Great food, good prices! Chill vibe! Santiago helped us this time around with our order, engaging and friendly. The employees are quick to help answer questions and otherwise look happy to be there. We both ordered the grilled steak plate with vegetables (carrots/beets) and rustic bread and a side salad to share. Everything was delicious! Steak was perfectly cooked, medium rare, like we prefer, veggies were a little overcooked but still tasty. I prefer them more crisp but hey..still good!! The bread was good, crispy too! Definitely a go to when you want healthier choices!

Loved the chicken Caesar salad wrap that I came back again to get it. Only issue is that they weren't consistent on the plate. The first time was super yummy I was raving about it on my social media but the 2nd time I ordered it, it was lacking. It wasn't as packed before and the presentation didn't look appealing as well lol. I attach my first pic and then a video for my 2nd time around. Everything else was yummy and wonderful. Just sad I didn't get the same experience I expected.

I got to hand it to this place, it's amazing. I got it through door dash so I could only image how much better it would be in store. Everything was genuinely so goood. I would order it again if it wasn't so expensive. The only thing I have to say is the strawberry drink, wasn't it, but the meat, that was perfection. Look at the DoorDash photos of this place, it's much more enticing, and the only reason I gave it a shot.

What a fresh and cute spot! We are from out of town and at th Tiki Oasis convention at Town & Country. We were searching for something fresh and unique and this restaurant fits just that! Everything is cooked from scratch, even the gluten free bread! Both my husband and I an absolutely delicious meal. The service was superb and everyone was so kind and friendly. Thank you Urban Plates! I am saving your location to come back to in the future.

Came for dinner with a friend, we showed up and there were 2 kiosks and 1 person working the register. A couple couldn't figure out the kiosk and the solo person working the register was busy taking orders, so with one kiosk moving, we had to wait maybe 15 minutes just to order at the kiosk. Which was somewhat irritating with the amount of DoorDash and pickup orders coming in and out of the only entrance where we were all waiting to order. I ordered the grilled chicken with chimchurri, herb roasted potatoes, and Moroccan chicken braise. My friend ordered the beef braise with mashed potatoes and a side of fries. Overall the food was okay, the potatoes were quite oily, and the mashed potatoes on the beef braise were lukewarm and cold in the middle. The braise itself was heavy on the red wine. I believe the side of fries was around $8 and the amount you get is definitely not worth the price. I get it's a healthier options restaurant, so portions may not be as big, but there are plenty of other healthier choice options in the area I would choose over this one.

    Yea, I'm not eating that.

With a heavy heart, I had to cross this location off my list. I love Urban Plates; it's my favorite casual dining restaurant. Every chance I get to have the steak salad and mango tart makes my heart do the "Hercules" dance. Look up the other San Diego locations, and you'll find my raving love song for this chain. Since the Mission Valley spot has opened, I've stopped by at least five times for lunch and picked up dinner on the way home from work for myself and my boyfriend. Unfortunately, every visit has had something wrong with my food. Once the mangos were old and soggy, and every other time, the steak was either overcooked or undercooked, just like it was during this visit (see photo). I've held out each time, hoping that the next visit would be great, but sadly, that hasn't been the case. I'll have to settle for the days when I can drive to the Carmel Valley or La Jolla location for my Urban Plates fix.

Been to this location twice. I've been following Urban Plates Instagram page for awhile and figured it's time to make a visit. My first visit was on a Sunday evening awhile ago. I wanted something fresh and light. I was eyeballing the Asian Chicken Noodle Salad- but changed my mind by the time I walked up to the cashier to order! Instead, I picked the Urban Salmon Caesar Salad & a bowl of tomato basil. And since I was still at the register mid order, a Strawberry Basil Lemonade seemed tasty to wash everything down with. And why not have the Mango Tart for a lil nibble and takeaway? I was satisfied with the comforting tomato basil. The buttery homemade croutons and buttered rustic bread were great to dip in. Perfect portion of the salmon and the leafy Romaine lettuce was coated with lots of dressing! (Not a fan when there isn't enough dressing). Some of the mango slices looked bruised and it didn't look appealing. Our second visit was a few days ago & we came on a Saturday during lunch time. Parking can be a bit hectic, but- you'll find something! It was a perfect day to utilize their huge shaded outdoor patio, since our current weather had us in the high 80s, for early March. We were lucky enough to find an indoor table to enjoy the air conditioning. With the busy weekend lunch rush, staff worked swift to bus empty tables & to remove empty dishes from occupied tables. I still had the intention of ordering the Asian Chicken Noodle Salad & changed my mind once I go to the cashier. Instead I went for the Braised Moroccan Chicken & mashed potatoes. This plate does come with a slice of rustic bread. And I figured, a cup of Seafood Chowder. The cup of seafood chowder had bits of mixed seafood (my cup had shrimp & I think langostino?) diced potatoes and other fine diced vegetables. I loved the thickened stew of the Braised Moroccan Chicken. However, as delicious as my meal from our second visit was- we shopped at Costco afterwards. And being that was the only meal to start off my day- something didn't agree with my tummy. I had to visit the Costco bathroom 4 times during our shopping trip. I

Updating my review because this was so incredibly lame. The Manager responded to my yelp review in under 24 hours and asked for an email yet were going on i believe a month and a half & no response. A big I don't care coming from this place. Don't recommend. Ever.

On my visits, this place has been good and consistent. We love that. I always recommend Urban Plates to friends when that "what should we eat for lunch" decision pops up. Urban Plates offers a wide selection of small bites and entrees ranging from protein packed plates to vegan options, plus desserts that actually taste good. There is something for everyone. For first timers the system might feel a little confusing because it is very different from your typical sit down casual restaurant. You start by ordering at the kiosk or with a cashier. The placement of the kiosks can create a buildup of customers toward the entrance though. During this visit one of the two kiosks was down so there was a bit of a wait. After ordering you grab a number from the basket next to the kiosk and enter that number into the kiosk to link it with your order. From there grabbing utensils, water, condiments, and napkins is all on you. Honestly I do not find this frustrating like some other reviews mention. I would rather grab what I need myself than wait for someone else to do it. It feels easier and more efficient which is exactly what Urban Plates provides. There is a lot of seating here. Outdoor patio seating and plenty of indoor tables as well. It also seemed like a hotspot for corporate lunch outings and takeout orders. Even with the amount of people dining in there was still enough seating for everyone. I invited a friend here to catch up and the environment was perfect for that. It is not too loud but not too quiet either, so it is easy to talk and catch up. We both ordered the chimichurri steak plate which comes with two sides. I chose mashed potatoes with gravy and tomato soup. My friend got mashed potatoes with gravy and a side salad. An employee dropped off my plate first and then hers about five minutes later. From the time we sat down it took about fifteen minutes to get both plates. I love the rustic bread they serve with each entree. It has a crispy crust with a chewy interior that is not dry at all. It paired perfectly with my tomato soup. The portions here are always fair. The steak plate is about $22 but it feels reasonable for the quality. Our steaks were both cooked perfectly and the chimichurri tasted fresh and very herbaceous. Both plates came with a generous scoop of mashed potatoes which is a plus!!! My tomato soup was still hot even after waiting a few minutes for my friend's plate. The croutons stayed crisp through the meal while soaking up some of that rich tomato flavor. In the past I have also tried their hummingbird cake and mango tart and both were amazing. This time I did not have room for dessert because the portions are generous, but I definitely recommend saving space. Their desserts feel more homemade rather than the overly sweet lava cake type desserts many restaurants buy from wholesalers.

I really wanted a fresh healthy lunch so we stopped here! I'm surprised at the price point, it was cheaper then I expected which was a huge plus. I got the ceaser wrap and my fiancee got the surf and turf with shrimp. My wrap was amazing! Everything fresh and still crunchy. My only gripe is the random tomatoes in it. My fiancee loved the mashed potatoes, but didn't like the gravy on it which I agree. The shrimp was seasoned and cooked great and the steak was surprisingly tender and juicy for the cut it was. A big downside to me was there was no self service soda machine and no server. So anytime you needed your free refill you had to go to the counter and wait until someone was available to fill your drink up. Extremely annoying. Overall good for the price! Will return.

It was the first time for me at this location, and it's was ok and unfortunately they underperformed. When we arrived we asked how to order and were given three options including someone coming to the table. We set down and chose that option, unfortunately no one ever came and I ended up going to the front to order. Food arrived in a timely matter. However, things were forgotten. I got up to ask where the gravy is for the mashed potatoes that she specifically asked if I wanted it with gravy. Then I got up to ask for the salad dressing that wasn't put on the salad. I ended getting up to ask for the bread etc. This wasn't enjoyable. In addition, portions were small. The kids meal had 8 fries on it - I wouldn't even be able to feed a 4y old with it! Everything was just enough. I left feeling still hungry and I don't eat much. I wouldn't come back here and cannot recommend it.

Super quick service! I placed my order from my car with an estimated time of 20 minutes before it was done, it was out in less than 10 minutes! Ordered: seafood soup, chickens chefs special, Caesar salad, braised beef chefs special. Seafood soup was SO good. It had a little bit of a spicy kick to it, but nothing overwhelming. Caesar salad is one of the best I've ever had! Packed with SO much flavor, perfect amount of dressing, incredibly delicious and fresh ingredients. The chicken dish for the chefs special was a bit underwhelming to me. Looked & smells good but was lacking flavor, it was quite watery. Braised beef chefs special was perfectly cooked & tasted so yummy.

It's a casual spot, but the food leans more chef-driven and thoughtful. We started with the breadsticks and truffle butter simple, but really well done. The crispy portobello mushrooms were one of my favorites, super flavorful with a great texture. For drinks, I had a margarita and a bloody mary, both solid. For mains, we ordered the tri-tip sandwich (aka "Cardiff Crack") and the chicken sandwich. The tritip especially lives up to the hype really tender, packed with flavor, and easy to see why it has that nickname. Dessert is what stood out so much . The butter cake comes warm with ice cream and purée, and it was easily the highlight of the meal. I took a bite and just paused for a second it's that kind of dessert Overall, a really good spot if you want elevated comfort food in a laid back setting. I'd definitely come back, especially for that butter cake and tritip

I learned that over 750+ book entries were received! Wow! At my table, I ended up meeting a librarian, a teacher and a publisher. The librarian was part of the selection committee and she suggested so many good books! She mentioned a book about octopus conversation in the atolls and my ears perked up. The book is Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler and its on my shortlist to read soon! Waiting for it on Libby! OK. back to the venue. He mentioned they'd course the dishes out, 2 at a time, ensuring each of the dishes were paired intentionally. Beet Salad From someone who's not easily impressed with vegetable-led dishes, this was delicious. This dish was visually vibrant, and the flavor mirrored that vibrancy. The beets themselves were stunningly soft, even juicy I'd say. It's root-y flavor was ever-present, but it never became unwelcome on the dish. "Fragrant" is another word we all used to describe the plate, with the fresh mint and succulent citrus fruit widening each our eyes. Sweet, savory, fresh and...creamy. This salad sat on top of a delightful carrot labneh, which provided a creamy element further elevating the dish. It brought a bit of tang to the salad that I appreciated. Finally, there was a crunchy detail (which we know I love) from intelligently included pieces of pastelli--a Greek treat made from sesame seeds and honey, and that sweet crunch fostered the table's excitement. Trust was firing on cylinders early, strong start. Hamachi Crudo Insane. I'm a big fan of the amount of flavor that's packed in such a delicate dish. Off rip, you're met with a visually exciting dish. Red, green, and purple from the thinly sliced pepper, cucumber, and radish pop right off the dish. Bright colors and exquisite execution, placed in a circle to match the shape of the dish, had each of us salivating. With the first taste, the crisp bite of fresh cucumber catches your senses immediately, and then subtly spicy, cream sauce. It was aguachile blanco--my first time having the blanco variant. The flavor was stupid, I struggled to describe it's uniqueness. The Mexican flavor profile was proliferated by fresh cilantro and thinly sliced radish, followed with a textured salsa seca. The light nature of the dish paired pristinely with the beet salad. Now, these next two dishes were an exciting 1-2 punch in showing you exactly what Chef is all about--that signature wood fire Wood Grilled Cauliflower I always eat my vegetables, but I rarely enjoy them. They're two for two in accomplishing that feat. In a bowl lined with curry, they served up a healthy helping of cauliflower that showcases its smokiness first. With that first bite, you taste the fire quickly, but what surprised me most was how soft each piece of the veg was. The curry and smoky flavor from the wood fire paired deliciously. Though, my favorite aspect of this delivery was the inclusion of raisins and fresh mint. This was a new combo for me, and it delivered. The sourness from the raisins and the cool, herbaceous qualities of the mint cut right through the charred flavor. A beautiful contrast. As we continued to dismantle the plate, there was a familiar flavor that we all recognized but couldn't identify. Maybe it was the serrano aioli or the black lentils. Either way, we all enjoyed this one. Wood Grilled Octopus This was a favorite of mine, but I was alone in that regard. While nobody disliked the dish, the table had mixed reviews. For me, this was perfectly cooked. The texture of the octopus was ridiculous with a cooking technique that created a crispy exterior while maintaining a tender bite. The smokiness didn't shy away here either. I mean damn. Most weren't a fan of the pepperoni, but fresh, ground meat added a rustic flavor pop that satiated my palate. It held that beloved pepperoni flavor, but this style allowed for it's flavor to spread across each bite. What made this dish unique from any other octopus I've had was the addition of castelvetrano olives and legumes. They both brought an interesting flavor and texture element that surprised me. Lastly, the salsa verde served as a perfect sauce, providing an element of moisture that complimented the charred features. Well done. After round two is when shit got real. Crab Fried Rice OH SHIT. WTF. One of the best rice dishes I've ever had. This is one we all wished was much much bigger. Despite the name, this dish includes chunks of incredibly juicy, wood-roasted lobster that there was never going to be enough of. The crab was shredded and could be found in each bite of plump rice, providing a pleasing flavor. Both a lemongrass emulsion and Thai chili were included, offering a wonderful duality of zest and spice. I thoroughly enjoyed the basil and cashew elements as they created some extra variety in flavor and texture. Not much else is needed for me to say, it's a must order. Char Sui Glazed Brisket OH SHIT. Back to back hitters, and they paired... We had some downtime before doors opened to our show at North Park Observatory…read more Hubby said we could kick it "at the restaurant in front of the Observatory ". First time to either, and we asked the security gal, "Is there access to the show inside from the Tavern or do we need to walk back out & around the building?" Since security explained there's access from inside we went thru the metal detector and had my purse searched. There was no tables available in the first room, so we weaved towards the main room where the bigger bar's located. Luckily for us, we snagged some barstools. With 10 items to choose from the menu, why not have fried potatoes served two different ways?! I mean, you can't go wrong with deep fried food. We got the Garlic Parmesan Fries and Patatas Brava. We sat at one of the bar's corners, towards access to the show. The bartender on that end didn't acknowledge us. He served the couple next to us, who already had his attention. But, thankfully the other bartender that seemed to navigate the entire bar area, took or food & drink menu. Plenty of TV screens w/ all sorts of sports going on. More tables towards the front, standing area. Vibe was chill at the Tavern before our Small Town Murder (podcast show) began. We stuck to our Patron Palomas. They were stiff. There's a watering station near the man bar and three Unisex bathrooms below. If you wanted to walk upstairs, additional bathrooms up there.

1M/10 Teleport, don't walk…read moreTruly the best food my boyfriend and I have ever had. I'm also a breakfast/brunch enthusiast so I was in heaven. We went for breakfast on my boyfriend's birthday and it was the highlight of our day so unfortunately nothing else compared the rest of the day The donuts came out first and made us speechless! The crust perfectly protects the light and fluffy inside and holds the maple icing beautifully! The bacon is crunchy and crispy and the perfect complimentary salty crunch to the soft warm dough. It's a unique mouth feel and you want to eat all 3. I recommend ordering them last The caramelized brie and braised duck skillet hash was so unique and delicious, we had never had something like that before. The meat was juicy and melted in your mouth with the brie and soft scrambled eggs. The bread was toasted a crisp golden brown and was the perfect vehicle for the hash. They came with a side which wow THE CRISPY POTATOES OMG they were one of our favorite bites. So herbaceous and topped with coarse flakey salt for a tasty balanced bite. By time we got to the french toast logs I was ready to tap out, but boy momma didn't raise no quitter and my man knows that applies to him as well so we did what we had to do. They're extremely dense, thick, and very filling so I would split with at least one other person. I slathered them bad larry's in whatever magical whipped butter they gave us and got to work. I had to be pried away from the plate and table and airlifted home because of how full I was, but I couldn't stop eating it. We had leftovers and they heated up decently, as well as the donuts! Neither got soggy from refrigeration or microwaving, so that was impressive!

Amazing prices for quality & generous meals! We both got the bacon waffle plate -- three pieces each of chicken tenders and bacon waffle with powdered sugar for $17. The chicken tenders were juicy, crispy, and not dry at all. A great meal and the place is ran by friendly folks. They were welcoming to our dog as well. I think we just found a good spot for chicken & waffles in town. Note: they are currently sharing the space with a sports bar so don't be shy to come in! Couldn't even enjoy the meal. Food was average. Did not justify the wait. Chicken wasn't even hot so why did it take so long and I'm not sure how these guys have such good reviews. Portions were awful as well for the chicken. I feel completely rinsed. Eggs potatoes and bacon were fine. Can't really mess those up. I understand that things happen but as a restaurant it is your responsibility to ensure that your guests are fed in a proper time frame. We had to pay first as well. So we were forced to wait. I would have left half way through if I could. Get your kitchen staffed or close your doors.

Ordering promptly at 5pm, our dinner arrived promptly and hot. I wanted to make sure we tried it all, so without further ado: The Poached Pear salad was delightfully refreshing, with the pistachio pesto adding so much pizazz. We also ordered the cheese plate because Humboldt Fog was on the menu, a fast favorite. Steak Frites were cooked to perfect medium rare, and the Duroc Pork Chop literally melted in our mouths, with the red pepper really standing out on the dish. Even the market veggies were perfectly seasoned and duck fat truffle fries were loved by Dad. After a life changing event, this meal was like a welcome hug home for our family and it really set us up for a nice evening.
