These Guys are fast (15 minutes) once they had the part. They also know what they are doing. The muffler was falling off of my older Mercedes and they were able to get the part and fix within 2 hrs on a Saturday afternoon. The price was higher than I expected (due to the part cost).. About $100 less than dealer. Unlike the other reviewers here, I am sure that I paid the "Mercedes" price vs the average car price (not in the mood to shop around or bargain hard) Repair should have been $475 vs $650. The good thing is that they got it right, fast with no BS and used quality parts. I guess there is a price for convenience and competence. read more

Went here after looking at all the reviews and hoping to get a reasonable quote on fixing my catalytic converter after it being stolen. It was making an awful noise, felt like I was driving a race car. Unfortunately a sensor was damaged too but I really just wanted a replacement converter to fix the noise problem. He quoted me at $800 for the sensor and the converter and $600 for the converter alone with labor. I don't much about cars but that seemed pretty damn steep. I ended up going to my local Velazquez and Sons and a very nice, honest mechanic there did the job for $280 and even said he'd do the sensor with labor for $300 if I chose to do so later. I guess I just wasn't one of the many lucky people who got great, quality work and affordable prices. I just know I won't be coming here again. read more

I went once based on yelp reviews. My mid pipe rusted at the muffler and was dragging. They welded it back up and installed a new hanger for 50 bucks. They were quick and nice. I would go back for similar issues. read more

Stop by this morning to find out how much a muffler would set me back. There was only 1 car ahead of me so they were able to quickly put my car up on the lift and showed me the problem. I stayed and watched them work on my car which only took about 1/2 hour. The price was totally reasonable and I would differently go back. This is a fairly small shop, no frills (waiting area consistent of a few chairs right in the shop itself) but who cares if the are friendly (which they were) and the prices are reasonable. read more

I first found this business on Yelp and thought the reviews were sincere, and now I'm adding another great review to the bunch. My muffler was getting louder and louder each week, so after putting it off as long as I could (I really hate dealing with car repair places!), I finally took it to Value Plus -- on a Sunday morning, no less. The guys replaced the muffler and all the pipes in between the muffler and including the front flex pipe--for $200. It took less than an hour. As other reviewers mentioned, the waiting room is not very inviting, especially being so close to where the cars are repaired (with sparks flying and exhaust fumes), but on a sunny winter day, I had no qualms about walking around the neighborhood while my car was getting repaired. They also do oil changes for a lot less than other places in the city, so I might just have to go back when my oil needs changing. read more

I went here to get an exhaust leak fixed on my 1990 Nissan 240SX. I thought it was the down pipe from the manifold to the converter. They took it in and called me later letting me know if was just a gasket at the converter. $60 and done the same day in hours even though there were several cars ahead of me! I am pretty mechanically inclined, but sometimes I just don't have the tools or the time to do what I need to do. This is usually the case with exhaust work. If it requires welding I just stay away. I am also very skeptical of mechanics and ask those close to me to have me shop around for the mechanic. I also usually will show up to the mechanic with new parts in hand if I don't just do the repairs myself. Anyway I showed up to Value Plus Mufflers at 5:35pm and they close at 6pm. They had a packed shop. They finished the 2 cars ahead of me and motioned me to pull up. They had my car on the lift and had the flex pipe replaced in 20 minutes! He showed me his welds, top notch, and showed a small hole he patched. $70!!! AND they were super friendly to boot! Seriously can't say enough about these guys. They do great work, great price, great disposition. We were the last car in the shop and they were already breaking out the Modelo as we were backing up. I gave them a $10 tip but I wish now I had bought them another 12 pack. read more

I had a great experience here. I had called just to feel out the place, One of the mechanics picked up and told me just to bring the car by anytime and he would at least give me a free estimate. When I took my car by they put it on a lift and immediately showed me what the problem was with my tailpipe. They offered to do it for me for $30 and had it done within the hour. Called Value Plus Mufflers on Sunday and told them what kind of car I have, they gave me a fair price over the phone, with a $20.00 more or less, depending on the work and if the old parts come off easy, I was in and out within 1 hour and it only cost $160.00, when most places wanted more. I took my 1997 Chevy there today. My car muffler got detached due to severe rusting problem. The expert Eduardo inspected everything under the car and told me what needs to be fixed ASAP, and gave me a very reasonable price for parts and labor. It took him less than 30 minutes to replace the muffler, tail pipe and soldered loose fitting things associated with the pipes..I drove my car and sounds like new again..no more roaring lion noise. These guys are awesome, called, came in with an 02 G500 with a hole in a flange of the muffler assembly, the guys were able to put it on a rack, showed me their suggestions which was to replace both flanges, all done for an extremely reasonable price and in under 1/2 hour. Went here on a Sunday. Was late 20 minutes for my appointment but still took care of me. I had my exhaust repaired as the muffler tip was hitting the bumper. Humberto took care of me. He didn't stop until I was satisfied with the position of the muffler tip. He ended up heating the pipes and bending it a bit down so the muffler tip wont hit the bumper. After that, he suggested to add 3 exhaust hangers welded to the chassis so the exhaust won't move when accelerating. Very satisfied with their work. On top of that, he charged me $40 for everything. Highly recommend this shop. I recently went in with a noise from what appeared to be the exhaust. He replaced a front pipe, a resonator and welded another new pipe to the existing muffler rather than replacing it and said the existing muffler was still of better quality than a new one he could install and that a new one would cost a lot. I was there on a not extremely busy day so I waited, and it was done in 90 minutes at a very fair price. Honest shop. Recommended!! read more

Went this afternoon because SUV was sounding like a Formula 1 race car. The guys at Value Plus were fantastic. They raised the car and let me see the hole in the muffler. Then, in 11 minutes, changed the muffler and I was ready to go. Service was given with a smile and explanations about what they would do and how much I would pay. First off, thank you to Yelp and all the reviewers who helped us find Value Plus Mufflers. I have lived within walking distance of this shop for about 18 years and although I so wish I had found them sooner, I am sure glad through Yelp, that I found them now. It is a relief to discover a business of any kind who does not unnecessarily inflate their prices while giving excellent service and expertise...especially when it involves our car. It was the easiest, most pleasant, most efficient experience I have ever had with a car repair in my life. No exaggeration. The pipe connecting our muffler rusted clear through and was very noisy. I was considering going to our regular shop which we have been very pleased with, but we know there are places who specialize in mufflers who do a good job for possibly less. We found Value Plus, again thanks to Yelp, and could not be happier! They took us quickly when arriving after informing us by phone that we did not need an appointment. We were greeted immediately at the door with a handshake from the mechanic, Angel, who is very pleasant. The owner of 18 years, Hilario, came to greet us quickly afterward and they both looked at the problem. They noticed the other side was about to rust off as well and asked if we wanted both sides done. They quoted a very fair price. They also looked at the whole length of the undercarriage and determined that everything else looked okay. Then we were told it would probably take 30 min. We walked around for a bit and by the time we came back, they were done. I think it took them less than the time expected. Our car was being elevated on the lift as we arrived as Angel thought we might have an oil leak. At that time, I could see what a good job they had done on fixing the connection. It was welded very skillfully with a brand new pipe. I could also see why he thought that there might be an oil leak as it was rather wet by the pan and something had leaked on the ground. He assured me it was okay. I double checked possibly giving someone less honest an opening to take advantage of me, and again, he assured me it was fine. On the receipt, I noticed there was a 1 yr. warranty for the work which may be typical, but was reassuring. We drove away and the car ran beautifully, and thankfully, quietly. I cannot recommend this shop enough. They do much more than just mufflers and we intend to give them as much repair business as they can handle and we may need. We are definitely going to recommend them to as many people as we can...especially in our neighborhood. As a side note, the shop has some chairs set up where you can watch the repair being done, but there are so many places within walking distance you can go while you wait. Btw..Jeri's Diner on the corner is well known with a Chicago wide reputation of having amazing soup. We stopped in to check it out as we had heard so much about it and the waitress behind the counter was super nice...gave us water just to be nice as we made inquiries while knowing we weren't going to stay. She said that people come from far away but lots of people close by, such as ourselves, had never been. Happy to know that is there to grab soup, coffee or a full lunch while waiting.
