I've personally had a really good experience with Valley Beverage Company. They have a great selection and I've always found the prices to be very good and reasonable compared to other spots. I saw some review saying the beer is way overpriced, but honestly that hasn't been my experience at all with them, and i would say is the complete opposite. I think it's worth checking the place out for yourself. The staff is also very friendly, helpful, and welcoming and when i need recommendations on anything they know their stuff to a T. I always stop by "Valley Bev" when I am in Sherman Oaks as they have a wide variety of spirits and diverse selection of beers (I'm talking stouts, sours, international, local, etc. etc. etc.) to choose from. Eric and Daniel are great and are always so helpful. They have vast knowledge on all the products and offer great recommendations based on what you like. Echoing many of the reviews, I do have to mention that occasionally I have brought home a beer that turned out to be expired which was unfortunate as many of the ones I buy are in the $7-$12 range. read more

Never expected a typical looking liquor store to basically be a microbrewery. I could never count how many types of craft beer are in this place! It is incredibly unassuming. If you're looking to impress with some amazing and unique craft beers this is your spot. They also sell other alcohols but it's impossible to not explore all the beer. Rocking out on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks across from the remodeled Pavilions off Kester Avenue... Valley Bev Co has a fair amount of parking in their lot as well as street... Easy access exit and entrance... Even more so from from local residents on foot and local transit. I was on a mission to find "the green fairy" aka Mr. Wormwood aka Absinthe and they had exactly what I needed - Absente Absinthe in a box with a spoon! I've been looking for a new spoon FOREVER (insert Sandlot movie scene here)... So it was meant to be!! The gentleman who greeted me and rang me up was beyond friendly and personable... The vibe is very beverage enthusiast meets modern dive. Craft beer is 100% their specialty and possible what is bought more frequently here as the prices range in competitive to high, which is normal for a local small business I'm happy to support. One of the main entrance was chained up, it looked like they are close, but there is another entrance on the opposite side. I read about them online and after visiting their website, decided to drive up and get a bottle of Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish listed on their website for $129.99 + Tax, when I asked for it, the guy said, he is holding 7 bottles for some guy, 7 BOTTLES at that special discounted price and he continued to say, he is waiting for the person to show and make sure it is not a fraudulent transaction, surprising, not selling a bottle, to make sure the 7 bottles order is legit! Asked me to leave my number my number and he will call me in 1 or 2 day If the bottles are not sold. Since I was there, thought I should get a different bottle. Toward the back on the higher shelf in their bourbon aisle, found few Michter's 10 yr Rye, and when I asked the price he gave me a different number than what was listed. At that point it was apparent there is something shaddy. Don't waste you time, on their website and if you are planning to visit call ahead, but than the same guy may be picking up 7 bottles of what you want to purchase. If I could give this place a zero I would. I stopped by to get a case of Happy Dad seltzer for my sister's baby shower, and a horribly rude man at the register refused to sell it to me...I'm 26. And I had a valid California ID...but he refused to sell it to me and very aggressively asked me to leave. I was treated like a criminal. *PARKING: They have a lot with a decent number of spots and an easy alleyway exit. Simple and such a relief to not have to stress over parking in LA. If you like craft beer, drop everything you're doing and RUN HERE. This place is a craft beer utopia. Here is why they are amazing and deserve your money: 1) They have an incredible selection of hard-to-find craft beers. Cans and bottles. 2) Most of the beers are sold individually. They give you plastic caps at the counter to connect the cans. 3) Each beer is labeled with a clear price. This was such an important element for me. I hate having to ask for prices and it makes the selection process so much easier. The majority of beers that I encountered were priced between 3.99 and 6.99. The price labels were really important for me since I did have a budget. 4) They have tons of other stuff. Hard kombucha, hard seltzer, wine, liquor. I was focused on beer and didn't even have time to delve into the other offerings. 5) The service was really helpful and friendly. 6) As mentioned earlier, easy parking in their lot. I called the store looking for a Aquavit, Scandinavian aperitif I had never hear of that was requested for a friends party. Not only did they have it but it was a really good price. When I came to pick it up was when I made some great discoveries. They have an enormous scotch section. It's basically a huge side of the store they keep adding to. I recently sent my husband here and he was totally in his happy place. Lots of great wines at good prices and a refrigerated section for white, rose and of course beer. I bought a gin from a small family distributor that is excellent (Ford's Gin) as well as several bottles of wine, some beer and a marvelous Japanese whisky. The service was excellent both on the phone and in person. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and very happy to answer questions and offer assistance. I visited this store today and I felt very unwelcomed. I had noticed that one of their cashiers (a Spanish guy) was following me in the store and I felt super uncomfortable. Not to mention when i went to purchase my items nobody in the store spoke to me, I had to say hello 1st and the almost bald white guy that works there looks like he's on drugs. The ONLY place to go in the Valley for Beer. Period. They. Have. It. All. I've never seen so many different breweries, types, and sizes of beer. My absolute favorite part is the fact they break apart most 4-packs and sell almost all of their beers individually. This is such a genius idea and I don't understand why more places don't do this. I was able to pick a large assort of different beers to try out before buying a 4-pack of what I loved the most. (Even though EVERYTHING is always good). Also an awesome job when they throw a 4-pack can carrier on your assortment to keep everything neat and secure. I'm not an alcoholic. Really. And I would have never thought I would review a liquor store; but the time has time. Valley Beverage Co may seem like a ghetto liquor establishment with a half-burnt out neon sign but it's far less unassuming than you would realize. The selection of imported and micro-brewed ales, imported wines, and non-alcoholic juices and sodas are unmatched. Moreover, the staff consists of computer-nerd males that look like they play Dungeon & Dragons. Normally, that would be a turn-off, but these guys are so cheerful, informative, and complimentary; that they may be the coolest RPG guys in Sherman Oaks. VBC is convenient, BUT you need to keep an eye on them. Make sure that you check the date on the beer, and if you can't find the date (suspicious), then don't buy it. Great spot for craft beer Bros but beware, if you're looking for hops make sure you check the "canned on" date. This place doesn't seem to sell through everything and therefore some normally very good DIPAs can end up tasting like garbage because they've been on the shelf for far too long. Anything over two months past the canning date and you're in for disappointment. Aside from that, they definitely keep up with what is hyped. A few years ago, it was wall to wall hops. Now it's wall to wall packed with fruited sours. I'd say it's worth your time to swing through and grab some cans. read more

Our go to neighborhood liquor store. The guys here are always super helpful! Great selection, fair prices, can't really ask for more. My one and only complaint is they don't have fresh lemons and limes, sugar cubes or a large variety of Bitters. As a bartender, these items are staples for many basic cocktails and I would love to not have to go to a 2nd store. Also a great selection of sour beers and wines which makes me a very happy girl. Sometimes I see something that's over a year old. The staff there are not very friendly.
