Well, I had high hopes, but after the initial experience I suppose I should have known better. I originally called to schedule a microdermabrasion appt- the receptionist got me right in for a SKIN consultation with Lisa. When I got there, Lisa (who does hair) informed me that they actually do not offer microdermabrasion, and that the receptionist probably misunderstood it for microneedling. Ummmm ok, we specifically referenced a skin consultation... but Lisa showed me around the spa, apologized profusely and gave me a coupon for 20% off my next visit because of my trouble. So that is what actually brought me back (a mistake). When I called the spa later that day to schedule a custom spa package, I was put on hold for nearly 20 mins while they tried to figure out what pricing to give me. Their brochure clearly states "ask us about a custom spa package today," but nobody seemed to know how to figure that out. Ok, whatever, not the end of the world. I was quoted $157 for an anti aging facial, along with a spa manicure and pedicure. I booked, thinking I would get the 20% discount off my next service, as listed on the coupon I received. The day of, I arrived 5 mins prior to my appt, but did not actually get taken back until 15 mins after my appt time. There was no receptionist at the desk and no one in front of me when I got there, but once she finally came back up, she took 2 other customers who had just finished their services and had them pay/schedule their next appts. This was annoying, to say the least, but I shrugged it off and tried to relax for my spa day (which was a birthday gift from my husband). Once I finally got taken back, I was informed that all 3 of my services were with the same lady we will call "M." M was nice enough, and rather quiet, but I was a bit taken aback that there was practically zero effort made to get to know me and my skin history prior to beginning my facial. Generally, you are given a form to fill out regarding your skin type/history, but nothing... she did briefly ask "no allergies to anything?" as she began the facial. It was pleasant and I felt refreshed, but there was no WOW factor like with other facials I have had in the past. The spa manicure and pedicure, on the other hand, were a different story. I wish I had just gone to my usual nail salon. I had thought that since this was a fancy SPA mani pedi package, that the double price tag would be justified; not so. The ambiance was actually quite dull, and the services themselves less than average. The massage was maybe 2 minutes per hand/foot, if that. I was so disappointed. Even so, none of that compares to what really sealed the deal for me with this place. When I went to check out, I handed them my coupon and was informed that my grand total was $150... $7 less than I was originally told. Apparently, even though the coupon specifically said "20% off your next visit," it was actually only for 20% off ONE service. Ummmmm maybe consider changing the wording then, Utopia, because that is completely false advertising and misleading at best! I am so disappointed and can't figure out how this place was nominated for Best of Clark County. I can't say I will ever be back. The receptionist at Utopia is extremely rude and I've actually found myself wanting to confront her. It makes me crazy when I am a paying customer and do not get greeted walking through the door. Booked an appointment a few months ago to do a root touch up tone and haircut. The hairdresser initially told me she did not book me for enough time. However, when I called to schedule the appointment I texted photos of my hair and what I want to get done to the salon and was told it was easy to do, and ultimately they should have been prepared. When I got there the hairdresser told me that what I wanted would take multiple sessions. Umm no, I know what my hair can take and what I want was simple and the person who I texted said it was possible. So she put in foils in my hair and did a balayage which was horrible because it didn't blend with rest of my hair, and then toned it with a grey toner. Thing is, grey timers turn my hair green. She wouldn't dry it so I didn't know what it fully looked like since it was still wet. I payed around $200 came home, dried my hair, and was soooo angry to see how my hair turned out. Nothing what I asked for! I attached a photo of my hair from utopia, I had to wash my hair 4 times to remove the toner since it turned my hair green. A couple weeks later I went to my other hair dresser and he got my hair to a perfect platinum hair, which is what I wanted in the first place. read more

I came to this salon due to a long wait at my regular hairdresser. Never again! I went to Mallory for a cut and a balayage coloring. What I got was the worst haircut I have every gotten. I have been trying to grow my hair for over two years and I asked Mallory to "barely take any off" and she took off over an inch (probably up to two inches in some spots). She also put in very heavy layers that were extremely uneven. The back was also uneven (with a 1" difference across the back!). I looked like I had two different layers of hair and there was no blending. Additionally, Mallory did the coloring before she cut my hair and so she cut most of the new color off, with no blending up towards the top of my head. I ended up having to go to a different salon for them to fix the cut and will have to go back again to get the color fixed. (due to the uneven-ness, the stylist had to cut off almost all of the new color off). The new stylist completely agreed about the poor quality of the haircut, and commented that it looked like a bad haircut that was an attempt to cover up by making it worse (with way over texturizing). She was also shocked that I had requested balayage and didn't even recognize my hair color as that. I will give credit to Lisa, the salon owner. Even though I have never done it before, I called to complain the next day and ask for my money back. She was very apologetic and offered to refund my haircut. Called the salon to see if I could book a same day appointment for my mother's birthday. They were very accommodating and helpful in taking me through the process. I live in North Carolina and so it was important for me to talk to friendly customer service in orders to make arrangements for a deep tissue massage for my mother. It was her first massage ever and she loved every bit of it. They also filled out the form for my mother ahead of time because she is not a native English speaker and I knew it would be difficult for her to walk in alone without any help. It meant a lot to me that they would help ease the process for her and talk with me through the entire form to help fill out what allergies she had a previous history of surgeries so that she can just walk in and sign the paper. read more

Flawless experience all around! The check in process was fast and smooth (they are following all covid guidelines). I was really nervous to get my haircut as the last time I got it cut (not here) it was a disaster. I had my hair done at a previous salon and it turned out horrible. My hair was super bleached and brassy. Just not a good look against my skin tone! So based on reviews, I came here, to Utopia. The first hairdresser did a great job. The brassy-ness was gone but it was still a bit too blonde for my taste. So I called the salon the following day and spoke to the owner. She was nice about it and allowed me to come in the next day. And I am glad to say that I am finally happy and content with the color of my hair. Not too blonde, not too dark. I made an appointment to get an A line cut after having long hair for several years. I had had an A line done about 7 years ago on a whim at a Supercuts, and while it looked cute, it definitely could have been done better. Mercie was my stylist at Utopia, and she did an AMAZING job on my A line. It was flawless, and literally took her less than an hour to do. I don't mind chatty stylists, quiet stylists, whatever, but I really appreciated the fact that Mercie even apologized for being quiet because she was concentrating on doing my cut and style perfectly - that just confirmed to me how committed she was to making sure I loved my hair! I would give three ratings: 1) The service from Amber as I entered and departed was 5-star. She was warm and friendly and demonstrated efforts to make my experience wonderful. The accommodations in this area of the spa were beautiful and I felt pampered. 3) My experience with my hair cut was fine (the dreaded F-word) and if I had only come in for a hair cut I would not be coming back to Utopia. After careful reflection, I would give the experience 1 star - hmmm, maybe fine was too nice a word? The salon area does not give the same pampered feeling - that is OK. And my hair looks just fine this morning - it is very easy to cut as I wear it long. However, the service was poor. I will not go into details here or provide the name of the stylist as I believe this type of feedback should go directly to the owner of the salon rather than to a public audience (Utopia may contact me if they would like further information). I will return to Utopia for a facial and look forward to trying their other spa services. My first time here. I called for a same day appointment. The receptionist was so easy to talk to and got me scheduled with Emily. There was no waiting at the salon, by the time I was served a cup of tea, Emily called me back. I had been wearing my hair long and straight, I was ready for a change. Emily took the bulk of my hair off but unfortunately cut herself quite badly and the finishing touches went undone. While attempting to style my hair the next morning I found I needed a bit more shaping done before I would be able to handle the style. According to Yelp, the salon was open on Sunday at 10:00 so I went in. Lisa the owner was the only one there since the actual time to open on Sunday is 12:00. Had a gift certificate given to me for my birthday. I decided to use it on a gel mani and a gel pedi. Both ladies did a fantastic job and were quite friendly. As I was paying, I requested to have the remainder of my gift certificate put toward one of the ladies tip plus some cash for the other. The receptionist was rude and couldn't figure out how to accommodate my request using basic subtraction. She had another girl lean over and explain what I was requesting. Clearly she was embarrassed, therefore made a snarky comment to me about how she was right the first time (even though I never told her she was wrong). The last time I went there, not only did the stylist give me a very mediocre haircut, she made a comment to a coworker about coming in to work even though she was sick. No thanks. I decided to try this place out because of the ratings it had. Also, because I really wanted to go blonde for the first time, I needed someplace that was highly rated and reliable. I had a lot of faith this place could finally be the place I could always go to get my hair done. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case and I shouldn't have had my hopes up. My hair originally started off as dark brown hair with some old brown hair dye I had. I know going into this, the process would take 2-3 sessions to lighten my hair to be blonde. The first session was basically washing and "removing" away any leftover hair dye in my hair (which I felt did absolutely nothing for $100. My hair looked completely the same as it did coming in). The second session I had was to start the whole blonde process without using bleach (which was a bit confusing but ok?). But the hair stylist that I had gave me false promises saying she could get to the blonde I wanted, done in one session. Which I highly doubted but she believed and told me she could. But obviously she couldn't achieved it in that session, so I had orange hair. Which was fine, I know that's part of the process of going dark to blonde but my problem was her promising all of those things and then shrugging it off like yeah, it is, what is. Like that was very frustrating and annoying. Plus it was very splotchy everywhere. I had like 2-3 different tones of orangey blonde throughout my hair. But knowing that was just temp, and hoping it can be fixed n even for my next and last session when they actually have to bleach my hair blonde, I left it in her capable hands. So I specifically asked for like a pale yellow blonde hair, she gave me ashy sliver with uneven blonde splotches. I tried so hard to be as clear as possible of what I wanted and occasionally check in with my hair stylist throughout the whole process (which should've been her job) of what the plan was. But I felt like I was completely disregarded, and although the result was ok, it was not what I wanted and this whole time she had her own version of what she thought I wanted. Smh, overall, it was just a huge waste of money for (splotchy) hair I didn't even ask for. Every appointment I had, I left not being happy in my experience. They are very nice people and my hair stylist was very sweet but the lack of communication between her n I was very frustrating. I will not be returning. I also had a similar problem that other people had mentioned in their reviews like the 20% discount off retail service (which they almost didn't give to me because it was meant for "new customers" but I was one) but they only took off $6 off my total bill that was over $100. I really wish I could say that I loved this place and that I loved my hair and the whole experience but I really can't. It was all very disappointing :/ read more

This place came as a recommendation from one of my friends, so I decided to give them a try. I scheduled an appointment with Alina to do a blonde balayage. I came in having a rough picture in my mind about what I wanted, and Alina gave me suggestions based off of that. I told her I wanted more of a white blonde rather than a yellow blonde and she did exactly that. This my first time having my hair colored, so I was kind of nervous and anxious but when she showed me the finished product I loved it! My hair was blended very well, it wasn't streaky and it was the exact color I wanted! Alina was super friendly and kind, and finished my hair in 1 1/2 hours. UPDATE: I just washed my hair 2 days after getting it done and now it's coming off in orange splotches. Definitely not professional. They also told me that they don't recommend bleaching and dying hair which is why they never offered it to begin with even though PLENTY of their staff and clients had horrible bleach jobs or colorful hair, really Utopia? They also made my Mom and I sign a release from as if belittling me because of my age and trying to mooch money from my Mom. I have never heard of a salon using contracts against minors/parents, one word: SCAM. Please beware when coming here, I did see a couple ladies when I were there who's results were actually very pretty. So it's going to be hit or miss here if you're doing corrective color. ALSO I've paid about 110 in the past for a bleach job and a creative color. 150 dollars is ridiculous for the color I have, stop over pricing.. It's not like your a Pearl District salon. I came in here yesterday for a cut and color and I left very disappointed. My stylist Carli did NOT do what I asked. I gave her compliments on the color and cut, but honestly I knew I was going to have to leave a bad review here on Yelp. I brought in a picture of the color I wanted on my phone and my hair is like 5x darker than the picture. She could have at least bleached my hair and then had me come back into to get the EXACT color instead of just bullshitting with me by saying it will look almost exactly like that. So now I'm only content with my hair which is how I felt before I even got my hair done. The color is pretty and all but NOT what I asked for. This whole thing cost $150 and it seemed like I was only paying for what she wanted to do to my hair, not what I wanted to do. I'll just stick with D-Side Studio and never come back here. At first glace the salon looks like any other storefront salon. When I stepped inside all previous opinions were gone. The receptionist Courtney was very personable and has a great attitude, as are the rest of the staff. Overall i had a great time and if I'm ever in the area again I would like to try their other services. Manicure: Rachel was friendly and fun. She had a great attitude and had an awesome conversation. She did a great job on my hands and made the whole experience fun and relaxed. Didn't make me feel out of place. Her being a traveller helped and afforded the opportunity to swap stories. I have been searching for more than a decade for a hair stylist who knows curly hair. Curly hair requires a different approach to cutting, care, and styling. If my experience speaks of anything, it is that most hair stylists are not curly hair friendly or knowledgeable. I found out about Utopia thanks to the Columbian newspapers daily deals. I called up and asked about anyone who specializes in curly hair and came in for an appt. with Chris. She took the time to explain the pricing, the hair colors, and the style she felt would work for me. I have struggled with what style works for my curly hair with my face at my shoulder length. Chris took the time to look at my hair and my face. I felt confident in her knowledge and ability and went with her recommendation on hair hue and style and I have never been so happy with my hair. She even gave me a tip as to how to part my hair so that my smaller eye (the one we all have) is effectively hidden by giving the illusion of raising and opening that eye and evening out my face. I was amazed when she flipped my hair one way and it was clear the eye was minutely lower than the other and then parted it where she recommended and instantly my eyes appeared to be evened out. She also gave me the tip of sleeping on a satin pillow cover to minimize breakage. The color Chris recommended for my hair is the perfect balance of red and brown. I have since had several compliments from strangers on the color and style. I am thrilled with it and the kicker is that this is the first haircut and color I have ever come home with that my husband even liked. I have already set up my next appointment with Chris. She is a wonderful hair stylist and very knowledgeable about how hair can affect the face structure and how to work with curly hair. They have a private parking lot in front of their office and kids cut prices. They also allow walk-ins. Moni and Sierra are awesome! We are never disappointed. My daughter and I come in for nails and hair. Moni is so creative with her nail art. She can think outside the box and even remembered my daughter talking about Minecraft nails the last time we were in, so she was ready for her this time! Sierra always does what I ask, and when I don't know what to do, she always knows what will look different, but fabulous (I like to change things up on a regular basis). I have had my hair and eyebrows done here twice with mixed results. The gal who cuts my hair is very friendly and chatty, and she follows directions well. I wasn't too crazy about my first hair cut (cowlick issues) but when I was more specific about what I wanted the second time, she did a great job! The front desk is NOT organized or friendly, and they have a very annoying system where you have to pay for your hair cut and brow wax (and I assume any other services) separately. I believe that the salon should be able to figure out a better way to handle this without inconveniencing their patrons. Also, the last time I went, the eyebrow lady gave me too much change, and then called me up after I had left and told me that I had not actually paid and that I needed to return to the salon and pay. How annoying. Would have been avoided if I had been able to pay for ONE visit with ONE payment. They also changed my appointment time without asking me and left me a confirmation message as if the new time they had chosen for me was the one I had scheduled. Sloppy. This review is for Mo. I've only had waxing services at this salon and after my experience with Mo, I wont go anywhere else. Going to a new esthetician and exposing your girly parts is never is never a comfortable experience, but right when I got into the room with her I relaxed. She is friendly, out-going, talkative and open. She made going through this painful and personal experience so much easier. I look forward to going and seeing her every 2 months. Also want to note that she uses a wax that hardens on your skin and then is ripped off. This was surprisingly much less painful and resulted in almost no redness in the days to come.
