Vale Matcha and Coffee is relatively new cafe located in the South Lake Union area of Seattle. It is a a cozy little spot that also has outdoor seating, which is perfect for the spring and summer sunny days to come.  I ordered a 16 oz Miso Honey Matcha Slush because it sounded very unique from your typical selection of matcha drinks. I was surprised how quickly my drink was made and served to me since it was a pretty busy morning the Saturday morning I visited. Everyone's orders were made and served fairly quickly from what I observed.  It wasn't my favorite drink. However, it did take a while to finish the drink because the slush takes time to melt. With the drink slowly melting over time, it was perfect since I was sitting outside reading and enjoying the ambience of the area.  On their website they claim they use ceremonial grade matcha from Shizuoka, Japan. However, what threw me off was learning that they have matcha on tap.

I came by on a Friday morning to try the banana matcha. It wasn't crowded at all and we got our drinks very quick. The matcha was really smooth and the caramel drizzle on the inside had a really good flavor. The banana flavor was good and tasted like real banana. There were a few places to sit inside, but I imagine if it's busy it'd be hard to find a spot. I'd definitely come back here if I was in the area.

My strawberry matcha half mixed and enjoyed on the floor while waiting in line for the world cup. A good memory!

I went here while at Pacific Place for the World Cup. It was just the pick me up that I needed to get through hours waiting in line for a giveaway. Their workers were also very friendly. My photo shows my drink half mixed because I couldn't wait to try it, but it was beautiful when I was given it. The drink was great and I will be returning.

I loved the ambience, especially the outdoor seating. I finally visited today, and I'm so glad it was sunny and not windy. The chair outside looked uncomfortable at first, but once I sat down it was surprisingly cozy I honestly felt like I could stay there for hours. It's definitely a great cafe for reading or getting work done. I was also happy they serve Sea Wolf Bakery I love their dark chocolate cookies, so I got one along with a latte to enjoy there. The latte was just okay not amazing, not bad, just decent. The barista was sweet and very friendly, and she even overfilled my cup, which I appreciated. It's always nice to get a little extra rather than less!

Vale is a quaint and modern matcha shop located in SLU. There is street parking all around the area. Inside, they share a space next to a boutique hotel where there is seating downstairs and upstairs. For their menu, they have a nice selection of different coffee and matcha drinks to choose from. I ended up trying the Butter Pecan Matcha Latte and it was solid. All of the staff here are chill and welcoming. This is a great spot to grab a drink and go or to lounge around for a bit.

There are so many new matcha cafes in Seattle, and Vale is one of the top ones on my list. Using only ceremonial grade matcha, Vale is serving up delicious traditional and creative matcha drinks. Best of both worlds. They also have coffee and other teas, which you would think would be pretty basic options, but I got this amazing probiotic Hong Kong milk tea (made with miso, apparently!) that also came with a cookie to dip into the drink! Phenomenal and they have 24 oz cups, which is slowly sipped through as I spent the day working in the cafe. I say cafe, but it's actually a side attachment to a luxury apartment building, but it does have its own little seating area. You can also head up to the second floor of the apartment and sit in the lounge there too. It overlooks the cafe. They also work with a lot of other local businesses to provide pastries, cookies, coffee beans, and other products.

This spot is right in the heart of SLU and always caught my attention whenever I walked by because of the sign that says "matcha on tap."Right outside the entrance they even have a small matcha stand where they hand out samples sometimes, which is a nice touch. The cafe is attached to an apartment building and has a really cute, cozy vibe with an aesthetic mirror to take pictures. My go-to order is one of their breakfast sandwiches paired with either a strawberry matcha or a vanilla latte. They also offer lots of flavor options like earl grey, butter pecan, and banana, so it's a good place if you like switching up your drinks. They have a small selection of pastries as well. Prices are pretty comparable to most coffee and matcha spots which is around $7 depending on the size. The staff were also really friendly and provided great service. The only downside is that there are only about three tables to sit at.

Butter pecan matcha has my heart! It's a pretty cute and trendy cafe. Came on a weekend morning and it had a nice flow with nice music. Staff is very friendly. Prices are reasonable. I enjoyed the butter pecan matcha and their blueberry cornmeal muffin. Muffin was a tad bit dry but still ok. Maybe the other pastries are a better pick.

I finally checked out this place in South Lake Union and really enjoyed the experience. It's located in a quieter part of SLU, so it's easy to miss, but that also makes it a nice, calm stop. Seating is very limited both indoors and outdoors, though the area itself is open and walkable. The menu was more extensive than I expected, with a good variety of drinks and snacks. My seahawks inspired matcha latte came out to almost $9, which is definitely on the pricey side, but the matcha strength was solid. It was a bit too sweet for my taste, so I'd ask for less sweet next time. The staff was incredibly friendly. I came with my dog and they offered a pup cup, which was a huge win. The space is small but thoughtfully designed, with cute details throughout (including a trendy mirror moment). Would I come back? Yes! mainly to try other drinks, but ill ask for a less sweet version next time.

    Jasmine matcha cloud NOT GOOD
    Andii S.

The jasmine matcha cloud was a complete letdown. The jasmine tea was watery and did not stand out or perform on its own, and even when mixing the matcha foam in it just tasted like a really sad, watered down, unpleasant drink. It was so bad that I forced myself to go back in despite how much I do not like resorting to this to ask for a new drink. They were super kind about it and I went with a regular matcha latte which was much, much better. While it was a much better drink than the jasmine matcha cloud, it was still just okay overall and the matcha didn't stand out to me. Staff were incredibly nice, sweet, helpful, and patient though, so that made an otherwise negative experience much more pleasant. Also everything here is by default non dairy so this I place is great for folks that do milk alternatives.

I swear I got targeted on social media. It showed up as a sponsored ad on my feed, so naturally I went to google to vouch for it. Photos of the matcha was what intrigued me. Another plus point was that it was a 15 minute-ish walk from Pike Place. The shop is vibey. There's a cute body-length mirror for selfies. The shelves are full of hipster snacks. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Menu: they offer 4 sizes, so prices will depend on the drink size. The oat matcha latte is a go-to of mine. It was really good here. The banana matcha latte was mixed already, despite the photo showing it not mixed. I am not an expert on matcha, but I didn't like that there were questionable solids at the bottom of my hot matcha latte (with whole milk). I'm inclined to think that this means they handled the matcha improperly. Bad technique, no sifting? WiFi available No bathroom (that I saw) Indoor+outdoor seating available Credit card/Apple Pay accepted

Another matcha offering for the downtown Seattle area, they just keep coming! I went all out and took my friend and myself here around 2:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. This is inside a small section of a building called The Ayer, and the inside is already kinda fancy with the fancy-ish lighting, limited interior seating, expansive outdoor seating and merchandise of their own on a table near the ordering counter. It feels like a high-end cafe without all the noise of people talking since the area is slightly secluded from downtown Seattle itself. For this particular visit, there are three fall-based drink offerings in addition to their regular menu that consists of many of their signature matcha drinks and even regular coffee. Servers were pretty patient with us as they answered some of our questions on the menu. My friend and I each got a 16-oz banana matcha latte to try. The matcha tones were diluted, and I like my matcha strong as other matcha competitors around Seattle have been doing. It's not to say the floral and grassy tones weren't there, but the banana puree overwhelmed the drink to a point where I couldn't distinguish the matcha after downing half of it. I was really happy that this had oat milk as the default though, for someone who is slightly lactose intolerant. I also got a jasmine matcha cloud for my sis to try, and although I did not get a sip of the drink myself, she said that she could only taste the jasmine tea and nothing else. Looking back at the drink, it consisted way more of the jasmine tea than the matcha and milk combined. In turn, there was a much smaller layer of matcha compared to the jasmine tea itself. I realized this isn't a one-off thing; their matcha tones are lacking in their drinks. This spot wouldn't be a go-to location for me when I'm looking for matcha but I can see this spot being pretty nice for those who want an introduction to matcha itself or don't particularly like it as much. I'll stick to nearby places like Nana's Green Tea for now.

Overall I liked this matcha space, I'm not a huge matcha fan yet (def prefer when it has a flavor like strawberry or something) which made me really like the strawberry matcha here. It's def one of the stronger strawberry taste and sweeter matcha I've had in the area and so one of My favorites. I really didn't like the banana matcha but banana flavored things aren't usually my fav and wasn't my order. Service was nice, small spot but nice cute and bright.

They clearly care about their image as they offer a free mug for first-time customers with an email sign-up. The drinks here are ok, but they average between $8-$10 each. I think the pricing is just much too high. You're paying for the vibes, not for a great cup of coffee. The matcha we tried was mediocre. There are so many other great places for coffee in Seattle, for just a fraction of the price. I think Storyville is preying on tourists visiting the market. They probably have to charge that much to keep the 8 employees milling about behind the counter employed. The space does have lots of seating, but it was nearly full during our early afternoon visit. Save your money, find another great local coffee spot!

This was on a Sunday afternoon close to 5pm, and there were still so many people occupying nearly every seat inside. I did come back to try their matcha matcha drink only to find it gone from their current menu as of May 2026. Instead, their turon matcha immediately caught my eye, as it has banana and I've been obsessed with banana-flavored toppings and puree on my matcha lately. It has matcha and house banana puree, both of which work well together. The tiny layer of house banana puree has all the flavor, especially when you mix the whole drink together. Very refreshing, and their ceremonial matcha's grassy tones still came out despite the banana puree being just as strong in the drink. Their matcha here comes pretty close to making it to the highest spots on my list of my most favorite matcha places in Seattle. Even if it isn't on the top of that list, their drinks are still 5+ star quality.
