This is my go-to post office simply because it has the most yelp reviews. If there was another post office with more yelp reviews in the south bay, then that would become my go-to post office. But until that happens, this is will be the one ... the place I go to to buy stamps, get my packages weighed, drop off my mail, and ask about increases to the postal rate. read more

I am extremely upset with this Post Office. Lost Mail or is the staff just freakin lazy. You should be fortunate you unfriendly people have a job! I dropped off my unemployment claim form, a payment for a bill, a rebate form and an RSVP. I was informed I had to add additional postage because of the increase in postage a month ago which I did. Also I had to wait in the stupid long line because they have no self serve postage machines. My mail has not been received by anyone i got a late charge and paid by phone, no money because EDD has not received my claim form and so on. Government Agencies have a tendency to hire people who are lazy, no multi tasking skills, cannot properly speak english and absolutely no customer service skills. read more

Update 11/6/2012. I spoke to manager and assistant manager without any resolve. They are seriously screwing up the mail delivery and there is stolen mail in my large neighborhood. One neighbor just received a letter from the postal inspector with photocopies of envelopes of his mail-which they found in the possession of two gals who names they have asked him if he knows them. I had called my local counsel person-but since this is federal they cannot do anything about...I have yet to hear from any postal inspector and will be calling Lundy station or above today. Absolutely horrible. I ordered a package from Amazon, which delivered to this USPS. They for some reason couldn't deliver my package to my work address (though all other carriers have had no problem). When I went to the location to pick up my package - they couldn't find it and took my phone number down. Come the week after, no phone call and no one was picking up the phone line so I went in person again. They took my information down a second time. I requested them to call me the day of, even to let me know they couldn't find my package. No call, and still waiting. How they lose packages when that's their job is beyond me. Will avoid these guys at all costs next time. read more

I lived in downtown San Jose for the the better part of 15 years. I was a big advocate of the post office since UPS/Fedex would often use them to final deliver my packages anyways. I sent dozens of packages with no issue and a lower cost as well. Spent 8 years at the same address with little to no issues until the past year and luckily I moved so I didn't have to deal with them anymore. During the span of about a month while I was moving I had multiple incidents: 1. I printed out and handed my change of address form to a postal clerk which never got processed. This was after I left it in my mailbox for the carrier to take. Eventually I had to process it online for their $1.05 fee. Coincidence, incompetence or both? 2. I ordered a pair of contact lenses and it got marked as delivered. Never got delivered. I had to contact Lens.com and have it redelivered, giving USPS benefit of the doubt, thinking it might've just ended up at the wrong but similar address. Again, mark delivered and never arrived. I contacted the post office through their website and got a canned message saying their records say it was delivered and if I had a problem to go to the website and contact them. Which is what I did to get the canned response in the first place! They didn't even check with the carrier to see if they remembered or what steps they could do to prevent it from happening again. I finally contacted Lens.com and had them ship to my work address. 3. Final straw was after I started getting my mail forwarded. I was waiting for one of my W2's to get delivered so I could do my taxes. Waited a week past the final send date for it to arrive and it never did. Then, based on all the incompetence, on that Saturday evening I drove to my old address and, of course, it was sitting in the mailbox of my old address - with a forwarding sticker on it. W2 with my social security number on it was left for who knows how long in the mailbox. Luckily, my old apartment didn't have a new renter yet. read more

Special thanks to Josephine who helped track down my package when the company did not include my apartment number. The package ended up being stolen but Josephine reached out to the company to confirm it was stolen and I was able to get my refund. If you ever need help and great customer service call usps and request to speak with Josephine! This usps would be a lot better if the supervisors and other coworkers would follow in Josephine's steps by putting the customer first and going above and beyond to help a customer. I gave this usps 3 stars because of the other workers I've encountered have always been negative experiences especially with the male supervisor and the lady with glasses who's position is supposed to help customers, but all she does is tell customers what she can't and won't do and constantly has a condescending tone with customers. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE Ramon "helped" me during my visit. Did not say one word to me as I waited for him to slowly type with his pen. He did not offer me any price or delivery options and threw my package on the floor when I was done paying. When I asked about tracking he said that that option is not available for "economy" service. I pointed out that he did not offer me any other type of service and he said "well I can upgrade you if you want." Obviously he had no interest in helping me. There's an old fucking hag that works here who is extremely rude. I came in on Saturday to buy postage for a package but the sales windows were closed. I didn't know they didn't sell postage on Saturdays so I got in line at the pick up window to inquire. I ask the lady if I can buy some postage for my package and her answer was, "WE DON'T DO THAT HERE." How DO YOU NOT SELL POSTAGE AT THE POST OFFICE? She probably meant she doesn't sell postage at the pick up window, but her answer was retarded so I waited for the guy worker. I then asked him if he could weigh my package so I knew how much postage to buy from a self service machine. The lady told him to IGNORE ME ("Just ignore her"). WTF? OK CUSTOMER SERVICE BITCH, LET'S IGNORE YOUR CUSTOMERS. The guy told me they didn't have a self-service stamp machine so I had to go to another post office. WHAT THE FUCK? This post office is fucking useless! And that curly haired bitch can go to hell. read more

This place has the worst customer service and no one answers the phones. I called just a few minutes ago to try to get ahold of a live person. Specifically, I needed to speak to a manager. I tried calling today between 4:37pm-4:41pm (4 call attempts) all saved on my cell phone call log. The person that answered the phone literally picked up the phone and then hung up the phone. I mailed 11 boxes of books from San Jose CA to Baton Rouge, LA two months ago. When they did not arrive as of three weeks ago, I physically walked to the Baton Rouge post office 70808 to ask about the packages. They did not know where they were. I had delivery confirmation on the packages but did not receive any notification of attempted or failed delivery. Someone has been at my house to receive the packages. All of my other mail has been delivered during this time. While visiting friends in San Jose I received notification that the packages had been returned as unclaimed. Now #usps is refusing to even release my packages to me unless I pay THEM for the return postage. That's right, folks, after failing to provide a service for which I already paid them they are forcing me to pay again so that I can go to another service provider to pay them to do what #usps did not do right the first time. read more

On hold right now with an agent that is completely rude. I guess I can apologize for her being the only person in building, answering phones, talking to customers coming in and the only one to check if my package was there. I do believe that as it took about 20 rings to get her to answer. She said there was not another way to find out if my package was there without the tracking number (in which the one I gave her "didn't locate anything" and just basically I would get a call back when they were staffed enough to look for it. I order from Amazon all the time. This has never happened. I almost hesitate to order anything as don't want to deal with this again. All in all the package is there...after being put on hold with no notice so thought I was hung up on and terrible customer service; I am heading in to pick it up. Quiet possibly the worse place on earth. They provide the worst customer service and pretty sure they know and enjoy doing so. A line of 6 people will take a minimum of 20 minutes. Every time I go there is always about 1 or 2 people and a line off 10 or more while you can clearly hear others in the back. Don't bother calling, you will wait 7+ minutes before you realize they aren't going to picking up. I wouldn't have had to go if they attempted to deliver my package. I caught one of the the guys just writing a note outside of my door while waiting for him to knock. He didn't knock he just wrote a note and was about to leave until I opened the door to surprise him. Not all but the majority of San Jose postal service need replacing. read more

I tried to call to complain that our mail delivery has been horrible. Packages from wrong addresses show up all the time. I have lost so much mail.... also the outgoing mail hasn't been picked up in weeks. So I try to call this branch..... but the phone doesn't even work. read more

The reason I gave the San Jose post office a one-star review, was because, well it's from the beginning, just when you walk in you see a huge line for pickup, and I was in town for only one day, so I had no chance of going back, so I wait in line and I soon realized the only reason the line is moving is because people are leaving it's not moving cuz they got their package and left it's because no one is at the front desk to give the people there packages. after 50 minutes of waiting we finally got to the front only to be helped by a guy Who is slower than a sloth from the Zootopia movie he went to the back to grab my package and probably took about another twenty minutes. When he finally came up to me he said the package was not there, i then lost my mind and made him go back and look for it again. After another twenty minutes he come out with the box. I tell him thank you and then finally leave it was probably the biggest waste of time in my whole entire life! read more

This place sucks. I really hate it. We opened a post office box for our business here. At first we thought it was kinda cool to "go downtown" for our mail. The old building is really beautiful and interesting. However, the cons FAR OUTWEIGH the loveliness of the building. They include: 1. NOWHERE TO PARK! The situation was always bad because you have to parallel park in the metered spots on St. John St. Sometimes there is no spots available. Not only that, the meter maids around there are Nazis. I was like 5 seconds late one day, carting my infant around and carrying all this mail, and she gave me a ticket. I swear she was waiting by my car for the meter to end. To make matters worse, they have recently torn up the street where the parking is, so now there is even less parking and you have to park 20 miles away. 2. THE DROP BOXES ARE IN A CRAPPY LOCATION! They are located on the right side of the street. So you have to park, block traffic, get out of the car (trying to avoid getting nailed by a car passing you), walk around your car, put your mail in, run back around your car, and get in. Not only that, now that the street is being worked on, the boxes have been moved to 1st st, on the left side. Here you have to park, get out and walk several feet to the boxes, leaving your car in the middle of busy 1st st. 3. REALLY HARD TO GET HERE IF YOU HAVE A BABY OR ARE DISABLED! The parking situation is obviously a problem for those of us who need to park close. There must be disabled parking somewhere, but I don't know where. Regardless, it's quite a trek to get to the post office from the parking. I always have to get the stroller out, which is a pain when I just need to run in and get the mail. The ramp entrance is way on the other side of the building and is ridiculously long and takes forever to get up. The "automatic" door has never worked as long as I've been going there. Worse, last time I went, a bulldozer was working near this entrance and when I tried to get there, a policeofficer scolded me. I heatedly asked him how I was supposed to get in the post office with my stroller. He ended up helping me carry my son in his stroller up the flight of steps at the front of the post office. 4. SERVICE- We have had several packages that were not delivered. They never notified us of delivery and I had to go and ask them to look and see if they had them somewhere. This happened to us not once, but twice. They were sitting there for like 2 weeks and no one ever bothered to notify us of their delivery. Not only that, we have had several problems trying to get our address changed, etc. 5. CREEPY PEOPLE- Needless to say, there are lots of creepy people around here, with St. James park being directly across the street. I'm always on edge when I come here. Not only that, the lobby closes really early, like at 6:00,because they have to keep the homeless people from sleeping in there. So it's really hard to get here to pick up your mail after work. Such beautiful building and it seems historical place. But costumer service far worse than I had. I have been sent from my local post office in Santa Clara after trying numerous times to call and no answer they said my package is there by mistake. I walked in and there was about 20 people in line. I went back out to ad more quarters to parking meter then went back in line. After waiting about 20 minutes in the line and making some progress in the line some lady came out and asked in order from front of the line what kind of service they needed to save some time. When gets my turn I tried to explain what's happening she was not even listening rest of my story she tells me to go and that they can't help me not even to check tracking number. Her name was Belin. She was rude way she talked to me at front of the 20 other people. I was trying to stay calm and not to make big show. I just don't get how this facility gets by with pour performance and costumer service. They need to get some fresh people pretty sure there is plenty people looking for this type of job. If they at least answer phone and tell me that they cant help me no big deal but if I put my efforts going there and pay for parking I deserve at least some effort from them. read more

Worst service ever!!! They should replace their staffs. Normally if I was not available, they supposed to leave me the pink notice! No notice until I found out my package was actually attempted to deliver. I didn't get my package until three days later! Another time, sender required them to have the signature confirmation, so when I was not available, they left me the pink notice. When second day, I went to the facility, the Clark told me the package might still be in the truck. Now I have no idea where my package is. I have to go back again tomorrow!! The building is beautiful and I've never had an employee act in a bad manner towards me. But I wish I didn't live in the delivery zone for this post office. I can choose a different post office to mail something from, but I HAVE to come here to pick up packages, usually on Saturday because I work normal business hours. I cannot believe how slow service is in a line of people all just picking up packages. We're talking 45 min to an hour with just a few people in front of you. It's unreal. Beautiful building but they need to pick up the pace. Workers are nice but they need to turn there energy level up a notch, its not nap time. I can not stand when people are not prepared when they get to the counter with there unpacked box etc, they waste everyones time. I understand some people do not know what forms etc. But what i can not stand about the workers here is that they let them fill out all there forms while everyone in line is waiting and ready. This is the only post office that does this. Usually if someone comes to the counter and still needs to fill out forms etc the worker will say please move to the side and i will help the next person while your filling out the forms. Not here. They just sit there doing nothing while the person is doing forms, packing box etc. I think that use the few minutes as a short break. Its very frustrating. I could have been helped and gone during those few minutes. This happens on a daily basis. I did leave a message with manager hopefully they will work on this issue. The absolute worst post office I have visited. It is not a retail location, just a drop-off depot. That being said, I just needed to pickup a package on Saturday 2/15/2014 that wasn't received by anyone at my place of residence. There was a notice left but it was very vague. That should have warned me what was to come. I arrive at the location, find a parking spot right away (only positive part) and add money to the damn parking meter. Upon entering the door, I see that there are at least 10 people in front of me. I try to gauge the speed of the line and it appeared to be moving at a decent rate. However, 5 minutes into waiting, the clerk disappears for several minutes for no reason. There was no sign or verbal notice given. She wasn't even searching for a package. A minute or two later, a guy apparently a regular visitor, approaches from the back of the line to ring the bell and request for help in a louder voice. He calls several times but nobody emerges. Finally, after another minute or so, two clerks emerge: one very rude asian lady (she literally told a customer to read a sign on the door for answers and said "now go!" and an indian lady who seemed to be trying her best. I'm next in line while the asian lady and customer begin to argue. I considered running back out to my car to add more change to the meter but didn't want to lose my place in line. Well, I should have because the argument became heated and the crowd started growing concerned and agitated. So I approached the counter to ask for my package but the asian lady just took my slip and proceeded to argue with the now angered customer. He even bumped into me slightly but I let him know it wasn't a good idea and somewhat apologized. The poor indian lady just stood there kind of in shock but grabbed my slip from the rude b**** and went to grab my package. She took foooorrrreeevvveeerrrr. In that time I tried to diffuse the argument along with the other customer that was ringing the bell earlier. Finally, I get my package and say good day and good luck to the clerk and other customers. Upon walking back to my vehicle, I spy a parking ticket on the windshield and the parking authority cart pulling away. Really??? I'm so pissed at the shitty service and the fact that the rude clerk delayed my time that long for me to get a ticket. I had just under 30 minutes on the meter before entering the post office. 30 minutes!!! I guess time flies when you're annoyed. I'm considering sending the ticket to the post office so they can pay it. Seems only fair, right? read more

I would give it zero stars if I could. I never write reviews, but I am still in such shock from the reception I received over the phone. I asked calling about a stuck mailbox, and was advised by my HOA and mailman to contact the post office. The woman who picked up the phone was SOOOOOOOOO rude from the get go, cutting me off, telling me no immediately without hearing what I had to say. I have never dealt with such a grumpy, incompetent person in my life EVER. I understand when things can't be done, but offering understanding and respect is what someone should do in a customer based role. This place is poorly managed and staffed. I've worked in customer service for several years and know the way you treat and talk to people, and not all their staff, but definitely some, do not handle or talk to customers with good respect. They just don't seam to be extremely organized most of the time. Once again, I don't know how much of that is their fault, but the customer service aspect is on each individual. read more

St. James station is a beautiful post office in town. They have a new program called Mpos stands for mobile of sales. You can pay credit card to avoid a long waiting line. they said they made three attempts to deliver my amazon packages. I went through two of the attempted delivery times, 1 hour each direction on my front door video. NO Attempt was made at my front door. USPS is the worst! The delivery guy is a liar, is it a federal offence to deliberately not deliver mail? Carriers lose mail, deliver to the wrong addresses and stuff multiple junk mail flier bundles from wrong addresses into boxes and cram it all into a ball if it doesn't fit. I've had so many things damaged, from prescription medication bottles to the title for my car. The mail carrier doesn't care and when I went to the office to bring the issue up to a manager at this office I was told that it was my problem and my responsibility to take care of anything the carrier puts in the box. And the only alternative I had was to put a hold on my mail and come pick it up at the office, in which case I'd still get all the junk just not have it crammed into a ball in my box. Well thankfully the world has alternatives now that the US Post Office is completely inept and incapable of even matching simple addresses to their boxes. Finally moving to a private box at a mail store and letting these jokes of professionalism do whatever they want with their tons and tons of landfill-bound unsolicited junk mail that they spam our boxes with until the end of time no matter what it does to our mail. I'm tired of being their garbage person and throwing out bin after bin of junk mail I didn't ask for and that isn't even addressed to me. read more

This place is nothing but frustrating, especially on a Saturday. The only service available is package pickups and even that is a chore. After standing in line and watching each person go away frustrated it appears to me that they go out of their way to not help people, adding more and more rules. I had been picking up my packages here with just a picture ID for over a year and now they have added the new rule of verifying my address. Stating that it's for my security, slips get lost all the time and people can have common names. Ok great, if you have a common name like John Smith, by all means verify, but it's a picture ID. And I would think I should be able to have things mailed to any address I like and just have to prove that I'm me, the person listed on the pickup slip, who cares where I live. So frustrating! How many more hoops am I going to have to jump thru next visit? No wonder USPS is going broke. I'm ready to switch over to UPS and FEDEX just so I don't have to deal with this crap. read more

Went to post office on April 3rd, 2015 at 12:45 p.m. I looked for a postage meter/dispenser but could not find one - this is an old post office that has window service only. (It's also one of the most beautiful buildings in San Jose.) I got into line before the windows. Three were staffed and working with customers out of four when I was in line. Then, one of the staffers at the left-most window told a man to stand in line in front of me (I was first at the directed start point). "He's next - I'm still helping him," said the person at the counter. One of the other windows cleared, so I went to that one. "Don't help her - help him! He's first!" said the person at the left-most window. My mail was already being weighed for postage at that point. The person helping me stopped and looked confused. Apparently, no one was allowed to help me, even though I was first in line for an open window, and the left-most counter person had already said that he was going to help the person he allowed to stand in front of me. I had no time for this nonsense, as it was close to the end of my lunch hour. I said that I would go to another post office, gathered my packages and left. This particular post office is well known for its weak services and service personnel, but this was a new low in terms of how they treat customers. I will go to other offices in future (Meridian is far superior in services and personnel). But I have to say - it's a shame that in such a beautiful building, the customer service has to be so ugly in its treatment of customers. read more

I went to this post office to pick up my stuff. I saw a lady whose name is Falguni. The way she helps customers so bad. I've ever never seen any one helps customers like that. First, I heard she told the customer in front of me said: "I'm doing the right way." without smile. How can she talk to customer like the meant way? Second, she also told another "homeless"lady had to get in line because she did not get in line. I totally understand it. She also told me that I have to get in line. I went there to pick up, so I have to get in front of gate 4 and 5 for picking up. Why she told me to get in line ??? Besides, she also said "whatever!" when i went there to pick up. If you have many boxes to mail, don't come here, they will be rude and reluctant to help you. If they act rude and reluctant, then what kind of service can you expect from them? I've come here twice, and left quickly with the understanding that I would get better service elsewhere. I have filed a complaint with this post office several times now & it doesn't seem to do have done any good! This a place of business. We are open during the week from 7am to 3:30+pm. Some days we get no mail at all, which also means our outgoing mail doesn't get picked up. Some days while we are sitting in the office we later find the mail stuffed in the box on the street, & again our outgoing mail doesn't get picked up. We have been advised that packages we not able to be delivered at times that we have been sitting in the office. We have also been informed that something was delivered to our "mail room". We don't know, nor have we ever had a mail room. That time they actually left a package in the break room that our laborers share with several other businesses around us. No one was even in the room to sign & we were in the office next door with our address on it the building we were in. When the package was finally found, it had been opened & some of the items had been handled. Our company has been in business since 1931 & in this same location since 1951. It is totally unacceptable that this continues to happen! I am sure that my latest complaint will do more good that the last five or so times I have tried. I just have to laugh at the commercials on television about how UPSP cares about small business. WHAT A JOKE! read more
