Decided to try having brunch here with my Daughter after the place we wanted to go to was closed. So glad we did. Eclectic and funky with great service. We sat surrounded by books and board games. It felt like a living room with music. My Daughter got the lavender iced latte with almond milk which she loved and I had a dark roast hot coffee which was excellent. She got the Ham Tosti with siracha cole slaw which was great. I got the Buffalo cauliflower tacos which were fantastic. I will definitely return here for the food, drinks, and great service. We had a great experience tonight at Van Gogh's Ear Cafe. We were promptly seated at a table for two but a more comfortable looking table opened up while we were looking at the menu. We asked if we could move tables and were told absolutely. They quickly cleaned the table and we moved. Our server, Mia was a sweetheart as she was very helpful with menu decisions. I had a Banana Nilla latte to drink and it was sooo yummy. I could taste the bananas and the Nilla wafers. I usually need to add Splenda to my lattes but this one was made perfectly already. I would definitely order that again. For my meal I ordered a special of grilled cheese, bacon, and tomato sandwich without the tomato. The sandwich was hot when I got it and had a lot of bacon on it. It was very good. I especially like the Cole slaw. My date ordered a Coke and. Cubano sandwich with the quinoa. Mia told him that he would really like the quinoa and the sandwich was really good as well. He was happy with both and raced about it all. He wants to learn how to make the quinoa and he told me that he thinks that was the best Cuban sandwich he has ever had. Mia, was such a sweetheart and she gave us cookies from next door as they get their desserts from the bakery nearby. One oatmeal raisin and one with M & M's. They're eee both really good as well. van goghs ear cafe does not care about their customers!!! I ordered 2 tandoori kale salads through THEIR website. the description of the salad says there are chickpeas in the salad. I'm vegetarian so I was expecting chickpeas in the salad as my source of protein. After getting home, i realized there were no chickpeas in my salads so I called them. they responded by saying "what do you want us to do about it". They then said they don't offer chickpeas on the salad anymore and they didn't update their website. They refused to refund and only offered "free cookies" to make it up to us. This is unacceptable to equate what could've been a filling meal to cookies. Why is it called the tandoori kale salad if there are no chickpeas? What is tandoori about it? They told me i could dispute it through doordash when I didn't even use doordash.... so disappointed in this service read more

I have been wanting to try this place for the longest and finally got to stop by for lunch. I called in my order of a curried chickpea sandwich with the pasta salad. He told me it would take about 15 minutes. When I arrived I parked nearby on the street. When I walked in it was set up like a dark cafe. The man that took my order over the phone asked my name and got my order. It came to a little under $14 and that included a vegan cookie I added. I paid with my credit card and left. When I finally ate I seen that the restaurant didn't give me the pasta as the side that I asked for. Instead they gave me quinoa which I didn't want. Went here a couple of weeks ago for a quick dinner. The cafe is so cute and cozy! The milkshakes were amazing. I haven't had a milkshake for years and this one did not disappoint. Such a cute little space. It was the last restaurant I got to dine at back in March before we went into lockdown. Not sure what Covid-19 changes have been made but I will say prior to Covid it was a cute intimate spot for large gatherings as well as solo trips. The highlight of my trip was the sweet potato pizza. So yummy and enough for two people but if you're greedy like me perfect as a personal. It's a vegan meal but I added chicken to my pizza and it made it even more yummy. There's a free parking lot right in the back of the restaurant as well as a back entrance. The food is really good and the cafe has an eclectic vibe and fun to it. It'll be a great place for a bunch of friends to hang out. They have a lot of gluten free and vegan options which makes this an amazing place for people with dietary restrictions. The only drawback and the reason for 4 stars is the weird smell. It's a little pricey for a coffee shop with ok food. The drinks are yummy, But the best part is the BYOB rule! In my opinion you're definitely paying for the atmosphere! The live music is nice and the whole interior is so cute! They have a few outdoor seating so spots too. They require you to order on Live Music nights so you must meet the table minimum, (which really isn't that much). My suggested I'd eat dinner before you come! I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this space. It had a hip ambiance, beautiful lighting and art, and chill background music. I love that I heard some trip hop, downtempo and Little Dragon instead of mainstream radio music. I hung out here for a few hours with my boyfriend and drew the cat picture. The food was so delicious! I highly recommend the chips with spinach/cheese dip and quesadilla. For the quesadilla I had it cooked well done added garlic sauce and it tasted amazing!! For dessert the tollhouse cookie tart was out of this world!!! I recommend wearing layers and drinking something warm when it's cold out because whenever people open and close the door it gets drafty. There is a free parking lot is behind the restaurant. This cafe has a cute, homey vibe. A nice Starry Night painting adorns one wall. They have a bunch of small tables with mix and match chairs. It also features an antique piano. They have a few live plants which were nice, but they attracted some flies which got annoying once our food arrived. We sat by the window and it was a little dusty. My water glass was stained. Though I believe it was clean, it was still off-putting. To eat, I got the mac and cheese. It was a bit underwhelming. The potato chip crust added some nice texture but didn't pair very well with the pasta. The cheese tasted sour. However, my friend got the honey mustard chicken sandwich and enjoyed it. The veggies in it looked really fresh. To drink, I had the raspberry hibiscus tea. It was delicious with a bold fruit flavor. Our waiter was very friendly. I've been coming here for years! I usually stop by for their yummy desserts and tea but due to the current situation they're only open for deliveries and take out. From what I could tell their whole menu is available for order. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a side of pasta salad. This is my go-to sandwich and it was as good as ever! The process was really easy. Order and pay over the phone. I was told to park in the parking lot and to call them once I arrived. So happy they're still open. From the decor, to Van Gogh's famous portrait on the wall to the tables and chairs this is not your ordinary coffee/study/relax spot. They also have games you can play, books, etc. Food: Always great! I usually go for their lattes and dessert but I decided to switch it up this time and order an appetizer and entree. For an appetizer my friends and I ordered the Mezza Platter which includes a toasted pita, hummus, garlic spread, quinoa tabbouleh, grape leaves, herbs and spices. My friends and I can't stop talking about how good it was and well worth the $12. We ordered another side of pita for an additional $2. As an entree I ordered a side house salad and a shrimp quesadilla...instantly full! The quesadilla was a great portion and came with sour cream and salsa. As a dessert, we ordered an ice cream brownie which we were able to split between 3 of us. Amazing! If you love potatoes you have to try their potato wedges with the garlic aioli...to die for! Oh... did I mention this place is BYOB?! Price: Reasonable. We split the bill 3 ways and only spent $26 each. That was including the appetizer, entree, salad, dessert and tip. Parking: There's metered parking regular street parking. The street may be busy and crowded at times due to it being a good street for food and shopping. Service: Always attentive. Walking in was dreamy! The ambience and decor was an artist's dream! Creativity GALORE!!! I decided on this place after getting my hair done at Joe Miguel's on Stuyvesant. The service was GREAT. It was my first time having it, and I probably told everyone who would listen about it. Definitely would go back just for that. The tater tots were missing a little more crisp, but still had a scrumptious flavor. Mac n cheese w| a potato chip topping? YES PLEASE! My favorite time of the day is dessert time. A very unique spot you'd expect to be in Brooklyn given how hipstered out is, no it really is in downtown union. The setting is absolutely what will initially get your attention besides the name. When entering you'll have the choice of a table or couch/chairs with a coffee table for a more lounge feel. The furniture looks like its from a vintage shop. I wouldn't recommend using it if you plan to eat more than an app and drink as you kinda sink into the furniture. The servers are friendly and look the part, very hipster. There are games in the back if you're coming to chill with a group and the music again compliments the spot nicely. I had the chicken foccacia sandwich. Really good, and at a decent price. The tabouleh salad that comes with it as a side was great and I'd recommend that if you're unsure of a choice. The garlic spinach dip was also great, can easily be shared with 3 people. The place had a weird smell to it. I said maybe the food is going to taste really good. Then when I tasted the food it had no taste. I had this place bookmarked for a long time before finally getting the chance to try it. There is a big parking lot behind the cafe to park in and a back door to enter the restaurant if you can't find street parking. The waitress we had was very friendly and gave us be option of sitting at a table or a couch. We chose a couch which was a bit deep but comfy! There are a lot of great options to choose from on the menu for lunch as well as dessert. We started with a lot of the ginger green tea which was delicious. We also tried the spinach dip and that was very good but came with a bit too many chips. Would be a really good option for sharing with a group. For my main dish I had the mustard chicken wrap and the spicy coleslaw on the side. I liked how the wrap came out warm and toasty. The coleslaw was pretty good and nicely spiced however it was a bit heavy on the mayo side. Overall I would highly recommend this place as a cute spot to have some tea or food with friends or a date!
