I wanted something special for my 200th review, and since I got engaged here, this place will work perfectly! :) I recently visited this winery for lack of anything else to do on a Sunday afternoon (that and the fact that I had Girl Scout cookies waiting for me at a house across the street.) And if you know anything about it, I like wine... a little too much... almost. This winery does their tastings a little differently and I love it! You go to the counter and can buy your sample tray ($8 for 9 samples-in which 2-3 samples equals a whole glass of wine fyi), and they give you the tray with the names of the wines and where to start with crackers in the middle and you are on your own to try them at the counter, take them outside to a picnic table, or mosey into the dimly (romantically not crappily) lit dining room and pull up a table by the fireplace if you'd like. The ambiance is what I really like about this place. And they do cookouts every weekend! They're wine is pretty good too. They offer a semi-sweet to sweet sample tray, and a dry to semi-sweet tray. We tried the sweeter one, and it was a good mix of sweet, semi, and dessert wines. Their champagne is really good as well. The honey wines at the end are too sweet and thick even for me, and I don't recommend ending on them, even though they do. It's just not a good end. They also offer tours of the winery, and have a separate room for gatherings and catering, as well as their own restaurant. It has that classy feel while still being laid back. I would recommend this place to anyone. It's one of the nicer wineries in the area. and most of their bottles are around $8-$20 read more

Woo hoo! My 100th review! It's a big day...Valley, I saved my 100th review for you. Aww. I'm writing this review based soley on Valley's merits as a Winery- not as a dining location- I have never actually dined here. I imagine it is the same sort of deal as the other local winery that does grill your own...I'm not a giant fan of that. I brought two girlfriends here from out of town, one of whom used to live out in Wilmington, so she had been before. I first heard of Valley from some friends who went to the Wine Festival there one year- and it became such a legendary night that we started making it a yearly event until one of the guys moved away. We showed up at VV around 4:25 on a Saturday afternoon- when they were supposed to close for dinner prep at 4:30. We expected to either be turned away or kind of be shunned for showing up so close to closing time. We were so pleasantly surprised that not only did they not turn us away, they welcomed us with open arms and took extra time to discuss our selections with us because they were not yet busy with dinner guests. They cleared a table for us (that had already been set up for a dinner that evening) and helped us pick out our wines. We did two tastings between the 3 of us and each of them cost around $8- and had enough small samples to be equivalent to an entire bottle of wine! That is a STEAL! We were able to sit and enjoy our tasting while we waited for one of the girls' parents to drop by to bring her something. We enjoyed nearly all the wines we tried (which was nearly all of them) and each ended up buying a LOT! As a red wine drinker- I tend to like some of the drier wines a little more- and I know that most grapes grown in Ohio do not lend themselves well to dry wines like that. (Niagara- you know how sweet that is- it's juice!) Well, I was pleasantly surprised by the offerings at VV. I was also surprised that I actually did REALLY like the sweeter wines too! Service was very disappointing for the price of a high end event that costed thousands of dollars,servers were rude an unaccommodating for an event that was planned months ahead of time they acted like even getting a napkin for someone was a bother ,the attitudes were terrible, I do not recommend for any event you want to feel joyful and friendly many of our guest was talking about the service of this place maybe they all need training since these are new owners and their standards are not as high when it comes to making the customers have a good rememberable experience as the previous owners . read more

I took 27 people to this place last Saturday. We have been going here for over 25 years 2-3 times per year. The original owners have sold and the new owners need to pay better attention to the product they are putting out there. The baked potatoes were cold and hard as rocks. The rice pilaf was cold. The Veggies were warm, but uninspiring. The steaks looked as if they were cut by an apprentice butcher. The cheesecake was frozen. VERY DISAPPOINTED! I had already scheduled a group for 2 weeks from now of 20. It will improve or it will my last visit. Sad! read more

This review is for their beer ONLY, which comes out of their brewery in the basement, aptly called Cellar Dweller. This place has a great vibe to kick back and relax with a beer or two; the owners for many decades have left the 70's decor intact, and it has been well preserved, right down to the b&w grapevine wallpaper and screaming red Formica in the john; pretty cool ambience. A nice wood burning fireplace in the middle of the "drinking room", and overall unique building create a really cozy atmosphere. To be candid, their beers used to taste similar to the brewery name. However, there's a new brewer I'm told, by a friend in the craft brewing industry. The quality and variety of the beers have changed greatly for the better. Wife and I have been there twice in a month, once with neighbors who also like craft brews. Beer is now excellent and I'd say close to outstanding. 7-9 different styles, and all thumbs up. We met the brewmaster (CJ) one evening and he was kind enough to show us his very fine operation downstairs (in the cellar). Before You Go: As far as the food operation, it's a bit odd: they do have a "bar/pub" menu, but they shut it down at 4PM and then it is their dinner menu, which is a grill-your-own outside steak/salmon thing, which is not my style (and we've not tasted the bar food). Also, check the hours of operation: I believe they are closed Mondays & Tuesdays. read more

What I did like; not much unfortunately? The idea of having to cook your own meat initially sounds like fun; unless you're the last seating (7PM) of the night. In which case the grill is only slightly still hot, the staff didn't seemed concerned that it was taking 30-40 minutes to cook salmon and steak, and the general grilling area was a disaster. Once that is done, which took longer than necessary you get to get sides buffet style which again were like warm. So the food preparation already left a sour taste. Beer was better than wine, or so I hear since I don't drink beer. Albeit I'm not a sommelier; the wine is at best "decent". My preference is dry, they do dry wines "OK" I still felt like they were sweeter than they should've been. The honey mead however was easily the best mead I've ever had. read more

This place is a bit out of the way but since I like to explore the local wineries/craft breweries I made the drive out with some friends. The ambiance is quite nice, especially if the weather is nice they have chairs and tables set up outside. Came here for Cellar Dweller beers and weren't disappointed. It's the best flight deal in town (although admittedly out of town). 10 tastes for $10. The anniversary Chocolate Barrel aged Sweet Imperial is a special treat. Jeremiah's India Pale Ale is my personal favorite. Definitely worth the trip. read more

Don't get angry about the old German woman that takes your money... She's part of the charm of this place. I've been going here for 6 or 7 years and the addition of their own beer is the best thing to happen to it in that time. The food is pretty good for the price and you can't complain about your steak bring over cooked. Cellar Dweller Brewery, Tried the hazelnut coffee stout. expensive pint of beer, $7.00. It was pretty good though. Sat outside under a umbrella in the rain. Inside is not very welcoming. Not sure what was inside. Walk inside to a bar right inside the door. Looked like just wine so asked where the brewery was. Right here. Ok. I think they had food but again didn't see any signs and the people behind the bar didn't offer any info. read more

We are in the area on vacation. We enjoy both breweries and wineries so we stopped here. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The pizza and pretzel were delicious! The Mary Morrow East Coast IPA was great, with a piney taste that finished great. I wished we were in the area longer so we could take part in the Weekend Cookout. The Twilight Canoe and Dinner for Two was just getting ready to leave and looked like a blast. Wish we could've gone. read more

The old lady and came out here the other weekend for a romantic tube ride down the Little Miami catered by Valley Vineyards. We used our NPR promo code and got a deal (100$ for both of us). Food was great! Corn on the cob and cherry cobbler! The wine was delicious and fresh. Our tour guide said it was made that morning! The good stuff. The floating tube ride was fun, a little dark and turbulent, my old ball and chain and I got separated from the group but luckily she planned ahead and brought a tent and we just camped in the woods until a scavenger or maybe vandal found us a couple nights later! I have been here 3 times and absolutely love this place. It does help to know what to expect, though. Plan on arriving early so you can sample the wine and beers. Two drink tickets per person are included with your meal and they, in the past, have always been helpful and allowed you to sample what they have before you choose. In addition to homemade wines they also have a nice selection of homemade craft beers. Once seated you will choose your meat and head out to the grill to cook your own food. I have never had a problem with this and the food was delicious every time. We have always gotten the steak. Admittedly, it doesn't look fantastic when you get it but the taste is solid once cooked. The sides and desserts and also made in house and all you can eat. We usually the spend some time afterwards sitting outside while having another drink and enjoying the atmosphere and friends. Lastly, the star had always been very kind and personable. This is one of my favorite places to go! read more

The first time my husband and I ate here was 2005. We did not have a positive experience but gave them a second chance last night as we were part of a group. We were very disappointed again. I am not an expert on wine so I will not speak to its quality. I will say I appreciated that we were given the opportunity to sample wines before making a choice. The food is horrible. Our reservation was at 7:00pm. By the time we waited in line for our tickets and wine and then ate our salads it was 8:00pm. They were out of salmon. The place was packed yet not all of the grills were running. We waited to get a spot at the grill. The grills were not very hot and when I inquired I was told there was nothing they could do as the grills start cooling off at 8:00pm (the restaurant is open until 11:00pm). When the steaks were finally done, we got our side items. We had to wait ten minutes for the bake potatoes to be done (they still weren't cooked all the way). The green beans were cold, the mixed vegetables had way too much butter on them. The salad choices were both iceberg lettuce mixes (including carrots and cabbage). One choice was so soaked in dressing it didn't look edible (it contained olives, tomatoes, and a few slices of pepperoni). The other choice was just the lettuce mix. The bread was good. We made garlic bread out of it. Our steaks were cold by the time we sat down and they were so tough they were difficult to cut (our steaks were cooked to medium). Not all of the dessert choices were available by the time we got to dessert. I had chocolate pie and my husband has cheesecake. The desserts were fine. The restaurant was so loud we could barley hear anyone in our party except for the people sitting directly next to us. read more

If I could give this no stars I would. From the moment we stepped in the door the staff was less than accommodating. They charge $32.50 per person for steak or salmon and 2 glasses of wine. This would be totally fine, however I'm pregnant and a vegetarian. Upon asking the cashier if I could possibly get the "Under 18" option for these reasons she became visibly upset and said she couldn't do anything about it and if we had a problem we could talk to the owner. Speaking to the owner got us no where and she didn't offer an apology for the way her employee had acted. She instead insisted that people come up with "silly excuses" all the time and they can't change their prices every time someone comes up with something. I'm almost 7 months pregnant and there's no hiding the fact. When returning to the cashier she continued the same attitude she had before and by this time the entire night was on its way to being ruined. We decided we wanted to leave and asked for a refund. Not one person had gone through the line for food or drinks and when we asked for a refund due to poor service we were all rudely denied. I would like to note that not anywhere does it state that they do not offer refunds, we had also only been there for 20 min and in that time we were completely disrespected by the staff, owners included. Just to add, they do not comply to the rules and regulations of Ohio liquor laws and they do not ID you unless they believe you to be under 21. I've never been to a more poorly run establishment in my life and I am appalled by the blatant disrespect and the rudeness that we were offered by the staff last night. I will tell everyone I can about how horrible this place is and I will never return. read more

So, this is a place with a rather unique concept. For $60, you get: - Choice of a NY strip or salmon - Two different types of salad - Corn on a cob - Choice of four desserts - One bottle of wine, or two glasses of different wines for each diner. The reason this is unique is because you get to cook your own steak and salmon. Now, understand that Valley Vineyard is located in rural Ohio. And as with most rural areas, grilling is a fact of life. I lived in rural America for pretty much half of my life, so I am no stranger to it. For the good: 1. You have complete control over how well the steak (and salmon) is cooked, to the extent that you are able to, that is. 2. You have complete control over how to season your steak (and salmon) with a selection of store-bought spice rubs and garlic salt. I remember seeing monterey, apple wood, and lemon pepper seasonings. Obviously, lemon pepper is for the salmon. 3. All salad, corn, and desserts are pretty much unlimited. No one will stop you from getting seconds. Just don't get too greedy in consideration of other diners. 4. Their pre-mixed salad on our visit was Greek salad. It was tastefully dressed with olives, pepperoni, and feta cheese. It was delicious. 5. The undressed salad gives you a selection of 3 dressings: ranch, basalmic vinaigrette, and Italian. 6. There's a decent selection of wines, including both red and white of dry and semi-dry kinds. Of course, there's sweet wine too. But pairing sweet wines with either steak or salmon is seriously frowned upon by me. Now, the not so good: 1. Other reviewers are right, there's very little organization. If you don't ask, you probably won't know what to do. 2. Go early if you don't want to bump up against others. 3. Once you put your meat/fish on the grill, watch it. Because everyone else's steak/fish looks just like yours. 4. Salmon takes much longer to cook than steak, because salmon has to be grilled on tin foil so that it doesn't stick against the grill. 5. Inside gets very loud. Outside gets very smokey. Pick your poison. 6. Unless you decide to pay premium for straight up cab sauv (and others, except for chardonnay), you're stuck with mostly table wines mixed with different varietals. Not that they're bad, but wine purists might frown. 7. Parking lot definitely fills up very quickly past 7. 8. The cherry cheesecake is definitely the no bake boxed variety. We hit this spot off the Loveland trail. It's half a mile from mile 31. So totally doable. Their sweets are REALLY sweet. You've been warned. Salad is just plain bagged lettuce, there are no options to put in your salad e.g croutons, cheese etc. Not a very good setup at the bar. You have to wait in a long line behind people sampling wines, even if you know what you would like. Maybe a wait staff to actually bring drinks would help. Valley Vineyard Winery was a fun diversion while we were vacationing outside Cincy. It is both a winery and a brewhaus and dabbles a bit in mead, which makes for some interesting options. Our group tried all the different tasting flight options, sweet wines, dry wines and beers, and found something to enjoy in each of the tastings. I'm not going to claim that every offering was a big hit, but everyone found at least a couple that they liked. Additionally there was plenty of seating even for our large party of 12 and they were very friendly and quick to serve. If I'm back in the area again I'd certainly give it another go as well. read more

Tons of untapped potential here. They only stay open late (past 6pm) Thursday-Saturday. But the catch is that on Friday and Saturday they do a DIY steak dinner. So if you're not up for an expensive dinner you have to cook yourself and want a few drinks after work or on a weekend night, you have to go somewhere else. The wine, beer, food, and atmosphere give it plenty of opportunity if the place would just stay open during peak hours and reduce the "date nights". read more

What a great experience! We went for dinner on a Sunday evening. We did some free wine tasting before cashing in our drink tickets on the wine we chose. We ate salad at our reserved table before selecting our entree (steak, salmon, or shrimp skewers) and took it out on the patio to a huge BBQ where you season the meat to your liking and cook it yourself. The rest of the meal is laid out buffet style. Everything was fresh and delicious. We bought some wine and craft beer to take home. I would recommend Valley Vineyard as a an excellent stop for anyone visiting the Morrow area. read more

We love visiting wineries & going to wine tastings, and Valley Vineyards remains our favorite in the tri-state area. It is family-owned and provides a truly fun & unique dining experience. What can be more fun for a family or group dinner than sampling wines & beers made in-house, then standing around a grill together, drinking your wine and grilling your (delicious!) steak. The cuts of meat are always good quality, and the homemade desserts are delicious. The price is extremely reasonable, when you consider what you're getting - $32.50/person includes: half a bottle of wine or 2 beers, your meat (NY Strip or salmon), and all the salad, sides, bread, and desserts you can eat. Our favorite VV wines are: Vidal Blanc (a semi-sweet white that reminds me of a Reisling) and the Cabernet Franc (an exceptional red wine, which I think has even won some awards - There is an up-charge for this one, but it's worth it!) We also love Joe, who is the owner's son & can often be found working the tasting counter on the weekends. He knows his wine, knows business and is a blast to chat with while you sample your wine. Absolutely adore this place. Went to their summer festival when we first moved to the area and had a blast. Since then we've been back often and have always had a good time. The wine is as good as many we had in the Napa area but without the price or pretentiousness. We love the weekend cookouts or sitting by the wood burning fireplace in winter. The family that founded it still operates it and their passion shows through when you visit. They also recently started their own craft beer brand that is very, very good. On Fridays and Saturdays they have a non traditional steak dinner where you pick your steak and grill on these large charcoal beds. Food was good and cooked exactly the way I like it.. Har har. We came from the west coast with our noses in the air- the land of big reds and pinot's and we were quickly schooled in most things wine. The tasting room attendant was fantastic and talked with us for hours about the different growing areas and varietals native to Ohio. The wine was great and we brought back a half case to share with friends... Most of it didn't make it out of our house. If you like wine, heck if you might like wine make a stop and do a tasting.
