The concept of this place is great, but the execution seems to be off. I thought the jar idea was cute, but it's $7 for a tiny jar of cheesecake. The one I selected was the sea salt mocha, but didn't taste the sea salt or the mocha. It just tasted bland and stale..not sure if it had been sitting a while or what. My husband got the oreo cheesecake slice which was $6 for a much bigger portion but they don't offer all of the flavors as a slice. The flavor of the oreo was better, but the texture was pretty dense and not light and airy. Also the service was abrupt, with no pleasantries and a, "take your cheesecake and go" kind of attitude. Honestly, probably one of the best cheesecake I've ever had. I got the cookies and creme, sea salt Carmel, and the original. I love moist cheesecake and Val's cheesecake is so fluffy and moist. His crust to the cheesecake isn't hard nor does it taste like sand. His mini mason jar are layered properly to where you can taste every part of the cheesecake along with the right amount with every bite! This cute little cheesecake stop is right next to grapevine bar! It's a little ordering window and everything is pretty self explanatory. I ordered the mojito cheesecake which was very light and a subtle taste of lime. Then the lover lane which was a red velvet. There's not a lot of seating options but it's a small little to go place. The jars are super cute and defiantly worth checking out if you are in the area! You can even catch Val making cheesecakes through the window! read more

AMAZINGGGGGGG. Val recommended the banana cheesecake in a jar, it was divine. For double the size, you could get a slice for $7 (as opposed to the teeny jar at $6), but there seemed to be not many types of pie pieces left when I went. The jars that you can keep are adorable, but probably expensive, which could account for the $6 spent on maybe 5 bites of cheesecake. Perfect size for after a meal, but I just wish there was more cheesecake for less cost. That's the pie slice, which I will have to get next time. Wow. Some of the best cheesecake I have had in my entire life. The menu offers both sweet and savories (brisket cheesecake, anyone?). Got the red velvet and turtle chocolate jars (which are super cute but a little messy to eat out of so I wouldn't advise eating in the car). I'm not a huge fan of sweets, but the original cheesecake was absolutely fantastic. The chocolate was sweeter, but not unpleasantly so. I will say that the red velvet tasted wonderful but lacked texture; the turtle chocolate was a little too sweet but had great texture. Val's hits the spot everytime! With the cheesecakes in a small jar, it's just the right amount of dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth. Not to mention, the jars are so cute and very instagramable ;) sea salt mocha and lemmon ave are winners in my book. The cakes are layered nicely in the jar so you're not stuck with only topping without crust. The folks there have always been nice and helpful in explaining what is in each cake (it can be taxing having to go through each one and describe it!). Perhaps if they included a laminated sheet by the window with the ones that they always have (Lemmon, Royal, Greenville, etc) with details of what's in them, it could save time. I could have gotten way better and way bigger portions at the cheesecake factory or ordered a whole cheesecake from Junior's. I'm extremely disappointed. Thank you, Yelp, for helping us find this mom and pop shop! After hanging around Deep Ellum on a Saturday afternoon, we wanted to see what dessert places were available in the city. Val's Cheesecakes is nestled right next to what seems like a Mexican restaurant, but you can definitely see it from the street. We got the Royal Lane, Classic Cheesecake in a jar with strawberry, and the red velvet. The red velvet and strawberry were DELICIOUS. Only gripe is how expensive it is for such a small jar. I would easily pay $6 for the next size mason jar but unfortunately not for this size. Heard the slices are more generous for just a dollar more so if we ever get to come around here again, we'll probably try that! They have one parking spot right next to the little bakery, but there's a lot more parking just around the corner. read more
