I can't get enough of this place! New to the area as for November 2018, and I've been here more times than I can remember. Everything is always fresh, made-to-order, and delicious. Even the clam chowder was mouth watering! My very first meal prompted an email of thanks to customer service. It was that good. I had a tattoo appointment in Ventura, and got to town about 30 minutes early. I was famished, and as anyone that has tattoos will tell you, getting ink on an empty stomach...not a good idea. Gotta grab a quick bite. I had scoped this place out on an earlier trip, but hadn't had a chance to try it. Driving by I saw no line. Score. Jump out of the truck and run inside. I like that they have multiple vegetarian items to choose from. I settle on a roasted bell pepper sandwich with a side salad. They hand me one of those light up, coaster shaped buzzers like you get at cheesecake factory. Interesting. Never seen that at a fast(ish) food place. I walk in the restroom to wash my hands and my buzzer is going all "disco lights" on me before I am done with the dry cycle. Grab the sandwich and make a beeline for a small table in the back. First the salad. The lettuce is nice and crisp. Not a wilted leaf in the batch. The dressing however needs a little help. It's a balsamic vinaigrette. Now I love vinegar, however, they are pushing the envelope a bit. When you make a vinaigrette, you add oil to the mixture to smooth and round out the flavor. The vinegar should give a nice bite, not deliver a round house to your taste buds. The sandwich really didn't do much for me either. The pepper, cheese, lettuce, etc were plenty fresh, but didn't deliver much in the way of flavor. Although I guess my taste buds still could have been knocked out from the vinegar. The biggest disappointment was the bread. They pride themselves on having "Fresh bread baked in our hearth oven, every hour". I did see the bread going in and coming out of the oven constantly. However I just really wasn't that impressed with it. Not a lot of flavor, not a good crunch on the outside with a soft chewy inside. It was a bit sconish in texture, with very little elasticity. Not quite as dry and crumbly as a scone, but on it's way. It was almost like they left something out when they made the batch. The best thing I can say about this place, It gave me the calories I needed to get poked by a needle a hundred times a second without passing out. read more

Tried the Kale salad with roasted corn, avocado, goat cheese, quinoa, with chicken. Sorry to say there was nothing special about this salad. it sounded much better than it was. It lacked all the ingredients except the kale and salad! There were a few small grains of quinoa and the chicken tasted very bland. No grilled flavor at all and it's cold chicken just FYI. Even though I was disappointed I would still try this place again but order something else. read more

Everything I've had here is delicious. It's my favorite comfort food! My favorite is the southwest sandwich and the Baja enchilada soup. I usually like Urbane Cafe, but decided to write after last night's food experience. I ordered the Rooster BLAT, a "new" item with the word "rooster" added, which apparently has Sriracha sauce. First off, I should've read the description a bit better - but had to hurry through the menu as we were first in line, & the line was building. Never have I ever had a BLT/BLAT with hot sauce - guess I wasn't expecting it, as the previous BLAT didn't include hot sauce. I don't do well with spicy food, needless to say, wasn't a happy camper. The Sriracha should be a choice, or offered upon ordering, not a given. Not everyone can handle hot or spicy items. Another experience was ordering the Santa Maria, which the first few times was mouthwatering! Around the 3rd time we decided to order this, we were the recipients of jalapeños in our slaw, the same happened last night - which made the mouthwatering quite different! Why does this happen? It's not mentioned anywhere in the description of this meal on the menu? We didn't have this happen the first few times, why the difference? My family and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Urbane Cafe!!! First of all, the house side salad that comes with every sandwich is ridiculously good! Salads aren't the most appetizing side option to me, but, the house salad is the exception. I end up ordering a full house salad if I want to go for something light. The So-Cal and the Southwest sandwiches are my all time favorites here! Urbane Cafe is extremely accommodating as I am a vegetarian and frequently request that the grilled chicken be replaced with mushrooms or artichoke hearts. I have yet to try the listed vegetarian options, but I expect nothing short of delicious. read more

Sammichs done right! Apparently this little spot has been here for some time and I never discovered it until a friend of mine invited me out for lunch. They are buzzing at lunch during the work week just a fair warning (and now that I have experienced them its to be expected, yum!). Top notch sandwiches, and several to choose from. Came here for lunch. The place was packed! Service was quick. Prices were reasonably good for what you get I ordered the So-Cal chicken sandwich. It came with a small salad of field greens, mandarin orange slices and balsamic dressing. The sandwich was made with fresh grilled chicken and fresh flat bread; it was a good sandwich and satisfying. The sandwich in my opinion ranked below other sandwich shops such as Capriotti's, Jersey Mikes, and even Togos. Urbane cafe prides itself on fresh ingredients and markets to the healthy, hip, type of crowd who want "healthy" lunch alternatives. And so this restaurant offers varieties of sandwich+salad+soup combos. I recommend this place for a healthy and fresh choice of lunch. Gave it two stars because I've had better sandwiches. The pita bread was on the doughy side and cold, it could've been served warm and a bit toasted which is weird because the inside of the sandwich was warm and gooey. read more

We eat here at least once every two weeks. Excellent service and food quality. Place is always clean. Customer service is all about making sure the customer is satisfied. The manger is hands on with all the tasks. I am disappointed the Abbott's salad was discontinued. Would love it if a plant based soup was offered as well as the traditional soups of the day. Congrats on going corporate! We have watched Urbane Cafe scale up its operations across Ventura County over the last few years and were thankful that the quality stayed more or less the same until recently. Our last few visits have been lackluster with our lunch today being unfortunately sub par. The chili was less flavorful and more bland than any canned chili off the shelf. The texture was even and boring, like a brown bowl of mush. The salad my wife had was full of not just browned lettuce but browned and mushy lettuce that had a bad flavor to it. The bread is the only saving grace and while not as fresh as past visits, still maintained some of its former glory as the star of the meal. I'm bummed that we have lost what used to be one of our favorite places to grab a quick lunch but thankful for nearby alternatives like Sharkys or Luna Grill. :/ read more

A huge thank you to the team at Urbane Cafe off of Telephone Rd in Ventura, CA. I put in a giant order (33 items) to feed multiple families for a soccer tournament this weekend. Ordering online was extremely easy especially when I needed to make modifications and indicate which item belonged to which person. Urbane Cafe had the order ready for my noon pick-up and had double checked everything. Nothing was missing and all the orders were correct! And of course, the food was great and healthy. They beep you once your order is ready. Protein salad was ginormous. Very full and delicious. SoCal sandwich was full of flavor. They didn't skim on the avocado, comes with a side salad. Really good. My friend Rosio recommended we have lunch here one day. I'd never heard about it before then. We met here on a Friday just before noon. It was clean, had indoor and outdoor seating & had a very simple menu. I had a sandwich and artichoke bisque. My friend had a salad. We sat inside and the noticed that more and more people were coming for lunch. The sandwich was really good but what caught my attention was this TO-DIE-FOR artichoke bisque. O.M.G!!!!!! It was like I died and went to soup heaven! Where has this been my whole life??? Why didn't I know that soup could be this good? Just writing about this, is making my mouth water. Before heading to Los Angeles, my boyfriend and I made a stop at this sandwich shop to check it out. When we arrived, it was soooo crowded, we were able to find a table to sit at to enjoy our meal. I ordered the ROSEMARY CHICKEN (Grilled Rosemary Chicken, Roasted Red Bell Pepper, Provolone Cheese, Green Leaf Lettuce, Tomato Aioli). It was a great meal because every sandwich meal comes with a HOUSE SIDE SALAD comprised of mixed spring greens, mandarin oranges, and a sprinkle of cheese. (NOTE: They use All Natural, Hormone Free, Grilled In-House chicken). The ROSEMARY CHICKEN was very well balanced. The bread was a great texture with a little crunch to go along with it. The provolone cheese was nicely melted mixed in with the roasted red bell peppers making it a great combination of flavors. And to add a refreshing taste to it, the sandwich included green leaf lettuce. The tomato aioli spread brought it all together in every bite. The HOUSE SIDE SALAD was also refreshing to the taste buds. It concentrated on sweetness rather than acidity, which was what I always prefer. The meal was a good amount, you get two pieces of sandwich along with the side salad. I was able to finish only one portion of sandwich and all of t he salad (I saved the second portion for later - which it still tasted great then). My friend and I ordered the California (vegetarian) and the Southwest, both of which tasted delicious along with the salad that came with. Cashier suggested substituting garbanzo beans with the mushrooms on my California and I'm sure it tasted better than mushrooms would have. We have used the catering service twice now during Covid, and the Ventura cafe is fantastic! Marissa Rogers the catering contact, and all the staff at the cafe are friendly and helpful! The boxed lunches are a perfect safe and delicious way to feed a group. They will deliver. All employees are masked, and social distancing is observed. They are always on time, and the food is fresh. This is a nice sandwich joint, lots of variety and the ingredients look pretty fresh. I had the chicken pesto sandwhich (4/5) pretty good tasting and not too expensive. For being in ventura this might be one of the better joints to eat at, and it came by high reccomendation from my sister. I am a huge urbane fan and go here quite often. Last time I ordered food with a friend and brought it home I was eating my sandwich and bit into something really hard, I almost swallowed a pretty decent size bone in my chicken sandwich and the bone chipped my tooth. Be careful when getting meat, it is not carefully inspected for bones that could cause a huge choking hazard. read more

We finally tried this place, and we liked the food a lot but we had a few issues. If they are going to only do take out, it's important to try to get the orders correct. We had an order for 4 of us, and 3 things were missing .... a salad dressing, a side of fruit, and the dipping sauce for the bread. Overall we all liked the food -- the salads were fresh, the bread was delicious, and the sandwiches were great. But there should be a little more quality control when making sure every item in the order is packed up. It was disappointing to get all the home and then discover our missing items. If there is a next time, we will be sure to check our bag for ALL items before pulling out of the parking lot. read more
