While all Valvoline's make the oil change process simple and smooth, this is the best location by far. I've here a few times and every time I'm amazed at how quickly and efficiently the team runs. Robert and Jason looked over everything in my car and were able to quickly check my fluids, lights, tip everything off, change my air filters and they even helped with my wipers which had been set wrong by the windshield company. They answer questions completely unrelated, give advice for where I can get my starter checked, they know cars and they know the local body shops for things Valvoline doesn't cover. Andrew took care of my Oil change while the guys were taking care of the rest of the car and helping to tighten a lightbulb that loosened. All in all, I was out of there in 22 minutes including the wait time, two biscuits for my dogs and a coloring pack+ crayons for my toddler. We don't go anywhere else! read more

Had an issue with both Salem Valvoline locations, which are managed by the same person (I learned this today when I spoke to him - not at my request, BTW - lest you think I'm a Karen). Therefore, I'm posting this review on both location's pages. In the summer I went to North Street location for an oil change. While the service was being performed, I gave the employee handling the transaction my debit card. Today I went to the Paradise Road location, where I was told I didn't pay for the previous service, which was news to me. I was handed a cell phone with the manager on the other end. He explained to me that I would need to pay for the last service before they could perform any new service. I told him I handed the North Street employee my card. The manager TOLD me I was lying. But THEN he told me he'd check the CCTC cameras and apologize if he found that I HAD given the card to his employee. He accused me of lying absent of proof - he hadn't even checked!! So, with ZERO evidence, he called me a liar. Furthermore, Valvoline company policy is the garage door is not to be opened until the customer has paid (confirmed by staff today). If the staffer didn't run the card at the time, why did they open the door, signalling I could leave? And, if I wasn't charged, it was only because their emplyee didn't run the card. I'm waiting for the manager's call. Regardless of any apology I may or may not get, I do not appreciate being called a liar without a shred of evidence and no person in a managerial position should be so irresponsible as to make that accusation without being 100% certain they were right. In the meantime, there are many other options for an oil change in Salem and I'm guessing they will be more professional than any managed by this irresponsible individual. read more

Excellent service with mechanics who know cars inside and out! Keith and Mike were a great team and a third mechanic we didn't meet worked below changing oil and filter plus transmission fluid which was really dirty. Got both air filters changed and those old ones were gross too. Got a wiper replaced also. And we got a coupon discount which helped as bill was over $300. I'll be back again. And no more waiting for dealership 30 minutes away to tell us 4 hours later car is ready! read more

This VOIC location damaged my car during an oil change which resulted in a trip to the dealership to resolve the issue and complete the oil change. The VOIC tech told me the issue had been caused by "whoever changed the oil last time" and when I produced the receipt showing it was them, another tech intervened and said the issue was because I "went too long between oil changes". FWIW, I follow Jeep's recommended service intervals and change the oil when the Jeep tells me it needs it - about 10k miles. They had already charged my card before they told me they couldn't complete the work and said they needed a special tool and that I should come back in a week. I requested a refund and they ran my card again, but they cancelled the transaction. I eventually got a refund, so I'm posting here instead of the Better Business Bureau. For the record, the Jeep dealership service department charges about $26 LESS than VOIC for a full synthetic oil change. Keep that in mind. read more

I had been coming to this shop for the past 6 months or so to get my oil change. The service is quick, everyone is polite and professional, and the service is top notch. This last visit though, I was informed that they no longer will do synthetic blends for oil changes. I was told up front, I was provided with an explanation, there was a discount provided. Even with a discount the oil change was $80. I went through with it as I needed the oil change that day for my spouses car. Although I'm not paying $95 for an oil change every time. This is not a fault or reflection of the staff, this is a company decision, and I am sorry to say but I won't be back. I will just have to schedule at full-care auto centers, just doing quick research and Meineke has a posted price of $34.95 for synthetic blend, even full synthetic is $69.95. I will just opt for less convenience if it means means such a cost savings difference. read more

I brought my Jaguar in for a simple oil change prior to a trip to New Hampshire on July 27th. The technicians did not fasten the skid plate on correctly and it fell off on the highway, dragging on the pavement. I have been speaking with Guillermo at the Salem, Ma location every week for a month and he has stated that he is waiting for the part. I called the "customer care" number at Valvoline and the part was never ordered. I had to have my car towed as the skid plate was dragging on the ground and have been without a vehicle for a month! Worst service ever. The manager is a liar, never ordered the skid plate and has caused me significant duress. Never use this location if you have a foreign car, or any car for that matter. ***Note- as of 9/16/23 I still do not have the replacement skid plate****!!!!!! read more

I had an oil change at another shop two weeks ago and they left me with a leaking drain pan and oil filter, I went to have it fixed here and they replaced the plug and tighten the oil filter and sent me on my way... free of charge. First time going to Valvoline. I needed an oil change, and my usual mechanic was not available since it was a Sunday afternoon. Went to Valvoline. No waiting on my oil. changed was out within 15-20minutes. A little more expensive than if I had gone to my usual mechanic, but it was so fast and easy that I would definitely recommend, hopefully it continues to be a good and painless experience with future visits. UTTERLY Disappointed. I had taken my 2013 Fiat 500 to this location before for an oil change. I found the staff very professional, helpful and speedy. I planned on making this my preferred location for oil changes and other services, as I was very impressed. Yesterday (9/5/2018) I pulled into the Valvoline, prepared to have the transmission fluid service and an oil change and was told that 'I'm sorry but our new manager has decided that we no longer service Fiats'. Excuse me? I was prepared to spend at least $200 because I appreciated the service and expertise of the staff, to be told that my car is not allowed to be serviced. Again, utterly disappointed and a little disgusted. NOT a knock on the staff, who again, when I interacted with them were nothing but polite, knowledgeable and professional. But there are a number of Fiat 500s in Salem and to be told that our patronage is not wanted is a knock on the company and I will no longer use any Valvoline service, and will encourage anyone who asks for a recommendation not to use them either. I don't write reviews often but in this case I felt like I should. Review applies to the Salem MA location only, I can't speak for the others. This business is located near my work & quickly became my favorite place to get an oil change. No appointment necessary and longest I've ever waited is 10 minutes. Leaves plenty of time to get this done on my lunch break. They seem a little pricier than other places but it's worth it. You stay in the car the whole time, so you know everyone following Covid safety guidelines. The employees are knowledgeable, polite and quick. They show you what your oil is at when they first pop your hood & show it to you again after it's finished. They show you 2 filters, 1 under the glovebox & 1 under the hood. Sometimes I have them replaced, but never feel obligated to do so. Another important aspect that makes them stand out from the rest, is the amount of qualified female employees they have. I dealt with Ashley last time, she was knowledgeable, informative and extremely helpful! I recommend them to coworkers, friends & family!! read more

I wish I could give a better review. I've been going to the location on Paradise Road for 4 years and never once had to wait or had an issue. I stopped off at this location and waited for 20 minutes. I was the only one in line but both bays were occupied. After 20 minutes of waiting I left because it didn't seem like either of the cars were even close to being ready and not one of the staff members came out to let us know how long of a wait it would be. If it's going to be more than 10-15 minutes, they really should come out and tell people waiting that it's going to be longer than the standard wait. I'll only go to the Paradise Rd location from now on. read more

Let me start off that I have been a customer of Valvoline for over 35 years. I have been bringing my cars to various locations over the years. Over the past 3 years I have been frequenting this particular location. Service was great, very professional, and informed me what various services were suggested. I always felt well serviced there. Well until today at the Salem location. I was guided in to the bay. Went through the standard routine of shutting off the car. Checking the lights, popping the hood, etc... And placing the keys in a box to stop the car from starting (Push Button Start). Mentioned to the tech that at another Valvoline a few years ago, they forgot to take the keys out of the box and the car started. He wasn't interested in the least. And walked away. Usually at this point, we're talking about the oil to be used. Nothing. I had to call the technician over to ask him what oil to use. "Well I automatically assumed you wanted conventional oil." So I say to him that I would like the 'Synthetic Blend'. He goes up to his screen, makes a change, and I see the price double. He chose Full Synthetic. Noticing this, I had to correct him from what I saw on the screen. I did say 'Synthetic Blend' to him. His response, "When we hear 'Synthetic', we automatically select 'Full Synthetic'." I asked, "Are 'Full Synthetic' and 'Synthetic Blend' different?" "No, one is Synthetic, and one is not.", he says. And I asked then why does it say 'Synthetic Blend' on all the literature, in every Valvoline? He immediately dismisses me, "I'm done with you." Not only once but twice. "I'm done with you." Then proceeds to walk away. When I ask to speak to the manager, he states "I am the manager." Well Keith M., you are not even close to being a manager from my direct discussion with Valvoline Corporate Offices. "All I've done is been professional with you." There is definitely an opportunity for retraining of this employee, to what the definition is being 'professional'. Services that may need to be performed or suggested. Nothing. Anything that could be done to rush me out the door, they bypassed. Missing a huge opportunity to up sell or add on services. I wanted to ask about a coolant flush, transition Fluid change, Differentials, and more. A $70 sale that could have been $400 or more. Having been in sales decades ago, that's a missed opportunity. As the next tech Chris, he was very courteous and respectful. What I have always experienced at this particular location. I had to make it a point, that the information that was on the receipt, was incorrect. Maybe of a previous owner? But Chris corrected it and processed a coupon I was mailed, as well as my payment. Had Keith verified that the information was correct, I would not have had to ask Chris to correct his negligence. Timothy, under my hood, was great. So what would have been another 'Happy' experience, shattered by one employee. read more

Very disappointed. Went 3 times with 2 different cars. They either don't have the filter needed or the oil. First time they offered to order the filter and asked me to come back. I did today & they said they still didn't have it & wasn't ordered. The technician told me that they have very little demand for my type of car (AUDI Q7), which I find odd. This place would be just fine if not for two things: 1) Free oil change coupon we won at a local chamber of commerce giveaway wasn't even close to honored on the last visit. We have synthetic oil, the fine print in the coupon was for traditional - no worries, I'd be happy with even the cost of a traditional oil change taken off my balance. Nope. $20 off because they couldn't find a way to honor the coupon in their system. 2) The manager, Ashley, is extremely friendly and personable ( spoke to her during the above debacle ) - that being said, there is one guy there that is miserable every time I stop in ( and I seem to keep getting him ). Caroline, Keith and Michael were the team that worked on my car this afternoon in Salem. I can't say enough good things about them. They are so professional and friendly. They work quickly and efficiently and there is no slacking off. They seem to enjoy what they do and take pride in their work. I hope the company recognizes such awesome employees. Loved seeing a female in their getting her hands just as dirty as the mens. I will continue to utilize Valvoline for a quick oil change. UPDATE: I took my car for an inspection sticker today only three weeks or less after my oil change and the guy at the garage shows me that my two rear brake lights were out and I had no rear lights at all. I've been coming to this location for my oil changes for a little over a year. Although it is a little expensive, you can't beat the quality and the fact that you're in and out in less than 20 minutes. I hadn't felt compelled to write a review until today because of the outstanding service I received from the ladies working there. Danielle was so incredibly thorough in explaining the process. She talked me through everything I needed but also everything I didn't need to do. It was quick and efficient as usual but the service I got today was some of the best service i've ever received from a mechanic. It also took just one quick google search to find a $10 off coupon. Unlike other "instant oil change" places, the staff here does not try to pressure me into purchasing every single thing they have to offer. Okay, while it's true that one must know their owners' manual and be a little savvy or one ends up buying air filters and crap like that before they are really needed (hence four and not five stars) that's not the fault of the employees... that's what they are supposed to offer under the Valvoline umbrella, and therefore part of their job. The fact is, the Salem Valvoline employees are some of the best technicians, and finest people you could hope to have under the hood of your car. They have always been incredibly polite yet personable, professional while witty and kind. I have always driven out of this garage shaking my head and thinking that my experience was just fantastic. I keep wanting to bake them cookies, or bring them all lunch, but as they seem to understand; I haven't got any free time and even less money... all I can do is say Thank You wholeheartedly every time I stop by, and as I said to the gentleman who helped me today, 'You're my HERO!' Its the closest place to me for a quick oil change, so I do occasionally go there, but I feel they constantly try to sell me things I don't need; I guess its part of the business model. All said a standard oil change will run you about 35 bucks, which is more than a lot of places, but the speed is usually pretty good read more

I'm not the best with making sure I take care of oil changes in a timely manner (sorry car) and I've been able to get my car serviced without a wait. First time customer to Valvoline Instant Oil Change. The good? They were quick. The bad? See below. I brought my car in for an oil change on 8/29 and the technician said I should flush the coolant and replace it at 60,000 miles. My car has 62,000 miles on it. The "special" was $79. I agreed and while the coolant was being replaced I consulted my owner's manual. The manual states: 120,000 mi/10 yrs Scheduled Maintenance Recommended service for your 2003 Honda Civic Si: Replace engine coolant, then replace every 60,000mi/5yrs. In other words, my car didn't need coolant replacement for another 58,000 miles! I asked the technician where Valvoline gets their recommendations from. He said, "the computer." Not exactly the answer I was looking for. I accept responsibility for not consulting my manual before agreeing to this service but Valvoline should accept responsibility for not providing accurate recommendations based on the manufacturer. Be careful of the sales pitch when you visit this place or any "quick" oil change facility. read more

Wow, I totally owe this Valvoline an apology. I had to take the beast in for brakes and the dealer did a total inspection and found the LED light that the Valvoline techs had tried to fix for me. For reals. It wasn't cheap to replace, either, I'll tell you. They said a regular inspection garage might miss it if they weren't looking for it when I told them I just got a new inspection sticker 3 days ago. Frozen washer fluid aside, I appreciate the heads up and effort to replace the LED. read more
