Short line and the menu offered decent choices. I picked one Baja fish taco and one blackened white fish taco. Both were on their delightful corn tortillas. Loved the texture of the tortilla and the fish was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The Baja was lightly deep fried and the white fish was grilled. Both were fabulous. The food was decent. The variety was cool but I'd prefer authentic Mexican tacos. The rice and broth was a nice touch. Interesting flavor combos. The pork belly wasn't as tender as I thought. We'd met for dinner last night and had both clinched upon a taqueria since it was, indeed, Taco Tuesday. But since Yours Truly cannot stand any type of seafood except for shrimp cocktails, our arrival at the crowded restaurant sent BOTH of us into a momentary spiral. My buddy couldn't concentrate with the standing room only crowds, fifteen-deep line to order, 6-deep queue to refill your drinks. So we quickly grabbed our silver plated serving trays and walked thirty yards west to the outdoor seating area at Panera. Yes, we faithfully returned both trays at meals end. My miniaturized "first world problem" was provoked by two realizations: A.) Urban Fish Taco specializes in fish or shrimp tacos. And I don't mess with seafood. B.) Their carne asada tacos weren't covered under their "Taco Tuesday" promotion, where $3.15/Taco gets you your choice of fish, shrimp two different ways or their chicken al pastor. If you wanted asada, you'd pay the menu-stipulated price of $4.99/per. "Relax, Willingham," I counseled myself. "You've grown to love Cabos Tacos in Glendora¹ so give this place a chance." ¹ Cabos Tacos, on picture-scenic Route 66 in Glendora, is another fish forward taqueria that happens to offer well made, thick asada tacos. My pal opted for a four-pack of Tacos, two each of fish, one shrimp and one chicken al pastor. Me? Went straight for a quartet of the chicken al pastor, tho I'd requested flour tortillas in lieu of corn. The ambiance at Urban Taco on Tuesday nights is comparable to a crowded Bronx subway station- No where to sit and the distinct threat of an armpit thrust near your face if you're not too careful! The decor is reminiscent of any newer Chipotle/Cava or Habit Burger place. White subway tiled walls, cavernous ceilings outfitted with corrugated metal fixtures and exposed pipe, a venerable tribute to the industrial, recycled chic that seems to dominate nearly all modern "Fast casual" restaurants. Once we'd pivoted down to the outdoor tables at neighboring Panera after we'd realized that even the walk up bar style seats were all occupied, we sat down and feasted. My tacos were sublime. So glad I'd gone rogue and requested flour tortillas versus the obligatory corn ones. UFT's flour tortillas are clearly hand formed, flattened in a tortillera then flash-griddled on a flat top to achieve a glassy, slightly crunchy exterior. The chicken al pastor is deliciously seasoned, with tiny diced segments of pineapple to provide a bright counterpoint. They're served with pickled onions, dressed with creamy avocado and madre cremas to distill a cooling contrast to the slight heat of the well spiced protein. Dave's order must've been pretty good, cause he quaffed the entirety of his meal in record time. The restroom was barely suitable for such a busy venue. I pegged it "barely" because the empty paper towel dispenser screamed "we need attention." My bill, including tax and nominal tip because we sat offside, was $14.83. read more

I'm glad I found this place and was able to try it! The worker taking my order was kind and helpful and the food came out very quickly! I got 2 blackened salmon tacos which came out to around $10. I felt that the tortillas were freshly made and I enjoyed them. They were soft too. They packed the taco with salmon! It was tasty too. She is so on top of her job and I'm very impressed the second I got up from my table she was already headed to clean my table. Many many different types of tacos, with customizable shell. (Corn/Flour) My go to is always the surf & turf and baja fish tacos combos. Comes with the two tacos, rice & beans. Both are crunchy and very savory. The tacos are sometimes a bit salty which makes the rice perfect to finish off the ingredients that fall off to the rice. It's the perfect way to mix the ingredients with the rice to make the perfect combo to finish up the dish. Service - 4/5, Staff here don't really tend to diners, but they're friendly and speedy with their tasks. Orders would come out pretty quickly do your order number. For a while now, this place has been a go to for good, fast tacos. They have a 2 taco combo that includes rice, beans and a fountain drink for $14. You can choose any combination of tacos from their list. I usually get the surf and turf on flour tortillas (steak, shrimp, pico, micro greens). They have other foods, but I have yet to try anything else. They also serve alcohol for those interested in that. Overall. It's a chill spot. My wife ordered the grilled white fish plate with lemon butter, and it was rich, buttery, and kind of stole the show. Honestly couldn't decide which dish I liked more. We also split a side of fries, which were solid (4/5), but the mains are what make this place shine. This spot replaced Bruxie, formerly one of my favorite corner hangs here, and I think it's a worthy successor. Clean, modern interior and decent service round it all out. Extremely salty, including the rice... It seems instead of vinegar or lime juice, Urban's recipe just calls for tons of salt. Other taco places nearby have carne asada that has a lot of flavor, using vinegar and lime to enhance the taste. Urban just uses a lot of salt. Same with the fish taco, same with the beans, even with the rice...I can't believe how salty the white rice was. After my initial review over 3 years ago, I have been back here a handful of times and all visits were great until our most recent visit over this past weekend. I'm not sure if it was a bad day or if recipes/management have changed but our food was extremely salty. We ordered a 2 taco combo with Baja Fish Taco & Baja Shrimp Taco, Urban Fries with carne asada, Chips & Salsa, and a side of Grilled Zuchinni. What we noticed is that every item that had the melted oaxacan cheese on it tasted extremely salty. We have had the Baja fish and shrimp tacos before and never had this complaint so there was definitely something different from our past experiences. This was our first time trying the urban fries and we noticed that the individual components were all fine and the bites we had with the melted oaxacan cheese were super/overly salty. Another thing we noticed was that in the past, there were always workers that would walk by and ask tables if they were ok or needed anything else. They were also quick to clean up tables for new customers. This was not the case this time. We had to clean our own table and did not have anyone stop by to check on us at all. I definitely understand that this is not a full service restaurant so I am simply mentioning that this was different from our previous experiences here.
