I ordered food then a beer. Bartender pours it then my cousin asked a question about a beer and ordered two. 45 min later, still no food. I ask him if it's coming and he admits, "oh I don't have a food order for you." I'm like "I ordered the chicken tenders". He's like "yeah but then WE got distracted by the beer". He then GASLIGHTS me and says "this is the first I'm hearing about food" even though he just admitted he heard me order it (I even pointed to the menu when I ordered it and he asked a clarifying question about sauce) and "got distracted". (You got distracted, dude; not me. I don't work here). Then sarcastically, he says "the customer is always right". Just admit your mistake! Don't be a jerk when you're in the wrong. I immediately closed my tab and left. Won't be back. It's the rude Aussie if anyone is wondering who. read more

The atmosphere is really cute and trendy in this bar. All of the tables were occupied when we got there but there were two seats left at the bar. The beer list was ok. Many low ABV beers but lots of choices. My husband and I opted for the Flower Power which is one of my go-to's. We also ordered a Bavarian pretzel which was disappointing. Way too much salt on top for my liking but I easily brushed much of it off. The server was nice enough but nothing really stood out about this place to make it highly recommend. read more

I absolutely love this place for a great selection of craft beer in Manhattan. I would travel from outside of Manhattan for craft beer options and also cause BarBacon is across the street. Valhalla has food options as well and they do a great job of daily specials but the star of the show here is the 48 beer options. Bartenders are great and the options are pretty endless. Would I come back? Absolutely! Every time I'm in NYC I find the time to make it to Valhalla! read more

Valhalla is one of my favorite craft beer bars in all the city. Been here on weekdays and the weekends and yet I've never had a disappointing experience. Beer- constantly rotating their draft beer selection which is ideal for all craft beer drinkers out there. The bottle and can list has so many options broken down into the types of beers. I could recommend so many beers to try but that'd pretty much take up my whole day. Atmosphere- this place is popular and can get packed, but I've always gotten a table or seat at the bar. The service is great as the bartenders/servers are constantly coming over to get you another drink and let you sample whatever they have on draft. At night time they dim the lights which is something I really enjoy when relaxing and enjoying a good beer. Comfortable wooden tables and stool seating all over the bar and the display at the bar is a sight. As they show off the many bottles beers and the impressive hard alcohol selection. The happy hour is pretty good, and the food is better than your average bar food. One time a friend and I came here late night on a Sunday night and at 2am they offer a great and cheap wing deal. Best beer spot in the Hells Kitchen area for sure and one of my favorite in the city....... read more

Valhalla is awesome. I arranged a meetup for my beer club here during NY Craft Beer week and it was, from start to end, a great experience. Dealing with Matt getting everything set up was a breeze. He reserved tables for us, set up a special beer flight and generally made us feel incredibly welcome. Megan and Alex were also awesome, helpful and friendly in recommending and providing beers. The place itself isn't huge but even though it was crowded it didn't seem oppressive. There were reps from Blue Point and Greenport Harbor there that night as well and many of the members had a great time speaking with them. The beer selection is great and I received a lot of compliments on choosing this place for a meetup. The people who got the special flights really enjoyed them. Prices were fine as well and they did have some specials until 8:00 pm, which is always welcome! Service was great throughout the night. They really have a great team at Valhalla. I've been getting lots of feedback about how fun the meetup was so I'll definitely want to go back, both with beer club and also with other friends. All I wanted was one beer but they wouldn't charge my card. It's a $10 minimum on card. Also they demanded I open up a tab. I was by myself at 12pm. It wasn't necessary to do that. Even the bartender felt bad and said "not my rules sorry" Overall nice selection of draft beers but I felt like I was treated with a lot of suspicion and like I was gonna walk out on the tab...excuse me I'm cute.... What happened to this place? They used to have a cool staff and great drink prices! All of a sudden, since the holidays, it's all new people and they are terrible. The Fat Guy behind the bar is always going out for a smoke or texting, the skinny guy ignores customers. Terrible service! Only 2 people I recognize and they are gems, thank goodness. I have taken to only coming in when I know they are working. As for the prices, they have jacked them up considerably. What used to be a $9-11 bar is now edging towards $13-14. Unfortunately, I will have to find a new place to hang soon. It's just not the same anymore. read more

For NYC, this is a fantastic beer bar with 48 taps. There are beers for every taste, and I was impressed by the wide range of appeal from the clientele. For example, there were two 65-year-old ladies enjoying a beer and French fries at one table, a group of 20-something's doing Happy Hour at another table, and a couple guys in business suits at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and attentive and a good time was had by all. A good place to avoid the summer heat in some air conditioning and watch the NYC crowds stroll by. Food is limited here. Mostly appetizer items like soft pretzels and French fries. I'll definitely go back if I'm ever in the neighborhood again. read more

In this day and age of great beers, this place's selection leaves a lot to be desired...and the service is even worse, and you can smell the bathrooms through half of the bar. I hadn't been for about 7 years, but was almost instantly reminded of how lacking the hospitality was here, when a waitress told us we couldn't sit at a table in case a larger party came. We agreed we would get up if one came, and 5 minutes later she asked us to move, though no large group showed up for that table before we left. read more

Was surprised with this place , they have a good list of beer on the draft and the prices are pretty! Personally, I really appreciated cider with unpronounceable name ( Sweden ) that taste like lime and strawberry, so deliciously good ! Never tried something like that ). Also what to complement waitress, they are working fast and always available when tuners them ! The only thing that I didn't really appreciate is very loud music , so you need to scream if you are in a company more then 2 to hear each other . read more

I have been here many times. I met my now-husband here over six years ago. They have a great selection of beers as well as wine and spirits for those aren't into beer. The food menu isn't huge, but it is really good; lots of good stuff to choose from. I have always had a good experience with the service. I always enjoy coming here. read more

I cannot believe I never wrote a review about my absolutely favorite beer bar in the city. I may be biased as this place was less than three blocks from my former apartment BUT this bar is fantastic if you're looking for a great beer selection, no frills decorations, and seldom bridge and tunnel crowd go-ers. The beer taps are in constant rotation and are happy to offer little sips if you aren't sure what you want. Great for a nice day, great for happy hour, great for a night out, and great for a sleepless night for "Angry Hour". Please don't get angry though, there's really no need to get angry in a (beer) hall for the fallen. Pretzels are slightly hard on the outside and so soft and pillow-y on the inside; perfection. Served salted or unsalted, grab that mustard packet and go to town. The fries are also really crispy and perfectly seasoned. All great for beer snacks. read more

I was so pleasantly surprised by this find my neighborhood! I came in on a Sunday evening, around 11 PM, and there were a good number of people there. This place is seat yourself, and the menus are already on the table. They have a large selection of beers and ciders, I was so pleasantly surprised by the ciders! We also came on Sunday evening football, so they had five dollars on tap, and five dollar wings. The wings were absolutely phenomenal. My friend also got their nachos, in their cheese is really good! Had a really bad experience here. They spilled a drink on my friend and were SUPER confrontational when we asked them to shout us a round for doing so. Normally, at any restaurant or bar, if a server spills a drink on you, they offer something as an apology. A drink, a side of fries, whatever. That's standard across high end or low end restaurants. But not at Valhalla, apparently. Look, I don't go anywhere wanting free drinks. This review isn't about free drinks. This is about how rude they were to me and my friend after they spilled a drink on her. Also, this is about how they didn't offer a profuse apology or round of fries or drinks or something. And honestly, had they OFFERED something like that, we most likely would have said no, it's fine. But the fact that they didn't offer was really rude, man. And putting us in the position to have to ask for something that is pretty universally standard in restaurants is also really rude. Anyhow, after spilling a drink on my buddy, they cleaned it up and were kind of apologetic, but weren't very nice about it (we didn't spill the drink, a waitress did). Then, when the bill comes out, I say: "hey, a waitress spilled a drink on my friend, it's really uncomfortable to be out in the position to have to actually ask for this, but could you shout us a round of drinks? Also, why are you making me ask rather than offering?" The waitress said she couldn't do that and a manager had to authorize it. My though on the manner was, Okaaaay, so why didn't you ask him back when it happened? I didn't say that, I just said, okay, please go tell the manager what happened then. The waitress then comes back and tells us they'll shout us a round and she has a guy with her who glares at us and looks angry while we pay the bill. I mean, this guy was looking at us like I had just killed his first born. So I asked if I could speak to the manager (full on "Karen" status, lol) because I want to let them know what happened and maybe have this guy stop glaring at me like he was about to start a fight. Buuut it turns out that glaring-McAngeryson is the manager and he comes up to me as if he wants to fight. At this point I say the heck with it, we got our round shouted, so no need to escalate, and we just leave. Now I understand why the waitresses didn't ask to make an offer; their manager is a really angry person who, if he treats customers like that, then he probably treats his staff much worse. It seems likely that the waitresses didn't ask him because they knew he'd be really angry to them as a response. Anyhow, there are a lot of better places to go in midtown, where if they spill a drink on you they'll apologize effusively and ask if they can get you a fries or a drink or something on the house. Pretty standard stuff for a bar or restaurant really. But not at Valhalla. read more

Stopped in on a Sunday on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. Large room with lots of wood and signage everywhere for their drink menus. They have something like 35 drafts and 30 bottles, plus a wine, cider, and whiskey/bourbon/scotch menu. We had a friendly bartender who poured us some beers- I had the $10 peanut butter stout and husband had a $8 porter. Both very good. Next, I had a breakfast stout. They had a pretty solid selection of beers. The lunch special is what bumped this from 3 to 4 stars for me. For $15 you can get something off their lunch menu and any beer. My stout was $10 and we ordered the $15 chicken sliders, so it was a good savings. Granted, the chicken sliders are overpriced at $15, but they were good. We also ordered a $4 pretzel which is definitely not like those large German ones. It's a small Super Pretzel. As we hung out, the place got busier. Definitely seems like a solid go-to place for people in the area. read more

This place is super affordable and has an amazing selection of beers on tap. I recommend the strawberry harvest if you like fruity beers. The place has a really great vibe and was not too crowded, which was exactly what we were looking for for after work drinks (although probably not a great spot for groups bigger than 3 or 4). Wow! Dive bar with a great selection of craft beers! Amazed by the number of the beers they have. They have a good number on tap and a lot more bottles. Came here on a Friday night after deciding for a while on where to go in the area. It was slightly busy when we arrived but got progressively busier and louder as the night progressed. I had the Sierra Nevada octoberfest and my friends had a grapefruit IPA and a Belgium tripel. They also had a house rose for 5$ a day which I tried and was horrible (I know it's cheap but was expecting it to have some semblance to any wine but it didn't). Overall great place to chill after work or meet friends around 9th av. Too noisy to bring a date here though great place if you're into craft beers. read more

I like this bar. Great selection of beer, and at good prices. They even give you the correct glass for some of the more obscure options. It feels like a miniature beer hall; perhaps not as majestic as Norse mythology would have you believe, but a solid place nonetheless. However, I believe Valhalla has a fundamental flaw: the bathroom setup. There is one urinal, and it's right in front of the bathroom door, on the side wall. This means that when you open the door, there's a 77% chance that you're coming face to face with another man's junk. This would not be an issue, but, as the guy I walked in on warned me, the lock seems to be untrustworthy. I'm not sure who was more surprised when I opened that door. If Mystikal were to conclude this review, he might say: Drink your beer! But watch yourself. I don't want to see what you're working with. Once again, I apologize if you've heard me sing, and you just relived the horror. read more

This place used to be better but its still pretty awesome. They have SOME decent beers on tap. I say SOME because at first blush there look to be something like 50 taps running along the back wall. That sounds and looks like a ton. But once you dig in and start to get a thought or two on what they are offering, me thinks you will be slightly disappointed. If they are carrying beer from the Brooklyn Brewery (which I live close to and LOVE), that right there will knock off 3-4 taps of beer they have everyone. How about Goose Island (not my favorite) that will be another 4-5. Point is, they should be a little more adventurous and try some new things. Have some events to try new things. Think outside the box. There are 3 bars in the neighborhood with the exact same "business model" and each of them do it just a little bit better than my old spot... read more

I've been here approximately 2 times, once at night with a huge group of friends and once with only 3 friends in the day time before a concert (yesterday...The Shins @ Terminal 5 which is relatively nearby) - both times I've had a fun time here and they generally attract fun people of the non-douchey kind. Beer selection here is excellent (24 different awesome beers on tap with more beers to choose from in cans/bottles!), they have a good variety of craft beers from all over and they're priced pretty reasonably. Yesterday I asked if they had Albita Strawberry (which was NOT on their beer menu) and they DID HAVE IT - this is only the second bar in NYC that has had it upon me asking about it. The food here isn't awful, but it's not exactly anything to write home about. My friend and I split their cheesy, beef nachos and their cheeseburger sliders with french fries. The beef on the nachos could have been seasoned better and been less dry, however what saved the nachos for me was that they didn't use artificial cheese sauce, but rather actual melted cheese - and a very healthy (read...unhealthy...technically, lol) amount of melted yummy cheese. The sliders were also dry (although I am biased because I like my burgers/sliders on the medium rare/juicy side) and not insanely full of flavor. The fries were really good and they took care to keep some potato skin on each fry which is something I LOVE. Other friends with me ordered their beer battered fried pickles and if I remember correctly their feedback was positive. The music here was also AWESOME, they played Interpol, Fleet Foxes, Arctic Monkeys, Goyte...and they've got picnic tables which give this place a (really small) beer garden kinda vibe. The meaning for "Valhalla" is a Norse mythology which means "hall of the slain". This is a majestic, enormous hall located in Asgard, which is ruled over by the god Odin. So lets get this straight, if a Viking would die an honorable death, they are accepted in Asgard. I am pretty sure Asgard doesn't have the quality and quantity of fine crafts as Valhalla does here in Hells Kitchen. This is basically an establishment that serves one purpose, lets get happy, its pretty much their code. This is simply a joint or this establishment is for all (21 and over) to come in relax, take a load off , or put a load on. No fancy decor, none of that jibba jabba you'd see everywhere else. Thor, Odin and every other band of folklore would clearly appreciate the crafts on tap, with the bottle selections served in here. I am also sure the libation gods of Boulevard, Victory, Brooklyn, Oskar and so forth would gladly appreciate any of your selections. With those mentioned Valhalla never carries the same old craft. I mean , not that there is nothing wrong with that , these guys keep things in a constant rotation. Variety is a choice in life kiddies, remember that. The liquor is pretty much on point in case you can't find a craft or bottle that agrees with you. They also serve food, and by the looks of their menu it seems to be pretty standard bar fare. The service was ok, they kept us happy for the 3 rounds we were in here for. In all I'd come back again for another pint , and maybe this time I'll bring a Viking horned helmet with me. read more

In an attempt to maintain my reputation, I absolutely maintain that this is a beer aficionado's bar! There's a long bar lined with a variety of not-your-average brews, including wheat ales, regular ales, and darker varieties. The choice of hops nearly made my heart flutter. If you're new to beers, or just unable to make up your mind, they offer a choice of different beer flights that allow you to try several. The service was great, given the length of the bar; even when it got busier, I never had a problem flagging down the bartender for another round. Valhalla has a great selection of beers. They're priced toward the higher side of life, but I appreciate the non-pretentiousness. Furthermore, the garden feel of benches and picnic tables is unique. It's loud, but you can hear your friends around the table for the most part. I was a bit surprised when other people busted out the boot-beer glasses. A cute little pub, you can't go wrong. Heavier on the beer options like a true bar BUT I appreciate the small array of cocktail options they included (and wine obviously). It was a very loud atmosphere as a heads up, which isn't necessarily bad, but more of a heads up on what to expect. There is table and bar seating and you can order food as well which is always a plus when you are drinking a lot. read more

Came here on Saturday to grab some lunch and watch the World Cup. Lots of TVs so great place to watch the games. Strong craft beer list with a lot of options from the US as well as German, Belgian and other international varieties. They had 3 or 4 beers on Nitro as well. They had a lunch special for $14 that includes food and a beer. I got the beef sliders which came with french fries. Solid bar food - the french fries were crispy and tasted fresh versus frozen. Relaxed atmosphere, decent food and good beer list make this a great place to watch a game. read more

These guys have a lot of beer. The list is extensive: plenty of draught and bottled beers. They definitely emphasize the US craft beers, but there's a little of everything. As a tourist, I like that they marked the brewed beers. Service was fantastic. We went on a Thursday night, and engaged in fun banter with the people working behind the bar. The bartenders are very laid-back and knowledgeable. I seem to remember the music selection to also be very good. The noise level is perfect, and the people-watching was pretty good as well. Excellent beer bar that feels equal parts Williamsburg, Prospect Heights, and LES. Our large group was seated almost immediately (this place was Cinco de Mayo-proof). The brews were unique and plentiful, with that rare balance of Western European and American picks. Our waiter looked like a skate boarder but did his job well enough. They even had landjäger (German beef jerky). Valhalla seems to attract the younger set, if you're into that. It's comfy and a good place to while away some hours, for sure. read more
