We ate here last week, and were very pleased. The service was great, and food was delicious. I had the turkey cranberry Brie sandwich, and it was fabulous. Sandwiches are good sized, but not monster big, which I appreciated, and I was able to eat the entire sandwich! My husband got the so cal chicken and loved it. Bread is fresh and I like not having to choose a bread, etc. The focaccia is made on site every day, the oven is right where you can see it.( the legitimacy of a review I read claiming it tasted "commercial" made me wonder if he really ate there.) The restaurant is very clean and we will definitely go back. I have made it a goal to try everything on the menu!! read more

10/10! I'm visiting El Cajon and placed an order for Urbane Cafe via Uber Eats. There was a bit of a mix up with my Uber driver picking up the wrong order from the restaurant, but the restaurant was SO helpful in trying to get it to me. I believe Sheryl (spelling?) is the restaurant employee to whom I spoke. The food is fresh and delicious, the menu has variety, and their customer service is top tier. Not sure what to eat, we stopped by the new places near Parkway Plaza. Unsure what it was all about, we walked in to Urbane Cafe and were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted at the door and handed a menu to look over. Everything looked and sounded good, and healthy as opposed to the heavy food at the near by burger joint. We went with the SoCal sandwich combo. It was perfect, and was just enough for a mid-day snack to split between the two of us. I see us frequenting this place more in the future. read more

The food here was really fresh. Very tasty. I have been searching the area for a good salad and could not find anything I liked. Here, it was incredible! Tasty and hearty. Local beets salad with miso salmon:. Everything about it was amazing! There was plenty of bulk in the salad in addition to the lettuce, love that! The beets were amazing, the fish portion was really plentiful! Tortilla soup and tomato soup: again: both were amazing. Great compliment to the salad we each ordered. The soup came with a piece of ciabbatta bread, which is nice when you are having mostly vegetables for dinner :) Santa Maria BBQ salad with tri tip: this is where it went wrong for us: my boyfriend was really in the mood for tri tip, we ordered to go and when we got home saw that it was chicken instead. He said it was tasty, but not what he was looking forward to. Customer service: amazing. They were very customer oriented at the store. I am sure that if we had pointed out their error at the store, they would have addressed it and fixed it immediately. It's too bad they did not review our order with us as we left the store, they could have caught their error that way and given us the meat that we had ordered instead of the wrong one. For the food, I wanted to give more stars... But for their error in our order, you just can't give your customer the wrong thing :( read more

I got the California and the Heath cookie....so good! The artichoke hearts were tender and delightful. The flavors worked well together. The bread was so soft! That was really my favorite part of the sandwich. Finding bread you like is hard especially on a sandwich and delivery on top of that, but it was really good! I would eat here again. I don't give 5 stars easily but this place is great. I got the chicken, pesto and sun dried tomatoes sandwich and it was delicious! I finally tried this place and really liked it. I ordered a chicken banh mi and it was very flavorful and came with a small side salad. They have unique beverages like blackberry lemonade. It's a bit spendy, especially when it's just a standard portion (no leftovers), but the ingredients seemed fresh and the bread is made right there. I'll be returning to try a veggie next time. You don't deserve good food if you don't love this place! 1st off THANK YOU my fellow yelpers for posting about this place. I was contemplating on what I wanted for lunch, but I couldn't think of a place which had delicious & healthy food near me. I decided to go to Yelp to help me make a decision. So glad I did. The pictures had my taste buds dancing. Once i arrived the staff greeted me with pleasantries. Now I'm even happier to be there. As I waited one of the staff told me about their app and rewards program. $3 off your 1st order & you gain loyalty rewards each time you come in. Little do they know I had already decided this was going to be my new favorite place. I decided on the Cilantro Chicken Torta soooooo gooooood! I order from here all the time, because the food is good and healthy, I always get a cookie as well. This is my fourth time coming here and my first time dealing with the cashier who I saw go back and forth to the stove to grab my cookie. One he forgot it the first time and then second he gave me a cookie that was burnt all the way through in the insides. This is ridiculous it's literally a cookie and if you have to be cheap and give your customer a burnt cookie for $2 then you no longer need my business. read more

I used to live by the one near the 5 and 8 interchange, and I'm so glad that there is one here just a mile down the street from me! The food is always fresh and super tasty, the employees always have a big smile and are super polite, and they work quickly to get your order done. Half the time when I come in a second employee looks over the shoulder of the person working the register so they can start making my order before I've even paid! Okay, what can I say? This place never disappoints for me. In El Cajon we don't have many options to eat clean or healthy. It's usually fast food all over the place. I am SO happy to eat here and have a healthy option that tastes A M A Z I N G! highly recommended not just for the food but all of the fantastic staff. They honestly are the highlight of coming here. Thank you guys for making it so special every time we come in. It's like they know exactly what we're craving every time we come in! Jaime is UNREAL with the customer service, he really hooks it up and always checks in on customers to make sure they're enjoying their food! Sabrina, wow! Love her! So far so good! First visit was a success! Had their chicken cilantro salad with their Turkey kale soup! The bread was warm and so soft, tastes great! I especially loved their salads many ingredients! I enjoyed seeing how much avocado I recjeved and how tasty the soup was!I cant wait to come back and try something else! The cookies were hot out the oven and looked delicious x I had to skip because I have a race this weekend however I was tempted!Their watermelon mint drink is so super yummy too! I enjoyed the energy and service I received from Vienna and the team she worked with when I visited Wednesday for lunch with a coworker. Well done at this new and tasty establishment! TERRIBLE SERVICE! This is the second or third time I've been here and me and other guests are literally waiting in the lobby to be addressed by one of the five or six employees and we are being completely ignored! Customer service is not that difficult people! A guess should be acknowledged within a minute or two tops and I'm patiently waiting for my order and then someone else comes in that's brand new ahead of the rest of us and she gets helped right away! Skip this place and go somewhere else and you'll get your food a lot faster and hopefully with better trained people. read more

I've gotten take out from here a few times in the last year, it's been great! I just got it today and the sandwich was great, nothing bad to say. BUT.... the reason I decided to bother going online and do a review?... The oatmeal raisin cookies! To start with, oatmeal raisin is my official favorite cookie ever. I've had a lot of good ones. History

Established in 2003.

It all started in 2003 when owner Tom Holt realized there was a missing niche in the Ventura restaurant scene. He wanted a great sandwich and salad, something different, while still being dedicated to delicious-tasting food. He understood that every great sandwich starts with the freshest of bread, so he designed the cafe around a hearth oven. Working with his friend Pete, they came up with a bread recipe that was soft, delicious and baked fresh, right in front of your eyes. It didn't stop there though, he created a menu centered around locally sourced ingredients, juicy-roasted meats, and crafted sauces to give each creation its own unique flavor. Urbane Cafe loves being the place where friends, family, and communities gather to celebrate and make memories over delicious food. Our passion is to have our guests walk out happy every time and keep them coming back for more.

Meet the Business Owner: Tom H.

Tom Holt is the owner, founder and Chief Bread Head of Urbane Cafe. As a young child Tom developed a love for motocross racing. His first career was at the age of sixteen when he became a professional motocross racer. In 2003, Tom Holt's vision was to bring a great-tasting, healthy, and affordable sandwich and salad restaurant to the friendly people of Ventura, California: a nice, small town where he grew up. Urbane Cafe quickly became the gathering place where people meet to engage, relax and enjoy a great meal at a great value. The success of that first location proved that Tom had struck a chord with the local community. Urbane Cafe is all family owned and has continued to expand since 2003 to multiple locations across California.
