I get my car washed regularly at South and Bellflower. They also have a Valvoline oil change facility there, so I thought I would give them a try. I like the fact that the service takes place while you stay in your vehicle. The team there appears to be well trained and knowledgeable. I was a little put off by the numerous upsells they continued to propose while I waited for them to complete the work. Also, they are not cheap. Actually they are more expensive than having the dealership change my oil AND rotate my tires. However, they do the job in 15 minutes, vs 2 hours at the dealership. Finally, later in the day, I noticed a drop of oil on my driveway. Thinking this may have been an incidental bit of oil they failed to wipe down, I didn't give it much thought. However several days later, I found oil stains all over my driveway. I returned to Valvoline Express Care, fully prepared for them to disown responsibility for the oil leak. I was pleasantly pleased when the gentleman who I believe was the manager, immediately checked it out and said that when I had been there previously, they accidentally cracked the seal on the oil plug when they were tightening it up. In 10 minutes they repaired it and sent me on my way. So, points for acknowledging their error, and taking responsibility and repairing it. I understand there are frequently coupons available, and other promos that reduce the cost of the service. I suspect I will return if I can find a discount in the future. read more

Edward, Zach, and another team member were working when I stopped by on Saturday around 4:30 p.m. There was no wait, and everyone was friendly as always. Edward was especially personable and helpful, offering recommendations without using any high-pressure sales tactics. They had a promotion on their annual membership, normally $250 but discounted to $150 that day. It was definitely worth it for me because it included that day's full synthetic oil change, which would have cost about $140 by itself. For only $10 more, I received the annual membership and its additional benefits. The membership also included free wiper blades. They could have easily told me mine did not need to be replaced, but they actually inspected them and changed them. To me, that reflects both good service and strong ethics, especially since replacing them meant doing additional work. I also received 50% off a cabin air filter, bringing the price to a little over $25. Even though I normally replace it myself, the price was reasonable because I probably would have spent at least that much buying one on my own. I did not ask about the brand or quality of the filter, but I was satisfied with the overall value. Our Jeep Grand Cherokee is not a daily driver and had been sitting in the garage for more than eight months. I brought it in to prepare for an upcoming road trip and left very satisfied with the service, cost, and overall quality. Zach appeared to be the lead and demonstrated a lot of hands-on experience and knowledge. It is always great to see someone helping and teaching their coworkers without embarrassing, belittling, or shaming them. That says a lot about both his skills as a mechanic and his leadership. This oil change place is decent overall. I used a Groupon for the synthetic blend oil change and car wash. I will start with what I liked. Pros - I went right at 8am and was in and out quickly. It was convenient to not have to get out of my vehicle while the oil change was underway. Getting a car wash right next door was nice The staff was pleasant overall. Cons - As others have mentioned, despite using the Groupon I didn't feel that I got the best deal. I understand that the Groupon didn't include taxes but this was the first time that an oil change place has told me that I needed to pay extra for a special oil filter and I have gone to many oil change places. After taxes and the special oil filter fee the price of the overall oil change was no longer a deal but rather the same price that I would pay anywhere else. Based on comments from other yelpers it does sound like this place nickels and dimes customers with additional fees. read more

Terrible experience. I called and got a price quote from these guys for an oil change with regular non synthetic oil (which, as I explained was what my older car has always used.) . He quoted me a price of $56. When I got there the phone guy had me drive right into the service bay. (The place was empty except for me). He then insisted that I stay in my car while he performed a "safety check" of my lights, etc. I told him I was in a hurry and just wanted the oil changed. He literally told me not to get out of the car and I felt completely captive. After no "safety" problems were found, he told me that he didn't have any conventional oil and that he would have to use synthetic oil and much more money was required. I would also have to pay for a "synthetic oil filter" which I have absolutely never heard of. When I told him that I was leaving and started my engine, he yelled to me to stop because a guy was working under my engine from below ground. As soon the underground guy was clear and the guy in front slammed down my hood as hard as he could, I managed to drive out. They had actually started working on my car BEFORE a price quote was settled, probably to bully me into accepting whatever they could run up the bill to. I called and was helped by Erik and he told me he can price match my Groupon and said it was extra cause it was a 5.9 liter making me pay extra for a qt of oil and also it being European and FULL SYNTHETIC. I was quoted a total of $130 which included everything with taxes . The groupon base price of $73. I didn't hesitate lots of places wanted to charge more or didn't have availability.
