My 15-minute oil change took 1 hour and 23 minutes. I understand things can take longer than expected, but the communication and expectations were really poor. All I heard was "sorry for the wait" and "it should be soon." As the line backed up behind me, they shifted manpower to the newer arrivals to keep those customers from leaving, which only made those of us already waiting wait even longer. And once your car is in, you can't exactly leave, which makes clear and reasonable expectations even more important. The actual service was good. The communication was awful. read more

I have been coming here for years and never have I gotten in and out in the 15 minutes they advertise. If there are cars in front of me, they tell me it will be about a 15 minute wait. In reality it's more like 30+ minutes before you're in the bay. I have always questioned whether it's a dishonest tactic to get you to stay or if they are just so disorganized that they don't know how long it actually takes. Today I came right at opening time in hopes it would be around the 15 minute mark. I was the first one in my bay and it still took over 50 minutes. This also included a lecture from one of the techs ... which I wonder if I would have gotten the same lecture if I were a dude. It's especially frustrating and annoying when I see cars who pulled in after me leave before me, and techs gone from my car for extended periods of time (talking, working on other cars that came in after me) which happened today and has happened multiple times in the past. I've continued to come back over the years because the techs are usually courteous and the location is convenient, but after this experience today I have reached my tipping point of tolerance and will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Worst Valvoline to go to... bad service when waiting patiently being moved back. Waste of an hour waiting and just left. Not worth your time for sloppy service. Was in line where the associate told me to go, 45 minutes later associate told me a person behind me is complaining that they lost their spot the service technician said that I was on camera, long story short the white jeep wasn't there when I pulled in. Lying to a customer is absolutely the worst service ever. So I made a quick exit and will go somewhere else after being a long time customer at this location. read more

I've been here several times with long waits either because they're teaching new people or they're offering services that slow the entire machine down and everybody with it. Nothing quite like having the newbies work on your car This last visit was a disaster not only did they put 10 pounds more pressure on each right side tire than the left but they used the wrong oil! They don't take you the order you arrive. Was told to wait in a certain bay for service while I waited 40 minutes to watch 2 cars come and go that came after me. I left without getting my oil changed because the car in front didn't look like it was anywhere near being finished. No one ever came out to greet me or let me know what was going on. 117.40 for an oil change. First time in my life I've payed that much. I let them know I wanted to use the Groupon that would have made the price drop to 53 early on. They just ignored how uncomfortable I was and gave me no alternative. The Groupon takes 24 hr to activate so I would have just left and come back another time. There's another coupon for 20% off through Yelp that they didn't want to mention. They added some 8 dollar premium filter charge without giving me options or explanations. Lied about filling my air pressure to 35 as it says on the form. It's like they were in a rush to get me to leave cause they were afraid I'd find the coupons. Look on the bright side, after being snubbed so intently that you are now confused about why you allowed the sucker punch bill, at least the sneaky and greedy and sniveling and cantankerous vibes will wear off. Called Valvoline Dana Point/ Doheny to get a price for an oil change. They quoted a price of $147 after a $15 off coupon and said they did not have my oil filter in stock. They said I would need to buy one and bring it in and they would take and additional $10 off. When I showed up for the service the rep said they could not credit me for the filter and said if I gave them my personal information for promotions they would send me a 50% of coupon from their marketing department. Needless to say, I never got the 50% of coupon and will never go back. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!Went in for an oil changes two days ago. All seemed well, changed the oil and filter (?) checked all the fluids, lights, air filter, etc. I went today to get the front end aligned today at Caars. They said one of the issues is the tires are over inflated. Should be 30-33 PSI but we're actually 63 PSI!!!!! Maybe because I didn't buy all the add ons they tried to force on me, I don't know. But the specifically called out the recommended PSI then overinflated. My kids, wife and I will never go here again!!!! read more

My truck over heated and the radiator was empty. I filled it with water to get me back on the road. I went to Valvoline to flush out the water and add coolant. When I was troubleshooting to find out why my truck was overheating I noticed that the fluid in the reservoir looked just like water. I went back to ask what color there coolant was. They offered to replace it. It turns out that the coolant they use is a light yellow, and in my old discolored reservoir it looks just like water. Recently came in to get an oil change on my car. I got an oil change, and asked them to replace the bulb in my brake light as it wasn't working. They tried to replace the bulb, and they told me it wasn't working and that I'd need to see a mechanic to look at the wiring for it. That's fine. Throughout the entire process I was constantly being asked by the employee if I'd like to buy other things. Such as a lightbulb, if I'd like a radiator flush, etc. I wasn't super upset that he was trying to sell me stuff, just kind of wanted to get the oil change done and leave. That's besides the point. I got my car looked at by a mechanic today as per the employees advice. Not only did they fix the bulb problem right away, but they told me all that I needed was a new bulb... so what happened at Valvoline that the bulb wasn't working? I also found out that my oil was overfilled by a whole quart. This can cause some big issues especially in an older car like mine. I'm not happy with my experience here and will be taking my business elsewhere. I shouldn't have problems with my oil right after I get an oil change. read more

I had been coming here for over 5 years with 2 different cars never had an issue until now. But it seems their technicians need more training. I went for the usual oil change but it took forever come to find out they couldn't take the oil cap off without force which would cause it to crack. They said they'd order me new one asap so they can do the oil change. Here we are a week later not a single follow up and meanwhile my car is leaking oil. I had previously been to a Valvoline location, and I was completely unsatisfied. Shortly after that, I purchased a new vehicle, and until now my dealer has been providing free oil changes. It was now time for me to find a new location, so I checked out the reviews for a Valvoline in Dana Point and decided to give it a try. From the moment I arrived, until the moment I left, I was completely satisfied. Both Joseph and Evan were professional, helpful, pleasant, willing to answer my many questions, went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and confident that they were capable and were doing an excellent job taking care of my fairly new vehicle. Everything was done with what could be called full disclosure. I was able to watch them do what they were doing, understand what they were doing, and had everything explained to me as they were doing each procedure. The only thing that was suggested was a tire rotation, so I did check my dealer's previous work and saw that one was due, but it was more my suggestion than theirs. I even asked Joseph if it might be time to check the in cabin air filter, and he said that it was probably too early, but he would check it anyway for me, and so he did. As he suspected, the filter was in good shape, and not in need of being replaced at this time. I received a full, detailed explanation of everything that was checked and performed, and I left feeling happy and confident that I now know where to go the next time I need an oil change and minor services done. read more

AVOID. THE WORST. What should have been a simple oil change turned into a nearly 400$ bill. My husband took our van in for an oil change a couple weeks ago. The next day I pick my children up, go inside of our house and hear frantic banging at my front door. Our neighbor was flipping out telling me to get outside and drive away. Our van had literally poured oil from one end of our hood to the other. At that point it had stopped because the engine was off but the minute it started up it started gushing! I went to this Valvoline because they had done the service the day prior. After waiting 20 minutes they casually mentioned that my car was pouring oil everywhere. They were worried my car was going to start smoking and ruin my engine. It was horrible and stressful. The team including the manager were less then helpful. First thing they said was - not our fault. So, they worked on the oil change and all the surrounding area but right away they attempt to cover their butts. Right.... I went inside to wait for AAA since my car now needed to be towed. Because it was later in the day it had to go to the Toyota Dealership. So rad. When I was talking with the manager indoors I noticed some super nice artwork on all the indoor paperwork at the desk. If anything shows me the pride of management or a professional attitude it is the jacked up pictures of multiple wieners everywhere. It takes a certain level of maturity to flaunt your obsession with private parts at a business. And being that the manager was talking with me, I can only guess he thinks drawings of men's privates are A-OK in the workplace he oversees?! The next day the nice staff at SJC Toyota calls me and lets me know that someone messed with my oil system and I needed a good chunk of work to be done. I was without a car but SJC Toyota did treat me nice and told me that they have had several tows from this Valvoline in recent months. I really wished I knew that sooner... The next 48 were spent scrubbing our street and driveway with every chemical known to man to remove motor oil. Literally one end of our block to the other, it was horrendous. Praise God the oil was clean or we would still be out there today scrubbing. We have a heavy handed HOA and they were not ok with our Sienna's oil being spread from one side of the block to the other. FYI my CSR was Derrick - Topside was Joe - and the inept, highly unskilled Madison did the bottom. Jimmy was the manager that okayed all the lovely pervert artwork (nice touch). AVOID. read more

If I could leave no stars I would , first I'm going to start off by saying I used to be an automotive mechanic and I've never heard good things about the instant oil change places , but i was in a time crunch and needed an oil change quickly so I thought I would try it ............ Huge mistake all the rumors I used to hear about working on cars at a real mechanic shop where we we're actually certified , I get the service done not even a mile down the road my car was blowing huge clouds of smoke , they put way to much oil in it , and that's just as bad as not having any at all it will ruin your motor . Then I return back to the place to get it taken care of and I told them what was happening and they took no accountability they said no we didn't overfill it but that's exactly what happened the manager wouldn't give me the regional managers phone number no refund nothing absolutely nothing I just want to say for the people who don't know anything about automotive mechanics these people who work here are not mechanics they have no idea what they are doing how do you mess up a drain and fill , the people who work there do not know there way around a car a bunch of kids who have never turned a wrench in there life what a joke don't take your car here unless you have money to buy a whole new engine THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICS THEY'RE CLUELESS read more

So quick and SO informative. I recently got a new job where I commute to from Laguna Beach to San Diego 3x a week so I was way over due for an oil change when I came by. On Friday morning I only waited maybe 5 minutes then was directed into a bay where the techs guided me up onto the risers. A friendly guy named Berto greeted me with a smile, asked me a few questions, scanned my VIN, took my keys and then the guys all went to work on my car. They are SO efficient here! We checked all my lights, tires, filters and reviewed my service history - this is where I told Berto I commute a lot now and it's really important to me that I take care of my car so gave me his recommendations but also told me the choice is up to me. I loved this most because he took the time to educate me instead of making it feel cold and salesy. Plus! I saw they personally autograph every oil filter for recourse - how cool is that?! Definitely earned my trust! I opted into changing some filter and adding a fuel efficiency fluid because it made sense! Plus it was all completed in like less than the 15 mins they advertise. I have had oil changes for my other cars several times at this location over the years without issue. As someone who has worked on cars extensively, oil changes are simple - especially if you have a lift and all the equipment. It's worth the money to save the time and effort these days. That being said, simple jobs also need to be done right - or big problems can result. Several weeks ago, I brought in my 2018 Jetta for a routine oil change, which was notably more expensive due to the type of synthetic oil required. Nevertheless, I had it done, drove the car a mile or so to my house and parked it in the garage. After returning from NY a few weeks later I took the car into my office in Irvine at which point I noticed the car was not running correctly and was in fact blowing white smoke out the tail pipe. I gingerly drove the car back home and when I checked the oil - sure enough - it was exceedingly overfilled. It was clear to me that the old oil was not drained before the new oil was put in. This is enormously dangerous to the engine and can result in significant expense. I took it back to the station and they proceeded to try to drain the excess oil from the top of the motor rather than just removing all the oil and doing the oil change over. I could see that the oil they were removing was old by the color of the oil. I spoke with the manager (Jesse) to make the case that the old oil was never removed, hence there was too much oil. Jesse tried to convince me that the dirty oil was due to the fact that the previous owner was not using the specified oil - but he agreed to check the video to confirm the old oil was removed. After returning home, I got a call from Jesse saying everything was done properly, but the owner agreed that they would redo the oil change. After this was completed I drove the car home and parked it in the garage. The next morning, I had a 7 foot stream of oil from a leak in the oil pan at the drain plug. I took it back to the shop and was told after a quick visual inspection that this was due to some oil that leaked from the Oil filter onto the splash guard (which was supposed to be removed for the oil filter change). After 4 trips to this place for a simple oil change - I had enough. I went straight to the dealership and spent $5 on a new oil drain plug and crush washer. I then went home, drained the oil, replaced the drain plug with the new crush washer and re-filled the oil. The leak from the oil pan stopped and luckily, I didn't damage any of the seals running the motor with excessive oil pressure due to the overfilled oil. Needless to say, I will not be using this place any more for several reasons. First, I read another comment from a user who had a similar experience with the old oil not being drained. This is a serious problem with how this shop operates. This should never happen. They showed me the dipstick after the oil change as part of the protocol - but I didn't have my glasses and I wasn't paying attention. They get paid to pay attention. Second, the song and dance trying to avoid doing the right thing in the first place and re-doing the oil change after they could have caused serious damage to my motor is inexcusable. Third, screwing up the second oil change by not replacing the $2 crush washer points to further incompetence. Fourth, not owning up to the obvious issue of the crush washer is really beyond the pale. Nobody likes to waste their precious time. Worse still - nobody wants to spend money for someone to waste their precious time - repeatedly. For this reason, I am compelled to tell this story so that others might be warned not to waste their time and money at this shop. read more

BEWARE of upselling services that your car does not require. My Son went in for an oil change and was upsold to a coolant flush, in fact a coolant flush had been performed on the car 3 weeks earlier. It is a very simple test or visual inspection to understand if a coolant flush is needed. I have 5 cars and will no longer do business (out of principle) with Valvoline unless they make this right. I visited the shop and talked to the manager and he did not see that the shop did anything wrong or there was any need for empathy or making it right. An unneeded coolant flush is a lot of money to a teenager. read more
