We finally tried this place, and we liked the food a lot but we had a few issues. If they are going to only do take out, it's important to try to get the orders correct. We had an order for 4 of us, and 3 things were missing .... a salad dressing, a side of fruit, and the dipping sauce for the bread. Overall we all liked the food -- the salads were fresh, the bread was delicious, and the sandwiches were great. But there should be a little more quality control when making sure every item in the order is packed up. It was disappointing to get all the home and then discover our missing items. I found out about this place in high school and now a junior in college it still continues to be a go to spot every time I go home. Their sandwiches are really fresh and super yummy. I definitely recommend the southwest chicken sandwich. Its a little spicy, which is what I love. All their sandwiches come with greens on the side with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I always love Urbane Cafe. It's a nice chain store in Ventura County. I ordered lunch for curbside pick up today. Food was good as usual though the portion size was smaller compared to the past. This takes away the five star rating unfortunately. Price went up a bit too. Their own app was excellent. Curbside pick up option was not a true curbside pick up like some other stores. They asked about my car model and color but it turned out that my food was sitting on a shelf by the store entrance. Really thankful for online order. Easy to use and easy to pick up. Urbane Cafe never gets old. I could eat there every day and love it just the same. My go to's are The Californian sandwich (vegetarian) , So Cal, and the turkey Club although I do miss their honey mustard that used to be on it years ago. I usually add some chipotle aïoli to give it an extra pop of flavor. My favorite salad is the BBQ chicken with chipotle ranch. We love their Chipotle ranch and always get an extra side to dunk our sandwiches in. My sons favorite in the steak chimichurri . I'm so disappointed in this location in recent years. Something needs to be done about this. I understand that it's covid and things aren't great right now but man. Tonight's group was a bunch of grumps with a messy floor and orders took forever. They didn't greet a guy waiting to order for like 12 minutes. A lot of my coworkers love this place and highly recommend me to give the place a try. I'm not a huge sandwich person so it took me a considerably amount of time to give a thought to trying the place out. Came and ordered take out. Not a very large selection on the menu, but each selection is pretty unique by their own account. Definitely makes you reconsider which one you really want to try. Each order comes with a focaccia bread sandwich with their respective type of meat, and a side of salad with balsamic vinegar dressing on the side (not sure if they offer other dressing). I got the rosemary chicken sandwich with a side of salad. The sauce and condiment fillers in the sandwich has a very nice complimentary taste profile. The chicken isn't very salty, the chicken didn't taste like it was mass-produced/frozen, the rosemary didn't over power the sandwich, and the focaccia bread has a very nice texture. Overall, it is a nice sandwich. The only angst I have is the amount of chicken in the sandwich. One side of the sandwich had almost all the meat and the other side had the leftover pieces from the designated amount a sandwich should have. Kind of wished it was more proportional, but it's still a minor thing. Not truly converted to being a sandwich lover, but the focaccia bread does make me want to go again and try something else. Side-notes: having the buzzer system is very nicely and convenient. Ordering online helps and I do think doing so is better than going in during the lunch hour. The food is delicious but the customer service needs a lot of work. Every single time we go in to pick up food they make a mistake and we have to wait 25 minutes longer. Not once or twice which is understandable, EVERY SINGLE TIME. The wait time is another problem, I live right down the street so when you say 15 to 20 on my way there in 17 minutes. I get there and the first sandwich isn't even made.. Frustrating. My family and I (5 orders in all) call in an order and the call center representatives repeat the order perfectly but when we get there to pick it up one of each persons order is incorrect. Then they blame it on the call center which is false because they repeat it back to us flawlessly. The call center is even baffled because they can see our past orders and they are the same every time! EXAMPLE 1. My family and I called in our food, the employee making our food had a question about our order but didn't bother to call us back or make any of the other orders. We show up 15-20 minutes as they estimated and still had to wait for them to make EVERYTHING (5 orders) in front of us because he wasn't sure if wanted we wanted aioli on ONE sandwich.. EXAMPLE 2. I ordered a Bella Portobello sandwich in person and asked for extra mushrooms to which the lady responded "what kind of mushrooms?" Mind you, no other mushrooms come on it besides portobello so portobello.. She was still confused and gave me the most dirty look you can give a person lol. EXAMPLE 3. On my salad I chose an Italian dressing which was on the receipt. A man then asked me if I wanted Italian dressing on my salad or if it was Italian chicken.. ON MY MEATLESS PORTOBELLO MUSHROOM SANDWICH? ‍ Even if it is "the call centers fault" I see employees making many mistakes and throw away orders multiple times whether it's a problem with the salad or sandwich.. I have always loved the food but the service has been awful lately. I had called when I left my house in Oxnard and was driving to the Ventura location. I was put on hold. I arrived at the location and was still on hold so I placed my order through the app. I was able to see the workers talking and not assisting anyone. I stayed on the line because i was curious to see when they would notice i was still on hold. About 5 minutes after arriving (i've been on hold for a total of 25 minutes), they took me off hold and then hung up. Thankfully i had already ordered on the app, but what if I hadn't? Upon walking into Urbane Cafe I found that I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I feel that the lighting and the way the tables are set up make for a very friendly and nice arrangement. I am still confused, as I have gone there many times and don't understand whether or not it is pronounced Urban[e] Cafe or Urbane Cafe, enunciating the E at the end of Urbane. There was a specific time that I went there and there was dirt in my friends salad so as a result they gave me and my friends all free cookies. I usually stop by here and grab a quick bite to eat when I am about to drive back home to San Diego. The sandwiches are really light and come with a house side salad topped with mandarin oranges and feta cheese. The homemade focaccia bread is probably what makes the sandwich extra delicious with its golden brown exterior. I've tried the Pesto & Sundried tomato (Grilled Chicken, Pesto, Sun Dried Tomatoes,Green Leaf Lettuce, Mozzarella Cheese, Pesto Mayonnaise), the Grilled Portobello Mushroom (Fresh Tomato, Basil, Mozzarella Cheese, Aioli Sauce), and my personal favorite the Italian Chicken (Grilled Chicken, Basil, Fresh Tomato, Mozzarella Cheese, Aioli Sauce). All of which were fantastic and I've never been disappointed. I also recommend the Cream of Artichoke soup that comes with a side of bread as well. I have yet to try some of the salads, but from what I have seen the portions are huge and as an added bonus they also come with a side of their homemade bread too! Even though the name of this place is unimaginative, the sandwiches and portions make up for that. As a sandwich connoisseur I feel I'm pretty judgmental with sandwiches... Without the right bread the sandwich can never be great. I dropped by here based on previous reviews for a quick bite during jury duty (chose this place over Panera, which I also like), and was pleasantly surprised. Ordered the pesto chicken and dried tomato sandwich and loved it. Bread was fresh, lightly browned on the inside, sauces were amazing, chicken was slightly over done but for a rush hour lunch I couldn't have done it any better. Highly recommended. To top it off, the guy who took my order (the line was at least 10-12 people out the door), saw me eating about 20min later, came over, addressed me by name (gave my name when I placed the order), and asked how my food was.
