I'm quite surprised at how good this place taste. It's a corner bakery/panera, but the sandwich might actually taste better. They use flat bread, so it's kind of "healthier". I went with the cobb salad, they used spring mix instead of iceberg lettuce. It has a nice mix of variety of things. The thing to note is the chicken is VERY moist! Surprisingly. I also tried other sandwiches my family order, all of them tasted different and pretty delicious. read more

Very prompt service and extremely friendly staff. The salads here are amazing, but its their signature bread that will make you a regular. Best time to show up for lunch is anytime after 1pm otherwise it gets pretty busy read more

My absolute sandwich place in oxnard! Before I would make drives up to Ventura just to eat at the urban cafe their. But I am so glad they opened one in oxnard. Food here is always great though the service is terrible and the workers don't do their jobs. I've ordered for curbside pickup several times and every time I do no order is ever brought out to me. I call and never get an answer, I click the "I'm here" button in their emails and nothing. I have thought well maybe my order just isn't ready yet but I have waited well over 15 minutes after my order was estimated to be ready. I always have to end up getting down myself to get my order. I have went in and let them know I had an order for curbside and they only ever point to their pick up rack and tell me to get it. They shouldn't give the curbside pickup option if they are not going to actually do the service. read more

I've been eating at Urbane for a small while. It's great, but a little expensive. The flavors are really thought through and tasty. Small complaints: the chicken can be a tad on the dry side. And the salad SUCKS! Too bitter and not crisp! Also, I want more original choices for drinks than lame fountain drinks, as to compliment their original tastes. That said, the tastyness of the sammy more than makes up for these shortfalls. read more

Was in Oxnard and was craving a great cold sandwich. My cousin suggested we meet up at Urban Cafe. I am always up for trying a new place so I was up for it. I was not feeling to exciting so I just ordered a typical turkey. I must say I was impressed for the price. It was YUM! And the salad that came with it was great. I enjoyed the staff which we're very friendly and asked all the right questions (mustard? mayo?) and they did not mess up on my light mayo pickyness! Hah! I came to Urbane Cafe in Oxnard on a whim since I was on travel for work and needed dinner. Staff was super friendly and helpful. I had the BBQ Chicken Salad with goat cheese. It was fantastic! The iced tea was great too. Everything was super fresh tasting. I only wish there was one closer to home (Cerritos). We need more salad/healthier options in our neighborhood. This is a place that has food I could eat every dang day and not get tired of it. I'm in love with their Californian sandwich, which is a vegetarian sandwich. It comes with a side of salad and the house vinaigrette the sandwich itself has artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, avocado and other goodness. I ordered online so I would just walk past the line of folks waiting to order. Found out the order in place had 2 sandwiches...oops ( I must have been hungry) but the guy handing the orders out was nice and didn't hesitate to cancel one and refund me the cash, even though it was my error and they were really busy. I was really hesitant to go to this restaurant because the location is in one of the busiest intersections in Oxnard, and it looks like a chain, and just the fact that is next to Walt Mart (makes it feel less urban) But anyways, Since I work a block away and I was craving a sandwhich, I gave up and went to try this restaurant. for $7 tax included, I got a pastrami sandwhich and a small salad. Yes it was worth it. The meat was good, the vegetables were fresh, the bread was exceptional. So this is where all the Oxnard crops go to (who knows). Either that or I was hungry. I love Urban Cafe sandwiches and cookies. I either choose the Pesto Chicken or Santa Barbara BBQ Chicken sandwich. The bread makes the sandwich, delicious focaccia. I should eat the salad, but I trade it for chips. I usually save my chips for another day since I always pick up a chocolate-chocolate cookie. Its warm and freshly baked. I placed my order through GrubHub. I placed exactly what I wanted and when I received my food I didn't get what I ordered. I called them I got yelled at by Noemi. She told me it was my fault so I said OK my bad. I hung up and looked at my receipt and realized she was wrong. She didn't even call me back to let me know she was wrong but when I called back she let me know she was wrong and she told me the only thing she could do was give me a free bag. I'm allergic to vinegar and tried to explain it to her but she told me it wasn't her problem. I also tried to speak to the manager Chris who also didn't seem to care. I effin love this place..... really I do! I ate here 3 times last week if that means anything to you and each time I got the same thing. The southwest chicken sandwich. Delicious bread fresh out of the stone oven, chicken, chipotle sauce, black beans, corn, avacado and melted cheese along with their equally yummy side spring salad, topped with feta cheese and mandarin orange slices! Enough about the product- I'm sure you catch my drift! The staff is friendly! Service is pretty quick. Parking is easy. You can eat inside or outside. What more do you want out of a $8 meal???? Great turkey and brie sandwich. Loved the pesto chicken sandwich. Best thing about both is that they were nicely dressed. I really dislike a dry sandwich. Also the focaccia bread for the sandwiches is really soft and tasty. Salad that comes with it had too many fancy greens for me. Luckily they swapped it out for romaine which I appreciated. Dressings for the salad were homemade. Also had a delicious red velvet cookie. Only drawbacks: It's freezing in there!!! Had the bang mi chicken sandwich. It was quite good. The only reasons I didn't give five stars is because bread is not French style and price a bit high. Although inspired by Vietnamese, it isn't authentic. It omits quite good nonetheless. It seems like a California spice becoming more and more common is an orange sauce that reminds me a Spiracha and Thousand Island dressing mixed. read more

Cozy little lunch spot nearby many other places. Rosemary chicken sandwich was quite good, bread was very good. Side salad that comes with it is simple greens with gorgonzola, kinda plain but not bad. Everything is obviously geared toward a healthy menu and quality ingredients. LOVED EVERYTHING!!! We have started yelping with my Dad - he says "find me something on that computer thing... how about a burger?" and we found Urban Café. Mmmm.... it was so good! We ordered burgers and salads. All were delicious and made to order. :) Cons: Huge line to order. You may not want to come if you are in a rush or prefer to be served. I love healthy food and this place is the epitome of that! Their food is fresh, tasty and perfectly portioned. I generally go here for lunch when I'm up in the area. Love this place for a quick lunch when I'm here for work. I come pretty much every time I'm in town. I usually get their BBQ chicken salad with chipotle ranch and I can say it's delicious every time. It's still served with a piece of their focaccia bread which is fire baked and served want and is quite delightful. Today I ordered the southwest chicken sandwich which has chicken, black bean and corn salsa, avocado, pepper jack, and chipotle aioli. I thought it was just Eh. Got a side salad served with it. I'll definitely be going back to my salad of choice next time, but I'm glad I branched out! My boyfriend got the pesto and sundried tomato sandwich, I tried a bite and it was yummy! Way better than my sandwich. The pesto flavor was awesome. Their desserts look amazing, I try to avoid sugar so I haven't tried one, but a lady did come in while we were there and bought just desserts. Jealous! They are quick with serving food which is awesome when you're starving. The ambiance leaves a little to be desired because of people rushing around, outside is pretty nice though. History

Established in 2003.

It all started in 2003 when owner Tom Holt realized there was a missing niche in the Ventura restaurant scene. He wanted a great sandwich and salad 'Äì something different, while still being dedicated to delicious-tasting food. He understood that every great sandwich starts with the freshest of bread, so he designed the cafe around a hearth oven. Working with his friend Pete, they came up with a bread recipe that was soft, delicious and baked fresh, right in front of your eyes. It didn'Äôt stop there though, he created a menu centered around locally sourced ingredients, juicy-roasted meats, and crafted sauces to give each creation its own unique flavor. Urbane Cafe loves being the place where friends, family, and communities gather to celebrate and make memories over delicious food. Our passion is to have our guests walk out happy every time and keep them coming back for more.

Meet the Business Owner: Tom H.

Tom Holt is the owner, founder and Chief Bread Head of Urbane Cafe. As a young child Tom developed a love for motocross racing. His first career was at the age of sixteen when he became a professional motocross racer. In 2003, Tom Holt'Äôs vision was to bring a great-tasting, healthy, and affordable sandwich and salad restaurant to the friendly people of Ventura, California: a nice, small town where he grew up. Urbane Cafe quickly became the gathering place where people meet to engage, relax and enjoy a great meal at a great value. The success of that first location proved that Tom had struck a chord with the local community. Urbane Cafe is all family owned and has continued to expand since 2003 to multiple locations across California.

I would've like nori crisp but that's ok. Service- One server was taking care of the lunch crowd. The owners are Thai, and I believe the server is also Thai. She was quite polite. Usually I think most Thai restaurants offer that super kind, and humble service to customers. (I say this as Korean Ame, it's noticeably different than immigrant run Korean or Chinese or Vietnamese restaurants) I do prefer the taste of Silverlake Ramen, BUT they have even more limited seating. The parking and access here is easier and quicker than going to the Collection Annex, so I think this is another solid Ramen place. We let the group pass us and entered the restaurant. We were promptly seated at a corner table and given menus. It did take a bit for the server to come back to take our order, but we did realize we came in 1/2 hour before closing, so we eased off a bit. My partner order the hot pot and was very happy with his choice. The server came back with a hot plate and instructed us how to cook the meat. I was a bit apprehensive about having to cook my own food, but the fragrant smell as it cooked changed my mind. The broth was flavorful and the veg and meat were tender as they soaked up the soupy goodness. I also ordered the boa buns and the pillowy texture, mixed with the soft pork and crunchy cucumber and carrots made my belly sing. We slurped up our food and cleared out as quickly as we could. I hate being that person that lingers at closing time. What I do regret is that I did not take more time at their counter as we exited because it was full of snacks and curios that I love. Next time for sure!

It also doesn't provide that traditional hotpot experience which I find much more enjoyable. However in VC options are limited, so when I saw Tasty Pot recently opened I was quite ecstatic! There were 12 different pots and 5 spicy levels to choose from. Pot numbers 1-7 were smaller size and numbers 8-12 were larger size pots. Except for the Healthy Veggie pot, all the soup base was pork broth. Most of the pots also had very similar ingredients, the difference I could see were the main protein choice and soup flavor. They also have another menu for rice and noodle options if you didn't want to do the personal pots. We got the Taiwanese Supreme in mild and the Seafood Lobster in medium. We also got a side of quail eggs. The pots arrived with a candle of some sort below to keep it hot. Both pots were of the larger size and filled with lots of food. The mild was the perfect level of spicy for me, a hint of spice that does not overpower the original flavor of the ingredients, rather it enhanced each one and made it more tasty. Service was good, our server came by frequently to check on us and to refill the soup. At one point the flame under the pot had already gone out but we hadn't cook the noodles so we requested another flame. We were told they had to bring the pot back to the kitchen to heat it up. So I guess the flame was there to just keep the pot warm rather than actually cooking. Although this cannot compare to the traditional hotpot, this personal hotpot is still a very good option and helps to satisfy my craving.
