Title: "The Last Customer" -- A Lesson in Rudeness at 4:49 PM I have, over the years, encountered all manner of inefficiency and discourtesy in public service. But today, at precisely 4:49 PM, in the United States Postal Service branch in question, I was treated to a performance worthy of its own cautionary tale. I stood in line, letters in hand, prepared to send out important correspondence. Ahead of me, a woman -- the "last customer," as the clerk rather theatrically declared -- was being helped. I waited. Seven minutes passed. Seven minutes of absolutely nothing. No acknowledgment. No "we'll be right with you." Just the looming presence of a large clock and the even larger certainty that I was being ignored. The clerk, a big white woman with a demeanor that could charitably be described as abrasive, informed me -- without so much as eye contact -- that she would not be serving anyone else. Not because the branch had closed. Not because there was a system outage. Simply because she had decided that she was done for the day. In business, there is a difference between policy and petulance. The former is respected; the latter earns you a review like this. If the USPS is content to have its staff turn away paying customers with open rudeness before the posted closing time, then perhaps the leadership should make that their official policy. At least then we'd all know the rules of the game. Until then, I'll take my business elsewhere. And I suspect I won't be the only one. read more

Recently, I have been going to the post office to send certified mail almost every month. The purpose of sending certified mail is to ensure that my letters are received by the recipient, as l can check the tracking number. Unfortunately, today I encountered a middle-aged white woman who has been working there since 2020. She used to help me send letters before, but I could strongly sense from her eyes and facial expressions that she disliked me. I always held back and didn't show my annoyance. But today, the service she provided for the certified mail really made me angry. As everyone knows, certified mail has two identical numbers, one on the letter and the other for the sender to keep. This white woman insisted that I write the same address on the part I keep, but there was simply no space to write all of it... This is wrong. She was targeting me and making things difficult for me. Before, it was never necessary to do this... Her attitude seemed fine, with a smile on her face... but she was actually very bad. In the workplace, only your professional ethics and knowledge are needed. Please keep your emotions and a calm mindset at work. BEWARE OF NASTY RUDE SOO! We had 6 medium to large boxes we were carrying and there was a long line right after Christmas. As we got closer to the front counter we were relieved that there was a wall counter that we could put the boxes on while waiting since we've been carrying them. We didn't see that there was a brochure stand on the counter because the boxes were up to our heads. SOO THE POSTAL RUDE PERSON yelled at us saying we're knocking off the brochure stand (mind you nothing fell off the counter, DRAMA QUEEN). Like we did it on purpose when we didn't even see the stand. There is a right way to talk to customers with respect. Clearly, she doesn't have emotional intelligence and doesn't understand customer service. I would have rated 1-star or negative if I can with my unpleasant experience with that SOO individual but the person that helped us was the opposite of that NASTY SOO. She needs to go! read more

COVID-19 or not, excellent customer service was missing today. Stamped envelope in hand, the first thing she says is "the window is closed". Why say that? How about a "Hello tax paying resident, sorry we are closed. I see you have a stamped envelope there. You can drop it right in there." It doesn't take much to give you 4 stars. read more

These people are TERRIBLE at delivering mail! So many times, TOO MANY TIMES, they mis-deliver mail. Far too many times these incompetent mail carriers at this particular post office find it too burdensome to look at which mailbox they're shoving mail into, so now I'm at the mercy of my neighbors to do the right thing with my parcel package, because the mindless drone who dropped it off put the key in the wrong mailbox! Smh If it were the first time I would let it pass, but this is too many times! I've had neighbor's mail put in my box, and I drop it off for them. Problem is that's not how it is supposed to go. A little more focus and attention to detail would go a long way. Not every neighbor is going to return the windfall of gifts this post office puts in their mailbox, at the expense and frustration of the intended recipient. I hate that this is my local post office because it sucks so bad. Every other post office has a space or box for pre-paid package drop off except here. The box is always full and if you ring the buzzer for them to take your packages they tell you to wait in line. I'm sorry, I have two small kids and 20 packages I can't wait 30 minutes for you to take them. They literally cannot be bothered to do their jobs. read more

I had to ship an international package and asked Julian for tape to secure the box. Julian seemed frustrated at my request and spoke with an attitude. He angrily said "you need to pay for that". I was caught off guard because I had no intentions of mooching the post office for some tape. I was paying close to $250 for the package so I didn't mind extra $5 dollars for the tape. Incompetent worker placed the shipping label on my address. What happens if my package gets lost? I understand there is tracking number, but where will the package be returned if there is no return address? The woman literally said, "They could just peel it off and look." Small local post office usually with just one person behind the counter and a line of over 5 customers. After seeing the line this afternoon, I decided to call and make my inquiry. The number on my slip directed me to the Rodeo Post Office instead which then called Hercules to answer my question. After nine minutes and multiple holds, the guy tells me that they'll need to call me back in an hour and I never hear from them. Surprise Surprise. I got a little bit of a laugh when I searched for this location on Yelp and found all the other locations in the area are not faring any better in reviews. I don't know if I should laugh or cry. 1.5 stars...one because it is local and I like to support local services as much as I can. And half a star because I got to talk to a real person and an attempt was made in handling my inquiry. read more

There is always a wait here which I don't mind b/c I understand they are probably under staffed, but rudeness is never acceptable. I treat everyone w/respect & I expect the same back. Awful customer service!!!! People that work there seem miserable! I'm supposed to have a package deliver on 12/10, but because the item required signature, it wasn't left at our doorsteps. The note left, said I need to pick up from the Rodeo PO. I went last Monday, 11/14, but was told it was at the Hercules, Sycamore branch. Went to Sycamore branch. Long line about 30 people, stretch from the outside. Because it was a package pickup, I went directly to the package window next to the 2 customer service that was opened. One asian worker, who looked so miserable and grouchy, told me there was only 2 of them working that day & I need to fall in line. I told her, I already filled up the tag that was left at my house & if I can just leave the paper with her with my redelivery instruction. She refused annoyingly! Then the door at the package window opened by another worker. So, evidently, she lied. There was more than 2 workers. So I just left the tag at her window and left. I called the company that I am working with where the package was from, they offered to call the PO as well, was then promised to redeliver yesterday, 11/15. End of the day, no package!!! AGAIN, end of day 12/16, no package!! I understand they're really busy and not enough workers, but that lady- showing a little flexibility wouldn't hurt at all! You're lucky, you still have your job! You're much luckier than a small business owner like me with my business being closed due to covid. If you are not happy with your job, or hate working with people, then you shouldn't be doing what you're doing. maybe if you smile a little and show a more positive attitude- your job may get easier for you! 11/18 finally gave up waiting for the package to be redelivered. I went to pick up. Surprised! Surprised! The 2 Caucasian ladies at the window seemed a little pleasant this time. I was wary to go to this location after reading the reviews, but since it's the closest to where I live, I decided to take a chance. I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it hasn't. Snail mail has become one of those archaic, kitchsy, novel sort of things to me, just like it was when I was a kid. Getting something fun in the mail can be really exciting. Mailing things though is pretty much just a pain in the ass. Somehow my mind just stalls out when it comes to mailing anything over a pound. Can I use stamps? Does it need insurance? Do a need a pink blue or green additional sticker? Jesus christ, can't I just drop it in a damn mailbox? I'm tempted just to go to UPS because at least they are nice about it. So going to the USPS post office, I'm usually already a little bewildered. Think of me what you will, I'm just being honest. Maybe I'm a little special. I don't know. But when the mail lady is an actual asshole, the bewilderment quickly morphs into minor outrage. This post office has no postage scale available, so you will have to wait in line. There is a woman at this location who hates her job and wants to make every step of the transaction uncomfortable. I had the pleasure of watching her berate an elderly lady for over 10 minutes the other day. Sweet. FYI, my next review will be of the weather, or maybe about 'the game.' read more

The lady in the purple hair is so rude. No customer services. If she didn't know how to work with people, why she working at the post office. It is my first time sending a box internationally. She straight up asked where is the customs form. She told me to come back after filling it out. However, she didn't give me a paper to fill out. How am I suppose to fill out it I was not given one. They rudely told me to take the package off the counter and told me to leave. I never in my life was treated poorly by a government employee. AVOID THE HERCULES LOCATION IF POSSIBLE. The PINOLE LOCATION is much nicer. They even honor the 6 feet social distancing at the location. There is nothing I can despise more, then to HAVE to go there. EVERY TIME I enter the place I have to deal with a 7 foot tall black woman who looks like her eyes are ready to pop out of her head. This lady has to be the UN-HAPPIEST person to walk the planet. She is rude in every sense of the word. One time I went there to pick up a form to stop our mail while we were on vacation. I came in 2 mins before closing time of 5 pm on a Thursday night. I tried to beat their closing time coz I needed to pick up a package that was one week overdue. I wasn't home to sign for it so they didn't leave the package. I walked up to the door and was told I wasn't going to get help. She told me to go online and request to redeliver. I did twice but no package. She said to sign the little form and leave at the mailbox to get picked up for redelivery -- but it never got picked up. Ugh. So frustrating. I'm at work all day and cannot make their regular hours. Anyways, on my way to the cashier, I was told that they are closed and will not be able to help me out, 2 mins before they close. I was begging that I only need to pick up and won't take too long. Although there were 2 customers who were together and mailing a bunch of packages, the other lady who I spoke to could have helped me and just flat out refused coz they are closed. How long does it take for her to go in the back and get my package?! Two minutes tops should do it and I should be on my way. I was trying to explain my situation -- that after 2 requests to redeliver, they didn't redeliver!! I work and won't make their business hours. I told them I will be back at the same time the next day trying the same thing. She told me that she will say the same thing: "Call the number in the back of the form to call about the package and redeliver." The audacity!!! What part of "I've tried everything and the package is still not being delivered!" isn't comprehensible??! UGH! Thank goodness the package wasn't medications, otherwise I would have gone postal, pun intended. Take your business somewhere. As convenient as this branch is due to their location, their customer service is ZERO/NON-EXISTENT! Go to Pinole instead. I was in there one day for passport application and photo, 15 minutes after they're already closed, they still accommodated us and very pleasant to deal with. read more

One was stuck and when I told the employee at the counter their response was, "Guess you should have waited then" and they just walked away. No need to be rude.
