Got an oil change here yesterday. It was fine. A bit expensive. I arrived at 6:20pm falsely believing I would miss the after-work crowd. As I waited, the employee shepherded me into the other line of cars. This proved to be an irritable mistake by them as that line took longer than the line I had independently chosen for myself. During my wait I decided to make some telephone calls. No one really seemed to want to talk to me for very long. That might be more of a personal issue than a Valvoline issue. Perhaps I'll discuss that with a professional. The services rendered seemed perfectly adequate, but rather costly. They said I needed a new taillight which cost me $14. After I left, I thought, I should've independently inspected that light, what if I was taken advantage of. Now I will never know. Went in for an oil change and the guy who helped check my lights/tires etc. was super nice. I will also preface that I grew up with a dad who worked on hot rods, a grandpa who collected porsches, a brother who's a legit mechanic and hung out in audio shops in college with my buddies. So anywhere I go, I like to see how men speak to me and who's going to assume they can take me for stupid just because I'm a woman -- Anywho.. on the young kid who hopped in my passenger seat to check my cabin air filter:: 1. Didn't express its behind the glovebox and didn't ask if I was okay with it before he opened it up (which - partly my fault for just saying "yea sure" when he offered to check it, because I was looking for my wallet after thinking I forgot it and didn't think fast enough to just say no thanks like I usually do) -- either way, you should tell unknowing customers you'll need to get into the glove box before you just hop in a car and start pulling alllllllll their belongings out of there. Thankfully I didn't have my 38 in it at the time and forgot to take it out of my purse lol 2. He did NOT have to pull all the crap out of my glovebox and pile it up in my seat.....all you have to do is drop the box down. Easy peasy. Idk why he went through all my stuff piece by piece but it was skep and again, unnecessary. 3. He tried to say it was nearly SIXTY DOLLARS TO REPLACE IT AND**anddd after I said (laughingly in a polite way) yo, that's outrageous for an $11 filter I can replace myself. Thank you but I'll just pick one up on my way home .... He tried to tell me "see all that stuff? That's what you're breathing in so this really should be replaced" - I almost lost it. I calmly told him That is what I'm nottt breathing in. Because the filter. Caught it. And I really hope you're not telling people that to sell them filters. ?? He ignored everything I said, tried to offer me $10 off when I already said it's an $11 filter I can get myself around the corner at advanced. No. Thank. You. STOP. Clearly has 0 sense when someone knows you're about to rip them off and said NO. They mean NO the first time. There's nothing worse than a pushy person trying to sell you stuff. If that's how Valvoline in Hyde Park treats customers - trying to rip them off for sales? I'll never go back and highly do not recommend unless you're smart enough to say oil change only and no to everything else. I get this is a bougie area where I'm sure plenty of rich people will ignorantly agree to pay for all that jacked up pricing...but many people from the Norwood area will try to go there for fair service. And that cabin air filter experience alone is not a fair service. There were other points where he tried to push me to pay for additional things and I won't even get into it because it makes me heated all over again - and I'm sure corporate is the main to blame. I know they force their employees to go through the hoops trying to make unnecessary sales...but I've been to other locations, all where they weren't completely honest service like "we have to offer this stuff but if you don't want it or need it, we'll just do what you're here for" and drop it. type of honest no BS service. These guys are awesome! First time here, unsure if I actually needed an oil change or not since my light has come on incorrectly in the past. I drive a 2018 VW Tiguan and just moved to the area 6 months ago, so I was hesitant on where to go. From the moment I pulled up to the moment I drove away, each employee made me feel comfortable and always spoke to me with a warm smile. They answered all of my questions and walked me through exactly what they were going to do and the pricing associated. They were transparent and never tricked me into any service. I come around 11:30am on a Monday and was in and out within an hour, knowing it probably would have been quicker outside the lunch rush. S/O specifically to George for being so welcoming during my first time. Plus, it's pretty cool you can stay in your car and watch everything on the screens next to you. 10/10 recommend! This place is full super efficiently with staff that are friendly and committed to informing you of all the opportunities to optimize the performance and care of your vehicle. I have been there a few times and they have always been really polite and kind, showing me my oil levels at the end of the service, and explaining all steps of the process. The one thing I will say is be prepared to spend more than usual for the convenience of speedy service. Last time I paid $75 for a synthetic oil change without any other add on services though they did top off my vehicles liquids, check tie pressure, etc. They often have $5-$10 coupons online as well. read more

It's a textbook part of any oil change, the drain plug. I went there two times on the late model used car I bought, and both times they told me I had a slight leak, or seep, around the oil pan, where it bolts on to the engine block. This seemed odd with it being so new. Then I took it to the dealership for a warranty servicing of a check-engine light that turned out to be the O2 sensor. They looked at it and explained the oil drain plug has a 'crush washer,' a thick aluminum washer that gets crushed somewhat between the steel of the drain pan and the steel of the drain plug, making for a tight seal. They explained that the one they were pulling off to replace had been on there for multiple oil changes. So, I go to Valvoline for their reputation, and I live on the East side now so the closest one happens to border Hyde Park, another good sign. And while it has to be in their checklist to install this part, they skip it twice and (a relatively small amount) of oil leaks out and coats the underside of my car. Thing is, I went there in part because I very much don't want to have oil leaking from underneath my car. Nuff said? read more

I had just given this place a five star review because the experience was very good! What was not good is the day following this oil change I had major car issues due to the oil that was put in it. When the acceleration was basically gone in the car I got over to my regular shop as quickly as I could and they checked the codes that had shown up. Apparently the valve that sprays oil below the piston for lubrication got stuck and was putting oil into the piston chamber and causing the third cylinder to misfire. I called Valvoline and talked to someone and I asked them if maybe using synthetic oil would help with the issue and they said I could try it but I have to pay full price for everything. She did offer me a coupon for some money off, but I wasn't prepare to pay double to just be able to feel good about the initial services I needed. I decided to go to a family mechanic to have the oil replaced with what seems to be the actual correct specification of oil because all of the issues have disappeared basically instantly. I still am not entirely sure what happened but I have to say that I wonder if the Valvoline staff used the wrong specifications of oil in my engine because I have never seen it go from perfect to totally terrible functioning like this. And then when I have someone else put oil in it everything is back to normal. I would like to support this business because the staff seems so friendly but I'm not sure if I can based on the car issues I experienced. Be wary. read more

Bad & Immoral Mechanics I went for an oil change and they performed their checks as usual but took longer then normal with the oil. They then asked for a special tool below and finished up. Worried I asked them if they stripped the drain plug (the piece needed for future oil changes) meaning if they messed it up and it needed replacing. They said yes but also said they replaced it with a new one so it was fixed. I trusted them, then tipped them and went home to check if they had truly replaced it. Sure enough they stripped the drain plug which would make it harder to do in the future and is something that some shops may even charge for. Had I not checked myself they would have let me go on, even after lying in regard to my specific concern and allowing me given them a $20 tip. read more

I didn't use services at this location, but I wanted to give raving reviews of an employee that was helping direct traffic and clear up congestion around the business. There were multiple cars backed up into the shopping center streets, he was diligently working to clear up the clog of traffic. There was a very rude car that had road rage and passed multiple cars, causing a dangerous situation. That individual curse from his window to the employee, i could tell the employee was frustrated but also redirected his energy and focused on his job. If there is anything I can do and put the energy out in the universe, he modeled frustration in customer service with grace of simply staying calm and not engaging. He did great just as someone waiting to get through. If a manager sees this, can you let this employee know he did great. And if i am in the area for an oil change I'll utilize this business. Terrible service and they will damage your vehicle! I had my tires rotated at this location and they cross threaded lug nuts on multiple tires such that it cost $800 to repair this issue. They wouldn't accept responsibility or cover these costs. They were rude when we raised this issue with their customer service center. Multiple other reviews here list similar damage being caused to people's vehicles with the owner not taking responsibility for his subpar work. Terrible place, terrible management... This is was first time I've ever taken a car to have my oil changed. I have a very mechanic-savy family, and I've always had the privilege of having folks around to jack up the car and change the oil/filter ourselves. Before taking a weekend trip, though, I knew I needed to get my oil change and just wanted to get it done quickly. I called ahead to ask about pricing and was notified that the price would be about $50, but that she offered a coupon for $15 off. When I left Valvoline, my final total was $37. I was in and out in under 15 minutes, and $37 felt like a great price for the service I received. During your service, you'll stay in your car the entire time. They'll direct you which lane to pull into and guide you over the area where they have access to your oil pan. I interacted with Robert and Anthony both of whom provided excellent customer service. They explained the pricing and the procedure well and were extremely personable. The TVs to the side of your vehicle show you cameras of the people working on your car above and below- pretty cool stuff! Could I save a few bucks by buying this stuff elsewhere and having family help/doing it myself? Yeah, maybe....but honestly....for the convenience, this is hard to pass up. Beware: My 15-minute quick oil change here turned into a 3-hour+ experience that ended with my car speeding up, out of my control. I had stopped here for an oil change at 10:45 a.m., when the man helping me told me there was severe wear to my serpentine belts and offered to sell me replacements. I agreed. Then I was told they didn't have them in stock, and I'd have to wait for them to be delivered. After struggling for more than an hour to remove the old serpentine belts, he couldn't get the new ones back on. I had to wait while new ones were, again, delivered. Finally -- more than three hours later -- I drove away about 2 p.m. Daniel thanked me for my patience. I thanked him for his. I drove a few blocks and, as I was about to turn onto I-71, I noticed my car didn't feel right. I took my foot off the gas pedal. But the car sped up. I tapped the gas, tapped the brake, and lifted both feet off the pedals. The car continued to accelerate, out of my control. I passed by the interstate on-ramp and instead pulled over, slammed the brakes and threw it into park. The engine roared, and I watched as the rotations per minute soared to its max. I killed the engine before it burned out. I called Valvoline, and Daniel drove the few blocks to meet me. It turned out the Valvoline team had left one of my valves open, he told me. Daniel blamed it on debris ("a leaf stem") that got stuck, keeping the valve open, as they were looking at the air filter. He said he'd tell the guys they should be "more careful" next time. Shaken and teary, I told Daniel, "First, my 15-minute oil change turned into a 3-hour delay. Then I could have been killed just now." He responded: "I know. That's not cool." Um. Thank god no one was in front of me when my car sped up. Thank god I didn't crash into a bicyclist, a wall, a semi truck. Thank god I didn't turn onto that interstate. I'm supposed to trust you to make my car safer, not make me terrified to get behind a wheel, Valvoline. read more

I had damage done to my car when a staff member failed to attach my brake light cover back. And yet a different occasion my oil filter was not replaced(that's right some people actually check). It started with Robert, then Alex, now Dale, over a month of arguing and being berated, low balled, offered coupons, being told dealers lie, insinuating consumers lie because when I was stranded off the interstate with 3 children because smoke was blowing out of the back of my car, and oil alarms were going off, I had it towed to a dealer 4 days after my oil change here. My husband had to leave work to help since it was over 90 outside, we missed our movie I was taking my kids to. Everything is on us, $375 later and $80 spent on my oil change, have receipts from work and dealer, but you're not ALLOWED to use your mechanic when something is wrong with your engine. It's been a long time since I've been to a service shooter solely specializes in fluid changes. So it was a bit challenging when running thru this experience. However, the trip and the wait was worth it! They took care of my oil change issues in a very professional manner. They are clean, quick and easy to work with. But, still feel the oil change costs are a bit pricy - $39.99 for the premium oil - lowest of the choices available. Regular oil changes at bigger service shops are usually around $20. More so, don't expect them to troubleshoot other issues aside from their core trade. For example, my AFS indicator showed as "off" on my dashboard which turns off when messing around with suspension. This issue was left unresolved because the technician had never seen it before and didn't attempt to find out and fix. Felt like at this point if I was at Jiffy Lube or something, they would have taken care of it right away. Aside from this small hiccup - the service was clean and quick! 15 min wait + 10 min job - and done! As a first timer, ended up getting a discount of about $20 - $15 offered by the technician and $5 from online coupons at the company website. Overall a positive experience! I used to dread getting an oil change because I used to do it at the dealership. It took forever and the salesmen gave me sleazy eyes. This location just opened and I was due so I decided to check out what it meant to get an Instant Oil Change. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I could pull right up, no appointment necessary, and sit in my car the whole time in the warm heat and playing on my cell phone while nice guys tinkered under my hood. Like other women out there, I HATE getting my oil changed. Between being scammed out of unnecessary money and being hit on...there are not many things that I enjoy less than getting my oil change. It is normally the most painful 20 minutes of my year. Anyway, they were GREAT! I had Kelsey and a very goofy (in a good way) guy and they were both courteous, friendly, and fast. They explained everything they were doing and never pressured me to buy more than I needed. I even had a Goupon for $17 which made the whole experience better. I don't relish getting my oil change (ugh, time and money spent that are so necessary but so irksome). It seems hard to find a median, since you either pay for the luxury of a quick change - or wait 45 minutes with the other stiffs for a cheaper oil change. However, I was VERY impressed with the customer service and even happy-ish with my experience at this particular Valvoline! (Sorry, no oil change will ever make a girl's dream day entirely). But this one came close! The manager, Anthony, was friendly and warm on the phone (picked up at the first ring, this stuff matters to me!), and urged me to bring in their $10 off coupon (whittled the cost closer to what I am used to paying back in Tiny Town, USA). These guys are FAST - I stayed in the car the whole time and by the time I answered all of the technician's questions and made payment, the process was completed! Anthony + the other two technicians were very quick, efficient, and professional. They say things like "ma'am" and "thank you" - I love that. No creepy come-ons, condescension or fast-talking sales,( i.e., "your car is a hoop-dee and you should pay us $5 million dollars to fix it or it will explode"). I hope they have coupons every 3,000 miles! I definitely feel like I can recommend this particular location to females from my experience, because the technicians are so courteous and efficient. read more
