We came here for a quick lunch. The food was served very quickly and the portions were very generous. We were helped by Lorraine and Victor, very helpful in ordering since it was our first time. Grilled steak plate with asparagus and roasted potatoes/carrots. Great steak and asparagus but the steak was a bit cold by the time it came to us. Mixed beets with Salmon, we really liked the beet salad but the salmon was a bit cold by the time it came to us. Urban Chicken salad, chicken did not taste so good but the salad was decent. It had a nice zing to it. Won't try the chicken again. We wanted something sweet after. Hummingbird cake was excellent, very nutty and moist but 1100 calories!! It's definitely a treat. Chocolate vanilla cake satisfied my 4 year old is all I have to say. Mango torte is the lighter dessert at about 330 calories, this is more for me :) light, refreshing and hits the spot! read more

Always enjoy a visit to Urban Plates. Today, we found ourselves in Irvine and saw a previously unvisited Urban Plates location which of course, warranted a stop. Spacious, clean, upscale and inviting, we placed our orders and sipped on cold beverages awaiting our food. My Braised Beef and Mushroom bowl was loaded with tasty chunks of beef covered in a rich, yummy sauce. I could have used more mushrooms. however. I opted for the mashed potatoes for my side and was treated to a generous heap of perfectly cooked spuds which when covered with the beef sauce was perfect! My dining companion, chose the mixed beet salad which covered her plate right to the edges. Everything in the salad was delicious and the orange and yellow beets were plentiful and as tasty as one could hope for. We love Urban Plates! read more

Came here for dinner and for the first time since the pandemic. The ordering protocol has changed, and you can no longer move through the cafeteria-ish line. You order everything up at the register and they'll bring it out to you. Ordered the following dishes: Braised beef with mushroom bowl Chimichurri grass fed steak with broccolini and Brussels sprouts Both were really really good in my opinion, and I like how the quality hasn't changed at all despite the pandemic. Ate at the outdoor fireplace area and as we're sitting down, Aqeel (waiter) offered to bring us couple of chairs and also clean the area. Definitely above and beyond in my opinion so thank you for being so helpful! Had a very pleasant experience as always and will be coming back soon! read more

Great food and amazing service! Been coming here for years because their food is so good and I've noticed recently, that they are making efforts to improve the quality of their service. It's really in the smallest details for me! Here's what I've been seeing, the chefs are delivering food orders to the tables versus the servers. I like to order the kids plates because their portions are pretty generous and they are serving better cuts of the steak lately. Also, I noticed that UP lowered their prices a bit at a time where everyone else is raising their prices to outrageous levels! Lastly, our very sweet and friendly server, Carlos gave us excellent service, made conversation and took the time to get to know us. UP has always held high standards and we will continue to come here along with everyone else, as it is usually a very busy place! read more

We ate there last month, and again today. The food quality was poor both times. The grilled chicken was dry and tasteless instead of moist and tasty like it should be. The potato chips that came with the sandwich plate were stale, soggy, and hardly edible because they obviously long passed the 'best to use' date. The tuna we ordered had the same problem - not fresh and stringy it was almost inedible either. read more

The best cozy atmosphere for a variety of healthy food. Each time has been consistently good. Service is quick. I usually get the chimichurri steak, mashed potatoes, and veggies. I tried the garlic shrimp and it was perfect. The beef patty for the cheeseburger is a little pink and undercooked, maybe next time we will ask for it to be well done. This place is going downhill super fast. Not sure who the manager and supervisors at the kitchen are of this location, but they are doing horrible job at it. For starters, they started serving mediocre amounts of chicken on the Moroccan chicken plate. I've given this place a chance a handful of times ordering this dish recently, and they keep serving less and less to the point that the meal simply feels like a taster sample. Whether it's been take out or at the store, they serve literally TINY little 6 pieces of chicken. Another thing I noticed, most of their red meat dishes and burgers are RAW. Eating raw ground beef is really dangerous. I don't understand. This place is just not a good option anymore. Mediocre foods and undercooked meats. Will start passing on it. read more

Urban Plates on Barranca is our go-to. We go there at least once a month. Food is good, quick, and as light or as heavy as you want it. My favorite is the Moroccan chicken braise and roast chicken with beets and Brussels sprouts. I also love the mango tart. There's a ton of variety and combinations. They also have a variety of wines, kombucha, and other drinks. Service is attentive. The restaurant itself has a relaxed vibe. Dogs are welcome in the patio. read more

was in the area and thought i would try it out. i got a cobb salad and added salmon. salad was very large in size. i literally ate it for lunch and dinner. u get a great bang for your buck here. i also ordered a side of mac & cheese. it was more like pasta with sauce. it was very light and not too heavy tasted very healthy. the only thing was i got the gingseng (sorry probably spelled it wrong) mint green tea. tasted like feet. plus it seems they didnt have sugar. only steevia fake sugar sweetener. my food also came out like strangely fast i wasnt expecting that. place is huge & clean and organized. ill come back read more

Following up from my earlier review from 02/13/2023! Both Joe and Kenton (General Manager) of Urban Plates Irvine followed up with me and sent me a $50 gift card for my next visit. Two days ago, I dined in with my family and ordered the steak salad, osso bucco, and salmon plate. Everything was cooked to deliciousness -- this time, the steak was medium rare as asked for, the lamb was savory (not gamey!), and the accompanying sides (tomato soup, mac&cheese, squash, asparagus) were a HIT with my wife and daughter. Huge thanks for making things right. Love this place! Special shout-out to Margaux for another cookie to-go, as well as Javier for keeping the areas extremely polished and clean. read more

Food has definitely gone downhill, portion sizes are much smaller, and just saw they increased their prices 30% while adding another 3% surcharge to every bill. Not worth it anymore. Too bad, I used to like this place. read more

As a first-timer, I really loved my experience. The sweet cashier, Margaux, was incredibly kind helping me customize my order with great recommendations. The food was just what I wanted. Great portion sizes without killing my wallet. Quality was awesome. Cook & presentation was much appreciated. There are a lot of seating options indoor and outdoor. I loved seeing solo diners with books (like myself), couples, families, and meeting groups both casual & professional. The customer service cleaning up was very attentive & efficient. I absolutely love this place! I came here with my fiancé, soon to step daughter and her boyfriend. They both eat vegetarian/vegan and I am gluten free and my fiancé is a carnivore. We all found something we loved on the menu. We bought a bottle of wine that was delicious! I can't remember the name but the price was very reasonable. You order at the counter and they bring you your food to the table. I love the decor, very modern and fresh looking. The portions aren't very big but I love how you get sides with the entrees to try a lot of different things. Everything was so flavorful, tasted fresh and not overly processed. We all loved our meal. We had to wait over 20 mins (for quick service?!?!), but unfortunately it was not worth the wait. I got the portobello mushroom sandwich which didn't have much flavor, so was very disappointed. My friend got the steak, which was very very rare and we had to send back. Also had to send back since we asked for the chimicurri on the side but they didn't do that. Then I noticed on the receipt THEY CHARGE EXTRA 3% SERVICE FEE. I hate it when restaurants do that!!! And they didn't have that posted anywhere that I saw either.
