Have you ever felt so comfortable with your hair stylist that it's like hanging with a friend who happens to be super talented? That's what it's like whenever I go see Rose. I've seen her 3 times in the last 8 weeks. Normally I see her on a whim and then don't see her again for 2 years because the cuts she give all grow out really nicely and often I'm just too lazy to go back. Over the summer I decided I wanted a blonde balayage. I thought I loved it when I left but after looking at it in natural light, fluorescent light and the lights at home I decided I didn't love it. Contacted Rose who was more than happy to help achieve whatever I wanted. Fast forward 8 weeks and I was tired of being blonde because I thought it brought out too much of the redness in my face. Ta da! I'm brunette again and couldn't be happier. The salon itself is edgy but comfortable and so far, I've loved all the products used. Rose did some twisty curl stuff with my hair yesterday, I slept on it, brushed it out and it is still curly-ish. I have Asian hair so you can imagine I'm pretty impressed. Rose is a gem, you should check her out if you're looking for a cut or color, she excels at both.

This was taken 1 week after my "full" foil

I've been a customer for nearly 4 years and I will NOT be going back. I get a foil every 8 weeks and 22 inch extensions 2-3 times per year While I've been generally happy with my hair, the last 2 times I went in, I was treated so poorly and left with subpar hair--after paying $1200 plus tip My stylist requires up front payment for the hair and while that is understandable, I should not need to make multiple calls, in person visits (once I waited 30+ minutes before I gave up and had to come in a second time), emails, and texts to accomplish this. That is ridiculous This last time Kelly requested I come in 2 hours before my scheduled time. I was coming from overseas and had to rent a hotel room to accommodate her schedule--she was over 90 minutes late, I was there all day with no food, the salon was FREEZING, my clothes got soaked, I was billed for a full foil I didn't get (see picture), she completely disregarded the photos I gave for color reference, and left me with orange roots and lowlights (I'm a cool ash blonde) No discount, just a pile of samples. I left cold, hungry, unsatisfied and had to have her work corrected elsewhere She has consistently been late to appointments and I tolerated it because I liked the results. However, while her work with extensions is generally excellent, her failure to trim my natural hair (I had to forcefully demand it this last time) contributed to serious damage to my hair and her color results are inconsistent For what I pay and I tip 20%, I deserve better

The before and after from dark chocolate brown to light ashy blonde ombré balayage done by Carissa! Gorgeousss!

If your like me, you understand the struggles of finding a salon that knows how to work with Asian hair, lucky for me I found Carissa at Vain. She took my dark chocolate brown hair into beautiful light ashy blonde ombre balayage in ONE sitting. The results came out better than what i was expected. I was so happy I gave her a hug at the end! Oh best part is she very knowledge so at the end it left little to no damage to my hair! Carissa is really great and super friendly i highly recommend her to anyone that needs a great color.

    What I asked for.

Came in yesterday for a bayalge, shadow root, and trim. I was quoted $405 (ended up paying $485 including tip and parking) for what I wanted done, and I said, sure, let's splurge and get something really nice. It is not at all what I asked for. The cut is crooked and choppy. The color, while it looks fine, isn't what I asked for. I will only be returning to get the cut fixed. For $460, I expected it to be perfect and exactly what I wanted. Edit: I got my hair cut fixed a few days ago. It's even now, but after all was said and done, I lost about 4 inches, when I only asked for an inch trim. I pretty sad about all the hair I lost since I've been trying to grow my hair out from a pixie for 2 years. A manager Melissa called me on Saturday to follow up with me. She was very kind and understanding of the situation and has offered to refund me the haircut and give me a credit for a color fix as well as an additional credit for another service. I'm really happy she did that, but I'm going to leave my review as it is. I've literally cried about the amount of hair I've had to had cut and over all its been a really bad experience for me.

    Bayalage and cut by Shaina
    Kristen C.

I really can't believe there are no reviews on here for Shaina yet! I went into Vain for the first time yesterday and she did an incredible job giving me the color fade i wanted. I was super nervous because i haven't dyed my hair in years but she gave me exactly what i asked for and made me feel comfortable in the process. I was very adamant about not wanting to have my roots bleached and needing to come in for touchups every few weeks and she skillfully made that happen while still giving me maximum drama. She clearly really understands hair and is always paying attention. Not only that, but she's a rad lady and super easy to talk to- and i hate forced conversation and definitely don't click with all stylists. My 4 hour appointment flew by and i never felt the least bit uncomfortable. All-in-all i had a stellar first experience at Vain and it was mostly because of Shaina.

    Danielle rocks.

I LOVE VAIN. I understand people are so serious about their hairstyles and don't wanna mess it up. I'm kinda a "picky" person, and I did a lot search to see pretty much all the reviews. I'm so happy I finally made the right decision! Definitely go check Danielle out. She is AMAZING!!! She got everything i want and our conversation during the process was so comfortable. She rocks!! I walked out with the color I ever tried before and the color I really loved now!!!!! Please please go to VAIN if you are still struggling with picking the right salon in Seattle.

I didn't receive an email or phone cancelation either. I confirmed my appointment in the email as well. My advice, if you can't show up, call me or email me. Also, it's especially not cool when it's a hair donation for a kid. I understand life happens, but I drove 1 hr for this. The least you can do is inform me of a cancelation. Also, just to add, I was also getting charged for the cut too. So the stylist was suppose to get paid/tipped.

They got me in for a consult the next day, showed genuine care and concern that made the awful situation seem less dire. I had not known that otherwise I would have rejected the appointment. My hair lifts easily, and Haley noted that. Despite that, she used too strong a developer and damaged my hair beyond belief. Not only that. She missed half of my head with toner. She noticed. And didn't tell me. She let me leave the salon with half of my head not toned. It's very noticeable from the back. I didn't see it at the appointment because she didn't show me the back - and now I know why. That's the worst of it, but she also didn't rinse my hair properly, so I still had product dried up and crusty in my hair. And she barely used any product while she blew out my hair on the highest heat, burning my scalp a couple of times and damaging my hair even more. And it was still a bit wet by the time I left. I'm usually pretty relaxed, so I didn't complain until after I went home and noticed that my head wasn't properly toned (which is also not that hard to do, I've done it myself during covid lockdowns - so it really is incredible that she messed up this bad and didn't say anything, hoping I wouldn't notice). Nothing about my experience with Haley was positive. Her work was incredibly sloppy, negligent, and dishonest. Edited to add (in response to Howie, the owner): You know the issue isn't with the toner itself - I did not see that she didn't do the back otherwise I obviously wouldn't have been "pleased". Again, you know this. I have a photo attached. You see how bad it is. I don't know why you're trying to act like that quality of service is okay. I didn't realize Red Chair's standards were so low, and I regret that I gave you all a shot :/ Also, I have to spend the holidays looking like this. So thanks for that.

It's been a week now since getting it cut, and sometimes when you do that first week (or even first wash) you have a moment where you're like "hey where'd all the cool haircut go, it's just mush again?" NOT SO. This one maintains great movement and texture even with just blow drying it the night before and tossing texturizer in it in the morning (which I got at a discount thanks to their welcome package).
