I am always on the lookout for small restaurants with a homely vibe, and this spot definitely had that charm when we walked in. We found it on Yelp and decided to give it a try since our kids wanted pizza, and what better place than an Italian restaurant. We arrived in the late afternoon, and the place was empty except for a couple of employees. At first we thought they might be closed, but they welcomed us and we sat down. We ordered three pizzas and a salad. Unfortunately, the salad was forgotten, and by the time the server asked if we still wanted it, we were already halfway through our meal, so we declined. We tried the cheese, pepperoni, and margherita pizzas. The cheese and pepperoni were decent, but the margherita was disappointing. The cheese on top was still cold, almost as if it had just been placed straight from the fridge onto the pizza after it came out of the oven. It ended up being one of the weakest margherita pizzas I have had, which was surprising considering we were the only customers there. With no crowd, I expected each dish to be spot on. It is a cute restaurant with potential, and I hope our experience was just an off day. With more attention to details like timing and preparation, it could be a much stronger dining option. At this point, I am not sure if I would return, but I do hope improvements are made because the atmosphere is nice and inviting.

Ok Another great found and another great buy Altogether, it really pays to be a member of Doordash Placed an order at my work for three meals, which are going to be three days' lunches I ordered a pizza: 12" Pizza Bianca with no sauce, mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, and arugula it was really super delicious and they put a lot of prosciutto on the pizza I also ordered a Cacio E Pepe pasta dish which was out of this world and exactly made the way it's supposed to be And lastly I ordered a mushroom risotto which was cooked to perfection: Arborio rice, white wine, porcini mushrooms, burrata cheese and parmigiano cheese. I had such a great deal discounted to me from Doordash that it cost me about $10 a meal I love that place I will order again

My main course was the short rib ravioli with a drizzle of balsamic glaze and it was really good and very feeling. overall enjoyed my meal, but I will say that there was six of us and the table was a bit snug as they placed us in a half rounded table and added two seats. Love the vibe of the restaurant very clean aesthetic. If you're concerned about parking, it is Ventura Boulevard so either grab street parking if you're lucky or save yourself the headache and go straight from valet. I would definitely come here again.

We parked in one of their 3 parking spots in the back and entered through the rear entrance. We were greeted by Aya who mentioned they were having some plumbing problems so we needed to sit in the front section of the restaurant. The place is pretty small and compact, with about 10 tables. It's family owned and been around for 25 years. The prices are pretty affordable for the portion sizes. Not much ambiance or decorations, but there was some nice Italian music playing overhead and some Christmas decorations that are apparently hung up year-round. Both Thomas and Aya waited on us and they were both pleasant and kind with nice smiles. Thomas quickly brought out some waters along with their complimentary focaccia that came with olive tapenade. The bread tasted old and stale and wasn't warm, but I liked the tapenade. Surprisingly, we were never asked if we wanted anything else to drink and also never got refills on our waters until I had to ask for one. I ordered the Italian salad with dressing on the side and I asked if the carrots that came in the salad were cooked or raw, since I don't like raw carrots. Aya happily suggested that they can cook me some carrots separately and bring them on the side, which is what they did. Even though the carrots were not really cooked that well, the gesture was still greatly appreciated. Other than that, all the ingredients were very fresh and the dressing was LIGHT, just how I like it. For our entrèes, I got the Pollo Della Cassa which came with chicken breast and mushrooms baked with mozzarella cheese, served on pasta with Alfredo sauce. ($24.95), with an add-on of shrimp (+$3.00 for 3 shrimps). I also asked for light sauce, not too soupy, and that's exactly how it was prepared. The food was piping hot, very fresh, and delicious. My son ordered the Pollo Limone ($24.95) that came with grilled chicken breast with lemon sauce on mushroom risotto. He was not the biggest fan of his food but still ate all of it. He also asked if he could get a side of veggies and they gladly brought out a medley of sautéed broccoli, zucchini, and carrots. We were not charged for the side of veggies and also the salad, which was very generous of them. To end the meal, you get a small complimentary square of Tiramisu which is a nice little treat. The customer service is truly the best part of this restaurant and you can tell that there is a lot of love involved here. They really care about their guests and want you to feel happy and satisfied. Due to some minor ticks here and there, I think I am going to stick with 4 stars overall. The restaurant was clean but just kind of unpleasant. You could also smell the bleach right when you walk in and sometimes the smell would waft through the air. It was also really hot in the restaurant and I don't think the A/C was working. They have one bathroom for each gender and they were very clean. I also asked for some change to leave cash for the tip, but Thomas told me they didn't have any cash in the restaurant. How can that be? Thank you Spumoni, Aya, Thomas, and the chefs. Will I return? Maybe, maybe not.

We got there exactly at 12 noon on the 7th of this month and noticed the restaurant was closed. Locked with a notice on the door. The envelope was sealed and had a confidential message written on the envelope. We got close to the door to see if we could gather other type of information, but we couldn't. No other signs were posted on the door/window. We even called them twice and left them a message since nobody answered the phone, left another message and nobody has called us back since then. We really wanted to try their delicious food from their extensive menu options. Unfortunately, we were not able to. Maybe they went out of business? Sold the restaurant? Who knows? They also have the business hours wrong. Online, it says open between 11:30 to 2pm, closed and reopen from 4pm to 9pm. The message on the phone states that they are only open from 5 to 9pm. My friend came all the way from Tarzana for us to have lunch together and it never happened. We went next door to have lunch, and the same thing with that restaurant. That's coming up next.. Stay tuned! This truly is a 5 star establishment. The reason that I gave 2 stars is because I have been there twice in the past and liked everything about this place from ambiance, to service and their DELICIOUS food.

The Burrata Caprese was light and everything on the plate went well together. The Penne Arrabiata and Ravioli de Spinaci e Ricotta was alright. Didn't shine compared to the other dishes, but the sauce was delicious. The Filetto di Bue was very flavorful with the red wine sauce really coming through. They've got locations all over the city, and the Sherman Oaks venue has been a fixture in the neighborhood for decades, where not much has changed through the years. The space is roomy, comfortable, clean and well-kept, and the staff is uniformly friendly. I've also catered parties from here, and they really have their business well-organized. With Maria's you know what you're gonna get. Except for tonight, when the Eggplant Parmigiana I was served turned out to be lasagna. Surprise! When I mentioned it to the waiter, he said, "I knew it. It looked like lasagna, but I served it anyway to see if you noticed." Huh? Okay. I don't dislike lasagna, and I didn't want to wait for a replacement, so I kept it, and it was very tasty. Rich, tomatoey sauce with a mix of beef and pork (plus a touch of cream) surrounded the slice of lasagna, its layers of pasta and ricotta blanketed with melted mozzarella that managed to be both gooey and crusty brown at the same time. I liked it quite a bit, though I'd have preferred to have the eggplant instead. My wife ordered the "summer lite" portion of Chicken Piccata, which had a tasty sauce and generous sides of pasta and veggies, while my daughter ordered grilled chicken with broccoli -- also nicely seasoned, and accompanied by charred, very fresh broccoli seasoned with olive oil and garlic. My son and his girlfriend are both vegan, so they shared a vegan pizza and spaghetti marinara (also vegan). Kudos to Maria's for having a good number of vegan options available, and being so accommodating to their whole audience. While Maria's may not be the very best Italian restaurant in town, they're aiming for something else. As a family-friendly, reasonably-priced neighborhood stalwart they're continuing to score big points after a very long time. Good for them.
