I'm fairly trusting that I was recommmended the most effective, yet cost effective solution. I guess we'll see if my application gets delivered on Saturday like the delivery confirmation slip I paid for says. I appreciated that this post office is open until 5:30 - gone are the days where the mini post office in Moraga, which is down the street from the office, was just a five minute walk away.

Occasionally I might ship something else, or need stamps, but I do those things when I bring in a package to be scanned. So for 99% of the business I have done at this post office for 3 years is so simple as to take only a minute or two. Today was the final straw, and I will never use this post office again, for anything, not even to drop a stamped letter in the slot. This is a small post office, not large, as some have claimed. The retail portion is rather small. There are four clerk stations. Most of the time there are two staff - one in the back, busy with things that don't involve dealing with a patron, leaving one staff person manning the counter. There are four stations. Why not close up the other two that are NEVER used? I was in there on an ordinary Thursday in mid-January. This is not "busy Christmas season" when one could expect a long queue . I should have been in and out of there in 1-10 minutes. I walked in and the older man with the white hair and the dismissive attitude was working on something other than helping patrons, for nearly an hour. There was a younger, dark-haired man (30s?) who was disappearing in the back, as he was seeming to help a patron with some complicated business. The third staffer, an elderly woman with long hair and a pleasant manner, was embroiled for over an hour in what appeared to be a very complex bit of business with a man who was shipping two large packages. I stood in the queue of about 18 people, for nearly 40 minutes, while this woman did not for one moment ask anyone waiting if they had a package to drop off, or were simply buying stamps, whereby she might have helped them first, rather than spend an hour or longer with ONE patron who needed to be hand-held through all manner of paperwork for his complicated shipping issue. No apologies from any of the three staffers. The message was clear: we simply do not care about any of you. They couldn't have cared less about the wait time. Isn't this job SERVICE to the patron? That involves clear communication about how long they can be expected to wait, apologies for delays, and asking who has the fastest business to attend to. People who need an HOUR should not hold the line up for nearly 20 people, when it isn't holiday crush time. WHY DON'T THEY SIMPLY HAVE A SELF-SERVICE KIOSK in this post office? There is one in Lafayette, and the Lafayette one is much smaller than the Moraga! Just put in a self-service kiosk and half of your patrons do not have to stand a half hour or an hour to buy a few stamps or to get a receipt for a prepaid label! My business here took LESS THAN A MINUTE, yet with no apologies I was left to stand, with a bad back and aching hips, for over half an hour. Another thing is they routinely do not scan packages or flats for acceptance until the NEXT DAY, even when I've put them in the collection bins BEFORE 5pm. The young man whose job this seems to be leaves them in the bin until the end of next business day. When I have been fed up with standing in line and left my package with the prepaid label on their counter, it did not show up in the system as in the possession of the USPS until 12-24 hours later! How is this acceptable? I am fed up with poor service, when these people are paid very well for their jobs.

I had a suspicion something was blocking the key from turning as we have never changed the locks. After calling many times with no answer, and filing two reports online and in person, I went to this post office location. The manager of this location in Walnut Creek had someone managing my route extract all of my mail for me and hand deliver it to me at an agreed upon meeting time. She was such a nice person she had completed her route in my area and drove back to help me, which I needed as it's tax time and my mailbox had been blocked for 2 weeks. It turned out to be a massive Restoration Hardware marketing magazine I never ordered or wanted that was taking up so much space it blocked my key from turning the lock to open it all the way. A big thanks to the manager and route driver for finally getting this solved for me! I'm not surprised the phone tree and main online report didn't work. USPS seems short staffed. But the people in our local community came through. Thanks a bunch. :)

Ever since its most exceptional employee, John, retired, customer service has lapsed to an unacceptable degree. Never mind the broken and disabled customer service counter partition, left neglectfully in its downward and closed position, has gone unrepaired for literally MONTHS now. Yellow pickup notices are being negligently not put into boxes even when parcels have been known to be already delivered. More outrageous still: We recently received a most obnoxious email from the USPS, falsely accusing us of leaving our box with a supposed overflow of mail, threatening to close the box outright in 30 days were not one of four supposed options for correction not chosen. Two of those options, naturally, included either purchase of a larger, exorbitantly priced box, or some inexplicable Caller Service for mail pickup which was never even linked or described. We promptly visited the branch to determine the truth: Some clerk, or clerks, had mistakenly MIXED UP our scant stack of mail with that of another customer, whose box number was in close proximity and just six digits removed from our own box number; hence the obvious confusion. Worse, however, that other customer's mail was a real overflow and literally reams of neglected mail belonging to them had been collected separately and placed in a big plastic bin for pickup. Our scant mail was mistakenly MIXED IN with that customer's neglected mail overflow, resulting in the false accusation and unjustified threat of box closure. The comedy of errors continued with a box lockout and an outright refusal to give the patron his mail, for absolutely no valid reason, as the box account is currently active and paid! Their pretext: neglecting to put the patron's updated box application in their system for a box maintained since 2006! This kind of clear staff incompetence is unacceptable and should be promptly addressed and corrected for the benefit of all customers concerned.

I've had a few really bad experiences at this post office that I won't go into, but they were probably the most outrageous experiences I've ever had at a post office anywhere. I'm writing this Review because of what happened yesterday, the cherry on top of my overall experience with them... I walked in at literally 4:30 on the dot and already they had everything shut and no one in sight. My box was too big to fit into the slots at thhis post office, a situation that needs to be remedied. In case you're wondering why I waited until 4:30, I was combining errands in a logical order based on location and appointment times, and the UPS Store would not take my package even though it was a Sure Post Package (a Return to Merchant.) They would accept it if I paid them $2! No way. So I would have been there at 4:15 had I known the UPS Store wouldn't accept a Return Package that was Sure Post! I rang the bell of the window hoping to just hand the prepaid, labeled package to someone since I couldn't get it into their slots, but no one responded. So after trying 3 times and 5 minutes passing, I spoke up because I could hear people working back there and I knew they could hear me. I explained that I got there at 4:30 on the dot & they had obviously closed up early, and all I wanted to do was hand them a package that wouldn't fit through their tiny slots. I don't have the luxury of wasting gas to drive back there, or at that point, driving up to Alamo even. I was at the end of my route and I only venture out 2-3 days per week, if that. No one replied, they simply started making less noise as if I wouldn't know they were back there. C'mon! Then I said ok, I'll wait for the 5 pm pick up, but I just need to know where to take it. Does a truck come to the front of the building, do I need to go out back? Nothing! Crickets. Then I heard someone was rolling a cart towards the back of the post office and I remembered there was a corridor between the post office & Ike's Sandwich Shop. So I ran even though it wasn't even 4:45, and there was a postal enployee putting packages in the back of a USPS truck, so I was able to give him my package. PLEASE PUT UP A SIGN LETTING PEOPLE KNOW WHAT TO DO IF THEY MISS THE 4:30 CLOSING in case their packages can't fit through those ridiculous, tiny slots! The pick up is at 5 o'clock, so the least you can do is provide a very large sign or two, letting people know so they don't waste a trip! Please let me know who I have to complain to in order for you to put in a reasonable sized package collection bin! It has been this way for years, and it's a HUGE inconvenience for those of us who sell items occasionally on eBay (95% of the time losing money in them.) It's also an inconvenience for those of us who need to return packages to many merchants. Items sold on eBay are often misrepresented, and lately it's so often I'm reluctant to buy anymore. I ask the Seller questions but they don't respond. Maybe I need to write a review about eBay! I have respect for USPS as an institution, but I don't understand why you can't do a better job serving the public in some of these ways I mentioned. Also, please get rid of Louis de Joy!

**America is still alive!!!**…read more I had the absolute best customer service experience in at least the past 5 years at the San Ramon USPS Post Office - hands down the most outstanding and stupendous service I've ever received from any business. During the chaotic Christmas week, a delivery attempt was made to my closed office on Christmas Eve (Wednesday). With Thursday being Christmas Day, I waited until the next business days - Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th - but there was no sign of my package. After calling USPS customer service, I was told it should be at the San Ramon location. I went in and explained the situation to an older African-American clerk (I regrettably forgot her name). She was incredibly patient and helpful from the start. When the package couldn't be found initially and I mentioned how important it was - a discontinued, very expensive product - she went completely above and beyond. She searched multiple areas thoroughly and even escalated it to the supervisor. It turned out there was a scanning issue after the Christmas Eve attempt; the package hadn't been properly logged back into the facility or was still on a truck. They took my contact info and promised to call. Just 10-15 minutes later, while I was driving home, I got a call from Supervisor Will - he had the package in hand! Even though the post office was closing, they invited me to come right back so I could pick it up that day. This level of dedication and genuine care simply doesn't exist much anymore. They turned a stressful holiday mishap into a complete turnaround, saving my Christmas week entirely. I can't express enough gratitude to the wonderful clerk and Supervisor Will - you restored my faith in people. In places like this San Ramon USPS, the real America I grew up in is still very much alive. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

The clerk, Alisha, failed to process the return receipt cards and did not set up the electronic delivery confirmation I asked for. When I tried to explain what I needed when I was called as the next in line, she repeatedly interrupted me, dismissing my questions by saying "everything is online," and was visibly eager to end the transaction and leave for the day. I left with a receipt that does not reflect the services I needed. These letters are part of a time-sensitive legal dispute and the missing documentation creates real risk for my case. This is not a minor oversight -- return receipt and signature confirmation exist precisely because proof of delivery matters. I will be following up with the postmaster and filing a formal USPS complaint. If you are sending anything important from this location, verify every service is processed completely before you walk away.
