I went to US Smog a few days before my smog check was due and had my coupon ready. I was informed of all charges upfront, including an extra charge for my car because it was classified as "utility." When I asked Howard about it, he very nicely explained the classification and showed me on my DMV smog form where it was listed. He also gave me the great tip of stopping by the nearby AAA to process my registration instead of doing it online and having to wait for the stickers and form in the mail. I have my two cars oil changed and smog checked at US Smog Test for a few years now and they give great service. I have one older car, a 2003 Passat, that had some issues clearing the computer and US Smog was very accommodating when I came in to get the computer checked, they often did a quick computer check for free. Once I was able to get it fixed they re-checked me for a small price. I highly recommend their service. read more

THIS PLACE SAVED MY HINEY. Conveniently located off the 405 and Culver, OPEN SEVEN DAYS a week. I called a couple of places and they were booked plus closed pretty early on Saturdays, not open on Sundays. My tags were expired (unbeknownst to me because I'd moved a couple of times) for over a year... gulp. I had to get 'er done quick. They took my paperwork and keys, then a half hour later, everything was done. In the meantime, I walked across the street and grabbed a few grocery items at Wholesome Choice which killed time rather nicely. It's bad enough when you're required to take your car in to a test-only facility, but when it's done quickly/conveniently/courteously it makes it that much easier to stomach. read more

I went to another smog place first just because it was closer to me. The guy was creepy and no one said anything to me for like 5 minutes while I stood at the window. The wait was too long so I left, kind of glad not to be spending my my money there. I searched online for another place and found these guys. My experience was 100 times better. The guy was very friendly. Was able to take me right away. Said I would be done in 30 minutes and I was. Friendly, comfortable place to wait with free wifi and prompt. This is the worst smog test station in Irvine, CA(18015 Culver Dr, Irvine, CA). The guy name Howard treated customers like $$it. One time I did not get the smog test certificate and when I asked him the copy he charged me $10 for it. I asked him why and he told me the landlord charged him. It was a bull$$it. One of the few local places providing smog checks on Sundays. Call ahead to verify that a qualified inspector is there. I was told that smog checks are completed only from 2-4 pm on Sundays, but the guy who answered the phone was really nice and said I could come a bit earlier. Once I got there, service was quick and friendly. There are several tables to wait nearby. It took not even 25 minutes. Only catch is a $2 fee to use credit cards for payment, so bring a debit card or cash. Also, be sure to go to their website to print out a $10 off coupon. read more

If I could give this 0 or negative stars I would. Well I tried to get a smog check somewhere nearby and early so naturally used Yelp to find this place. Oh cool, a $10 off coupon too? So I make my way there greeted by Horacio, a very nice guy but hey that's where the 1 star goes too. Next I wait for almost two hours and then Milano(?) who you go to to pay for is very rude, makes you not feel welcomed and then my car is returned to me with the latch on my hood broken and unable to close properly, and he offers to have "their" mechanic take a look at it and that it's "nobody's fault", yeah right, trying to distance himself from this situation. It really feels like they're just trying to take advantage of customers. I know my car, and the hood really looks like it was forced open or closed, the latches were bent and you can totally tell that they forced it because And yeah I'm sure it was their fault. Wondering what happened next? Took it to my usual mechanic. A $50 smog check, shouldn't have resulted in $300+ in repairs. read more

I came in on a Saturday at around 4pm with my 1995 Jaguar XJS (my baby). I was in and out of this place in 25 minutes. They were very careful with my car when they pulled it into the test area. Howard automatically gave me the $10 discount and I didn't even have to show my coupon (Your mileage may vary with the coupon, so bring it with you anyway). It's a bit more than most stations but it is in a convenient location in Irvine. Just like Ed said in a review: " I don't need to be treated like I'm a rock star or give me free coffee, just put the machine on and tell me if my car passes or not." If I could give them zero star , I would! I was 1st to arrive for a smog check. The tech serviced 2 other people before me who arrived after me for the same service. According to them, they dont work with appointments. And, they definitely don't respect 1st come - 1st serve order either. They are rude and provide terrible customer service. Owner and tech have no (good) manners to speak to customers. They do not know how to deal with people, in general. Owner raised his voice at me when I asked him "how much longer?", after seeing 2 other cars leave that arrived after me and I was still waiting for over 1hr. It seem like he wanted to show he was the owner, and we had to wait at his mercy. 1st and last time going there. There are plenty of other smog chk places. Smog checks, like many other automobile services, are more expensive in Irvine and South County. However, US Smog is worth checking out for its online discount and speedy service. I came here for a smog check for my Prius (yes, smog checks for hybrids are apparently a thing now). The total price came to $48, including the smog check fee, certificate, and electronic processing fee. The smog check was completed in 15 minutes. One word of advice: come earlier in the day to avoid the crowds and to take advantage of cooler weather as there aren't too many places to sit at the center. read more

I came here before and the owner was nice enough but the tech was a complete buffoon. I have a OBD1 1992 BMW which states in the engine bay as such. This fool marked me for not having two O2 sensors. What? Also marked me down for having an aftermarket air filter even though I have a carb legal sticker for it. He let the car sit for 40 minutes to do a visual he was not qualified to do. I went to a place in Tustin and it was fine. Somehow I think I will report this to the BAR. I can't believe he took over two hours. It was a waste of money and time for incompetence. For those who don't know an OBD 1 has only 1 O2 sensor which is confirmed in the manual he couldn't understand. read more

Oh man! Don't waste your time here. I got a quote over the phone for $39 ($10 off today) from Howard. I arrive during my lunch to an unfriendly male face (Ramin) who directs me where to park. He rudely asks for my paperwork. He quotes me $51 and I tell him I was quoted $39 about an hour ago. He then walks me over to the mechanical area (this is very inappropriate) where Howard is perched in a chair. Howard proceeds to deny the price he quoted me - in fact, he swears (by his 'god') that he quoted me more (i had written down the price so there would be ZERO confusion). I take my paperwork back and attempt to leave this amazing establishment while Howard follows me to my car, continuing his story and blocking my path to drive away ( as tho I would change my mind at this point ). What a tacky business. No one smiled at me or showed any friendliness and I get the impression they don't respect women much here. There is nothing "U.S." about U.S. Smog. i came here for a smog test and to get my car repaired because it had a service engine light on. I was hoping for someone to help me, and that's what i found. The owner (Howard) was more helpful than I could have imagined. He gave me a quote for the repair which was half of the dealer's price. I came to this place to get an oil change for my boyfriends car. The man told me it would take 6 minutes to change it. He sent us across the way to sit down next to the car washing place. It's 90 degrees out and we are tired. It's been AN HOUR now. I go over there and see my car hasn't even been started on yet. At this point I'm real angry. I ask the owner why it hasn't been started on and he gives me real attitude. I was going to leave but I had already been there an hour so why not just wait and get it done. I got out an hour and 30 minutes later and the workers were giving ME an attitude when they were the ones lying to us. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. I usually can get my oil changed in 15 minutes tops for cheaper. We only went to this place cuz it was close to our house but we won't ever come here again. read more

Once I presented the coupon the person said that "It would be $68.75 but i will take $10 off so it would only be $58.75 plus the $8.25 Certificate and $2 to transmit it to the DMV." $68.75???? More than double because I have a mid size SUV? That is robbery. Since reading other reviews it seems the price changes depending on who you are at the time.
