I believe this Vallarta Supermarket used to be another grocery store maybe a Ralphs or a Vons. Anyway, glad to see Vallarta expanding all over. This location is at Edgewood Shopping Center in Azusa. They aren't as big as some of their other locations. I came here for fresh guacamole, maple syrup, and whipped butter for a team potluck lunch. Plenty of parking. Store was bright and clean. Shelves were well organized. I didn't have much time to peruse all the aisles and sections. I found my 3 items and went straight to the register. Check-out was fast and easy. Staff was friendly. No long lines. Maybe it was still early in the morning. It was a very quick visit. It's definitely worth another visit the next time I'm in the area. Vallarta has so much to offer and love. I came here to pick up a meal (rotisserie chicken with beans and rice). I waited in line for about 10 minutes, and the whole time I was being ignored by the workers. One employee even skipped me and helped someone else. After about 20 minutes, someone finally helped me. Unfortunately, they were out of rice, so the worker told me to give him a minute. Eight minutes later, nothing. Another worker then told me it was going to be a long while and recommended that I get the cold rice instead. I was finally about to check out when a rude employee interrupted the cashier to tell her to go on break. They proceeded to have a full conversation while I stood there waiting to be checked out. They even argued back and forth in front of me about when she should go on break. For a Mexican grocery store, the food was disappointing. The rice was dry and the beans were tasteless. The chicken had no flavor and was more burnt than anything. To be honest, Costco's rotisserie chicken tastes a lot better. read more

This supermarket opened three weeks ago, and based on how crowded it was during my recent visit, it was needed in this neighborhood and is the most popular grocery market. I was impressed with the entire layout of the market, all the bright colors, the lively music playing over the sound system, the clearly marked sections throughout the store, the numerous offerings of a wide variety of products, and the excellent customer service. Prices on many items were better than in other markets; however, on the flip side, prices on several items were much higher, such as milk, fruit, and meat. Overall, this is a great market to shop for specialty items, but it's definitely not a market to shop for every item you may need for your kitchen. read more

Visited this store on the first weekend since the grand opening. I'm reviewing the store overall, as I have not tried the hot foods. The store is clean, spacious, and well lit. There is plenty of parking in this plaza. The line was long to order food, so I'm planning to return to try the soups. Fresh tamales are set up just inside the entrance. The check out lanes were not bad when I went this Saturday late morning. The cashier was quick and efficient in scanning items. Shop at this newly opened Vallarta in the city of Azusa. Busy, busy, busy. Be prepared to wait in line if you are planning to eat at their small eating area and checkout station. Though it's busy, it has a very lively atmosphere, music played and colorful layout. It has a wide variety of produce items and meat/seafood selections. So many choices of Pan Dulce and fresh bolillo bread. They also have a small station for their signature tamales and abundant supply of masa. I am so excited to visit this Mexican Market!!! I had been to the location in Irvine. So glad they have one here next to my home! Except they don't have the chain Churros shop. Wish they have it here too! I went yesterday and it was packed even it was raining. I got so much food from them! Not everything was good but I definitely love most of it! The grilled whole chicken is definitely delicious and pretty good priced. The BBQ ribs are not bad either. I tried their chicken vegetable soup and I think it was too expensive and too salty. Also got their 3 tacos plate and it was just okay. Wouldn't order it again. I think there are much better tacos around. Got some of their fish ceviche and it's pretty good!!! Another favorite is their prepackaged guacamole! It's expensive but it's great quality! We also love love love their fresh baked French bread!!! Super soft! They have nice Bakery section too. Their grocery sections looks fresh but more pricey than other Mexican markets but I think it looks more fresh in my opinion. read more

This review is strictly for the cooked food department. This past weekend my boyfriend and I went in to try some tacos, chile rellenos and pupusas. The tacos were ok nothing special. The chile relleno was the disappointing part...I don't know if I got unlucky but I got a chile with no cheese in it. I was so bummed out because I had been craving a chile relleno and finally went in and was served a chile with no cheese as shown in picture. Okay so the store itself is beautiful. Everything is clean and looks so fresh and well presented. The staff is friendly and willing to help. The prices are pretty high. I guess comparable to Superior but definitely much higher than Aldi or Walmart. The market that was in this same location before, did not survive because prices were just too high. One thing I find interesting is although they have 2 doors like most stores, they keep one locked all the time with a sign 'use other door'. And they choose to close and lock the door next to the only 2 handicapped spots they have. Lack of handicapped spots and also, they lock the closest door to those spots. That's just not very good 'load management'. I see people eating at the food court sometimes, but I haven't seen any good reviews of the food court. Overall, I'd just have to say Okay so far. I've bought some stuff there I absolutely needed but the prices are generally only good for me for sales. Just call me Mr. Frugal. read more

A brand new store with a long meat counter. They say the meat is graded USDA Choice. We tried the $6.99 a pound beef flanken ribs and they were comparable to the Asian markets that sell the same cut. The meat counter is very popular with ticketed service. I only bought the concha pan dulce which were 4 for $5. They were fresh and soft and the sugar topping stayed on unlike some places that fall off when you bite into thr bread. read more

It's a brand-new market in the city of Azusa, and everything is bright, clean, and well organized. Time will tell how long it stays this way, but first impressions are great. I'm so happy to finally have a Vallarta locally! The only downside? It's crowded. The isles are narrow and it's hard to navigate with all the people coming to check it out. I love that they have fresh sushi, pan dulce, and all the Latino groceries I could ever want. I did try the hot foods and found them to be too salty. High prices and poor customer service. In a largely Spanish-speaking community, I'm disappointed by both the pricing and the level of customer service. Given that this business operates in a predominantly Spanish-speaking community, the absence of bilingual staff negatively impacts the customer experience. Companies are a reflection of their employees, and I believe there is significant room for improvement in how this location serves its community. A brand new supermarket that recently opened. I ordered the three taco plate. The food was great, but they forgot the verde salsa. I also ordered the chicken tamale, it tasted good but it's a little on the smaller side. First day open, which is chaotic & I understand. Some of the groceries they have out is a bit more than others nearby. It's kind of like Whole Foods but the Latino version. Be aware & shop around. read more

I've now had three separate occasions where items rang up higher than the advertised price in this store. It's extremely frustrating especially because I realize it after I've left. As a customer, I shouldn't have to babysit the cashier during checkout to make sure prices are correct. Accurate pricing is their responsibility, and repeated discrepancies is bad for business. People can file consumer complaints for this. I tried to reach out for a solution to this matter on their website and it turns out it will take 6 weeks to hear back! Wha a joke! read more

I went to the Azusa Vallarta this morning. For it to be a new store I was extremely disappointed that only one cashier was working and the line was so long to pay! I asked one worker if I could speak with supervisor and he said he didn't know who the supervisor was...I asked the cashier if he could call for back up...as the line just kept getting longer and longer... someone finally came to open another register as I asked if someone could open another register....she told me she was but that she was going to go with the next person in line ...who I was behind...as I go to get back in line another man who was not in line went to her and she checked him out... the customer service needs a lot of attention. It's a busy season and they need to have cashiers be attentive if the lines are getting longer... I would have gladly gone to self check out but I was buying gift cards. read more
