D.J. Reynolds is such a classic Irish bar and an awesome neighborhood spot in Hell's Kitchen. The bartenders are super friendly, there are plenty of TVs to catch the game, and the vibe is exactly what you want, cozy, welcoming, and laid-back. We stopped by after a concert and it was perfect for a late-night drink and fries since the kitchen stays open late. It was quiet enough to actually talk, which was such a bonus. And the holiday decor? It felt like a Christmas explosion in the best way possible. It was so festive and fun. read more

I have been coming here for years after Kennedy's closed. I like it here, it feels like my local. The food is good, the drinks are cold and the bartenders are friendly! I enjoy watching the clientele come in and out throughout the day. and occasionally, I run into an old friend or 2. Otherwise, I generally meet someone new and always have a good conversation. Came here post NYC 1/2 Marathon. It's always packed so we didn't expect to get a table but when we walked in we were greeted right away and were told a table would be ready in 5 minutes and they delivered! We had a huge group of 9 people too! We had a wait to finally see a waiter. No big deal. We were thrilled to have been seated so quickly. For some odd reason the drinks came out scattered over the next half hour although we all ordered the same thing. We were worried the food would arrive in the same manner but by the time the last drink arrived the food was coming out at the same time. The food was fresh, hot and flavorful. Some friends got the classic Irish meals like shepherds pie and it was delicious! I got a basic club sandwich. The sandwich & French fries it came with were great!! The service was meh for midtown but we wanted a drink in a quieter location. The server was a bit surly, and they also tried to charge two of our party for an additional drink. The food is overpriced but decent for pub food. And there really aren't a lot of options in that area of 57th and midtown. Most amazing Irish pub on the West Side. Love this place. My daughter goes to school close by, and every time I come to visit I stop in for a few. Bartenders are amazing and remember me from last visits and what I drink (not to mention keep me full). Great Irish pub feel with great regulars who are even welcoming to a Red Sox fan (yes, hat on). My partner and I took my elderly Great Aunt to D.J. Reynolds on Friday night for dinner and had one of worst service experiences in my life. First, there was no one to seat us at a table and the bartender ignored us waiting. Once seated, we waited for 15 minutes before someone came to take our drink orders. After waiting for another 15 minutes, my partner went to the bar to inquire since our waitress was nowhere to be found. We found out that our drink orders had not been put in. Finally, we had to go to the bar again to ask for our check. If my Aunt wasn't using a walker I would have walked out after 2 minutes, however she had good experience there in the past with the owner, Dennis. After our experience, she was embarrassed that she recommended taking us there and said she will never return as a customer. I rarely write reviews and give people the benefit of the doubt more often than I probably should. D.J. Reynolds, however, was truly a terrible experience with staff who clearly did not care and were rude and aloof. There are plenty of Irish pubs in New York City, especially in Midtown. Please do yourself a favor and pick any other establishment other than this one. read more

It had been several years since I was last at DJ Reynolds but found myself there today with my daughter (who had just celebrated her first holy communion), my wife, and a couple of friends. From the moment we stepped in the ambience was extremely cordial and Dennis was the preeminent host of us, making us feel not only welcome but like we were old friends. I will also add that D.J. That a badd place to grab a drink but if you're looking for super cheap or an extensive happy hour menu this is not it. Though they do have very good choices for well drinks/liquors they will still run you about 8 to $10 for a mix drink. Even draft beers were about 8 bucks for happy hour. The bartenders were pretty no nonsense type ladies but they were friendly enough to grab a drink and get by. Would I come back maybe, maybe not. They do have real ginger beer for dark and stormy seas or any other drink of that type. read more

My go to neighborhood pub. Padraig, Anna and Vinny are friendly bartenders. The beers are cold and the food is surprisingly good for such a local pub. Great selection of whiskeys and a welcoming atmosphere for both tourists and locals. read more

Wanting to watch the NCLS and the ACLS games last week, I stumbled into this bar/restaurant because as much as I love baseball, I love Guinness just as much! I plopped down at the bar and watched the whole game, taken care of by the fab bartender, Vinnie. His Irish brogue is delightful to listen to! I treated myself to their pot pie (no, there's no POT in it!) and several Guinness. Met two new friends who were also visiting NYC and will be long time friends, too. I wish Canadians would stop sullying the good name of bacon. I don't know how they weaseled their mediocre ham into the standard Eggs Benedict, but there it is. Anyhoo (this is my first time saying 'anyhoo'), DJ Reynolds is actually a surprisingly solid choice for a large group brunch/lunch. They handled our giant party quite well, including bringing me alcohol in a timely enough fashion that made dealing with family quite easy, and even pleasant. The food is not particularly special, but they make a decent Eggs Benny, a slightly weak Cobb salad, and although their fries are of the steak variety, they were actually not terrible. I don't think we would've ended up there if it wasn't in honor of my great aunt (96 years young!), because she doesn't stray more than a block from her building next door, but you could do a lot worse. read more

A full-service bar with only one bar tender, who is of Irish background, serve nearly twenty something patrons on a Tuesday night is insufficient coverage to create utterly slow service. Music is monster truck loud to drown one's conversation or deep thoughts. Five large plasma TV screens plaster the walls of the bar viewing all Major League Baseball games of the night: NY Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers and NY Mets vs. Houston Astros. There are no hooks under the bar for bags or personal belongs as I sat with my purse on my lap in full view. Facilities contains minimal amenities and are uncleaned with rubbish exposed next to the Porcelain King. There are no hooks in the two stalls of the washrooms for bags or jackets. Thus, I rate D.J. Reynolds two stars for mediocre with regards to quality of food, customer service, and average decor. read more

MUST WATCH THE BADGER GAME. ROSEBOWL. YES! Rushed out of Lincoln center Saturday in a scurry to find a sports bar to watch the last half of the MSU vs. UW game and found a giant sign "PUB." THEY GOTTA HAVE TV's... as we scampered along we hurriedly told the barkeep, TV! BADGER GAME, OVER THERE. K. THANK YOU. ok, now we're calmly sitting and can see a tv. aaaah. relaxation has set over. Took a while for a bartender to greet us, and asked if there was a drink menu & what were the specials, b/c we saw a board outside.... Turns out, you don't get the specials if you're in the dining area. butt sticks. point # 2, the menu didn't have prices. I hate when that happens. We all ordered beers and one plate of wings. IT WAS OK. the tv's did not seem to be HiDef. Yeah that's right I just complained about quality of TV. ALSO, no sound on the tv. Minus a star because Budlight and Yuengling were the same price... Surprisingly delicious meal! My friend and I were looking for a place to get out of the rain and stumbled upon this place....it looked like any other Irish pub in NYC but the food was fantastic! When you enter the restaurant it's primarily a bar and lounge area but towards the rear you'll find cozy booths and tables for dining. We were provided with a basket of mixed bread (rye, raisin, and onion roll) along with butter to get us started. We ordered the burger and the baked scrod and both were extremely tasty and flavorful! They have a diverse menu with sandwiches, entrees, and specials. The prices were very reasonable for the areas (many items in the $10-$20 range). The portions were large and the service was attentive and quick. Will definitely return to this little place if I'm in the area in the future! read more

I stopped in D.J. Reynolds this last Saturday because the humidity in NYC was killing me and I needed to hydrate with some bourbon! I had intended to only have a drink and some water, but I was in the path between the kitchen and the front of the bar and I kept watching the waitress passing me by with plate after plate of delicious food. After breaking down, I ordered the Oak Smoked Irish Salmon which consisted of imported Irish salmon served with greens, chopped egg, onions, and capers with pumpernickel bread. The greens and vegetables were crisp and fresh, the bread tasted like it had just been baked, and the portion of smoked salmon was HUGE! What I was thinking of as being a light lunch wound up keeping me satisfied the rest of the day. I've posted a photo of the Irish Salmon under the pictures section of D.J. Reynolds. We had very high hopes for this place, as we love Irish Pubs. In a lot of ways we were let down. We were seated close to the back of the pub, in a corner booth that was very tight, to the point of being uncomfortable. I could not even move my legs. My friend and I both ordered the French Onion soup, as we had been walking in the cold all day long. When it came out and was lukewarm, and they use mozzarella cheese, not the Swiss or Gruyere I am used to. The soup was relatively bland. Very average. I ordered a cheesesteak and my friend a rueben. My cheesesteak was awful! A chewy, bland, unseasoned slab of meat. Served on a plain roll (not garlic as stated on the menu), with a slice of American cheese..... YUK. My friends rueben was ok, but nothing great. The service was horrible. No one checked back to see if we needed anything. We had to ask for our check twice, and three different people were waiting on us. With all of the choices in the area, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more
