I went here after shopping at the mall and wanted something close with vegetarian options. The service was fast and friendly, and the food came out quickly, although it was a little sloppy. I ordered the Bella Portobello sandwich and did not care for it or the bread, which should have been warmed or toasted. The salad was mediocre at best. My husband's soup was not hot, only barely warm, but he did enjoy his sandwich. The soup tasted good, just not at the right temperature. Overall, it was decent but nothing special. They need to tighten up those small details to create a more enjoyable experience.

We came here for a late lunch, looking for something light. I tried the salmon bowl which I loved! The bowl came with a quinoa mix, sweet potato, and edamame. The salmon was also a generous portion. I added some siracha to give it some spice, but I loved this dish and would order again! The cookies are also always so fresh, so don't forget to get one! The workers at this location I thought were very friendly and personable which made for a great experience.

Service was excellent. Super friendly. We ordered the antioxidant salad w/ steak, bbq chicken sandwich and the tri tip sandwich. The antioxidant salad was good. Ingredients were fresh. I liked the fennel and apple in it. The dried blueberries were good too. I like that the dressing comes on the side so you're able to control how much you add. Out of the 2 sandwiches - the tri tip sandwich was much yummier than the bbq chicken sandwich. I also thought it was nice that they include the total calories for each item.

My son wanted to eat at a place next to Urbane but I didn't want that so I stopped in for dinner. Decided on the Chimichurri Steak Sandi and It came with a mixed green salad with a balsamic dressing. Both the sandwich and salad were fresh and tasty. The beef was a bit bland though but nothing a little salt couldn't fix. They weren't busy but still took 15 minutes to get my order which is why it's four stars instead of five. Very limited seating but they have some tables outside.

After a fun early evening hosted by the city of El Cajon Police at the parkway plaza I was hungry! All that dancing to an 80s cover band had me working up an appetite! Mozied on over to UrbanCafe. Surprisingly it was empty at 8pm on a Tuesday. Staff was very friendly! Wanting to be healthy I ordered an ahi tuna salad to go and had a bag of honey Dijon potato chips - yep- they got me with an impulse buy! The chips were yummy but I was Dissappointed to see how expensive the small bag was at $2.99! The salsa was the perfect size. Not too much, not too little. I was even pleasantly surprised at the amount of ahi included. (I was concerned it wouldn't be enough!) The salad included avacado and a weird amount of it on the side. In all, I enjoyed the salad. Had the dressing on the side which worked well as I could also dip the bread in it. While I do think $18 for a salad and chips (no drink) iis expensive, I did enjoy the meal..

This was me and my man's first time here and it was an AMAZING EXPERIENCE ! We got recommendations from Colton nice kid very helpful and friendly this guy deserves a raise ! The ambiance was clean and a homey kind of feel. The food was AMAZING I can't get over how bomb the sandwich was and I'm so happy my man loved the salmon bowl he's allergic to dairy so this is the perfect place for us. I really appreciate you guys having so many GREAT DRINKS TO CHOOSE FROM. They got me and my man with the Shirley timple and the cucumber chili limonade OMG ! Fire!! I don't ever want to eat subway EVER AGAIN ! lol

This is my first time coming here and I know.. a little before they close :,) but despite that they all greeted me and made me feel welcomed. Colton is a very nice gentleman who was patient with me when I was deciding on what to get. He had a great attitude and an adorable smile! I got the Seared Ahi Tuna Bowl! So damn good! The perfect amount and flavor 9/10 :)

Not sure what to eat, we stopped by the new places near Parkway Plaza. Unsure what it was all about, we walked in to Urbane Cafe and were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted at the door and handed a menu to look over. Everything looked and sounded good, and healthy as opposed to the heavy food at the near by burger joint. We went with the SoCal sandwich combo. It was perfect, and was just enough for a mid-day snack to split between the two of us. I see us frequenting this place more in the future. read more

The food here was really fresh. Very tasty. I have been searching the area for a good salad and could not find anything I liked. Here, it was incredible! Tasty and hearty. Local beets salad with miso salmon:. Everything about it was amazing! There was plenty of bulk in the salad in addition to the lettuce, love that! The beets were amazing, the fish portion was really plentiful! Tortilla soup and tomato soup: again: both were amazing. Great compliment to the salad we each ordered. The soup came with a piece of ciabbatta bread, which is nice when you are having mostly vegetables for dinner :) Santa Maria BBQ salad with tri tip: this is where it went wrong for us: my boyfriend was really in the mood for tri tip, we ordered to go and when we got home saw that it was chicken instead. He said it was tasty, but not what he was looking forward to. Customer service: amazing. They were very customer oriented at the store. I am sure that if we had pointed out their error at the store, they would have addressed it and fixed it immediately. It's too bad they did not review our order with us as we left the store, they could have caught their error that way and given us the meat that we had ordered instead of the wrong one. For the food, I wanted to give more stars... But for their error in our order, you just can't give your customer the wrong thing :( read more

I got the California and the Heath cookie....so good! The artichoke hearts were tender and delightful. The flavors worked well together. The bread was so soft! That was really my favorite part of the sandwich. Finding bread you like is hard especially on a sandwich and delivery on top of that, but it was really good! I would eat here again. I don't give 5 stars easily but this place is great. I got the chicken, pesto and sun dried tomatoes sandwich and it was delicious! I finally tried this place and really liked it. I ordered a chicken banh mi and it was very flavorful and came with a small side salad. They have unique beverages like blackberry lemonade. It's a bit spendy, especially when it's just a standard portion (no leftovers), but the ingredients seemed fresh and the bread is made right there. I'll be returning to try a veggie next time. You don't deserve good food if you don't love this place! 1st off THANK YOU my fellow yelpers for posting about this place. I was contemplating on what I wanted for lunch, but I couldn't think of a place which had delicious & healthy food near me. I decided to go to Yelp to help me make a decision. So glad I did. The pictures had my taste buds dancing. Once i arrived the staff greeted me with pleasantries. Now I'm even happier to be there. As I waited one of the staff told me about their app and rewards program. $3 off your 1st order & you gain loyalty rewards each time you come in. Little do they know I had already decided this was going to be my new favorite place. I decided on the Cilantro Chicken Torta soooooo gooooood! The service was good and my sandwich was ok. I appreciate the vegetarian options. I got the Tuscan. The bread tasted bland and commercial to me. The veggies tasted good but the seemed slimy and cold. I think it would have been better served as a hot sandwich with toasted bread. read more

I order from here all the time, because the food is good and healthy, I always get a cookie as well. This is my fourth time coming here and my first time dealing with the cashier who I saw go back and forth to the stove to grab my cookie. One he forgot it the first time and then second he gave me a cookie that was burnt all the way through in the insides. This is ridiculous it's literally a cookie and if you have to be cheap and give your customer a burnt cookie for $2 then you no longer need my business. read more

I used to live by the one near the 5 and 8 interchange, and I'm so glad that there is one here just a mile down the street from me! The food is always fresh and super tasty, the employees always have a big smile and are super polite, and they work quickly to get your order done. Half the time when I come in a second employee looks over the shoulder of the person working the register so they can start making my order before I've even paid! This restaurant is doing everything right! I highly recommend this place! read more

Okay, what can I say? This place never disappoints for me. In El Cajon we don't have many options to eat clean or healthy. It's usually fast food all over the place. I am SO happy to eat here and have a healthy option that tastes A M A Z I N G! highly recommended not just for the food but all of the fantastic staff. They honestly are the highlight of coming here. Thank you guys for making it so special every time we come in. It's like they know exactly what we're craving every time we come in! Jaime is UNREAL with the customer service, he really hooks it up and always checks in on customers to make sure they're enjoying their food! Sabrina, wow! Love her! Sherryle has been taking care of me for years now since they've opened and I LOVE her. They're all so kind here and to know them by a first name basis is honestly a blessing. So far so good! First visit was a success! Had their chicken cilantro salad with their Turkey kale soup! The bread was warm and so soft, tastes great! I especially loved their salads many ingredients! I enjoyed seeing how much avocado I recjeved and how tasty the soup was!I cant wait to come back and try something else! The cookies were hot out the oven and looked delicious x I had to skip because I have a race this weekend however I was tempted!Their watermelon mint drink is so super yummy too! I enjoyed the energy and service I received from Vienna and the team she worked with when I visited Wednesday for lunch with a coworker. Well done at this new and tasty establishment! TERRIBLE SERVICE! This is the second or third time I've been here and me and other guests are literally waiting in the lobby to be addressed by one of the five or six employees and we are being completely ignored! Customer service is not that difficult people! A guess should be acknowledged within a minute or two tops and I'm patiently waiting for my order and then someone else comes in that's brand new ahead of the rest of us and she gets helped right away! Skip this place and go somewhere else and you'll get your food a lot faster and hopefully with better trained people. read more

I've gotten take out from here a few times in the last year, it's been great! I just got it today and the sandwich was great, nothing bad to say. BUT.... the reason I decided to bother going online and do a review?... The oatmeal raisin cookies! To start with, oatmeal raisin is my official favorite cookie ever. I've had a lot of good ones. History

Established in 2003.

It all started in 2003 when owner Tom Holt realized there was a missing niche in the Ventura restaurant scene. He wanted a great sandwich and salad, something different, while still being dedicated to delicious-tasting food. He understood that every great sandwich starts with the freshest of bread, so he designed the cafe around a hearth oven. Working with his friend Pete, they came up with a bread recipe that was soft, delicious and baked fresh, right in front of your eyes. It didn't stop there though, he created a menu centered around locally sourced ingredients, juicy-roasted meats, and crafted sauces to give each creation its own unique flavor. Urbane Cafe loves being the place where friends, family, and communities gather to celebrate and make memories over delicious food. Our passion is to have our guests walk out happy every time and keep them coming back for more.

Meet the Business Owner: Tom H.

Tom Holt is the owner, founder and Chief Bread Head of Urbane Cafe. As a young child Tom developed a love for motocross racing. His first career was at the age of sixteen when he became a professional motocross racer. In 2003, Tom Holt's vision was to bring a great-tasting, healthy, and affordable sandwich and salad restaurant to the friendly people of Ventura, California: a nice, small town where he grew up. Urbane Cafe quickly became the gathering place where people meet to engage, relax and enjoy a great meal at a great value. The success of that first location proved that Tom had struck a chord with the local community. Urbane Cafe is all family owned and has continued to expand since 2003 to multiple locations across California.

I don't think I've ever encountered a cashier who is as efficient and personable as Skyler. From the moment you walk in, Skyler greets you with a smile and makes you feel right at home. She is incredibly patient and takes the time to answer any questions you may have about the menu or the specials of the day. And let me tell you, she knows the menu like the back of her hand!
