In San Marcos on business. So glad we came here for dinner. Customer service was great. Food was all so delicious! Best part is there is one close to home.

Seared Ahi Tuna Bowl - so fresh and delicious !
    Faye L.

I had a meeting in Vista and the office ordered UC for everyone. It had been YEARS since I tried UC . The one and only visit was (I think) for a Yelp event where I tried a sandwich (it was ok). This time I tried the Ahi Bowl and was surprised how much I loved it! I usually modify items (I don't eat rice or radishes) but this bowl in itself was a great way to finally try a bowl here at UC. THe ahi portion was generous! I was shocked the bowl was under $15 (I thought it was $20) as the quality of the seared ahi was ridiculously fresh. The combination of the kale, edamame, sushi sauce drizzle just hit the spot with the ahi tuna. The side dressing was also delicious. I loved this dish so much that I ordered another ahi bowl today but from the Mira Mesa location. The portion size and quality of the ahi wasn't as good as the bowl I had from San Marcos though . So kudos to this location for making such a great bowl (I'd 100% come back and ask if I can sub the rice for extra kale next time).

Another go-to place of mine since they have vegetarian options! FOOD 5/5 Tofu Banh Mi Served in fire-baked focaccia bread with roasted tofu, cucumbers, pickled carrots, pickled white radish, sweet chili aioli. Tip: if you don't like too much spice like me, I remove the cilantro and Fresno chili. 5/5 chocolate chip cookie Perfectly made and chocolate melts when you pull it apart. I'd suggest getting one per person because they're too good to share. PARKING dedicated lot, not street parking AMBIANCE Clean area with all the tables bussed and wiped down. They have multiple tables of different sizes.

We wanted something light, hearty, and fresh. And somewhere to sit inside with air conditioning. LOL Looked up their menu online before our visit and still debated between a salad or bowl. Plenty of parking at Creekside Marketplace. There are touchscreens at the counter to place orders or you can opt for real customer service. Since I had some questions, we opted for the latter option. I decided on the Crunchy Peanut Salad and the Cucumber Chili Limeade. Before my payment, there's a variety of cookies available right next to the register. When the oatmeal raisin cookie was handed to me, I instantly felt the warmth from the sleeve. It caught me off guard! I asked the employee if the cookies are displayed on a warm slab/ shelf- and she smiled and said YES! (I must be living under a rock). This is the first time I've seen this! How cool! The Crunchy Peanut Salad was everything I hoped it to be (minus the automatic digestive cleansing provided from the spinach in the mixed greens ). Sliced marinated cilantro chicken; mixed greens; coleslaw mix; cucumbers; julienne pickled carrots; edamame; crispy onions (another great option to add CRUNCH to salads!); mandarin oranges (best low key sweet factor); and honey roasted peanuts. The dressing was very light fare. Wish I remembered exactly what it was. A tad citrusy/ ginger/ sesame oil? Salads are served with a piece fresh soft baked bread. My refreshing drink was a tad spicy but sooooo refreshing. We dined and hung out for 2.5 hours inside. Between great conversations and me slowly enjoying my meal- we were not rushed at all.

    Curbside pickup

I was heading out of town for the weekend, and there just so happened to be an Urbane Cafe that was on the way to where I was going. I became a fan of Urbane Cafe when one opened close to me earlier this year, and I remember from an email earlier this year that this location had opened recently as well, like a month or two afterwards. Urbane Cafe in San Marcos is located in Creekside Marketplace just off the 78 freeway. If you're coming from that freeway, take the San Marcos Blvd exit, head west, take a left on Grand, and then another left into the marketplace. Since this location is new, you probably won't see it on Google Maps/Streets, but just know that it's on the other side of the parking lot from Best Buy where Applebee's used to be. I came on a Friday early afternoon for lunch, and I placed my order in the app. When I got out of my car, I almost thought I was in the wrong place because the address number didn't match the number I saw on the front door, so I had to ask a team member if this was the correct location. She seemed a little annoyed that I even asked, which wasn't exactly the warm welcome I was looking for. However, it was real busy inside, and they were cranking out order after order after order after order. Still, maybe less condescending next time? There was another employee stationed close to the online orders, but she was also attending to the numerous customers, both inside and outside. When my order was ready for pickup, another customer was looking at the online orders for his order, which wasn't there, but mine was. This was about 2 minutes before my scheduled pickup time, so I'm not sure when exactly my order was ready. I went to the rear counter to get a fork since I didn't see one initially, but the only utensils they had were knives. Luckily, the second employee was nearby, and I asked her where the forks were. She went to go get one for me. After she got me a fork, I finally found the fork inside my bag that was intended for my order. Oops? lol There wasn't an empty table inside, but there were a few tables outside in the hot sun. A couple tables had some shade, but I sat at a table without shade since I'd rather other customers, like an elderly couple who arrived while I was eating, sit in the shade instead. Yeah, it was hot, but at least the table was clean enough for me to enjoy my lunch. What did I order? The Salmon Bowl, which also happened to be my very first order at my local Urbane Cafe. This Salmon Bowl, while still tasty and recommended by yours truly, could have used a little more flavor, but there was enough that I didn't have to use any sriracha sauce, which I was almost prepared to use after my last visit to a different location. Everything tasted fresh from the kale to the rice, but I do think they were quite liberal on the sweet potatoes. The focaccia bread did have the flavor I was looking for, but I felt it was baked a little too long in the oven since the top was much more crispier/crunchier than I was expecting. So consistency still isn't quite there, even on Urbane's signature bread, but this one passed the test. During the wait for my order, I grabbed a water cup and tried to get a cup for the Cholula hot sauce. Not much came out, so I tried to get another cup for the Sriracha hot sauce. However, the larger cups, which have concavity on the bottom, got stuck, so I ended up with two larger cups of Sriracha instead. Oops again? lol but the little hot sauce I extracted from the bottle went well with the focaccia bread. The same team member who seemed annoyed at my first question was gracious enough to hold the door for me and other customers sluggishly making their way into the cafe. Suddenly, it felt like Jekyll and Hyde lol. I was a little pleasantly surprised at this gesture even though I was taking my time grabbing a takeout and catering menu by the front door, so kudos for that at least! Since it was real busy during lunchtime, none of the employees checked up on me while I was eating, but I can't really expect them to when the interior was completely packed. They were working assiduously to feed many a hungry customer; I could definitely sense the hustle and overall diligence in the San Marcos team from the front to the back of the house. They try to provide extra mile service, but I felt it was closer to extra kilometer instead if that makes sense. In spite of the shortcomings, which others may understandably interpret as subtle, it's a decent Urbane Cafe that I'd recommend stopping by if you live in or close to San Marcos. I personally won't be back to this location since it's two county borders away lol, but I appreciate the opportunity to try another recently opened location while I had the chance. The bump ticket on my takeout bag, however, was quite filthy. How about a cleaner copy next time, please?

Kid's Meal: Turkey Sandwhich with Fruit (I ate the other half of the sandwhich lol)
    Brianna L.

I'm a fan of this chain restaurant and this location was great too. The inside was so nice and clean. I also enjoyed the outdoor seating. The food is good quality and gives you what you'd expect. I really enjoyed that this location had kiosks to order. It made ordering super easy and quick. Pros: * Good Sandwiches; recommend the Kid's Turkey meal with fruit. When I'm not in the mood for all the Aiolis and spreads, it's simplicity shines. * Easy ordering in the kiosk * Quick food service * Clean and nice inside Cons: * N/A Extra: * Yes, adults can order the kids meal (No age limitations here which I appreciate!) * Plenty of parking

Urbane Cafe in San Marcos is out to go when we are in a rush and craving something healthy and nutritious. Today we decided to try out the ahi tuna as well as the antioxidant salad and as always is it was delicious. 2nd their customer service is always on point, everyone is super friendly and sweet. Today I was struggling with my self check out order, immediately one of the cashiers reached to help out and Joe is also superb! Love this place

    Cilantro Chicken Salad.

Always so fresh and delicious. So glad they opened this one in San Marcos. Was running to Encinitas to get my salad fix but closer now. Yummy.

Another place to get soup , salads, sandwiches at a premium. Honestly it's hard to recommend with the prices, if they were offered at a lower price I would consider but it's hard to justify paying so much for soup/salad/sandwiches. Portions are tiny but not as bad as Panera portions/pricing.

After eating far too much junk on my vacation, my body needed healthier options. Both of these are delicious.

Food quality is good. Very disappointed in the inconsistent portion size though. I got a salmon bowl a few months ago and it was great. Today I got the same thing and the piece of salmon was maybe 1/3 of what it is in the picture. Seems to be a problem that occurs often based on other reviews. Had high hopes in coming back to this place, but now I doubt if it's worth it to return.

I loved their Bahn Mi sandwich. They use fresh ingredients! Staff is very friendly. The restaurant is super clean! I can't wait to try the rest of their extensive menu.

Why did I come here?…read more With a hunger for mediterranean and the worry that nearby Aria may be a bit too pricey for a quick meal, I brought my son out to The Pita Guys for some gyro or shawarma. What we found were limited options, higher than expected prices, less than helpful staff, and not the best of food. Being my first time, I had questions about the menu. The young pair behind the counter didn't seem to know what they were serving, as they kept looking at one another for guidance with little ability to give me much relevant info on anything other than what types or protein they had. Once I finally ordered, they started to taking and filling the orders of people behind me. It wasn't until a much older woman came in from the back before my own dinner started being prepared. Seriously, it was a pretty weird setup. The food was served Subway style, where they go down the line asking what you wanted added to your wrap. Shawarma meat is minced, staying warm in a tub, and scooped to order by a spoon resting in a bin of cloudy water. Not only did it feel a bit gross, but it also seemed that the bulk of the juice in the meat came from that watery spoon, as the shawarma I ate was very dry. When it came to my son's Shawarma Plate, the menu stated that it came with two sides. What they don't tell you is that the only choices on the 'sides' menu open to you are Hummus and a Salad. The much more desired sides of Falafel, Baba Ghanoush, or even kid friendly Fries, were not offered. Needless to say, my son ate his chicken and rice, but wouldn't touch his hummus. So, a Shawarma Plate and a Shawarma wrap ... dinner for two, not a ton of food, neither of us were all that impressed ... and it cost us over $40. Needless to say, with how everything tasted and what it took to get ... we won't be coming back. For the price it cost us, I think we'll stick with the far superior Aria up the street. Or, at the very least, try the Kebab Shop down the block.
