The cause of delay was "fresh rice" which I found hard to believe considering at least 5 people came in after me and picked up their orders. There was also trash on the floor and on the tables. As a repeat customer, and fan this visit showed me how little they care about their loyal customers. They didn't try to make it right and didn't seem remorseful. There's plexiglass between the counter and the shop and two windows/openings. There was one woman behind the counter, so after deciding on a lamb gyro, I ordered that from her. Or so I thought. She said she recommended it on rice. When I explained that I was on my way to the Metro and wouldn't really be able to sit and eat anything with a fork, I again ordered just the lamb gyro. Then she said they didn't have lamb. On the wall menu, only chicken and lamb were listed, but she told me she had beef in addition to chicken. Hmm. Ok. I chose chicken. She asked what kind of cheese I wanted--provolone or American. I thought that was an odd thing to put on a gyro, but I said provolone. She rang me up and the meal with my drink was about $13. She said it would be ten minutes. So I waited. Apparently, the kitchen is hidden from view, so my order must have gone elsewhere to an unseen person. When my order was ready, a man brought it to the counter. After getting to my destination, I opened the container and found what looked more like a sandwich wrap than a gyro. I had to do a double take because whoever wrapped it in deli parchment paper--bless their heart--wrapped the entire outside of the tortilla, causing the paper to literally be the center and star of the sandwich. So I had to delicately unwrap it in order to eat it (and not the paper). Despite not really being what I expected, the flavor was ok. The chicken was mostly thigh meat with lots of gristle, which my pup was grateful for. I did like the peppers. My guess is that this is a Door Dash spot, and had I ordered online, I just might have been less surprised at what came in the box.

Like the last 2 reviews I wrote (Aug. 2021 & Sept. 2022), this was yet another interesting day on a weekend! Poke It Up in Pentagon City Mall, the last review was Saturday, 9/17/22. This was exactly one year later on Saturday, 9/16/23. This was the day of the H St Festival; so how did I end up on U St? That day of the H St Festival, I made a new friend. My friend lived walking distance to H St, and I met his roommate who was cool and became a friend. The roommate worked at a couple of area restaurant/bars. We took the bus to downtown, which was my 1st time taking the bus in the area (except once when I lived in Arlington in 2016), which I found to be pretty efficient. We got hooked up with a free cocktail through his work. They were talking about seeing a movie at Regal Gallery Place. I wasn't that interested in what they were seeing, and I also said that I'm AMC A-List so I see up to 3 movies a week, and there was a movie I wanted to see at AMC Georgetown, which I decided on the bus again. We went our separate ways to our respective movie theaters. I'm glad I went to that movie because it was my favorite movie of September, and incidentally, in its 6th week of release, I finally got around to seeing that movie they ended up going to, and it ended up being the worst of October for me! They had talked about going to a Pinball/arcade on 14th St. near Rhode Island Ave. I did the bus again for a 3rd time that day from Georgetown to 14th St. When I had gotten over there, he had said that they were tired and decided to go home. So, I checked out the place on my own and decided I'd eat a late dinner somewhere. I was thinking about grabbing pizza on U St, but it was a bit of a walk. I decided to walk north on 14th and see what was along the way. 14th was mostly sit-down restaurants. I was by myself and wanted something relatively quick. Ultimately, I ended up on U. I knew about Duccini's Pizza was the best of the 3 I had before in Adams Morgan, which was near the corner of 18th, U, & Florida Ave. But ultimately, I saw this place had good reviews and was only one block from turning left from 14th St. as opposed to Duccini's, 4 blocks away. So, I was game to try this place. Experience here: As I recall, seating inside was a bit cramped, and there was more room outside, which I opted to eat outside as it was nice that night. Staff was nice. I don't recall if I drank a free courtesy cup of water, or if I didn't bother with asking and buying a drink as it as like 9:45 PM and didn't want to waste time. But I do remember the staff was nice, and I feel like they did give me water, or I had observed someone else who had a water cup. I got a steak topping slice, which was delicious. Wow, this blew most pizza places out of the water. This little known pizza slice on a less busy part of U St., the northwest corner at 15th St. I had Duccini's like 10 years ago, but this was on par and maybe even a little better, which is saying a lot. If I was looking for pizza around here, I'd return to Pizza Corner.

They are located in an area where carry-outs are not unknown, but it is very clean and legible when it comes to their menu. Parts of their carry-out experience are high-low, so you'll read a lot of mixed reviews on Yelp, so let this be an objective point of reference. Its maintained this neighborhood historic quality, being that the entire place is lined in granite. It has those nostalgic faded picture menus and the history of crossed out prices and new things they have added without redesigning the entire menu. It is next to a smoke shop, so you will see loiterers, but they respect the business, so keep your head down and just walk past them. I would recommend that the best part of their menu is possibly the cheesecake. I have never seen this on a carry-out menu. I was so inclined to try it from the dedicated custom glowing neon on the side of their building. I'm hoping that someone at Full Yum is just very passionate about cheesecake because it doesn't fit into anything on the menu. There are many combo/promotions that prompt you to order the cheesecake. They offer two variations: a classic cheesecake and layered crepe. It comes in so many flavors, we got the blueberry and it was rich, creamy (not icy), and the perfect light ending to our meal. This carry-out produced such an impressively uncharacteristic cheesecake, I would describe the eating experience similar to Rihanna's lyrics "We found love in a hopeless place..." Another good thing on their menu is their wings, since they are coming from a pretty general Chinese carry-out menu, things that are made to order probably serve as the highlight of their offerings and this is exemplary of that. Wings came crisply battered and a generous portion of fries. Of course, their main offering is classic carry-out style Chinese-American food, I'm definitely noticing that they tailored their food regionally for DC eaters. I'm not seeing a lot of vegtables aside from bean sprouts, onion, and broccoli (of course, only when ordered). It will hit all of those notes of crispy, greasy, salty, but in the good way that Chinese carry out is suppose to. We tried a large range of their menu, but at some point, it felt like the breaded items, noodles, and rice were a vehicle for the same combination of seasonings, and it was on the oily side. Flavors are not bad, but they are also not notable or distinctive. Yet, it is still one of the few places that have maintained a reasonable price point for their food. The food is made to order, but depending on when you catch them we got a pretty stale portion of rice. I see a lot of people come in throughout the day and night so I think they're moreso feeding the community in the area. It will be a good, quick, and affordable fix.
