Joe and his team were nothing short of incredible. I pulled in about 5 minutes before closing (which I felt pretty badly about) and they were happy, friendly, and eager to assist me. In addition to doing a great job replacing my vehicle's oil, they also replaced my corroded battery. While replacing the corroded battery, one of the bolts snapped off, which was no fault of their own. Because the bolt was a special Honda part and was needed to install the new battery (making it so I was unable to leave without it), member of their team had to drive to 3 different auto parts stores to find the specific bolt to get my vehicle up and running again. This put them almost 2 hours post closing time. The whole time they were really kind hearted about it, had an amazing attitude, and were telling me jokes to help the time pass by while we waited for their team member to find the part, purchase it, and bring it back. I was really blown away by the level of customer service - you really hardly ever see it as this extraordinary level. I then returned a few days later to complete an inspection, and that process was also amazing and painless. I recommend this Valvoline to anyone and everyone. These guys should receive a huge award! read more

I wish I can go lower. This Valvoline on Western Ave most destroy my car. It all started with a coolant flush. The tech could not get a good seal at the coolant storage tank. After many try's, the tech was able to perform this coolant flush. I drove the car about 1/2 mile, when I smelled coolant, I pulled over and found out the coolant return line was broken. I call Valvoline and there said file a claim. The outcome: Valvoline Headquarters approved the claim of $130.00 and the Valvoline on Western Ave is still there. Be careful on Oil change and service. I've come here several times, mainly for oil changes. Which always seems to be fast and easy. but i must say, some employees there, really don't care about the job they are paid to do. (i have a full cover under my car, which isn't necessary, but helps prevent scratches and scrapes from happening) THE ISSUE IS- this underbody cover has about 18 screws which hold it in, and needs to be removed prior to an oil change. "Also the reason o don't change my oil myself anymore." it was winter, and not long after my oil change i hear scraping against the ground while driving. When I stopped to look at the issue- i seen snow which got bunched in between the cover and underbody of my car. THIS HAPPENED, because whoever did the work u see my car took it upon themselves to decide to only put 4 of the 18 bolts back in. LETS JUST SAY THE COVER WAS COMPLETELY RUINED AND NOW REMOVED INDEFINITELY, all because some employee didn't want to do the job correctly! read more

Spilled oil on engine, didn't clean it, dripped onto driveway, smelled, and smoked. Blamed someone else. Oh, and no masks except the one the service managers put on just before they talked to me. I won't be going back... Here's the story. On Monday I got a simple oil change at the Valvoline on Route 20 (2448 Western Ave, Altamont, NY 12009). $44. Ouch. On Wednesday my car was at the dealer for a recall. They asked me if I'd had a recent oil change because it looked like something might be leaking. Upon leaving the dealer, I drove back to the Valvoline where they "wiped off" my engine and told me there was no leak. I got home and sure enough there were two oil spots on my driveway. I put some cardboard under the car. On Thursday there was another oil spot (about the size of a baseball) on the cardboard. I immediately drove to Valvoline where I was told I was leaking transmission fluid and would need to have my car looked at by a mechanic. They said they wiped my engine "clean" to be sure and showed me a picture. I made an appointment for the next Tuesday with my mechanic (Everett Auto, 5 Stars) and parked my car on the street. More oil spots. Late Tuesday afternoon I got a call from my mechanic. Said they washed my engine, drove the car, and checked for leaks. No leaks. Said there had been oil collected in multiple spots, their opinion is that it had been a sloppy oil change. Now it's the following Tuesday, one week parked in the driveway, and no spots of any kind under the car. read more

I shouldn't even give them 1 star, if that was possible. Today I pull in front of 2 empty bays. Was told the car behind me was here first and I need to pull in behind them to secure my spot of being next. I did so as instructed. Then, 20 minutes later I was told his "10:00" Appt was here and that he wasn't sure when he could do my oil change and inspection. Wtf? My time is worth something to me, and I'll never be wasting my time there again. Absolutely WRONG. If your time isn't worth anything, then by all means go waste your time with this shop and wait, and wait again to only be told they don't have the time your car deserves. read more

I have to give it one star because it won't allow you to give none. Historically has been a great place to take vehicles with friendly staff but recently my husband went to get an inspection at 330 on a weekday... with no cars in the bay and at least 2 visible staff he was turned away because they "only take appointments for those checks now". They could fit him in the next day at 10am...with the same staff. So beware the policies have changed and they can do whatever they want per corporate...since they are owned by someone as a franchise site and not the true corporate for valvoline where customers matter. Edit to add. The staff said it was with the same staff the next day.... so why not do it while no one is there? And why not post signs as I had been there within 30 days with another car and no change in policy signs had been posted? read more

I went Valvoline oil service center in Guilderland, NY for state inspection. I usually do my own oil change but since I am there for the inspection, I asked the service manager to change my oil. When I came home, large oil leaked onto my concrete carport where I always park this car. There was not a drop of oil prior to this oil change. I went back and told them about the leak and they told me the oil pan thread was stripped and they said that this is wear and tear item. They put rubber plug and stop the leak but they did not address the what they have done to my oil plug thread. How can an oil plug thread be wear and tear item? If you torque it correctly, it should never fail. They did not use a torque wrench when I was watching. I went there for simple oil change and now I have ~$500-$1000 issue which I may need new oil pan or tap new thread which is not a good fix. It may leak again. Both options are the costly and time-consuming work. I have done many oil changes and it never leaked on me but when I was there once, they admitted that they stripped my oil pan thread and caused a large oil leak and they continue to state that they are not responsible for the car over 100k miles and they are not owning up their mistake. I contacted the corporate but no response. I will submit small claims court in my town to see if they force Valvoline to do anything. This is matter of principle. They stripped my oil plug and they should fix it. Why do I need to responsible for $500-$1000 problem Valvoline has created. read more

I usually have no problems with these guys as the oil changes are great. That said, I came here to get an inspection and they turned me away saying I needed an appointment. Normally that would make sense, however last year I got my inspection done and they said I didn't need an appointment. So I stopped by thinking nothing of it. The gentleman that turned me away was nice, stating it was a policy of the manager. I just couldn't understand why they wouldn't want my business. There were NO cars in their shop! I asked him about it but he politely said the same thing that his manager didn't want to schedule more than one appointment an hour. Which being they were doing nothing I found silly! I had to make an appointment for the next day. Which means I went across town and got my inspection done at jiffy lube in 45 mins. To sum it up, don't get your state inspection done there. read more

Worst experience ever I went in for an oil change and the individual worker that approached my vehicle right off the bat looked at my vehicle and said that since my car was an older vehicle I needed the full synthetic didn't even take into account how many miles I had on the vehicle or what exactly I needed for my oil change, after I told him what I wanted from my vehicle he then told me "you need to back up because I'm not directing you in with your car all cock eyed" to which I didn't respond and did what he told me to adjust my vehicle as I was doing so and As pulled into the garage he told me to turn off my vehicle to which I did, I then popped my hood and he makes a snide remark to his coworker "oh the car is hot, in my head I was like well of course I just drove it from house to your establishment, he proceeded to say I need to wait 20 Mins, I have never had to wait, it was as if he's never had experience with changing oil on a vehicle. Then he comes back to the drivers seat and tells me to read him the miles on my car as I was I went to turn the key on my car to show the miles not to turn on the vehicle he then "Yells at Me to say DON'T TURN ON THE CAR, I told him wasn't I was just turning the key to check the miles he then says that's it I'm refusing service I was never once raising my voice once to him, from the begin he was rude and disrespectful just because I'm a women doesn't mean you can be rude to me and treat me like dirt. I guess Valvoline doesn't care who they hire! I'm a NEVER EVER GOING BACK TO THAT LOCATION AND NEITHER SHOULD ANYONE ELSE! read more

Came here and they said they NEEDED to do an inspection with my oil change. Guy in line next to me says last time they did the same thing to him and they nitpicked everything and charged him almost 300$. I tell them nevermind, I'm going to get my inspection somewhere else. The assholes who run this shop retaliated by calling the cops on me, who came to my house and gave me a ticket for expired inspection. To the guy who replied to my google review too, I'm not filling out your stupid little form so you can get more of my info to send to the cops. Yesterday I went for an inspection....was told it was a 45 minute wait, went to Stewart's to get some breakfast and was back over in less than 30 and it was already in and done. They failed it, apparently due too a power steering leak. Took it to the shop this morning, there was no leak what so ever. I am very upset that they wanted not only my money but also my time of having to go pay the shop to check something that wasnt even wrong. Very displeased, will never be going there again. read more

"Tell him to get the hell out of his truck!" I should have left at this point but had already paid for an inspection the day before but my truck failed due to a "torn wiper blade". I had returned to have them pass my car as I replaced the blades myself at half the cost. My experience the day before was pretty terrible and this most recent experience turned out to be downright terrifying. After being told to get the hell out of my truck I was told that I was being disrespectful for suggesting that the fail due to torn blades was a poor attempt to get me to pay for overpriced wiper blades. When I suggested that cursing at a customer is the definition of disrespect this same assistant manager jumped out of my truck, got in my face and asked me what the hell I was going to do about it. The situation was very confusing and I was unsure what was going on. Luckily someone stepped in and pulled the crazed maniac back into the facility. I was then told to get the $&@# off the property by another employee. I called the police and customer care at Valvoline. The situation was eventually resolved. I got an inspection weeks later and a gift card for a free oil change after spending hours of my time dealing with the people at Valvoline. The gift card went in the garbage. I will never set foot in a Valvoline location again and I suggest you do the same. read more
