I'm embarrassed to say that this gem has been sitting in my neighborhood for years, merely 5 minutes from my house, and we've only just tried it tonight. What a crazy number of days, weeks, months we've spent without enjoying the good food and friendly service at this comfy, homestyle Italian eatery with a full bar and even fuller menu of properly prepared, seriously tasty dishes. The room is cheery and bright, while remaining welcoming. Not a sign of anything corporate here -- just homespun hospitality and good vibes from start to finish. Our server, Chris, was attentive and most accommodating, explaining various options to us newbies, and making my wife an offer she couldn't refuse: she was trying to decide between Chicken Parm and Cacio E Pepe, so Chris offered to swap the plain pasta side of the parm with Cacio E Pepe, giving her both dishes in one. Sold. You pretty much never see that kind of thing happening nowadays. And it was a great thing, to be sure. The generous portion of chicken was lightly fried and topped with an equally light tomato sauce that complimented the chicken and cheese rather than overwhelming them. The flavor and texture were spot on, and the robust Cacio E Pepe made for a very nice pairing. Me? I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, once Chris assured me it was made the traditional way rather than doused in cream as so many places now do. And indeed, the spaghetti was textbook al dente, dressed with with egg yolk and cheese that combined into a richly satisfying sauce. The pancetta brought a touch of salt and plenty of smoky accents, making this about as top notch a version of this dish as you're likely to find in the Valley. Cannoli were sweet and rich; a wonderful palate cleanser at the end of our meal. A Pepperoni Pizza taken to go for our kids at home looked absolutely first rate. Did I mention my martini? Properly made, cool and crisp, and only $15. Quite the bargain for this side of town. Yes, Trattoria Del Sole came as a surprise, but it should be no surprise to anyone reading this that we'll be making this our regular haunt from now-on. I think you should, too. read more

I am always on the lookout for small restaurants with a homely vibe, and this spot definitely had that charm when we walked in. We found it on Yelp and decided to give it a try since our kids wanted pizza, and what better place than an Italian restaurant. We arrived in the late afternoon, and the place was empty except for a couple of employees. At first we thought they might be closed, but they welcomed us and we sat down. We ordered three pizzas and a salad. Unfortunately, the salad was forgotten, and by the time the server asked if we still wanted it, we were already halfway through our meal, so we declined. We tried the cheese, pepperoni, and margherita pizzas. The cheese and pepperoni were decent, but the margherita was disappointing. The cheese on top was still cold, almost as if it had just been placed straight from the fridge onto the pizza after it came out of the oven. It ended up being one of the weakest margherita pizzas I have had, which was surprising considering we were the only customers there. With no crowd, I expected each dish to be spot on. It is a cute restaurant with potential, and I hope our experience was just an off day. With more attention to details like timing and preparation, it could be a much stronger dining option. Ok Another great found and another great buy Altogether, it really pays to be a member of Doordash Placed an order at my work for three meals, which are going to be three days' lunches I ordered a pizza: 12" Pizza Bianca with no sauce, mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, and arugula it was really super delicious and they put a lot of prosciutto on the pizza I also ordered a Cacio E Pepe pasta dish which was out of this world and exactly made the way it's supposed to be And lastly I ordered a mushroom risotto which was cooked to perfection: Arborio rice, white wine, porcini mushrooms, burrata cheese and parmigiano cheese. The place is very cozy and cute. We went for lunch on Saturday. They had a " specials" menu . We tried the squash spaghetti with anchovies, the sole with olives and capers , and salad with greens , eggplant , cheese and peppers. Everything tasted AMAZING! We absolutely loved every bite. Wow! What a wonderful dinner. We went early and got a nice table by the window. Our mom had been there with her friends and said we should go cuz it was so good, it wasn't good, it was amazing! The server told us they hand-make all their pasta fresh, they don't freeze any seafood, it's all fresh. That was great to hear! First they brought us fresh bread, it was a good size piece for each of us with oil & vinegar. We started with a special avocado salad, and a Cesar salad, both generous size and delicious! We ordered for our meal, Chicken parm, chicken piccata and a calamari. The calamari was big huge chunks with a light breading. The chicken parm was one huge piece with a generous amount of penne with red sauce. For the Piccata there were 4 good size pieces of chicken, roasted potatoes and veggies. It had tons of capers and yummy sauce. We finished with a Cannoli. Ok, we thought two of us would split one cannoli, uuuhhh no it was four generous size cannoli's with chocolate sauce drizzled on top. Those cannoli's rivaled Cleveland's 'Little Italy' pastry shops. We were pleasantly surprised. My boyfriend has lived in Sherman Oaks for 10yrs and he's never been. We have seen it passing by but never went. We are sorry we hadn't been sooner. I was looking for an Italian restaurant for my husband to break his Matzah diet. I found this little gem. Great food and great service. They started us with great bread - so good that I had to ask for some to go. The Arugula salad with Lemon dressing was amazing. I had the Linguini Vongole and my husband had a Romana Pizza with pepperoni. It's not a huge restaurant but we liked the ambiance and the fact that they did not have music blasting was a plus indeed. Date: 2/2/24 Was looking for a last minute dinner spot that was family friendly and ended up finding this spot. Some reviews said it was family friendly so decided to try it out. It's a fairly romantic type place, however, i feel it is somewhat family friendly. They have an outdoor patio seating area so we opted for that just in case the kids got antsy since it was already 8pm. Our server was super sweet and very attentive. She took care of us from beginning til end. Beginning when I arrived first with my two babies and then at the end when my husband arrived. We ordered: 1. Margherita Pizza (20$) - Wasn't bad however nothing special for the price. The toppings were still "hard" as in nothing was really melted together. 2. Pollo Piccata (29$) - This one was really good. Love the lemon butter and the veggies on the side however on the pric-er side for this dish. Wish the veggies were also a little softer. 3. Spaghetti Meatballs (22$) - The meatballs were huge however it was literally ALL BEEF so it was super dry and hard to eat. The sauce overall was really good though! Hubs gave this one a big thumbs up! 4. Parpadelle (24$) - Wish there was more cheese but overall amazing dish! Overall we had an amazing dinner experience. The food was alright. I did not think it was particularly special. I did not like that they included the fish head on one of the mains. It made me queasy. But what was really off-putting and will make me never return are these two things: Minor: The waiters congregrated near our table to chit chat as they were observing the other tables. Like rightnexttoourtable. It was hard to converse with them right there. They could have stood in a far less conspicuous place. Major: the waiter bringing our plates had his dirty fingers on my plate. Love the food at this restaurant. The pizza and the butternut squash ravioli are out of this world. Best neopolitan style pizza outside of napoli. We usually order to go and they are quick and responsive and always get the order right. The one complaint we have is that their desserts do not live up to their other menu items. Given the lack of variety they should all be excellent but really are only "ok" and not traditional. The canolli is the really the only dessert that seems semi authentic, the tiramisu is nothing like you would imagine (though very large it is almost liquid). It would be nice if they branched out to an italian wedding cake or an Affogato or or Zabaglione. But, they obviously don't have a pasty chef. Even just a great gelato or some kind of cake or pastry that is a little less specific than their four choices would be nice, and they would not have to be made on site to hit the spot. But -- if you want excellent pizza, appetizers and anything savory -- THIS IS THE PLACE -- you can always pick up desert somewhere else. read more

Tried the Trattoria for lunch last weekend with a friend. The bread they brought out after we ordered was amazing and served piping hot. It was crusty on the outside without being hard, with a pillowy soft interior. We asked for more and did get charged ($1.50 for 2) but it was worth it! I wonder if they sell the bread in the market. I'll have to look next time. We shared the grilled octopus, linguini with clams, and porcini mushroom risotto. Portions were a good size and everything was delicious. The menu is on the larger side and I would definitely return to try other dishes. Service was a little slow despite the fact that there was only one other table besides us at the time, but that was fine since we weren't in a rush. My friend had to go look for our server to ask for the bill at the end. There are two entrances, one for the market and one for the restaurant. Decided to finally try Trattoria del Sole and it was very good. I had the penne with pink sauce. Sauce was a bit thin but I still liked it very much - good flavor, pasta perfectly cooked and it came with some bread that was still hot and really good, too. He knows exactly what we would like and he knows exactly what to suggest if we are wanting to try a new dish. Winner alert. Winner alert. This little gem can be found on Ventura Blvd as you enter Studio City from the Encino side. It will appear as a market, which is one side, but the eatery and its a restaurant is next to it. It's small, just a few tables, but service is solid. My friend went with the Brizanno (or however you spell it) and enjoyed. It was crisp yet uh, sumptuous. I went Linguni Vongole, which means linguini with clams. There were a good amount in there, easy to remove from the shells they are the small sized clams, and the sauce was garlic, white wine with a small amount of butter. If you love garlic be prepared to see a lot of garlic snips in the pasta. I can handle just a little bit, so I removed a chunk of them. The dish comes with grape tomatoes and some lite parsley. I really enjoyed it. The sauce from a dipping standpoint was okay, it worked. You get bread , it's like Two mid roll size, that comes out early. If you want more you ask, but they bring out only one. The bf and I were originally going to go to Uovo for pasta but there was an hour wait at 8pm on a Thursday night. We weren't about to wait till 9pm to eat so I hopped on yelp and found this alternative. A small restaurant attached to a tiny Italian market. We parked in the back and were seated immediately upon entering. We decided to share the Papardelle and Bianca and were given complimentary bread while waiting. The bread was crispy and crunchy on the outside while airy, fluffy, and warm on the inside. Paired perfectly with their olive oil and balsamic vinegar as well as with the leftover meat sauce from the Papardelle. The Papardelle was smaller than expected but pretty dang good. The Bianca pizza was okay, a bit heavy with the cheese. Upon paying, we saw that we had an unexplained charge of $3.00; turns out they charge $1.50 per cup of hot water.. eh. I want to update a prior review. We called in advance to find the best time to come in on a Sunday and we're given an accurate time . We enjoyed the Octopus which is served on top of a salad and it was grilled to perfection. I had the Cioppino which is filled with fresh fish and clams but the soup is a bit heavy and lacked spice. The chicken dishes were good and we had a nice evening. The sound level allowed for conversion and we did not hear others so I other word a perfect level. Ordered for delivery. Food came cold and in the notes I asked for extra Parmesan cheese. For two orders of food I was given 2 packets of some poor quality Parmesan cheese. I called to complains and spoke to "Chris. Rather than apologise (customer is always right) he said it was my fault for not specifying how many packets I wanted--in a "good" restaurant, did I really expect cheese to be "packets"? .He then called me back to ask if I paid for extra cheese.
