No more pizza salad (now large chunks of just lettuce), no more Texas toast (little store bought rolls -yuck). The stakes are definitely smaller and not trimmed as well, green beans are just boiled without seasoning, baked potatoes are over baked/dried out , deserts were always homemade - now seem to be prepackaged and plated up way too early as they are dried out by the time you eat them. BANNED IN THE U.S.A.... So we popped in here for the second time under the new ownership. The first time had me a little rattled as we were there for a Birthday party and the owner came out to search our gift bag to ensure we had no outside food or drink in there. Coming back from the Little Miami High School food truck rally to support local small businesses, we thought we'd stop for a bite and one quick one. The wife is a water snob so she brought her own bottle of water from UDF and the two kids we were with were finishing up their last bites of ice cream from the food truck. We ordered a beer and the potato skins. The waitress came out and apologized that they were out of them, but if we wanted pretzel bites she could take our card and charge us another $2.10. We politely declined and shortly afterward the owner stormed out. He began snatching up the two empty ice cream cups and threw away my wife's bottle of water ranting that there must be something wrong with us that we couldn't read the sign about no outside food or drink. When I tried to explain, he said get out and don't come back. When we went in to attempt to get our money back from the skins, he again told us to leave. He then explained that by doing this, he has made the restaurant 3 times more profitable than the previous owners ever did. He is an absolute nut job. I'm all about small businesses and we've been coming here our entire life. But never again. This power hungry, money grubbing dictator is going to run it straight into the ground. Want something fun to do on a date night? Walk in here with an empty bag and a bottle of water and sit back and watch the show. The guy blows his top and it's hilarious. Can I give this place zero stars!? Since my last review Valley Vineyards has changed ownership. The customer service and food are absolutely horrendous. The owner is a monster, and I've never said that about anyone ever. He was mean to the kids, mean to the adults. I brought in a cup of ice and water (I do not drink alcohol). They provide only free water that tastes horrible! The owner came up and took my ice water off our table and threw it away! My whole cup and everything right in front of us! The previous time we came the kids brought a board game to play while we listened to music outdoors on the grass and he came up and yelled at the kids to throw away their food! They didn't have food, they were playing candy land, maybe he was confused. We love local businesses. We live close in the community and have loved VV for many years. The food is consistently burnt. The steak is chewy and the other meats are nasty. PLEASE check out their health department inspections, also nasty. But really, the owner himself is actually the meanest angriest person I've ever met. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. read more

So disappointed. Was there in Aug 2021 but Not the same. We came from Xenia & Huber Heights for mother's day and was sorely disappointed in the food. Wine was the the same as before but well buy it on the stores. The steaks were 1/2 the thickness, green beans were tough & not cooked all the way, potatoes were nuked, luke warm, salad not the same. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. I loved this place that's why I chose to have a large dinner here to celebrate a birthday. It was all downhill at check in. The owner, who is the rudest business man I have ever had an a counter with, just handed out 30 prepaid meal tickets to a person and said be gone. There were more than 30 people. He didn't care to vet anyone s receipt against their tickets. So while people who didn't receive a ticket who prepaid showed them their copy of their email receipt, he said he didn't care and made them pay again. Fraud if you ask me. I understand it was a large party that came through, but this place needs a better business model. It is tough to write this review. One, it is the first review. Two, it is not the review they may want. Unfortunately, I was not impressed and please take this with the caveat that I may be a pretentious Chicago person. I've done another dinner and wine deal in Cincinnati and it was better than this. It is $35 for a dinner package which includes a half a bottle of wine. You get to select from steak or fish, salad, and sides to go with it. You prepare your own food on the outdoor grill and choose your seasonings. To finish things off you get a plate of dessert, a pie of some sort. The food is just ok and the atmosphere is high school cafeteria masked as a restaurant at best. Cook your own food, serve yourself, pick your seat. This location did not even present the awe of winery or vineyard. I didn't see any rolling hills or vines with grapes. Nothing. I have always loved coming to Valley Vineyard for wine tastings and grilling out, but now I have discovered their Thursday night venue. It's less expensive and loads of fun. On Thursdays they have amazing live jazz music, inexpensive dinners and desserts, and half price bottles of wine. We bought 3 entrees, one dessert and 2 bottles of wine for less than 60 dollars. The food was delicious and everything on the menu looked great. They have things like meatball hoagies, roasted red pepper hummus with pita, spaghetti, french dip sandwiches and chocolate lava cake. And this is a wonderful place to go with friends. We love to hang out and visit. It's also worth noting that this would be a good location in the event of a zombie attack. There aren't an abundance of windows and doors for them to enter, but most importantly, you can barricade yourself in the wine cellar with all that awesome wine. The winery is great. Drink up! The dinner option is dicey. If you're vegetarian, you have to give 24 hours notice, which is kinda weird because you would think that would be easy. The filet is much more expensive but it's much smaller than the strip so when you see the two sitting side by side there's definitely buyer's remorse. The novelty of grilling wears off quick. Like your steak well-done? Be prepared to be standing over that grill for quite awhile. Not used to grilling salmon or shrimp? Good luck figuring that out. With your grandma and kids? First visit to Valley vineyards. We made reservations for the steak meal. The dining room was nice but chilly. After you check in you pay up front. Then your given a ticket that it good for 2 drinks and a protein. The first thing you do after getting your drink is make your salad. Everyone enjoyed the salad. They also have coffee and tea by the salad bar. Next you get your protein. All 4 of us got the new York strip. You proceeded outside to cook your steak. They only had one steak seasoning which was empty. I had to get back in the protein line to get it filled. After we cook our steaks we go to the sides bar. They have new potatoes, rice, green beans, broccoli and cauliflower, rolls. Everyone's steaks were chewy and tough. One person didn't even eat hers it was so bad. The sides were not that great either. The dessert choices were apple pie, cheese cake, brownie, pecan pie and chocolate cool whip pie. Ok I can eat about any dessert. I even like the premade pies at the grocery story. I have to say everyone of the desserts were the worst I've ever had. The apple pie crust tasted raw and the filling was yuck. I tried the brownie and it was hard and dry, just no. I'd rather have a box of little Debbie's. We still had a great time and the experience was fun, but the lack of quality in the food gave it a once and done experience for us. There's no service at all. There are people coming by to get your dirty plates but that's it. Total all self service. No o e even ask how your dinner was but probably because they are aware of how bad it is. Suggestions. We went here for the first time last night. We tried the outdoor cookout and the food was very good. Two of us had the salmon and my sister got the crab cakes. The wine slushees were SO good! We were disappointed that they weren't following all the safety protocols for Covid. About half the staff wore masks and the other half didn't. I walked in today and a little girl behind the bar taught me how to open my wine bottle. "You just twist and pull." We have only been here once but it was awesome! I did the wine tasting and my husband did the beer sampler (together $22 ish). The staff were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed almost every wine I tried (medium to sweet). But my favorite was the concord (went home with a bottle $10.99). They have a nice outside area you can sit and hang out. We got there around 2:30 PM and every table was already reserved for dinner that night (so take that into consideration). We can't wait to go back and bring friends! Cheers! read more

I absolutely love this place! My husband I tried it out for the first time on Valentine's Day and had the most romantic, engaging dinner! On Friday evenings they offer a steak or salmon dinner- and the fun part? You grill it! They have both indoor and outdoor grills (depending on the weather you may need to be inside, but when it's nice out take advantage of the beautiful outdoor space!). You pay a set price that includes: steak or salmon, salad, rolls, baked potato, lots of yummy sides, a full dessert bar (cakes, pies, and other tastes treats) and a bottle of wine! If you don't like wine you can get a few beers in leu of wine. The wine and experience was the highlight of our time there. The dining space is cozy and comfortable. I had a very negative experience at Valley Vineyards recently (which was highly disappointing as we had good experiences in the past). We ordered food and ~45 minutes later when no food had come out, we went into inquire and were told that the kitchen was backed up - That is fine, would have been nice to have been told but these things happen. What happened next was unacceptable. I was there with my two children, 5 and 3 who by this point were losing it given the food delay, so we grabbed out of the car sippy cups and a pair of apple sauce pouches. The manager came up to our table and was EXTREMELY aggressive in telling us it is unacceptable for any outside food or drinks to be consumed, this includes sippy cups! He claimed it was due to health codes (may be but literally no other restaurant has ever had an issue with this) and the tone and aggressiveness of the approach was completely unacceptable. Left my children rattled and upset. read more

While I've never been here to eat, this is still one of my favorite weekend excursions. I probably get out here four or five times a year on even the flimsiest pretext. Meet a new person? Wine tasting! Something to celebrate? Wine tasting! Woke up before noon on a Sunday? Wine tasting! Valley Vineyards is my favorite winery in the general area. I absolutely love to go out there to do a spontaneous wine tasting - and I can't deny that the adorable little tasting glasses have something to do with it! You can pick from either a dry tray or a sweet tray (with a few wines that overlap) and add on additional glasses from other types not currently included. I think it's about $12 for about that number of samples, but the glasses are filled enough that I've done one tray of each split between three people and always feel we're getting enough to really get an idea of the wine. Plus, usually a little tipsy. It's a good quantity for cost, is what I'm saying. We usually order a cheese tray, which is nothing too special, fairly basic bread and cheeses, but a nice touch. There was this spicy sangria jelly once that was amazing! Also, we'll sometimes order a pizza if we're settling in for a few glasses and I don't recall it being terrible. (Note the 'few glasses' so I apologize if it's terrible and I just don't notice.) Staff is always nice and helpful, and every experience there has been a really good one. I really like to get there around the time the tasting room opens on a Sunday- a few hours later and it starts filling up, but right then it's nice and empty and I can pick whatever table I want in the adorable little rustic yet classy tasting room. One of my favorite things about Valley Vineyard...it's about five miles from my house. And since it's out in a boonies, it takes about as long to get to VV as it does to a gas station, so guess where I'm going on a booze run!!! Obviously, VV sells wines, and they have a lovely collection of reds and whites, some of which have won awards competing with other Ohio wineries. Their Cab is fabulous, and even my husband, who isn't much of a wine drinker, LOVES their champagne. But a few years ago, they also opened their brewery division, and the Cellar Dweller label produces some exceptional local beers! One of our favorite Saturday afternoon activities (okay, sometimes it's a Saturday morning...) is to pop down to grab a flight (okay, I admit, sometimes it's two...) of wine or beer and a pizza and lounge at a picnic table outside for an hour or so. We rarely leave without another bottle or growler for the rest of the week. I'd love to see them freshen up the building, just to bring it up to date and make it a really cool and organized-looking shop, inside and out. We've never had one of the weekend dinners, but drive by in the evening, and the smell is incredible! However, if you want to experience the family flavor of Valley Vineyards, you have to attend their annual Wine Festival. Bands, food booths, lots of wine, educational seminars, brewery tours, and a laid-back atmosphere make this one of our favorite small festivals of the summer. We have been coming to Valley Vineyards for over 25 years. It's an annual tradition with our large group of friends. Our last teo visits have been terrible. Food quality has been terrible. They run out of food and continue to cheapen the food selection but every year the price goes up. Wow the previous owners built such an amazing experience and now it's not the same. this place has always been packed. Tonight at dinner fir a 7:00 reservation a ghost town. This is a great place to take and date and a few friends. On the weekends you get to choose your protein and grill it with others in like a family style type gathering. The sides and desert are all taken care of and ready for you once you finish cooking. I had a beautifully cut New York strip steak. I cooked it to just above medium. It melted in my mouth. I had a baked potato and mixed vegetables as my sides. They were prepared perfectly. As far as deserts, there was a whole table with plenty of pies waiting. Anything from chocolate pie, carrot cake, pecan pie, and, Cheese cake. I opted for the pecan pie....it was delicious. Now as far as drinks, the options are definitely there. Since they are a vineyard, they have plenty of wine to choose from. Instead, I opted for their beer. I tried their stout and an Ipa, both were very good. I like a thicker stout with a big coffee taste, and this one had it. I would highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

I maybe would have given a better rating if I had actually gotten to eat. Apparently they stop serving food at 7 but don't close until 11 on Friday and Saturday nights. They serve food until 8 and 9 Wednesday and Thursday. It does say on the website after I went back and looked that the food you can order off the menu stops at 7 because on Friday and Saturday they have a buffet and you can cook your own meat. Sounded pretty neat to us. Well we didn't make a reservation because you don't make reservations for outside. Well apparently the cookout stops at 7. We eat at nice restaurants and dive restaurants all over the city and it's standard for kitchens to close 1-1 1/2 hours before the bar closes or maybe 10 it's its open to 2 am. And most restaurants kitchens of course stay open until they close. I believe if you are going to have such odd food services hours maybe have more clearly marked on the website after we arrived at 8 and were told no food I had to search for the information that I had missed when I originally looked at the place. I believe dinner at 7-8 is pretty standard on Friday and Saturday nights. Also they wee suppose to have live music 6-10 but at 8 there was no band. So we are we're pretty bummed because we were looking forward to going to work the winery which is almost an hour from we're we live. And unfortunately we're it's located there isn't a lot of restaurants so we had to go all the way to Montgomry to DaSha who gladly served us food at almost 9pm. read more

We decided to stop by this past weekend to enjoy the patio with family and our dog. We called ahead to make sure dogs are allowed on the patio. We found out they must be on a leash and they provide water bowls. We enjoyed the margarita and peach (try them layered) wine slushies with the lager and pretzel platter. Well, I'm going to do Valley Vineyards a favor and give them the one star, because zero is really what they deserve. We entered their main area (four of us) and stood in front of the counter for over 5 min before anyone even acknowledged we were there. When they finally asked what we needed, they acted disappointed that we wanted food. I guess we should have taken that as a hint and ran out quickly. We ended up getting some dry crappy chicken wraps that could have easily been purchased from the McDonalds value menu (sorry McD) and a beer tasting tray. It didn't help that the beer was warm, but I have to say that every single beer on the tray was terrible. Hopefully, you can learn from our mistake and just keep driving . . . read more

My one time here was for a wine tasting. Having never been to a wine tasting, I didn't know what to expect. However, I felt that the format they used wasn't the best for a newbie wine lover. To be given a sheet of paper, having to go into a different room and just ask for a taste, then figure out what I am experiencing........not a good thing. This place isn't cheap. : $70.00 (+ tax) per couple and $35.00 (+ tax) per person (not including tip) You get, a bottle of wine or 4 drink tokens for beer or wine (per couple), soft drinks, meat, buffet vegetables, and buffet dessert. Stay with me because that sounds like a lot. - The Wine: Really bad, like alcoholic juice bad. Like when you were 21 and all you drank was Boonesfarm bad. I know they say their wine wins a lot of awards and that's probably true because it's awards for OHIO WINERIES. Just don't go in expecting the 2nd American Napa Valley. - The Meat: Pretty good. Want a better comparison? Go to Kroger right now, go to the prepackaged NY Strip Steaks, buy one, light a charcoal grill, cook the steak. - The Buffet: Basic. Corn, Green Beans, Potato, Bread. - The Dessert: I snagged the last dessert on the table. Then they were out. Tasted like cheesecake. Then you tip. So you leave this place having had pretty bad wine, pretty okay food, and spending about $40/person which in my mind is a pretty bad deal. (Sidenote: The service here is homey and nice. I headed to Valley Vineyards to join a group of girls for a celebratory dinner (one of them had scored high on her PCAT exam). She suggested that we meet at 7pm for dinner. I was informed that dinner was approximately $30, it would include steak or salmon, and that wine would be included. Okay, great! No problem. I set off from Dayton around 6ish, and arrived promptly at 7. The winery was *packed* - I found the only available parking spot in the paved part of the lot and parked. Upon walking into the winery, it was a tad chaotic: no one was directing people traffic; there was no real rhyme or reason to the process. In fact, it was considerably disorganized, and I was surprised that I was expected to know how these things worked, without ever having stepped foot on the premises before. It works like this: You pay first, and if you're paying for two people, you get three tickets - one for a bottle of wine, two for dinner. You then go to the wine counter where you may try two samples to select your dinner wine. There were 4 in our party, so we ended up with two bottles of wine (I'm not certain how it works for singles). I opted to try White Reflections and Niagara, and ultimately selected the White Reflections. Okay, good to go. We had reservations, so we took our wine to the dining room and found our reserved table. The room: While the overhead grape vine brambles and white 'fairy lights' (Christmas lights) were a nice touch, the tables and chairs were cheap. It felt very 'cafeteria-esque'. We selected our seats, put down our wine, and went to get dinner. In the food room (which is between the wine bar and the dining hall), there are three tables: one with meat (and a person to serve you your choice of NY strip or salmon), one with sides, and one with dessert. I opted to pick the salmon, which was pre-packaged on a paper plate with two lemon wedges, and you are given some foil with which to cook it on. You then go outside, where there is no one to direct or assist you, to cook your meat/fish on open grills. There are a variety of seasonings to choose from. I winged it with my salmon, using something labelled 'salmon rub' and the foil. It felt ridiculously chaotic, and without a lot of personal space, with people moving around the hot grills and bumping into you often. There were several feral cats/kittens hanging about, too, attempting to get into the trash cans for food. After some amount of cooking (and hoping that my salmon was done, while wishing I'd gone with the steak instead), I took my foil-wrapped salmon inside to get sides from the steam tables. My options were: tossed greens salad house salad (very similar to Olive Garden's house salad) green beans rice w/ slivered almonds steamed vegetable mix (cauliflower, squash, zucchini, broccoli) baked potatoes bread (Texas toast sized) w/ butter I chose the house salad, the rice, and the vegetable mix. I also picked up two slices of bread, and headed back to the table. Sadly, by the time this had transpired, everything had gotten cold. It wasn't even that long away from the grill or the steam tables, but sure enough, everything was tepid, at best. I went ahead and finished it all (and, really, wouldn't you if you just shelled out $31 for dinner?), but none of it stayed warm. The dessert options were: chocolate pie (possibly a mousse, or French silk) apple pie cherry cheesecake pecan pie I chose the cherry cheesecake, and was bitterly disappointed. It tasted much like the Jell-O No-Bake cheesecake that comes from a box. In fact, after a bit of reflection, all the sides seemed that way: bagged salad, veggies from a freezer steam bag, rice from a box. Even one of my table mates stated that the Texas toast was Kroger brand (she'd just bought a loaf herself a few days ago), and that the steaks were stacked in a similar fashion to how Kroger does in their meat department, even on the same paper. If I want a Kroger-made dinner, I will go to Kroger myself and buy the food & wine for a lot less than I did here. I might have to cook it myself, but I'll be at home, and it will be a LOT better. I wouldn't waste my time going back to this establishment, to be honest. So, the bottom line is: The wine was okay, but nothing spectacular. The food left a lot to be desired. The ambiance wasn't that great, either. If you want to pay a high cost for dinner and still make your food yourself? Go to the Melting Pot. The buffet style set up provides a limited menu. You get free beer tickets or bottle of wine with your meal, so the price isn't bad for the drinks and food.
