Support small businesses!!! Val's is a small shack located on the side of the street next to the Grapevine bar. Honestly, if you were driving even mildly fast, you will probably miss it. Sure it's not big, but looking at their hand written/drawn menu on the window was really sweet. I'm a kinda artsy guy, so it's always refreshing to see some creativity. Secondly, the workers are really helpful and nice. It was my first time here and I was purchasing a couple cheesecakes for my friend, the server recommended a couple of them and was really genuine about his choices. I really appreciated that. On to the cheesecakes. They are in jars. Yes. Cheesecakes. In jars. Yes. Each jar probably equates to one small-medium slice of cheesecake. So each one is a pretty good serving size. The cool thing is 1) the jar looks super hipster and I bet nobody else has something like this, and 2) you can close the jar if you don't finish all of it, and 3) the cheesecake tastes great! Recommendations include strawberry and nutella!! :D They also offer some "savory" cheesecakes, to which I was a bit skeptical about. I am very curious so the next time I visit I will be sure to try one out. One potential downside of the place is that each jar is about 5-6 dollars, which can seem pricey. I honestly don't think I did for the simple reason that it wasn't incrementally better over a lot of the cheesecake I've had in my day nor was it any better than the brisket in and around Dallas. Now, the more traditional Cookies & Cream cheesecake cup, on the other hand, was very good indeed. Creamy flavorful cheesecake, oreo crumbles on top, and a chocolatey cream of some sort on the bottom. I think I would have liked it a bit more if it were all blended together, but I appreciated the layers, the portions, and the consistency. I stopped by Val's Cheesecakes yesterday after lunch for a quick dessert. After having been recommended by a local, we stopped by and had a taste. If you know what you're getting into, it's a fine dessert place. My first impression was that it was small. The jars the "cheesecakes" come in are pretty tiny, and they come at a price of $6 or so. While cute and a novel idea, I typically wouldn't be impressed. I guess "impressed" isn't the right word, because I still am not blown away by the quality or quantity, but it was tasty. If you know what the deal is, it's not a bad idea to swing by -- just don't expect a whole lot! Val is a nice guy, though. Very friendly and personable, he was outside messing with balloons while we were there. I may try another dessert place next time I'm in Dallas, but Val's is worth a try! read more

The Elvis is banana cheesecake with peanut butter cream, served on nutter butter crust. Not overwhelmingly peanut buttery or creamy. It had a nice aroma and perfect cheesecake consistency. The Amor Prohibido had a delicious raspberry preserve dollop atop sweet vanilla cheesecake on an amaretto crust. Some of the best cheesecake I've ever had. I came here after dinner on a Sunday evening. My friend found it on Yelp after a search of dessert places open after 7pm. We looked at reviews and decided to try it. It is like a hole on a wall along Maple and Shelby. I chose the Lovers Lane, which is a Red Velvet flavor. I was attracted to how it was packaged from gazing at photos via Yelp. It was packaged in mason jars and looked portion friendly. What strikes me about the Lover's Lane was it was not as sweet and it was just the right amount of sweetness that I needed. Not much to say here except that it was some pretty amazing cheesecake! It's a tiny little spot right beside Grapevine Bar. Beware, parking is very limited, but not enough to keep me away. They have a big variety of cheesecake options. You can buy it by the slice or if you don't want to feel extra guilty, they have small little jars of several flavors. The price was around $7, so it's definitely a treat, but in my opinion, it's totally worth it. I went for the chocolate cheesecake and I didn't regret it one bit! His cheesecakes have the right level of sweetness and tangy from the cream cheesecake. His "Bae"cheesecake is also great; but I wanted more of the delicious toppings. The Red Velvet cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory is still my favorite because I like their addition of white chocolate. I have been hearing about Val's from quite some time now and decided to stop in while at the Grapevine bar. First impression, the guy at the counter was incredibly helpful and tolerated my questions, problems (I'm dairy free), an requests. I explained that since I was dairy free- he had one bite to impress my palate. As I spoke to him at the counter I made observations within the shack. I see they use Daisy sour cream. I'm thinking $6 for a tiny jar or cheesecake that uses Daisy sour cream (plain Jane). Moving on- I had one bite of the 007 (apparently the first night on the menu). The taste was good, but not great. The flavor was definitely lacking acidity (it needed lemon or lemon zest to balance out the sweet and tart flavor). I liked that there were two blackberries maybe should've been more. Second pick- red velvet. The cheesecake was still just good but still felt lacking in flavor, in my opinion. The flavor a seemed to balance and come together better on this one, but this was still not a blow my socks off kind of cheesecake. I don't think it had anything to do with the fact I had one bite that I savored of second of to really taste and take it flavors of the cheesecake. For $6-- the portion is overall too small for the price and cheap ingredients. Yes the jars are cute and you get to keep them but 2 cheesecakes with tax $12.99. I would vote for you to stop in that cake store with a cute name, disposable containers, and three sizes to choose from. I'm sorry but this was a miss for me. read more

Val's is a cute walk up window shop where you can purchase a variety of cheesecake jars and slices. At 6.50 for a tiny jar, it's not cheap, but an experience any cheesecake lover should try. We got the Lovers Lane (red velvet) and Lemmon Ave (lemon) cheesecake jars. The Lovers Lane was good but disappointing. With the jars I was expecting the cheesecake to be red velvet flavored, but instead it was a layer of red velvet cake, cheesecake and topped with red velvet crumbles. The Lovers Lane was extremely dense and heavy, not as light and airy as I would have liked. The Lemmon Ave was the same format, but with a lemon cake at the bottom, lemon infused cheesecake in the middle and crumbles of cake at the top. This was delicious, light and creamy like cheesecake should be. Not as dense as the Lovers Lane. Tart but really sweet at the same time. Would I go back again? Parking was limited, and the place was a little wooden shack, but it still looked promising. There were many cheesecakes to try. I went for the Greenville Avenue and the Banana Pudding cheesecake. They must have been running low because they only had a couple of flavors to choose from in the slices so I decided on one of the jars. The board said that the lemon avenue also had raspberries. After I drove away with my brown bag, I discovered my jar was lemon only (no raspberries). I didn't realize the cashier had slipped a wooden popsicle spoon-like utensil in the bag but luckily I had a spare plastic spoon in my vehicle. The cheesecake was okay. I've definitely had better. This place was incredible. I called in advance to ascertain they were open (you never know during COVID) and they were super polite. I got there quickly and the safety measures they had in place were great. I felt very safe and I received my order very promptly. I got the "Cookies and Cream" cheesecake jar. It was delicious!
