Do not go there. My son took his car a 2004 Hyundai Sedan there, the charge was $61 and the car failed. They told him that the retake was free. The car got fixed and he attempted to take his car there today for retesting. They tried to charge him $31 saying it was written on the slip. He clearly remembers that they said it was free. I called up and acted like a new customer and I had a jeep that needed to be smog tested. I asked the charge for retake. The guy said retake is free on the phone to me. Then I asked him then why he tried to charge my son $31 while it was supposed to be free. Then he said it is written on the yellow slip that $31 for retake as some fees. He started to talk about certificate fee filing fee etc and that was written on yellow slip yada yada. He said both to me and my son retake was free. The yellow slip he was talking about is completely unreadable. He then called and text quite a few times trying to convince. This is what he wrote" Retest for SUV is free because we charge more. I told you for Jeep is $58.00 Please check your yellow copy" . He charged my son's 2004 4 door sedan $61 and telling me that they charge more for SUV. That means he overcharged him already..cause he is 20 year old young guy who knows notmuch about the test? Really? My god! STAY AWAY!!!! read more

The "mechanic" tried to charge me $10 more than he said on the phone when I showed up and asked about the price of a smog check. The "mechanic" knew before-hand that my car would not pass (because of check engine light) but didn't tell me that until after he "tested" it. Of course, once I go to the dealer and reset the engine light, I would have to pay to get it tested there again. You can get better service for comparable and even cheaper pricing anywhere else nearby. Long story short, I left feeling like I was robbed. read more

Good company. Howard is extremely helpful. I have 4 cars that run the gamut of foreign domestic, new to 215000 miles. The coupon available on line brings the price down to where they're competitive. He's prompt, courteous, and usually I'm in and out in 25 minutes. Good guy and helpful. He's also done minor tune ups and oil changes so good for the little things. After reading the reviews I was hesitant but it seemed very conveniently located,so I called for a quote and a very rude man responded with "just bring your car in", I repeated my question and after he did the math out loud ge stated that "It could be $51", I was not willing to give him the "maybe it is a language problem" benefit of the doubt and asked if "it is $51 or could be $51?", he stated that it was $51 out the door. By this time however I figured if I go there it will be my own fault if I get what other have already told me about so I went to the Smogcheck on construction circle, a little more expensive but seamless. read more

I had a smog check this morning. Very bad service and unfriendly, rude attitude from the guy who did the paperwork for me. Half an hour later I asked him a question , he just walked away and ignored me. When I yelled at him and threaten to cancel the smog check which was not possible because it was already half-way done, he changed his attitude and said that he had a bad time with another customer. It was not my problem . He works there, gets his salary there, he was supposed to give a good customer service to everyone. If he acts that way, don't work at that place. I complained about his attitude to another person and this person was going to notify the boss. Hope that guy will get reprimanded. I 'll never go back to that business and not recommend it to anyone. They are not the only one doing smog check. read more

I usually don't write negative reviews. My experience at this place was so terrible I want to make sure unsuspected people are aware before taking cars to this place. First of all, what customer service??? I pulled up and the guy tries to charge me 10 dollars higher than the price I was quoted on the phone. Not a sign of high business ethics when the price changes based on what you look like. Without getting into all the technical details, I ended up having to pay twice for a second smog after the first test failed. Later on I found out the first failure could have been avoided if the technician checks the car computer is online prior to running the test. I questioned why customers will have to pay twice the manager prompted to play the "I just work here card" and said he will lose his job if owner finds out he did not charge for a second smog. He also said the owners are Korean as that some how it should be self explanatory and should set my expectations properly given this piece of new info?? As an Asian myself, I am deeply offended by such insinuation. The manager of the place started to get really irritated when I press for a proper explanations and was basically told to take a hike and stop crying and pay the fees. I am shocked at the attitude and the manager's willingness to dismiss customers with such ease. I feel the sense of entitlement from the manager because they are in a good location and there will be plenty of traffic and customers to go around. It's more important to get the most out of you whenever possible. I will not be returning to this place even if this is the last smog station in Orange County. read more

As many others have said on YELP, stay away. I should have known to stay away but it is conveniently located here in Irvine. I got there when it opened at 8 a.m. and the worker there said the technician is not going to be there til 9:30 a.m. No I am sorry, but please come back later. Not a word uttered, but I let it go. Came back at 1130 a.m. 90 minutes later they still not had come to get me and say the car was ready as I was waiting in the customer waiting room. Yes they did accept the $29.95 coupon that I found online. And actually they offered me water, which I accepted. But 90 minutes for a smog check is absurd, but I had invested too much time so just stayed there. The waiting room did have the nfl playoffs on and wifi. Oh also I was told that they would come and get me when ready. I noticed that my car had been pulled out and appeared done. I waited another 10 minutes and at that point went over and asked if the car was done. They checked me out and I was on my way. Not worth the hassle. DO NOT COME TO THIS LOCATION!!!!!! read more

Came here for a smog check. Waited over an hour to find out I basically passed everything but I had reset my system with my OBD reader before I got there. (I knew it was just an error with my gas cap being loose so I thought I was doing them a favor). I had explained this to them, yet they refuse to even consider my explanation and tell me I need to pay a fee again to have it retested at a later date. They were really rude and even blurted out "I just work here, its the KOREANS that own this place." Um....HELLooOOOoo i AM Korean, what are you trying to say about us you racist idiots. So i tell them I want to talk to the "Koreans" but they weren't even in that day. I remember coming here for my smog check last year and my check engine light was on for the same reason and the guy working there was really chill and let me off and passed me without a problem. I was incented to call this place because of the stated 15 minute service and $10 coupon online. Before driving over I decided to call for pricing. The male who answered the phone stated their price of $49. Plus and $8.25 fee for this and a $3 fee for that. Understandable. Is that included in the $49? My total price is $51. That doesn't add up. What is my total price again? I wasn't understanding or he wasn't not communicating clearly. Whatever the case, I asked legitimate questions to clarify. He quickly became unpleasant and condascending and spoke to me slower like I was stupid. If you're busy, don't like your job, or simply not a people person, don't pick up the phone. Have someone with basic customer service skills to do that for you. I didn't bother going to this place, so maybe their in person service is okay? I don't know because I chose not to give them my business. I'll forego the discount to work instead with a station that strives to make things easier, not harder for you. This place has to be the shadiest place I have yet been to. They try to pretend they are legit, but I think not. I will not return to the complex as it all feels like a good place to have bad stuff happen to your person and or your ride... I can't exactly point my finger at any one thing because the entire process was a hack. I am very uncertain how they even tested the car, the hood was never opened, the car was never hooked to any machine and all that was done was a grease ball drove it from the parking lot into the very small building. I was asked by another guy that worked there to please wait inside the building. I went in there when I first got there and there was no way I was going back into this back cubby hole that you could get abducted from. I watched the whole process of how they smog test here, and the only thing that was done, a show.... dog and pony. I went to pay, pulled out the card, and big surprise here, credit card machine not working.... cash only. They failed to say any thing about this at the beginning, but I did have almost enough, $5 bucks short and they said that is fine...... So in the end, I got what I needed, but I feel like I helped a fraud continue to be just that. Not coming back. read more

I tried US Smog Test Only for the second time. I got the same great service I got the last time. I called Howard to see if he could get me in and he was able to smog my car right away. He gave me an excellent price like the last time and I only had to wait less than 15 minutes! The lobby where you wait wasn't bad either. I couldn't ask for anything better! read more

Smog check cost is at par with places around. The people operating it are okay, not bad service. I did not face any issues during my two smog checks done here in last three years. I don't think Howard (who uses to run smog checks earlier) works here anymore though. Good option for smog check at the neighborhood. read more

Howard is great! Be confident and go to US Smog in Irvine. Just got back from having my car smog checked. Howard was pleasant and helpful. I am shy and timid by nature and he picked up this instantly and made me comfortable and confident he'd take good care of me and he did. Because they were busy it took about 90 minutes but I was fine with that especially considering its a Sunday, I hadn't arrived until after 1pm without calling first, and I'd prepared for all day if necessary because I'd just realized last night that my registration and smog check are due tomorrow. While checking out I noticed one of my back tires was low and asked where the air was so I could take care of it myself. He kindly asked his teammate to take care of it while he took care of the bill. Kudos to these guys for working in the heat (90s) and keeping great attitudes and customer service! read more

After getting my car washed, next door, I decided to get an oil change since I was already there. Everything seemed OK until I had to pay for a new oil drain plug, which was about 5 times what I could purchase one on my own, but I figured it saved me having to go to a parts store...I paid for the oil change and the plug, and started to drive home. As I was driving home I had this car pull up behind me and start flashing its lights...What the heck was that all about! At that point I got a call from my wife that the shop had called and said they didn't charge me enough. At a stop sign the guy in the car pulls up next to me and says I didn't pay for everything and for me to come back to his shop!..I turned around and followed him back to his shop. I went to the girl at the counter (his daughter) and showed her the receipt that showed that she had correctly charged me for all the services I had received and the drain plug. She said that, yes, she knew that she had charged me correctly and didn't know what the problem was. Her dad came up and said he thought she had mischarged me, but now saw that she had not. He said "Happy New Year", and that was it! I thought at least he would offer me a discount on my next visit for accusing me unjustly and wasting my time and gas. If this is his idea of "Customer Service" I don't think that I will be a return customer and will make it a point to warn others of him as well. read more

If I can give them a zero I would! Based on the other reviews I bet the jerk that I dealt with was Howard. I went to get a smog check and they started by pointing and yelling at me to go around to the back. Then he quoted a price of $60 dollars for a smog check and when i showed him the coupon for $10.00 he said $53 . Irritated at this point i let it go.. Afterall it's Irvine ... However next he was trying to force my shifter on my Audi that you have to push down before you shift and when i informed him of how the shifter works he proceeded to get out of the car threw the coupon at me and of course he kept the paperwork so I wouldnt have their information and told me that i was done and to leave. This guy is a head case and should not work around people especially in Irvine... Well he wasted my time, insulted me and made me mad however i didn't say a thing and just walked away. And just thought to myself I feel sorry for that guy he does smog tests for a living and he cant even do that ... We'll whoever it is that owns that place doesnt deserve to make it in today's economy with the staff that he runs his business with.
