Absolutely terrible experience here today. Been a customer for going on 10 years. Pulled up to purchase 1 gallon of B20 for my carboy. Swiped my card and proceeded to fill up, totaling $6.81. Left thinking nothing was wrong, got to the next stop on my errands and realized Bio Fuel had charged me $50! Got in my car and drove back to get a refund, not only were the employees totally unhelpful, they were dismissive and insulting, completely unable and unwilling to help rectify the situation. Been on the phone with my bank trying to get the charge reversed and they say it has to be refunded by the merchant. Sounds like I'm out of luck, didn't really have an extra $50 to waste on nothing, and gonna have a hard time buying groceries this weekend while I wait to get paid. The worst thing of all - I just paid $50 for one gallon of fuel! read more

They also sell some plants and all kinds of other stuff including: beekeeping supplies, honey, kombucha, pickle weights, fermenting jars, chicks, chicken feed and supplies, seeds, art prints and printed colorful hanging flags. very friendly staff but completely disorganized if ordering bees. They did not keep to their schedule for pick up time and didn't let customers know that they would be 2 hours late. Very unaccommodating when trying to coordinate another pick up time and threatened to release the bees if not picked up within their time frame. When I made the switch to biodiesel, it didn't really hit me what I was getting into until I filled up at Biofuel Oasis for the first time. Instead of giving my money to an indifferent employee of a polluting global megacorp with ties to every corrupt regime on earth, I was buying fuel - made from veggie oil!! - from a woman-owned co-op. I am still driving a car to get to where I need to go, yet I am no longer buying fuel from a gas station. That first tank of fuel felt like a revolutionary act in a way that I can't describe. Biofuel Oasis does more than sell you fuel, though. They put on workshops and provide information to people who want to learn more about how to operate their car with biodiesel, and they sell empty tanks for fuel, so those of us who don't live in Berkeley can keep a few gallons in the garage. Other things they do right: they do their best to use recycled waste veggie oil (so forests aren't being clearcut to make way for crops to fuel your car), they meet ATSM standards (so you know you're getting quality fuel that will perform well in your engine), and they include additives in the fuel which seem to help with cold weather starts. This is going to be my first winter with biodiesel, and so far I haven't had any problems starting in the morning. We'll see how it goes when the weather gets colder, but so far their fuel has held up. read more

This place is one of the few locations to purchase bio diesel in the East Bay. The Bio Oasis is locally owned and operated worker co op. The Bio Oasis offers classes in urban farming, beekeeping and animal keeping - goats & chickens. And oh yeah.. they also sell bio diesel! They even offer a pay card so you can purchase diesel on the days when the actual office is closed - which is on Sundays - I think. They also help out by posting helpful info for diesel owners so they know that the bio diesel gels at 32F before purchasing :) I specifically attended the bee keeping 101 class on March 20th. I found it extremely helpful to meet local individuals who are interested in bee keeping. It was also really nice to be able to ask the questions I had after I started reading Sweetness & Light by Hattie Ellis and the Backyard Beekeeper by Kim Flottum on my own inclination - which lead me to sign up to for the class - which is a steal at only $35! The class is from 9:30 am - 1pm and is guided by a power point presentation that covers the basics about bee history, set up cost, types of bee, bee resources etc. I showed up early and Margaret let me wait inside until the class started - instead of freezing my tush outside. The class was taught by two lovely ladies who themselves are relatively new beekeepers - Margaret for 3 years and Jennifer - 5 years. Margaret has a stutter but I was so impressed by her choosing to teach the class - regardless of the stutter! Jennifer made the point that because they are newer beekeepers they remember the challenges of beginning beekeeping. Ex.. thinking the bees sleep at night - THEY DON'T - so don't mess with your bees at night! They give out the power point as a hand out so make sure to bring a pen and take notes! Its also great as an information resource. I highly recommend the class and the teachers. So check out the bio oasis! read more

I'm just gonna throw one more update out there! On top of all of the awesome things I've already said about them, they also have workshops now. You can learn how to make your own cheese, ferment your own pickles or kombucha or mead, raise your own bees or chickens, and much more. Also: they do not set the price of biodiesel. The price is set by their supplier, and is pretty stable. It is always going to cost more than diesel, at least until we have some kind of alternative fuel revolution, because it takes diesel-powered trucks to ship all that used cooking oil around. In fact, the cost of all goods is tied to the price of diesel. There's your Econ 101 for the day! There was recently a study done that showed that if you include the practical costs of all that pollution, gasoline "actually" costs us upwards of $6.50 a gallon. It's just that we pay some of that cost at the pump, and the rest of it later. So at around $4.75 a gallon, payable up front only, biodiesel is a fantastic deal. read more

I don't run bio on a regular basis, but I was in the area and I wanted to check it out. So, I'm glad this place exists, and I think it's a good thing they have going. A few negatives I have to mention: - Price per gallon was a lot higher than I was expecting. Dyno diesel is under $3, bio was $3.65. Ouch. - Cash or check only. I had to go back out to get cash at an ATM. If you want to be cutting edge, how about taking paypal? - Only one bay and pulling in is at a weird angle, so my car (slightly lowered) can't pull in or out without scraping. I'll keep an eye on how things progress. read more

Back when I owned a diesel vw rabbit, this was a regular place for me. I've now moved on to EV (for quite a while, for those nay-sayers--haven't been to a gas station, needed an oil change, etc., plus I can leave my car 'running' and eat my lunch behind it, but that's another story.) The reason I love Biofuel Oasis is 2 things: One: I have chickens in the backyard and they are hungry girls...I mean women...so I have come to count on this place for all my chicken feed requirements outside of weeds in the yard. I have filled up my Dodge Ram's 35 gallon fuel tank on more than a few times. That's a bunch of bucks at $4.59 a gallon. I have also bought more than a few bags of chicken feed. Unlike a lot of folks here, I've always found the folks there pleasant and helpful and not at all rude or arrogant. Sometimes I buy chicken scratch or pellets for my girls. Good stuff, and though expensive the chickens love it! But I have to say, I drive down the freeway a few more miles past Berkeley to Oakland, and I can buy ASTM certified B100 made from recycled restaurant grease at Sirona Fuels, aka Blue Sky Biofuels. They will fill your tank from a truck, or from a large container. I usually show up with additional cubes or barrels so that I keep my trips here to a minimum. At the current price of $3.90 a gallon I am saving a nice chunk of cash, upwards of $22 a tank. Oh, and Sirona Fuels makes the Biodiesel there in their Biodiesel plant. Locally collected used cooking oil in Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco, locally produced and sold Biodiesel. Good Stuff. read more

I've been here a few times and read the previous reviews. I must say that yes the staff is friendly and helpful, great people...what you'd expect from the biodiesel community. And the facility is charming, with an assortment of urban farming supplies and unconventional mart for your crunchy side. However, the price of biodiesel is unacceptable. When I went there It was well over 1.25 more expensive than any biodiesel I had bought in the previous month, and I just did a cross country trip from Georgia. From Georgia, to Missouri, to Colorado, to Utah, to Nevada, Biofuel Oasis was the most expensive. It is too bad because both times I've been here there were no cars/trucks and I was the only client. Too bad, this place could do so much better by making their fuel more competitively priced. read more

Hooray for Biofuel Oasis! They have organic chicken feed milled in CA - I had my choice of layer crumbes, layer pellets, start & grow, and scratch. The feed is from Modesto Milling (made in California - much more local than "Organic Pride" which is shipped from MO and owned by Land O'Lakes, which is owned by Purina). It is wonderful that Biofuel Oasis organizes classes for would-be urban homesteaders now. It would be more wonderful still if the contacts at these classes were FRIENDLY and HELPFUL. I had no clue the woman onsite at the venue for the class was with Biofuel Oasis. I didn't know who the heck she was. I found out by accident when she came up and pumped me for all kinds of info on where I learned about the class and looked weirdly at me when I basically said, not from the Biofuel Oasis site, but from a local urban farmer. Cripes. By the time we all came out to meet the goats and learn to milk them, etc, I noticed there was a display of books available for sale. Well, I think they were for sale. There was NO sign, there was NO invitation to purchase books, and I think I saw the Biofuel employee running someone's credit card to buy a book. The class teacher was wonderful. I was so pleased to learn about urban goats from her. Her end of the class was perfect. Kitty Sharkey of Havenscourt Homestead ROCKS. She knows so much and is so helpful. I will just contact her privately next time I have goat questions. I would really not want to teach classes very loosely organized by these biofuel hags though. They have utterly no people skills, and even fewer customer service skills. Thank you ladies. My girlfriend and I drive two diesel vw bugs. We bought them just to use biodiesel. I appreciated the classes and help with the switch. I like their eclectic little station with bee keeping stuff and urban farming gear. I ran into a problem with other vendors using virgin oils instead of recycled wast oils, so I was grateful to the biodivas for their dedication to the best ideas behind biofuel. What put them over the top is when they took over a small lone pump operated in San Anselmo, which is much closer to me. That was really great. I havn't seen much of the ladies in their organic eco station since then as I use the local pump, so I thought I'd give them a yelp. Thank you, you rock. read more

I just got a '83 280D that has been converted over to WVO. I don't have the filtering setup yet so I thought that I'd drive up to Berkeley and support Bio Oasis. It was a nice little shop and the person behind the counter was very helpful in explaining how things run. I got about 1/2 a tank full up and I also bought a 5 gal. carboy so I don't have tho make the trip as often. (I'll buy more carboys when I have more $$). I also picked up a couple of bumper stickers- How can you pass these up? I wish that they had more in their shop, but I guess if they did, I would have just walked out with less money. Oh, I paid by card- I think it was ran as credit, but I'm not sure. If you're interested in finding out about BD, I bet they can answer all your questions. I live in SF but get fuel there everytime I go thru Berkeley and then fill up carboys to keep me running between visits. Woman owned just makes it sweeter. Biodiesel isn't the "answer" but it is a huge step in the right direction. And its easy to do....just get a diesel car and make the switch. Cleaner, renewable, local, no war required. read more

I come here for organic lay pellets, my three hens go through a 50lb bag every two months. It's convenient to drive right up to the stack and load them in my car. I've also bought straw bales and plants from here. The people at the register are always friendly and ready to answer any questions I have about urban farming and the local community. One time I came in they even had a honey tasting, that was a great day! read more
