Love this place for the convenience. Best price for an oil change? Probably not. But name another spot where you get an oil change without ever leaving your car. You're paying for that convenience, plain and simple. Just make sure you hunt for coupons first -- they're out there, online and in those junk mailers that show up in your mailbox. Don't pay full price without looking. The techs are consistently friendly, and they top off all your other fluids too (which, at this price, better be included). Every time I leave, I think "yeah, I could probably save a few bucks somewhere else." But that means booking an appointment, sitting in a lobby with two-day-old coffee, and listening to a mechanic run down a list of "highly recommended" extras before he'll hand back my keys. Blatant carelessness. Avoid this place. I only brought my car here in a pinch because my regular, trusted mechanic was away. It was busy and it took over an hour for a standard oil change, which I could overlook if the job was actually done right. Since I work from home, I rarely drive this car and only took it out twice after the service before my check engine light came on. I took it straight to my regular mechanic once he was back, and he discovered that the oil cap was completely missing. Oil had spilled all over my engine, the inside of my hood, and was leaking out of the car. The shop seems to be staffed by young mechanics who are completely distracted and not paying attention to their jobs. A missing oil cap is an amateur mistake that caused a massive mess, inconvenience and unnecessary expense that I had to deal with. Never again. read more

I definitely appreciated the service representatives, however I do not recommend coming to this location if you are military. This store will only provide 10% discount on strictly oil changes. I spoke to corporate and they stated they do not impose any of their national offers and it is up to the store locations. I recommend going to a different company that does a discount for the entire service rather than only oil. I had completed my transmission, coolant, oil change and a fuel injection at this location here, not realizing the above. read more

The site: A free standing building on the corner of Newport Blvd and Old Irvine next to Grocery Outlet. Enter on Newport Blvd. as soon as you pass Old Irvine Blvd. The vibe: You stay in your vehicle while the employees perform service and ask you questions and test your lights and brakes. If you can't pull into the entry, it might be too dangerous to wait with part of your car sticking out on Newport. It gets busy especially on weekends. Services: They advertise 15 minute oil changes, but I have NEVER left sooner than a half hour and at times an hour depending on the number of cars in front of you, the services the need, and the services you need. Oil change for my car with synthetic oil but with a discount coupon was $90. They recommended transmission oil change which was $250 but my service manual said I don't need to do that for 5,000 more miles. Also at my dealer it's $90 dollars cheaper. (I called). They also recommended a tire rotation at $49 but it's free where I bought my tires. No need to change my air filter and my cabin air filter because I change those . It was nice they offered the additional services as reminders. They have my email so they send occasional coupons. Overall, they have multiple locations and are convenient. They surprisingly charge more than my dealer for these routine oil and transmission fluid changes but they employees didn't do a hard sell and were quite polite. read more

I went in for an oil change and asked for a military discount showed my id and the guy said "yea I got you" but he didn't give me the discount. I politely stated he forgot to add it then he said it's cause he didn't hear me and left. That was so RUDE. I asked if I could get a refund then get charged again correctly and he just charged me again but did not refund me the incorrect transaction and now I have to call my bank and file a charge back. Worst place ever. Check your receipts on an oil change. They charge you for "extra oil" when there is no such thing. An engine only holds a certain amount of oil. So "extra oil" doesn't exist but these clowns try to add it every time. Once you bring that to their attention they play dumb and say something about "ok well we can take it off but your engine holds more than normal" and then you tell them your engine oil volume and it's standard ... I visited Valvoline for a standard oil change. The oil change itself was completed quickly and without issue. However, during the visit, I was told my battery was "bad" and needed attention, even though it had been replaced a year earlier. About a week later, my car failed to start. AAA came out and found the battery had not been properly secured -- the bolts were loose. Based on this experience, I would consider Valvoline reliable for oil changes only. I would exercise caution when it comes to additional services, as upsells may not always be necessary and basic safety checks can be overlooked. read more

I'd give them zero stars if I could. This place takes advantage of people--especially those who don't know the tricks yet. I sent my 17-year-old for her first oil change with clear instructions: ask for the standard (the cheapest option) and decline any upsells. She did exactly that. They still gave her the premium service and charged her nearly double. She got her first hard lesson in how some shops operate--and this is one of them. I've personally had the same issue with this location, but I caught it before they overcharged me. It makes me wonder if they target women assuming we won't question the bill. Worst experience ever and I am going to be owed money from this place. Currently sitting in my car while they clean up the oil they sprayed over my entire engine and windshield. This is after I heard a huge clunk under my car which they told me was my oil filter on too tight. Funny thing is they were telling a guy righty tighty lefty loosy after he did that. So they tightened it on! I will be updating my review. Update: Several hours later and the only person I'm able to communicate with other than a call center is their social media monitor. The teams that works here is stocked with well-meaning, hard-working techs. They do a great job and are quick. I'm posting one star due to corporate-level behavior. I learned today that Valvoline Instant Oil Change is sharing maintenance information with CarFax. My entire history of oil changes had been shared, and without my permission. Despite what the tech was told to tell me, and what the phone customer service agent was also told to tell me, such reporting is not standard. None of my dealer services were in the records. And what is worse than a completely blank maintenance history? An incomplete one. Had I left this alone, both of my vehicles would have appeared to be missing major services that I get done elsewhere. Now that I've taken the time to call in and request by information be deleted, when I go to sell either car, *I'll* get to show the receipts detailing how I've handled maintenance over the years instead of having CarFax tell an incomplete story, for profit. None of the Valvoline employees I spoke to were able to tell me where I'd opted in, or how they notify customers about their data sharing policies. I would guess it's in the fine print when you sign up for email/SMS coupons. Obviously, I'll be taking my business elsewhere in the future. If you've had work done here and this concerns you, I recommend you call and ask for your data to be deleted as well. read more

A week and a half ago I came here to get my oil changed, today while driving on the freeway my car all of suddenly started making loud noises, I had to pulled over to the side to see what was causing it, I looked under my car and the plate that covers the under of my car that they took off to change the oil was hanging. So while I was driving, that part was flapping and was causing the loud noise. Whoever that worked on my car, please double check your work before you let a paying customer drive off . I went in today for an oil change and was told that I needed to replace my battery. I told them no, and decided to have the battery tested on my own and it's perfectly fine. I would not recommend taking your business there. Obviously the workers are dishonest and want to just upsell people on things they don't actually need. They also claim to top off your fluids but they didn't. Just a horrible experience after the fact of realizing that I was lied to. From the moment I pulled in, Christopher greeted me with a warm, professional attitude. He explained everything clearly, answered my questions without rushing, and made sure I understood what services were being done. There was absolutely no pressure or upselling--just honest recommendations and great customer service. He and the team worked quickly but thoroughly. You can tell Christopher really knows what he's doing, and he cares about doing it right. It's refreshing to see someone take pride in their work, especially in a quick-service environment like this. Bonus points for his sense of humor and friendly vibe--he somehow managed to make an oil change feel less like a chore and more like a pit stop with personality. I changed my air filter three weeks before coming in and the first thing they did was tell me that I needed an air filter, even though he was holding mine and it was cleaner than clean. Valvoline damaged my expensive Prius V following a negligently performed service on June 30, 2022. They left it powered on during the oil change. They even admitted it, but claimed the engine didn't turn on. I'm a disabled veteran and they damaged my only means of transportation and now they won't make it right. Insurance says they won't cover it because it's not a collision. WTF? Not cool! Toyota says it'll be $5,400 to repair the head gasket because the engine was likely run without oil. Take your precious vehicle elsewhere! They'll break your car and heartlessly make you sue them in civil court for relief! Unbelievable! They said something along the lines of "gee, what bad timing" while suggesting the damage is my fault. Car was working perfectly before Valvoline! Now I have a $15,000 brick. I drove in last night about 17 minutes before they were to close on 12/23, and I was greeted with smiles. This was my first time using Valvoline Instant oil change, and this location in Tustin was about 13 mins from my home. The service was very thorough and I was out in less than 15 mins. It was so easy! I stayed in my car and one gentleman entered my information in a computer so I could see everything and the other gentleman, did the physical work on my car. They suggested things to be replaced based on the year of my car and mileage, but I didn't feel pressured to add services. It was a quick, easy and pleasurable experience and I will be back!
