Ughhhhh this post office sucks! Every time I come here I get frustrated! I mean the building is beautiful, but the staff here sucks! I been here to pick up packages and to buy stamps, and there's always a long line --- jk, it's probably like 3 people in that line, but it takes like 10+ minute per person???!!!?? I hate that we have to pay for parking. It's like a quarter for 7 minutes/2 quarters for 15 minutes! I feel like the staff are intentional slow so we keep going out to put in more coins cause that's what I had to do! It took almost 30 minutes just to buy some stamps. There were only two workers at the front counter, but there was a third counter open but it was just for picking up packages or something. Seriously this place is slow! If I can have a favorite post office, it'd be this one! The staff are all extremely nice and they make it seem like they actually enjoy working in customer service. This is definitely a trait that others need to acquire. Come on a weekday in the morning or before 4pm and you're guaranteed to not have to wait in a long line. This was my first time going to this USPS and the first time I had to ship something from California and let me tell you that this place was OK. I waited about 15 minutes just to drop off my pre-paid package when there were only 5 people in front of me. That's an average of 3 minutes per person and something should be done about that. Also it felt like there was no air circulation in there. It was humid and it smelled kind of funky. The employee that assisted me felt like he hates his job and didn't even talk after asking me if my packages were all pre-paid already. By far this is the worst post office that I have ever been to. I've been trying to get my hands on my paycheck from my new employer. First check has to be sent by mail before electronic transfers takes affect. Well here's the catch. I don't have access to my mail box since it takes at least two weeks before my locks can be changed by the post office. I've spent a total of 4 days making my way out to this post office from Sunnyvale, where I work. 1 day to request the key change. 3 days trying to pick up my mail which they have no idea of its whereabouts. Really? The tracking info for the darned thing states that it was and probably still is sitting in my mail box out front. One day I tried to get around heading down without knowing if I have anything waiting for me. Thought I was smart by calling in first. WRONG! Sorry, things just don't work that way. Over the phone some lady said, that they don't check mail without an ID. Really? You can't just walk behind the walk, check, then say yes I have mail? How is the security of my mail being compromised when there isn't a physical body on location trying to retrieve it? I'd reach my hand through this phone if I could. Give my ID and something else. Merry Christmas. I ran into the post man on a Wednesday, two blocks before my street. Not by chance. An already wasted lunch period. Might as well finish it off by driving down a could of streets just in case the postman might be down one of them. Hey I might get lucky right? He was a cool Kat. Told me that he just picked up the hold request, which I put in on Monday, and would have my mail at the post office earliest on Thursday. Latest by Friday as he put it. Great I'm in luck. Shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. Thursday, nothing. Friday, nothing. Again I use the word, SERIOUSLY! At this point, I'm giving up. I'll have to wait till next week Friday before I can get paid. I'm glad that I only have to step foot in this H#LL hole on more time. And that is to pick up the keys for my mail box. Since I am not expecting anything, I can wait 3 - 4 weeks before doing that. I give this place a 1 star. The three gentlemen that assisted me during this week were awesome. Besides that, the postal system as a whole is rubbish. I often come here to pick up a package that's been redelivered. Since I work far away I need to get there around 6:30am before I can catch my train. Several times have I been told to wait one minute but in reality becomes a 10-20 min wait. It's ridiculous how SLOW the service is and is frustrating when finding a package takes literally 2 minutes plus a 30 min wait. You guys cannot possibly call yourselves professional when you clearly don't consider your customers as a priority. Get this message through your workers and improve the system. read more

The staff in this location is a sack of potatoes. No one ever picks up the phone. In fact it cuts off after ringing a while. The service for the line is extremely slow. As if each staff there is in a race of who can do it the slowest. They are also rude, not helpful, unreliable, and sluggish. Heck, even the TSA shows more effort... So here is what customers should do, BE PREPARED and HELP ONE ANOTHER. Customers have to be the competent one here since potato staff. PSA: Everyone, please just do your business and leave. HORRIBLE service. They don't answer the phone, well.. they did once but put me on hold and never picked up again. All the tellers are rude, unhygienic, and don't offer to help at all. There's no parking, the lines take forever and if you pay metered it's such a waste of time and money. I'm not one to pile on as there are plenty of people who absolutely hate going to the Post Office. But for me, I have never minded the lines and long wait times since they are who they are. Lately I've been coming here for weekend parcel pickup which only means that they just need one person to work the window and retrieve packages. That's it. Just ONE person. I went in on a recent Saturday and there was no one at the windows! Nobody. They have a bell to ring there to alert them but after I rang it, still no one shows up. By this time, a queue of people is already forming and they are thinking the same thing...I hate coming to the Post Office!!! So someone finally came after one person said, "HEY!!! WE GOT PARCELS TO PICK UP!!!" Then they finally came to the window. Honestly, I never would've done that but based on the reaction of the people that work there, it doesn't seem that they took offense. So the moral of the story here: if no one is at the window, don't use the bell...just yell to get their attention. read more

Whoever answers the telephone is god-awful - will either not say anything and just pick up and hang up, or will actually answer and then hang up on you anyway. I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure my job is far more difficult than whatever the hell she's doing. Oh, did i forget to mention that I rarely get my mail? I have a PO Box and sometimes packages will sit for days without them ever putting a little slip in my PO Box to let me know a package is waiting for me. There's one man there who looks of possibly Filipino descent who ALWAYS looks miserable. And he has to be one of the most unfriendly people I've ever encountered. I hate this post office. This place sucks. They say the dmv is government hell but they've obviously never been to this place. I'm not sure if the employees are not instructed well or if the system is wrong but no one seems to know what they are doing here. Unfortunately I've had to visit this place around 10 times and I've hated every visit. I've never rated a place this bad but that is truly how I feel. One of my worst visits was probably when my mailbox was vandalized and i had to pick up my mail at that location and i had to wait 30mins + to talk to someone. Once I got to the front, I asked if I could get my mail and explained my situation. The guy who attended me did not retain the information given to him and responded with gibberish. WORST. SERVICE. EVER. No parking lot, then places to stand in line are poorly marked and none of the workers cared to take people in order or ensure patrons were in the right line. It would be so easy for them to make the 2 lines more clearly marked! We were overlooked, then 'corrected'about being in the wrong line, when it only said on the FLOOR, "wait here for next available [worker]". We were informed this was expressly for pickups only. If I could give this zero stars then I would. Every. Single. Time. Every. Single. Package. CANT be delivered for some reason. Or gets LOST. I have literally watched Usps pull up to my building and walk up to the door, not knock, not try any way of getting in contact with people inside, before just going back in their truck. Even if I specify that an order needs to be delivered at a back door, or that they NEED to knock, they never do it and never try. I've been down to this office several times because they continuously lose my packages. If they say that they tried to deliver and couldn't, say goodbye to your package, because they will just send it back to the seller or sender. By the time they find it, if they even do, they will have returned it already. Trust me, they don't try to even attempt to deliver even the smallest of packages. The staff at the office are rude and don't answer the phone, they also don't really care to help even if you go there in person. When I order something I expect it to be delivered properly. Now, when I see that Usps is delivering an order, I will just cancel it. If it's not UPS or FEDEX delivering it, I won't even bother going through the trouble. Beware. Pathetic customer service. I was away on a trip and a package was sent to me for my business. I had my gf go pick it up. She is tiny and cannot lift heavy packages. She asked if someone could help get it to her car. That answer was "no." The private sector like FedEx, USPS, etc wouldn't have done that but the lazy asses at the USPS couldn't help her out. She said she could return on Saturday with he old mom to help lift the package (twirling my eyes). The USPS worker said "okay, we are open Saturday." They are not open on Saturday. Also, they couldn't even hold the package for two more days so that I could pick it up when I return. Isn't it time to get rid of the waste called USPS? Let the private sector handle it. read more

This is part of the reason that the USPS is going bankrupt! Horribly slow service, and 4 times out of 5 you're likely to get a "customer service" representative that will barely even look at you. It's also not very good when you go to pick up a package just to wait there for a while so they can tell you they can't find it. Come on guys, you deliver and track mail! Yes, you have a lot of stuff to watch over, but if you can't do your basic job then there are some serious issues that you need to address! Every now and then you'll get a nice representative, but more often than not it's very apparent that they just don't really enjoy being there. The good: This post office is in a cool old building with fancy architecture. It's also conveniently located near a lightrail station that just so happens to be one stop from where I live. The bad: pretty much everything else. I won't bore you with all of the gory details, but I had to frequent this place for over a week because some lady who worked there lost my request for a mailbox key. Then I was having my mail held for me, and they just stopped holding it for no apparent reason. Once I finally got my key, I had to call when my carrier was there before he left for his route at 8:30am so that I could ask him to put my mail back in my mailbox. Isn't putting mail in a mailbox something that should just come naturally to a mail carrier? Every time I've been there the employees have been in no hurry to help me. It's even worse if there's a line when you get there. Really, though, I'm probably being nice by giving them two stars instead of one, but being able to look around at a fancy building while you're waiting forever to be helped improves the process somewhat. read more

If you don't work in the area, parking will be challenging because they don't have onsite but only for employees. So you would have to pay for public parking if your lucky enough to get one. It's across the park so there would be some additional entertainment while sitting in your car because there's some interesting characters there. There was hardly any wait time so service was fast. I guess there's a positive somewhere for difficult parking. I was probably in and out in less than 5 minutes. read more

This location is really understaffed. There are 14 people in front of me and a few more behind yet only one window is open and it takes several minutes to serve one customer. The building is nice though. It is on the national register of historic buildings. No free parking outside and no self serve postage machine. Still a convenient downtown location, so I will continue coming here in the future. read more

I love this post office! The first time I came here, I actually walked right by it and had to double back once I realized the gigantic cathedral-style building was my intended destination. It's actually on the historical landmark listing, and understandably so. Beautiful tiling, dark woods, echoing acoustics. I always feel like I walked into a 19th century train station whenever I come to drop off a parcel here. Every time I've been here, there has been a daunting line. But also each time, the competent staff has worked their way through everyone quicker than expected. In spite of their heavy workload, the folks I've come across here have always been super friendly and have actually gone above and beyond to look out for my best shipping interests. Yes, they sell stamps, but they do not have a machine. They have a couple of kiosks with space for you to fill out your forms, tape you can "borrow" to close up your packages, and items such as envelopes for sale. The actual customer service closes at 5, but from my understanding, you can go in to check your PO box until 6. If you're driving, make sure to bring some change for the metered parking! read more

Always a frustrating experience. I've been here every day of the week at different times and there's always a line that moves at a snail's pace. Working at the post office must be similar to working at the DMV...no sense of urgency, borderline rude, and a general "I don't give a crap" attitude. What's worse is that they took out the stamp machine, so I had to wait 35 minutes to buy a roll of stamps today! The poor guy ahead of me was in the same boat. I'll order stamps online now, and hope that guy thinks to do the same. If you want to buy stamps at the window (and not get the boring, default stamps in the vending machine), you have to go Monday-Friday during the day. The office is open on Saturdays only for pick ups of packages. What the hell? This is San Jose's main post office! A little service, please! Whenever I have to go to this post office I end up in the worst mood. It took them 2 months to make my mailbox key and they made the wrong one. They were supposed to make a new one and after a month I didn't get a call, my old key was still there and hadn't been changed. I have to wait in long lines to pick up my mail and there is never a friendly face on the other end of the counter. It is unorganized and I have spoken to multiple supervisors and still have not been able to get into my mailbox since August. Every worker appears to hate their job and the post office manages to put everyone in line in a horrible mood. I have to give this more than 2 stars. It is a government entity so you have to factor that into the rating. There is always a line but the staff is super helpful. When getting my po box they held my spot while I ran out to my car to get another form of ID. There are always homeless people in the lobby so I would recommend that you frequent during daytime hours. read more

M-F, they'll do what you expect a USPS Office to do. Come in on a Saturday - don't expect much. They can't sell you single stamp. All you can do is drop off an item into a bin, pick up, or take care of paperwork (like forwarding/vacation services). Seems like a waste to have such a large, central USPS Office not offer normal services on a Saturday. The next closest USPS Office to buy a stamp/ship a package is Willow Glenn. There's a Filipino lady here behind the counter was so awfully rude. Management needs to send her to customer service class... I just asked her a simple question if I can leave my (big box) on the counter here..she pointed somewhere I wasn't clear and asked to confirm and she sarcastically asked me "if this was my first time here to do this" my gosh does it matter if it is or isn't?
