I was really liking this market, from the agua frescas to ceviche....everything was going great. Then I bought some of their refried beans to make some nachos. Fast forward a day to nacho day, happy day....until chomp! A good-sized rock decided to pick a fight with my back molar. Teeth vs rock...rock always wins. It was real shitty because I chipped a molar and now the filling on that molar has to be removed. I emailed Vallarta's corporate to alert them and make sure they step up the detail on refried bean making and clean them properly. I received a reply a few days later that my email was being sent to management...that was 2 months ago. I have not heard a thing from them since. No apology, no explanation, no remedy, no nothing. Vallarta replaced a Vons that closed months ago. Compared to Vons it's cleaner, brighter, nicer and has some great extras like hot food options, fresh sushi, juices and aguas frescas. The prices however are some of the highest around. The produce is good, they have organic options but you'll pay about the same as you would at Whole Foods (ie $6/small box organic strawberries). They have great prepared food. The chiken mole and encheladas are solid but at $8/lb, its a little pricey. Some of the basics like milk, eggs and cheese are more expensive than any other local markets. The juice bar and aguas frescas are great and priced right. For everything else prices are better elsewhere. I'll stick to Trader Joe's and Superking for my Pasadena food shopping. read more

This grocery store is specializing in Latin American foods and ingredients, it's clean, and it's got most things you might need in a market. I really like the fresh guacamole they have, its nicely done and doesn't have any preservative junk in it that the packaged guacamole usually has, but it's a little pricy. I stumbled upon Yerba Mate there from Argentina, I am excited to try it out, along with the tortillas from Argentina. If you're looking for health food, or sugar free/unsweetened chocolate, sorry but they do not have such things. That was my only disappointment, having to go to a separate store for my other needs, but if you need basics or ingredients for some sort of Latin inspired cuisine this is highly recommended! read more

Hands down the best lay out for a full size grocery store that I have seen/been to in the Pasadena area. There are smaller markets that I like as well along with Aldi but I think those fall into a different category! Vallarta has so much under one roof which makes it fun to shop! There is a great juice bar, amazing deli, huge produce, seafood and meat selection, great bulk bin items, extensive bakery, sushi, every kind/size tortilla/wrap a nice place to sit for a drink or bite, the card sections is great, you could put an impromptu gift together easily. Absolute worst experience! The lady taking my order at the " La Cocina" station was angry, rude and didn't even know the schedule for their advertised foods. I asked for the Guacamole your way and she rudely said that was in a different station even though the advertisement for Guacamole was in front of her. I proceeded to order 3 Quesa Tacos, 2 Carnitas and 1 asada. And As expected the order was wrong, she gave me 3 carnitas and no asada. No problem, it can be fixed. I told my husband to start eating his tacos and I would go order another taco ( asada) so I tell her, you gave me the wrong order. She then proceeded to say, I don't think so! Show me the plate, I say " no" as my husband is already eating. I'm not looking to get a free taco, I can pay for it but she continues to say that she needs to see the plate. I tell her, forget it! You've obviously haven't been informed of basic customer service skills. It's not the first time that I feel like the workers at this place are extra cranky and rude. Most look tired and literally waiting to get out of here. Then they decide to bring me the taco, why not just fix it and avoid the discomfort and desire to not return to your store again. Now open. It's only the second day but here is what I've noticed. The parking lot is a disaster right now. People coming from all directions, scrambling for a spot to park. Once inside it is a lot less chaotic. I purchased some meats at the meat counter. Based on past experience at other Vallarta's the carne asada marinade is not quite right. I'm sure they just need to pay closer attention to the recipe. The hot food counter has been hit or miss. Yesterday I got some rice and beans and they where very good. Today I got beef meatball soup and it was just okay. The baked goods are amazing. The muffins are huge and super tasty. The fresh made tortillas are also super good. My advice to anyone reading this is to wait a couple weeks till the crowds die down. After that it should be a pleasant shopping experience. I will update this after my next visit. read more

The store is fully well stocked and cleaned. With whats going on with Covid, they've made it safe to where where you feel ok with walking into the store. You immediately see it walking in. I've been to some stores to where I had to walk back out. This is the best grocery store I've ever been to! I go there regularly because I just work down the street. The majority of the staff is helpful without any hesitancy or attiude. I do have to say that a catering staff member was not a pleasant person because of miscommunication, so he misunderstood me on an order though I showed him my receipt. I blame it on all of us all wearing masks. So for that, Im not not gonna have him bring the 5 stars down. I do have to shout out to 2 of the staff members last night. ( I'll get their names next time I go) I alerted an young female employee about some shady gals in the store, what they were doing and their description. She took immediate action and told her supervisor. I over heard them while I was still working on my transaction. I do this for a living and when I'm off duty if feels nice that there are staff members who make it safe for their customers. When I was finishing up, the young female employee told me what she did. It means alot that she took that initiative of what shes done. Great job young laady! Having visited other Vallarta markets, was really excited about Vallarta coming to Pasadena. My excitement was short lived. Since moving to Pasadena we've hoped for a decent market in the Northwest. This market is the equivalent of a large scale Baja Fresh with a few bells and whistles. Lucked out finding parking quickly. Store is clean and well organized. Store seems over staffed to deal with grand opening madness. Hopefully store will be maintained long term. Price point is higher than Super King and Aldi on many items. Solid three stars for simple convenience. This is the place to go when you have people coming over for dinner in an hour. You can roll in, hit the deli, bakery, tortilleria, salad bar and other specialty areas and presto, you got dinner! With a little creativity, you can easily pass off your purchases as homemade. No worries, we won't rat you out. Keep the salt shaker handy. Some items still need additional seasoning. Taste before serving. Not a place for routine shopping but great to get you out of quick dinner binds. My heart continues to belong to Super King with it's United Nations clientele and psycho parking lot! read more

By far, my favorite Vallarta grocery store compared to all the locations in the valley I've visited. The only 1 thing that "NEEDS" change , are the food containers to go & to dine in . Well, I finally got around to shopping at the new vallarta. This is one of the closest grocery stores to my house. I liked having a vons there when it was a vons, but their service was so bad that I hardly ever shopped there. This new Vallarta seems to be the nicest and cleanest vallarta I have ever been too. Some of that can probably be attributed to the store being newly renovated, but it is certainly clean. I love all the hot and warm food options. I hope to go back soon and try some other food options. read more

Their produce is good quality with options of organic fruits and vegetables, I also picked up some flowers; I say you come here to buy flower arrangements absolutely beautiful. This location opened last week and it wasn't until this past Tuesday that the crowds finally subsided so that we could visit. The place is the antithesis of the Vons which previously occupied this space. The market is large, brightly illuminated and offering an amazing variety of fresh, processed and prepared food. The butcher shop section and displaying a wide variety of meats. There are also sections selling a large array of chorizos, prepared salads and several kinds of pork rind. They also stock many kinds of dried chilis used to make sauces. It is well organized and has areas where you can sit and eat. They also have a tamale bar with a huge variety of tamales. The only thing which I found was the prepared food area. I ordered food to go and the cashier who was trying to take my order was interrupted three different times by one of two men who were preparing food orders. Due to his interruptions, I had to repeat my order three separate times, The men who were filling orders seemed to be disorganized and struggled to fill orders. The one preparing my order moved a metal stand wearing gloves and after doing so, prepared the tacos I ordered rather than throwing away the gloves and donning a new pair. The carnitas in the tacos were poorly seasoned and dry and they failed to include salsas with my order. DO NOT SHOP THERE!!! So i was hoping this would be my go to place after it replaced Vons but unfortunately i gave it more than a chance it's more of a nightmare.. I've been buying my baby's formula here for a few months now. Same brand, same size, everything! This time i was kind of in a hurry so i picked 2 of the Enfamil 20 oz tubs along with a few more essential items. These tubs are about $27.99ea and with my $5 discount paychecks i pay 22.99ea. As i reached home (less than a mile away) i checked the receipt to find that they charged me 34.99 for each tub!!!!!!!!!! And after they processed my checks i paid $29.99each! So that's almost $8 extra and a total of $16!!!!! Crazy right? I went back to the store immediately and I was shocked that the manager's response was "Im sorry there's nothing we can do. Formula is like liquor and cannot be returned, also your checks are already processed." At this point I was furious and tried to find any explanation and was telling them its not my problem that they mispriced the items but I was even more shocked that they refused to admit it was their mistake even after i showed them the price of this item at every single store (target, vons...etc.) and that the only one that's sold for this price was the 30oz tub and even this was for $30.99!! I wanted them to at least reimburse me the difference because i had no intention on returning the formula as i needed it for my baby and they said they couldn't! Note: this was probably the 3rd time this month i go back with to return an item that my husband brings home only because they misplace the tags on products or confuse them with other flavors or prices (happened with their muffins and their mochi). Im sorry i dont need to be doing endless extra trips to the store as a mother of a NB and i dont need to be going through every single item on the receipt only because they are dishonest!!!!! Not to mention that nobody ever offers any help bagging your items even when they see you have a fussy baby. Also the very shady people that are always wandering around the store. NO THANKS! I come here almost every day to get my groceries. I enjoy that they have different safety precautions before entering the store. They keep social distancing with marks on the floor. They have a variety of different things you can get basically anything at the store. I always love coming here for the sweet bread. We've asked simple questions and gotten that "oh my god are you stupid" look before getting a blunt response like we're bugging them. They are even rude to each other in front of customers! I remember one time we purchased some figs, the cashier asked what it was, I told her and she didn't believe me so she asked several coworkers even though I kept telling her what it was.
