While I've been spending an awful lot of time recently working on cleaning out my recently passed…read morefather's home, I knew it was supposed to rain today and decided to skip visiting Putnam County in favor handling some legal and logistical issues. This included a visit to the Post Office to complete my father's change of address (Boy, that's a loaded concept when the person has actually passed). While a change of address can typically be handled online or via a simple form, when the person is deceased it actually requires an in-person visit. Since I was on the northwest side of Indy, I opted to visit my old stomping grounds and went to the New Augusta branch at 84th and Moller Road. This is a large branch in an office/industrial park area. I won't quite say it's hidden, however, it's definitely set apart a bit. This branch offers self-service kiosks, PO boxes, gift cards, greeting cards, domestic money orders, inquiry money orders, mailing, pickup, business, and biometric services (by appointment). They do not offer passport services here. As you pull in, you go left if you just want to drop off mail. To the right, is a nice-sized parking lot with a couple accessible spots. There's an appropriate ramp, of course. As this is an older branch, there's no automatic doors. There are actually three doorways to get to the area for help/customer service - two at the main entrance and one separating this area from the self-serve areas. The counter is also not ADA friendly as it's much higher. The good news is that the employee I worked with was pretty awesome. She helped me with the form, got the necessary copies (if you're doing a change of address because of death, you'll typically need at least the death certificate and likely the probate order indicating you're the personal representative for the estate - this is why it has to be done in person). I watched the employees interact with customers and was impressed. They were timely, professional, friendly, and I appreciated that they reminded customers of a price increase coming up. I'm disappointed by the lack of access. It's pretty significant. However, the customer service was good. Overall, I'd say this was a solid mid-range experience. It didn't blow me away. It also wasn't really negative in any way. It was a solid middle-of-the-road experience. I'd easily go back as this branch was definitely quicker than the Nora branch and there was an overall helpful vibe. I got in and out quickly and got everything I needed done - plus, the employee told me exactly what I should expect in terms of timelines.

I want to give a shoutout to the young gentleman at this location. He consistently goes above and…read morebeyond to ensure a positive experience for customers. I would happily wait longer just to work with him because he always seems to be well-prepared and provides exceptional customer service, which is the best I've ever encountered at a post office.

I had everything ready so it didn't take long to scan. There are things we like about our jobs and things we don't like. Just do the job, complain later when the customer isn't in front of you. That's all.

Did they assure me they knew what they were doing? Of course. I paid $98.08 to ship several items back to my home in California. That is alot of money folks. One of the items I shipped is a very fragile and valuable Boxer statue. It is a limited edition which has not been made in years. I questioned the gal over shipping it back to my home or just bringing it on the plane with me. They repeatedly assured me they do this for a living and my statue, and all other items, would be carefully packed. The box arrived several days later. Just a plain brown box and crushed on top. Looks like either someone sat on the box or put a very heavy object on it. But it is crushed. I opened the box and was happy to find lots of bubble wrap but no peanuts. I removed 7 lbs of various books, show catalogs and a framed picture. With hardly any cushion sat below my prized dog statue. BROKEN!!! The weight of the 7 lbs of books coupled with the crushed box top had broken the ears off my boxer dogs! I was devastated. Who puts 7 lbs of books on top of a fragile statue?? I told them over and over again it was valuable and fragile. 7 lbs of books........almost $100 paid to ship "safely".......the most important thing in the box is broken. Oh, and all the super light items were on the bottom. Of course. I have sent an email to the store and am trying to get an email to their corp office. I bought insurance but seriously.........you can't replace this hand crafted item. They are very sought after and collectible. That is why I bought it and tried to safely ship it. Beware !! **Day 2 and no response either from the store or the corporate office. BEWARE !!!

However, nine months ago we moved into a new neighborhood and in those nine months, my mail has been wrongly delivered no less than 10 times! Yesterday I went into the post office to inquire about an item that was marked "delivered" but it wasn't in my box. The male supervisor looked it up and saw where it was delivered to by mistake (AGAIN!) and contacted the mail carrier in the area who was *supposed* to go get it from the wrong house and bring it to my house. Guess what? STILL no package today. It's to the point where it's ridiculous when it comes to wondering if I'll get my mail or not. My various neighbors have been pretty good about bringing mail to my house that was delivered to them but IT'S NOT THEIR JOB! I truly hope that the delivery people in my neighborhood can do a better job but I don't have high hopes. I don't know what my next course of action can be. I'll have to research if I can file a complaint with the USPS about all of this if it continues.
